well i finally got around to doing this i told bj i'm gonna sit down and i go you know what now i've got so many knives that you've modded they will if at all barely fit under the camera and i've already sent him several others and now i got a couple more that i'm going to send to him and then i'm going to thin out some of these but hilltop knives and gear bj hill and obviously i found my thrill he was coming right getting my knives pimped by b.j hill and bj hill yep he'd been pimping all right he's been pimping and i've been paying uh and it's really interesting because he first approached me um through instagram he direct messaged me because he saw my video on the yo jumbo and the thing about the yo jumbo was is that it had this humpty humpty whatever going on here and i go the problem is the hump hits me in all the wrong places and i didn't want to look for ergos in all the wrong places there's a song about that and another thing was um i didn't like the fact that the post came up and hit me in the finger but that does it on everything right it does it on the on the shaman as well we'll talk about that here in a minute so i sent him the knife and he changed the ergos of the handle he bronzed the hardware which obviously is not titanium so you got to do that with a flame and then he acid washed the blade and then he did some weird things on the blade which was like he did the post delete and then gave me a choil so this gives you an idea of the original blade except i did a post delete on this as well but this shows you how that blade happened now he went to a true worn one clip type look right so i just thought this might be interesting for you guys to take a look at what different things he's done you know with these knives and i better be careful because he also did that and that is all kinds of crazy s sharp i don't think he did i don't think he put an edge on this one he says it was already sharp as crazy but this one he did and they are incredibly sharp so for the price of the mods and you'll have to ask him because see i seen him like four or five different knives and so i just paid him a lump and then i sent him some other things and we traded and so it was got crazy but you'll have to discuss cost of mods with him the yo jumbo now all of a sudden here it is great ergos no slap in the thumb um it's just nice choil area up here so i can actually work up on this uh they're just so many advantages to the way this thing is you see that i mean it's just drops right back in just beautiful stuff it's a beautiful thing somebody used to say that oh and oh kaiser so the sheepdog xl now i don't have a regular one i will in a couple days but i'm gonna send it off to pj and have him mod it because the micarta one is out now um they had the big old boxy flipper tab okay it goes about skyline and new york high and it's about that wide and it's ugly so i said could you just take it off and then put me a chill in there because i don't need it and he could just drill me a hole in the blade and then i could just flick it open and there's my liner along so this is that carbon fiber thing now uh i think these pivot surrounds were blue but then he bronzed the hardware and acid washed the blade now if this isn't bad boy goes even badder his batter a word what the hell batter up but this is really cool now he learned something off of my knife because this is the first one he did and he goes crap you know you kick it open and now your fingers hitting here it's hitting here that's not good so he's now moved this hole a little further down now if i just touch it right up here at the top and kick it open i don't hit that so i've learned how to function fine with this one because i can do that and i'm not hitting it but if you're all in if you're all in stuffed in that hole then yeah you're gonna get you're gonna get struck by that as you go but so now he has figured that out so that's why the micarta one's going to him to get pimped and that hole is gonna change location a little bit a little bit acid washed the um the pocket clip okay so uh wow that's just all kinds of cool i love the sheepdog xl i love the big old cleaver thing i just think it's great and for him to be able to drop that big ass ugly flipper tab off of there i mean no insult intended to chris conaway who designed this sheepdog uh collaborated with kaiser but this is mo betta beretta it's mobetta in my book now i did a review on the tropin and i go i love this design i love this knife and i'll tell you what what's really cool about it is this is the waviest wave feature that'll ever get waved out of your pocket in fact it'll be difficult to pull this knife out of your pocket without waving it open and that is maybe going to be your biggest problem but it this waves open really great and it's just such a beautiful design god i can't remember who was who is the guy okay yeah boyd or whatever his name is but i mean okay now here's the thing the blade because of this choil let me open this up okay this choil if you'll remember was kind of slanted backwards it was like here and slanted kind of backwards so this blade continued from this area all the way to like here okay when you drop this thing now i mean this is going to hit your thumb it's a flipper tab so unless you take that away and the problem is if you do you really got no you you could flip it open on this but this is going to get old after a while to do that so i kept the flipper tab um but i had him expand this choil out in fact not long after i got this i haven't did my review i saw somebody that showed this expanded choil on their instagram and so when i thought about the yo jumbo i thought about this and i said bj can you do that and he said yes and so check it out there's no blade here i can't get cut no matter how stupid i am there was guys like oh if you're just not an idiot you won't get cut well okay but i'm an idiot so now what's my defense so that took that away yet you still i mean there's still some cutting edge on there right folks and look at the shine on that edge that he threw on there too so not like it was dull when i sent it to him but he buffed it up pretty good and this is really a great knife oh this is a winch clip i forgot that was kind of fun trying to get that fitted because uh you got contours here and they really fit well when you don't have a contour but when a contour you got to kind of roll it around and refit it or this will stand up too high this clip but now i probably need to tweak it a little bit right there um but nice tropine just a wicked ass cool knife just it's so good so good but talking about the hump delete okay so the post delete came off of here so this is my shaman and rex 45 which should have a orange and or a wooden handle but i took the one from i can't remember what knives knife joy or something that had the green and i had two of them and so i swapped and got rid of the other one but so this showman has a post delete so he took the post off and then he bronzed the hardware which really looks outstanding in this forest green but i didn't have him acid wash the blade or anything yeah you know and i i i thought about it but i i think satin is fine it's it's good for this but no no bingo bango on the thumb which i bitched about when i first did the shaman and i kind of thought no i don't want a shaman and then later i came back around to the shaman and it's very endearing but still the the bang with the post on my finger and they go well if you time it right you just time it right i mean pull your finger off just before it arrives you know blade arrives and you're okay well i why am i having to do the adjusting you know i'm paying over 200 bucks for this damn thing it need to be adjusted so bingo not a problem now um he let me show you two knives real quick that he did not do he was gonna do but then he lost his power unit for anodizing and stuff although this is flame anode so he sent this this is my district nine battle flipper okay so none of this was like this okay that was just all silver you can see that review on my channel without these mods okay so that's my district 9 battle flipper and ocd for edc check his channel out and of course you know please subscribe to hilltop knives and gear then i you know i saw something on the battleflipper where somebody had just blew this area here kind of like see these holes here it's like a hot exhaust so you know when a stainless steel exhaust gets hot it colors like that right so like hot exhaust coming through here too so colored that as well and then this excellent excellent so i love this the district nine they have a bunch of different models they've made the problem is they come out one at a time and then they disappear and then they're done they're out of production so that's it you're all done okay and they ain't cheap neither but this is the district nine battle flipper beautiful beautifully done world-class knife and now even better and speaking of ocd we've got the red queen 2 and there were only so many of these made and if you saw it and everybody's calling the batman flipper and i don't get it i don't understand why they're saying batman or batwing or something i i don't see that particular aspect of the deal but the mokume uh inserts here and of course then they give you a set of marble carbon fiber ones you could flip out it's like that's not going to happen i'm definitely staying with these but this here i had seen a picture where this was blue in this surround see this was silver this was all just like the gray of that around here and around here and on here and on here but i had seen one where it looked like this and so i sent this to bj and i said i want it like the picture i saw and his power unit went out so he sent this to ocd so um he did this and he did a great job there so now we got the blue the blue blue blue so he did that in the battle flipper so i'll give him credit for that right there what do you think handsome good looking knives right there these are keepers here i know this is crazy this is insane comes in a big beautiful plastic box this red queen too but there weren't many made and so because you know i like knives that come in a very limited you know you want to keep the ones that come in a very limited edition because it just ain't around you just can't go back around pick one up like you can a shaman a yo jumbo a kaiser sheep dog whatever right they're out and when they're out they're gone and when they're gone good luck right so and then battle flipper well the district nine knives you can't go back and pick up the 20 2017 or 2016 whatever ones they're they're just when they're gone they're gone secondary market good luck so i did those are the two that he did now back to bj and i got this this is the centauri by artisan knives and of course great looking knife isn't it just a great looking knife so this centauri is a leconico design okay done with artisan and the this is the only one this in blue and this in a purple tymascus that were done where the front and the back were the same all the rest of them are either carbon fiber on the front or g10 on the front and then titanium on the back but they're half and half and i go god that's the only laconico knife that i can think of even is uh monterey bay and stuff like that is stuff that he did with kaiser whoever that he ever did on a half and half so i wanted a full tie or i just wasn't gonna get it well i got this and i sent this to bj because the hardware was silver and i think in my review i said guys it'd be nice if the hardware was bronze or gold or something because it would really stand out much better with uh this kind of setup and man i mean this i know it's it's you know it's the pimp daddy knife it's all pimp but it's it's a beautiful knife no doubt about it and it's really not it's really nicely done but yeah that's that's all he did here is flamed the hardware because that's that's all you need to do now let's get into some of the meat and taters because this might be something that you're interested in okay i looked it i should have started the video right here okay i'm minutes and minutes in but i really should have started right here because this is really what got me into him doing a bunch of mods not just the yo jumbo and the tropin but i saw this on his site okay cjrb crag okay ain't that just a isn't that knife just no no it doesn't do a damn thing for me sorry no negatory there good buddy i saw that and i go it's kind of a cleaverish looking thing but i don't like this flip or tab it's too freaking big um you know look at that i mean that's a monstrosity talk about the sheep dog was bad this is too you know it's like why why and i was like why couldn't you do that well i'll do you one better brother man check this out where's the flipper tab now what i saw this this is what was funny i saw this on bj hill's instagram and i go what the hell is that what knife is that i mean i messaged him what the hell knife is that or he may have he may have said it in his in his description underneath like what knife is that that is the crag hold on whoa whoa whoa back up hit the brakes where the hell does that resemble the crag look at that blade i mean he bj made a whole different knife he you made a whole different knife this knife could be made by anybody because it is not a knockoff of the crag is it look at that nobody would think that now of course yeah you're looking at the scales now okay i get you but no flipper tab hole nice acid wash blade and beautifully sharpened might i add and i just got this from white mountain i think and threw it in a drawer because i said when this gets back i want to show them before and after shots um yes and the crag ain't nothing it's 35 bucks maybe all in something like that okay so it's not an expensive knight it's d2 g10 blah blah blah no backspacer open design blah blah but look at the difference look at how this knife is just that is so nice that it is a design yes absolutely and it's so easy to function with because that hole there i mean no problem so look at the difference in that choil area the flipper tab delete then he bronzed the hardware okay and acid washed the blade so this only ended up being like 235. and 200 was the mods i'm just kidding i i'm just trying to freak you out like but you know what i'll tell you what i laugh and i i laugh when i talk to other friends of mine but also when i was talking to bj and i go who wants to pay whatever it costs for this i can't remember i had several lives done at the same time but whoever wants to obviously it's more than 35 bucks for him to disassemble your knife flame bronze your hardware acid wash your blade reprofile the whole re-grind the whole thing and put a hole through there so that's yeah it's a crazy amount of work what the who cares right but you know what people do people do i've seen them take sanrenmu or inland knives and throw 75 worth of mods into them i've seen people you know well i mean just like a pm2 i mean people pay i don't know 130 140 for a pm dough two and then they'll pay fifty dollars for a titanium clip or more and then they'll pay another seventy five to a hundred dollars for replacement scales and then this and then the little plug delete there and all the different different back spacers and [ __ ] and they'll have like 300 bucks at a pm too okay i mean so people do it and that's okay and that's okay um and so i did it too and because i'm a crazy person but i really like this and see he did them in kind of this powder blue he made them a little bit different color than this uh take it to more of kind of a powder blue but more of a blue blue in there or this purple and i said oh definitely got to go purple gotta go royal so uh this is just now [ __ ] shut up okay um but i just thought that was cool now let me show you another thing that i think you'll really like the praxis well this is the praxis in purple with the damascus blade right okay so bb praxis so i just have this because i wanted to show you yeah this is what the praxis looks like this is what the hill praxis looks like okay so what he i did is i just sent him the regular praxis blue scales right so he didn't have to dye it or anything but put a hole in there okay and but left the flipper tab okay and bronze the hardware so that i thought was really nice it really pops with the blue and i'm you know really uh on second thought i think i could have had him delete that flipper tab as well are you getting flippered out i mean i don't mind flipper knives okay that's fine this and that but uh the size of the flipper tab matters to me the placement of it and if there's a lot of good ways to open a knife i don't need a knife with 10 different opening methods front flipper top flipper side flipper uh you know fuller hole cut out dual thumb studs blah blah blah i don't you know i don't need it junked up with a lot of ways to open it i just need to be able to open it and this is good enough if i just want to roll it open uh that that cutaway because if you've noticed this is not a flipper it's got a hole in it spyderco does that for a reason it's called spidey flick so yes actually this could have deleted the flipper tab and been fine so there's a thought for you if you have a praxis laying around and you want it to go bad boy right with this acid wash now he can heavy stone wash it for you too but i think if he's gonna cut a hole in there you probably ought to either have it stone washed or acid washed just to kind of de-burr it you know and that kind of thing so excellent i mean i really like that that that's just that's aces up to me and not that i have a problem with the praxis overall but the praxis is a really practical knife and so yes now let's go back to cjrb the felspar now the feldspars get pretty popular with a lot of people and the reason is is because it's just a great design isn't this a great design look at it i mean beautiful ergos here just hand slides on there it's it's a cheap knife it's inexpensive it's d2 blade and i remember outpost 76 got the belts bar from hellspar right and he was like it was off center he couldn't he couldn't get rid of the blade play it had some other issues with it but i've i've had four or five of these and i never have had a bad one they've all been centered no lock rock no blade play and they've all been great so how weird is that right that's sucker centered that sucker centered okay no problem okay but i sent two of these and this was in the natural g10 so it's that kind of opaque green translucent green okay so i sent him two of them because i said i want them done differently but i i think the with the acid wash blade with a purple scale is really outstanding um i don't know why but that dark acid wash with the purple really looks good and i ended up with two different shades of purple because he experimented right so this is a little darker this a little lighter now and i said i'm not sure about the thumb studs okay um and so he did it both ways he did a cut out and then he did thumb studs so then he bronzed the hardware on both of them so you got bronzed thumb studs and hardware here and then you got bronzed hardware here interesting now here's the thing about this this hole you're right up against it right there the problem is when he makes that hole he's got to put position it in in relation to where this thumb stud goes through because that's got to be accounted for somewhere in the diameter of that hole he drills so um it was a little bit of a you know of maybe a sacrifice there to put it there because that's probably not the exact place i would have wanted it necessarily but it works okay for me if you've got smaller fingers it works even better if you got way bigger fingers it's probably not going to work better but yes i can still kick it open and i still showed a couple of my buddies both knives and they all preferred the one with the hole as opposed to the one with the thumb studs okay go figure you know nice action on it but what a good looking knife what a practical blade shape and of course you can look at the edge on them you know i mean he touched them up too they were brand new but i mean so i got me a really sharp user easy use knife that makes a lot of sense easy to carry nice contoured g10 scales and just a great design i mean i think it's classic i could see this in a bigger knife they do make it in smaller right but i could see this even bigger than this but i got the large or at least the standard size i'm paying him for the mods i'm doing okay so uh i'm not nobody's paying me nobody's giving me anything for free it's just i think it's really cool what he's doing and he's a young guy and he's trying to make this work as far as his job and i can imagine that he is so busy that this will be a this will be a job that he will be doing everything he can just trying to keep up with um and so i feel like he's competent and um he's imaginative because this just blew my mind when he did this because where do you see that i mean really where do you see that i don't i don't have that kind of vision where i can look at a blade like this and see a blade like this and uh it fascinates me but it just makes a piece that's unique right there there's not another one of these well now there are there's some others of these around but not many because you got to have him do it or somebody do this exact same thing to do that and i just think this is excellent this uh this fell spar why are they all purple and the praxis three knives that are really interesting maybe a flipper tab delete delete on that too right then you'll have three with no flipper tab but they're easy to to open so people are always asking me well who do you go to to get stuff anodized or you know if you need to you know cut a bigger choil or if you want to do some mods on a knife or something like that well okay here's one place right
