History of Abomination

[Music] what's up my people one of the hulk's biggest enemies abomination whose real name is emil blonsky is going to be returning to the mcu in the she-hulk attorney at law disney plus series we got our first adaptation of emil blonsky and abomination in the 2008 incredible hulk film and recently he made a cameo in the phase four chongqi movie where we saw him fighting wong in some kind of a cage match clearly they're reintroducing him for a larger purpose and we might just find out what that is in the she-hulk series in the meantime we're going to give you the marvel comics history of abomination to get you up to speed on one of the hulk's greatest villains so let's get to it shall we [Music] abomination first appeared in tales to astonish issue 90 in april 1967 was created by stan lee and gil kane according to one interview with stan lee he actually came up with the name abomination before he even knew what the character's backstory or appearance would be he said that he remembered telling his artist gil kane to quote make him bigger and stronger than the hulk and we'll have a lot of fun with him which i have to say stan was right but let's move on to abominations fictional origin abomination's comic book origin was given to us in his debut issue tales to astonish issue 90 with the story titled the abomination in the story we learned that bruce banner is trying to kill the hulk saying only one thing will ensure the safety of mankind the hulk must die even though it means the death of bruce banner as well which i have to add is a sentiment that would follow bruce banner throughout his comic book history anyway in another part of the base general thunderbolt ross has called an urgent meeting of his top security officers telling them gentlemen an attempt on the life of my daughter betty has been made by an unidentified assailant three separate attempts to sabotage our most vital missiles have been narrowly nipped in the bud we know there's a foreign agent operating here on the post but he's managed to slip through our fingers time and again i want that blasted spy caught and i want him caught now right after this in the now deserted lab of dr bruce banner an intruder in a stolen uniform enters the lab thinking to himself if i had succeeded in capturing the general's daughter my task might have been simpler i could have held her hostage for my own safety but i can afford to wait no longer i must get pictures of the gamma-ray machine no matter what the cost there are those behind the bamboo curtain who will pay any price for banner's invention the spy then starts taking pictures of the gamma-ray with his miniature camera but hears footsteps outside the door and finds a place to hide at that moment banner comes walking in saying i'm in luck my lab's empty i can't hesitate can't put it off for a single minute it must be done before i can change into the hulk again the safety is off now it's just a matter of time but before banner can get in front of the gamma ray the military officers barge in and take bruce into custody banner tries to explain to them why he needs to be left alone with the gamma-ray but they refuse to listen and they haul him off anyway which of course leaves the spy alone in banner's lab again and he's now curious as to what exactly banner was doing so he starts to investigate and wonder to himself saying banner's the greatest atomic scientist of them all whatever he was after it must have been something really big so he moves over to the spot where he saw banner standing and activates the machine with his foot which hits him with the gamma rays and immediately transforms him into the abomination along with a caption that reads the incredible occurs once more blonsky now abomination starts saying i'm different more powerful i'm strong as the hulk i can do anything no one can stand up to me no one can stop me i'm invincible i'll smash the machine so that no one else can ever be as powerful as i as we see him lift the machine over his head and smash it to the ground however this was actually just in time because a few more seconds of exposure to the gamma rays would have killed him but abomination then decides he must kill banner hulk so that his own strength will be the greatest in the world while all this is going on banner escaped from the soldiers and returned to his lab only to find abomination tearing it apart this causes bruce to rage out turn into the hulk and charge abomination the two then have a crazy three-page battle which abomination shockingly wins knocking hulk out and stealing betty ross but in the next issue hope would get back up and win the rematch just before an alien being known as the stranger appeared and teleported abomination to his prison planet and that my friends is how the spy emil blonsky became the abomination in comics he's just another gamma-powered angry beast i mean we all get angry but sometimes we just need a good night's at his story arcs and publication history after abominations origin entails to astonish issues 90 and 91 we would next see abomination in silver surfer issue 12 in 1970. in this issue the abomination is brought back to earth by a coven of witches who want to use him to defeat the silver surfer but after abomination appears he tells the witches the abomination serves no one with the stranger gone nobody can stop me nothing can hurt me as he leaps away in a style similar to the whole with the abomination now loose on the earth the silver surfer intervenes to stop him which turns out to be another pretty awesome fight that lasts several pages ending with the surfer using the power cosmic to grab abomination's head and put him to sleepy sleep surfer then throws abomination on his board and brings him back to the coven of witches telling them time grows short reverse your spell remove the monster from earth while you can after this the next time we would see abomination is in thor issue 178 where we see abominations sent back to the prison planet of the stranger he finds a stranger's base and accidentally transports thor there with a teleportation switch but he then tries to convince thor to team up with him against a stranger by showing thor the other prisoners however thor ultimately realizes abomination only wants his help so he can replace the stranger as the ruler of this world so he uses mjolnir to go back in time and defeat abomination at the moment he arrived on the planet which i gotta say is a hardcore move by the god of thunder abomination would go on to appear in several different issues after fighting the jade giant for the first time including the incredible hulk 159 the incredible hulk 171 incredible hulk 184 through 196 and incredible hulk 287 through 290. and during that run there were quite a few stories involving abomination but we're gonna jump all the way to 1999 and the incredible hulk issues 472-474 because in issue 473 abomination tells thunderbolt ross and the hulk that he's the one responsible for the radiation poisoning that killed betty ross this dude looked ross right in the eyes he's pointing a gun at him i might add and tells him i killed your little girl even for abomination that's cold-blooded the hulk is obviously also angry after hearing this but refuses to give the abomination what he wants most which is a fight to prove who is most dominant thunderbolt ross however understandably wants bruce to kill abomination who in the end manages to escape then in the 2008 hulk series by jeff loeb marvel revealed general ross as the red hulk who we see get his revenge on abomination by beating the crap out of him several times and eventually killing him ruthlessly in issue 23. i'm going to be honest i was kind of rooting for general ross in that story but you can't keep a solid villain down in comics and in the incredible hulk issues 6 18 through 6 20 we see the abomination brought back to life by the chaos king although that doesn't last either because abomination is eventually given back to death by the end of the chaos war moving on we have the 2014 hulk series where abomination is resurrected for good by the ancient order of the shield in issues two through four however he doesn't come back in his right mind and iron man helps the hulk defeat the reanimated abomination and send him to the planet jupiter then in the amazing immortal hulk series by al ewing issues 18-24 we see rick jones brought back to life in a shell of sorts made from the remains of the original abomination transforming him into a grotesque new abomination in true monster horror fashion overall there are a ton of great abomination appearances and stories to choose from but now let's take a look at his powers and abilities as you would assume abomination is very similar to the hulk in his power set his strength speed stamina durability and even his healing factor are basically identical having said that he does excel in certain areas for instance abominations based strength is twice as strong as the hulk because blonsky was given a dose of radiation three times more concentrated and intense than the gamma dose that turned banner into the hulk having said that abomination does not become stronger as his anger intensifies like the hulk does which gives him nowhere near the whole strength potential in the end as for other differences between abomination and the hulk abomination is able to keep his intellect as the abomination and cannot transform back into his normal human form he stays abomination 100 of the time he also has unique fish-like gills that allow him to breathe underwater it's actually one of the character's most distinct physical traits and thankfully marvel added that to his live-action appearance with his return in chongqi after leaving them out in the incredible hulk movie altogether abomination is a dangerous and formidable adversary for the hulk and every other hero in the marvel universe now let's get you all some reading recommendations you want to read tales to astonish issues 90 and 91 silver surfer issue 12 as well as thor issue 178 but you'll
