High School Girls Volleyball: East Ridge vs. Wayzata

another top 10 battle awaits us in class 4a girls volleyball including a team that has not lost since 2019 one of the most recent state tournament champions the wyzeta trojans number one in class 4a hosts the east ridge raptors eastridge with the number 8 spot looking for a statement win greetings everyone i'm mike beaton all by myself talking to myself that's chaos theory but one thing that isn't chaotic in fact why is that a the opposite of chaotic a cohesive fun group they're not afraid to be silly they're not afraid to have some fun at anyone's expense including themselves but when it comes to playing volleyball when it comes to making big plays why zetta is tops 29 straight victories going back to their 2019 state tournament run they were 13-0 in the condensed season that was cut short due to the pandemic this year they have not dropped a set 9-0 they are rolling through the field it looks like the first class 4a state championship will run through wyzetta at least if the current rankings are an indication but scott jackson and the rest of the wyzeda team would tell you there's still a long way to go between now and november that being said this why zetta team is loaded and we mean loaded there are three confirmed college commits katie revere she's going to north dakota ella vogel who is headed to unc greensboro and emma gerger who will play at st thomas stella swenson one of the top setters in the state gets the offense going for wyzetta and when it comes to the hitting game they have a lot of options including sarah moore and katie revere who lead the team in kills but all the way down the rotation you can find somebody who will step up for the trojans eastridge they're going to look a little different tonight michaela mcdougall suffered a bruised rib over the weekend she will not play for a little bit but this raptors team still has depth i talked to steve anderson before the game steve anderson the eastridge head coach and he said this team is right there they just got to find a way to get over that proverbial hump they're four and four but they have played some of the top teams in 4a awfully close champlain park shakopee lakeville north it will come down to consistency that being said you can never count out a team with three d1 commits of their own rick carlson going to texas tech cameron greenwald to montana state and maria chapman playing at st thomas so we have a little bit of a st thomas affair of sorts with two future teammates going at it this is the last regularly scheduled non-conference game for the raptors barring tournament invites and it will give them several lessons on what they need to do to win the suburban east and perhaps make a run in section three we'll be back to start things off this battle of defending conference champions east ridge the defending suburban east champions they've won that conference two years running wide zeta the defending late conference champions similar streak [Applause] why zetta take a look at this 9-0 they haven't dropped a set so for those keeping track the trojans have won 22 straight sets in 2021 they will serve to start this game eastridge had a straight set streak going that was snapped in the loss to champlain park earlier this season [Music] and we're underway [Applause] [Music] here's brick carlson going off speed wyzeda with the read [Applause] and going down the middle for the first point is avery jesuits [Applause] has their way [Applause] jesuits is going to be one of the names you hear a lot as we said this yzeta team has a lot of weapons they can spread the offense around [Music] that will be a hitting error charge to number 10 addison mattis addison getting the start tonight as we noted in the open michaela mcdougall unable to play due to a bruce rib so steve anderson had to shuffle the line up a little bit he was impressed with giselle tau who came in in the lakeville north game when the raptors were struggling and she held her own zeta elects to play it i thought brick carlson was going out but the rap doesn't get another chance and carlson hits it out of bounds so a couple of hitting errors on the part of eastridge [Applause] not what steve anderson was looking for [Music] and that will be a service error on number 28 katie revere [Applause] but this is a team their top six hitters 239 or better in hit percentage they don't make a lot of mistakes was that deflected yes much the dismay of the eastridge fans and emma gerger the six six middle hitter scores six five six six however you look at it she's tall good served by the trojans here comes carlson with the lob why zetta makes the read they attack again from the left side and that is paying dividends early sierra moore who leads the team in kills picks up one there moore 373 hitting percentage three and a half kills per set overpass is tapped down the middle [Applause] and a timeout for eastridge wyzeda off to a flying start but they have been doing this to just about everybody in the early part of the season sweeps include maple grove chaska saint michael albertville minneota the number two team in class a the series to look for with wazetta is minnetonka they're scheduled to play them twice minnetonka was the last team to beat them back in october 12 2019 at the saint margareville championship as you know weekend tournaments are best of three instead of best of five september 28th and october 12th are when those two are scheduled to meet and minnetonka worked their way into the top ten with some statement wins in the early part of the year including lakeville north they're going to be a group to watch the late conference has three in the top ten and st michael albertville not far behind [Music] quizetta off to a 6-1 start and that will go to number 10 stella swenson who made the dig and found a spot in no woman's land seven one run to begin this game for the trojans [Applause] and brick carlson has been neutralized thus far another attack is dug boyzeta going off speed eastridge goes right blocked netball and crimins couldn't get the pass to carlson cleanly and the run continues for wyzeda an impressive display thus far [Applause] [Music] [Applause] carlson almost added but why zetta making a hustle play for the save carlson again and another fine play by revere [Applause] carlson tries again finally gets a point let's see if this awakens the east bridge offense carlson will rotate out and again when you see that in volleyball that is not an indication of talent or struggle or anything of that nature it has more to do with match-ups rotations where the players are strongest so when you see players sub out it's a little different than basketball or football [Music] where usually you put your best five on the floor it's the best players for that specific match-up that will be a hitting error charge to revere the first hitting error unofficially against the trojans since 8-3 eastridge as we noted in the open their last non-conference game of the season they will play suburban east teams not counting the weekend tournaments from here on out big dig by eleanor kremens that's cameron greenwald with the lob and it bounces off revere awkwardly revere made the initial play but the ball took a weird carom around revere and she's flexible but she's not elastigirl bonus points if you get the reference so east rich with a couple of points with chapman serving and make it three straight points as chapman lands the eights chapman going to st thomas 83-inch reach [Music] 103-inch approach jump lobs that serve here comes wisetta they're denied and the raptors finding rhythm here madison mattis i believe made the play mattis one of two freshmen on the roster alexis oakland the other and eastridge making this run with chapman serving they scored four straight cross-court kill for sierra moore [Applause] moore started the season with double digit kill performances 13 against maple grove 20 against chaska single digits since then but why zetta has won so many games in runaways they don't play a lot of points that's a cut that finds the line cameron greenball keeps it in and eastridge scores two-point margin 9-7 and eleanor crimins [Applause] you can see she goes way back to the end of the basketball baseline to wind up her serve [Music] [Applause] greenwald a little too hard right idea but why is that uh making a good read on it the trojans the number one team and the most recent state tournament champion in the big school class service error on stella swenson the second on the trojans i talked to some of the players beforehand and they had a hard time figuring out how to categorize their situation specifically we didn't have a state tournament last year this is also the first year with four classes so that adds a little bit of entry and speaking of entry mel goldstein i believe made the play [Applause] but come november borrowing something weird we won't have to debate defending champions under the old format because we'll have four state tournament champions cameron greenwald was going to send a free ball over and instead gives wyzetta a free point greenwald hit the net there and stephanie blanda who was with us in her last broadcast noted [Music] the approach angle can play a factor as well [Music] it all depends on how you play the ball and greenwald that time turned what could have been a broken pass into a point so he was able to get it past the net so a little bit of an assist from the tape we might call that a tape point a tape kill it's 12-9 but this eastwood's team they're brazilian we were with them in the season opener when they fought off four set points against prior lake on route to a straight set win scoring on the cut was katie revere the north dakota fighting hawk recruit she and emma gerger will become conference rivals next year [Music] overpass and that will go to wyzetta officially it will go down as a ball handling error but avery jessowitz was ready to make the play for the trojans [Applause] [Music] [Applause] another deep serve this time carlson can make a play on it diving up jesuits again got it jesuits with a pair of kills in the early going jesuits with a hit percentage of 239 coming into this game [Applause] one of four trojans to average at least two kills per set oh collision that's going to give a free ball to the trojans [Applause] they'll set up number 26 and mcgregor to the middle and gerger scores her head percentage 425 [Applause] doesn't rack up a ton of kills compared to some of her fellow hitters on offense but 425 she is efficient and why zetta leads 16-9 it was a two-point margin a little while ago since then a 7-2 run for the trojans and eastridge has their work cut out for them jesuits makes a play at the net after that dig went back her way another timeout for the raptors 17-9 unofficially three kills in the first set for avery jesuits who has managed three kills or more in every game this season jesuits 94 inch reach six foot two inch height 120 inch approach jump that's 10 feet that's a lot of height certainly the opposite of riding low no wars here though for wyzeda just a trojan march to what they hope will be a first set win one of the team building activities the trojans took part in earlier this season a scavenger hunt they said they like to have fun they goof around they once played a prank on scott jackson a fun prank that is scott does not have an affinity for tie-dye shirts so during a practice the players decided to sport some tie-dye muscle sleeveless shirts with the inscription we heart sky [Music] and i think scott and the rest of the team will heart that service ace from the arm of mel goldstein unofficially the first ace of the game for the trojans [Applause] carlson with the line shot no it went out of bounds it looked in from here but now they rule a deflection so that point will go to carlson but the raptor's struggling here in the first set they scored four in a row and why zetta has taken over since then [Applause] [Music] wyzeda going off speed there's giselle tau who will set it up for carlson tries to go in the cut shot the ball almost went into the curtain or town with another up carlson with the heat that bounces off the ceiling and i mentioned this a lot [Applause] at most high school gyms when the ball goes into the ceiling like that it creates what i call a plinko effect it can make her some weird bounces and that time carlson landed in the ten thousand dollar slide [Applause] that's a point for wyzetta i wasn't sure if the initial attack crossed the net in the eyes of the officials it did and was touched by eastridge and stella swenson going off speed to register her first kill swenson a 280 hitter when you look at percentage as carlson puts that one in the net swenson more of the setup artist she averages more than 11 assists per set but when she goes on the attack she does a good job finding her marks too 280 nothing to sneeze at some confusion on the part of east ridge why zetta will get a free ball and jesuits just missed the mark only the second hitting error unofficially in this set for the trojans [Music] five for the raptors and all of that adds up [Applause] jesuits again eastridge able to get a block that time and winding up for the line shot is hadley berger we haven't called her name much but we just did there [Music] burgers approach 111 inches and macy spoladoro picks up an ace [Applause] [Music] you'll see a lot of 110s and above with the eastridge hitters in terms of approach jump why zetta has a pair of 120s in gerger and jesuits hitting error charge to desolates and why zetta [Applause] running into some turbulence [Music] [Applause] coincidentally brick carlson her approach jump also 120. so a lot of ten footers when it comes to approach big up by crimmons here comes carlson with that 120 inch approach and that goes into the wizard of bench you know what gotta give props to carlson she was struggling early and sometimes that happens in the sport of volleyball but you just gotta keep plugging away with untimed sports you never know that's why you got to keep firing emma gerger doing just that for the trojans unofficially her fourth kill in the first set that 425 still impresses me oh no [Applause] gerger knew what she wanted to do with it but didn't time the serve received properly and she'll get the hitting error and i'm not cheering for why zetta over eastridge in case anyone's wondering about my remark you just hate to see that as a fan when a player knows what to do they're ready for it and they just can't put it in big save and a fine hustle play by stella swenson but eastridge getting a couple chances why zetta making some nice plays we have a stoppage in play [Applause] [Music] and a why zetta player touched the net that's a tough break the trojans made a couple of great defensive ups and saves that was a quality chance for a point instead it's eastridge who comes away with the score 21-18 wyzeda answers with authority sierra moore once again [Applause] more with her third kill she also has a pair of games with 10 dates 10 or more i should say well i set up by four eastridge out of timeouts in this first set [Applause] big block by greenwald why is that able to get another chance more again another save by wyzetta [Applause] they will not go away quietly that's one reason why they're so tough greenwald again racking up the digs on this rally including a couple of big ones to keep the play alive but persistence finally pays off for eastridge on the cut by hadley berger that was a fun rally to watch though why zetta doesn't mess around three-point margin mizeta still has both of their timeouts if they need them more was i thought it was going off the block but instead that block stayed in play [Applause] and now it's a two-point margin eastridge exhibiting some resilience here they were trailing by nine i believe and now it's a two-point margin [Music] [Applause] green wall was that deflected no [Applause] this wayzata team though they know how to work their way through adversity closing out is going to be the key for them and why zetta they've been challenged before on sets a little bit of miscommunication there so i believe hadley burger will get the point chaska pushed them to extra points in a set back in august [Applause] so they've been challenged at times but they have been able to close out [Applause] winning 22 straight sets netball we play on greenwald three ball for the trojans here and moore cashes in wyzeda with three set points to work with moore will go back to serve [Music] [Applause] moore's not one of them but wyzetta coming into this game had five players with ten aces or more [Music] greenwald off speed that goes over the net eastridge can't do much with it and closing out the first set is katie revere who fires a line shot down the right side and wyzetta captures the first set 25-21 that makes it 23 straight sets won by the trojans we said this before they are an awfully tough assignment eastridge will have their work cut out for them so we'll see if wyzeta can keep this set victory streak intact when we return when the high school season is over dsp efficient than eastridge when you consider the number of errors unofficially six for the raptors why said i had a couple later in that first set but overall more hits than misses including four kills unofficially from emma gerger [Music] so the teams will stay on the same side it's coach's discretion this year and more often than not they have elected to stay in one place one of the carryovers from last year's pandemic protocols as we start set two and why zetta starts right where they left off another kill this time on the off speed hit by katie revere revere with three games three straight games with 10 kills or more to start the season she has four overall and that's going to be a block [Applause] i believe emma gerger made the play there [Music] and why zetta off to another high flying start [Applause] that serve receive went into the net [Applause] so unofficially we'll give revere the ace on that one of the five with 10 or more entering this game ella vogel leads the team in that category with 15. and stella swenson with some velocity on that setter dump and a 4-0 start for the trojans in set two make it nothing off another eight from revere the north dakota recruit [Music] picking up a few kills a couple of aces what can't she do carlson vogel with the up here comes jesuits you bet [Music] talib will make a play on that serve carlson fires why zetta can't save at that time although not for lack of trying [Music] eastridge scoring their first point of the second set that's been an issue thus far they start with a big deficit as a result of why zetta's hitting mizota got a friendly bounce off the ceiling that time but eastridge ducks out of the way and jesuits will be charged with the hitting error [Applause] [Music] let ace for maria chapman her second if you could master the tape [Music] you'd be a millionaire another big serve vogel has to bat it over he switch with a free ball they go right and hadley berger picks up another point [Applause] she had three kills unofficially in the first set and this has been the story of the game so far why zetta goes on a big run eastridge able to make some counters they did the last time chapman was in the service position the problem is eastridge starts with such a big deficit it's tough to overcome against a team that has yet to drop a set this season but addison mattis wins the play at the net for the raptors that time and it's 6-5 why zetta started with five straight points chapman served that one just out of bounds her first service error [Applause] [Music] notably for eastridge all their kills came from three players why zetta got a little bit of support and that's one of the offensive contributors greenwald who scores on the line shot greenwall her approach jump 116. 94-inch reach going to montana state no doubter that time crimins serving for the raptors and a center dump falls for another point that's the second setter dump employed by stella swenson as we said though 280 hitting percentage so she's not afraid to pounce on scoring opportunities 8-6 the score [Applause] [Music] [Applause] couple of overpasses and a wiser player i believe touched the net so raptors will score and we'll get a look at emma stem who started tonight in place of mcdougall eastridge cannot get the save sierra moore will get credit for that one [Music] [Applause] [Music] and here is stella swenson [Applause] with a tough serve why zetta doing an excellent job in the service game tonight and an eastridge player touched the net [Applause] it looked like it was kelby oakland [Music] and it's 10-7 why is that scoring the last two points more i should say revere what the off speed hit my apologies katie but you can do nothing but revere the offensive fluidity of wyzetta another tough serve [Applause] winzetta with a prime opportunity and there was nobody to back up eastridge there another kill for the trojans 12-7 and that will be enough to get steve anderson to use one of his two-time outs that was mel goldstein we talked about the chemistry exhibited by this team demonstrated by the i heart scott tie-dye shirt prank that the players pulled on the head coach and he took it in good stride and that's what he said this team no egos about them you don't have any players saying i should get more playing time and he has a lot of faith in his four captains telling me that if there is any problem one of the captains would relay it to him so there is a culture of trust communication cohesiveness togetherness all of that one of the many reasons why zetta is in the conversation year in and year out for the most part if the volleyball team had their way they might call themselves the wyzetta pukes puke or pookie is the nickname they often refer to each other [Music] and i mean every player with the exception of sophia orweg who they call wiggy to separate sofia orweg from sophia johnson but pook the adopted nickname for everyone on wyzetta and cameron greenwald adopting her hitting game to score a point there that's what you want to see if you're eastridge following the timeout it's 12-8 raptors still have the work cut out for them [Applause] green one with the up that was a high up and another center dump stella swenson the center dump [Applause] has been on point impressive work she opened the season with back to back 40 assist games 40 against mabel grove 47 against chaska picked up five aces in the win over rogers five that will be a hitting error charged to oplan unofficially the first against eastridge in the second set [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] carlson blocked gets her own up and picks up a tape kill her first in the second set carlson if you've followed our coverage before typically does not start when mcdougall is available two sport athlete plays northern lights club volleyball and north tartan club basketball and it's rare to see an athlete because that will go down as a hitting error against mel goldstein it's rare to see an athlete play on the top teams in two different sports but katie revere doesn't care about that she just cares about racking up kills and she has done so splendidly [Applause] five unofficially [Applause] an off-speed ace with a little bit of help from the tape [Applause] mel goldstein will get credit for that [Applause] carlson fires big up by moore revere with another play now it's jesuits tau with the dig and carlson misfires tried to go off speed and instead hits it into the net 17-10 why zetta rolling once again [Applause] [Music] goldstein with a big up against carlson but they can't stop for a second time carlson has a bright future ahead of her at texas tech and as we said before got to give someone props for competing in two sports not only on varsity but at the top club level service air on spoladoro not a lot of service errors in this one [Applause] [Music] trojans still lead by seven carlson scores again she'll rotate out here comes chapman when chapman gets into the service position eastridge able to mount some rallies let's see what she does here [Applause] chapman with a couple of aces to her credit and chapman hits that one a little too hard so the raptors cannot capitalize on that rotation [Applause] here's a look at sophia johnson one of the two sofias [Music] and she hits it out so they cancel each other out now eleanor crimins will take her turn johnson [Music] 11 aces entering this game two aces for every service error so you like your production and you certainly like her defensive hustle as she kept the play alive hitting error charged to burger and it's 20-13 wyzeda closing in on a 24th straight set win [Music] 24 straight [Applause] that's a lot of sets [Applause] a couple of net balls now moore will set up and goes cross court once again moore with six kills unofficially east ridge will call a timeout they trail 21-13 and the trojans well on their way to capturing their 24th straight set win we mentioned conference play minnetonka the team to watch eden prairie those two will meet october 5th the eagles working their way into the top ten after a straight set win over lakeville south a couple of non-conference games of no october 11th champlain park will come here ccx will broadcast that one live coincidentally we want to thank ctx for syndicating this broadcast and then october 19th why zita will hit the robe to play bloomington jefferson the jaguars got a big win over eagan lost a closer win to shock at being tournament play but champlain park and jefferson figured to give the trojans a challenge will any of them take a set or get a win against wyzeda we'll have to find out but this why zetta team is deep a lot of seniors in this group so they'll look a little different parody outside of wyzetta who hasn't lost a set parity a big theme between these two or in this class i should say service here at charge to emma stem the number two spot has changed hands several times already champlain park bolted vaulted up to the third spot [Applause] moore picks up another kill lakeville north got a win over eastridge but did not get into the top ten still trailing [Music] but not by much northfield is up there lakeville south if they find their groove they could be a force cameron greenwald with a forceful line shot for another kill greenwald doing pretty well tonight a lot of northern lights ties on the east ridge roster this was a match up as that will be a hitting error charged to iseta this was a series the two coaches steve anderson and scott jackson hoped to put together last year but pandemic protocols prevented that from happening [Music] from the back row it's greenwald vogel with the dig and that sets up revere wyzetta with plenty of set points had to bat it over to keep the ball in play and why zetta wasn't prepared for that one of those bang bang plays though you can't fault why said it for that jesuits made a play two eastridge players almost collided with each other wazzetta with another chance it's revere with the line shot to close out set two katie revere unofficially with five kills to go with the two she picked up in set one moore with seven kills unofficially and what impresses me most about wyzetta how efficiently they spread it around [Applause] like we said a lot of attackers with hitting percentages at 200 or above and that hit the antenna the antenna is a no-no [Applause] sierra moore had the right idea but make contact with the antenna point for the raptors [Applause] and that will follow the point for wyzeda that's the second time where we've had a close call [Applause] if you're an eastridge fan you might see that play differently but a couple of instances where [Music] in the views of the officials eastridge made a touch and the trojans are making the most of it and that's what you got to do you can't worry about how officials call the game no matter what direction as [Applause] mel goldstein picks up another point goldstein 347 hit percentage has chipped in a few kills [Applause] that will be an ace unofficially for the trojans as they take their first lead in set three this is stella swenson who had five of them as we noted before in the win over rogers and if you think that's crazy [Applause] i'll get to that point in a moment rick carlson with the cross court shot [Applause] ella vogel had seven aces no errors in the win over canby in the southwest minnesota challenge [Applause] 5-5 the score after the point from carlson [Applause] for the most part wyzetta has kept carlson in check she's gotten a few points but they've been ready to make plays on it mel goldstein making a play down the middle for a kill [Music] [Applause] good serve by moore swenson with the up vogel the set free ball for the raptors they haven't had too many of those and carlson makes the most of that one [Applause] carlson's windup motion tough to contain [Applause] this is what east ridge sets they were staring at big deficits early another service here on spolidoro she's had a couple of those unofficially six service errors just three aces and against a team like wyzeta you have to limit the mistakes because you can't count on wyzeda making too many of them but just as i say that goldstein serves it into the net and assumes responsibility for it but with rally scoring you just gotta shake it off and try again goldstein is one of the players with 10 or more aces just one service error entering tonight so overall efficient in the service game [Music] and chapman has struggled as of late that's the second straight service error [Applause] for the saint thomas recruit and we are tied at infinity why zetta will break that tie thanks to katie revere unofficially has three aces [Music] and with that revere will continue her streak of gains with at least one ace scoring off the block as jesuits and waizetta starting to build some separation but revere has now played in nine consecutive games where she has served at least one ace [Music] [Applause] a fine set and a fine attack by the raptors addison mattis the 6-3 freshman with the score manus figures to be a centerpiece of future teams for the raptors and why zita will look a lot different trojans able to make a play in the overpass and keep the rally alive but greenwald finishes the play that is her first kill of the third set eastridge doing well on the attacking front to start this third set it's 10 10. vogel the or to set up jesuits now greenwald [Applause] gets her own up vogel with the up on the off speed play revere going off speed kremens with a diving save free ball for the raptors here spoladoro to set for burger good block by the trojans jesuits got it [Applause] [Music] jesuits with six kills unofficially [Applause] [Music] greenwald yes and now we are tied at 11. [Applause] whoever can go on a run figures to have an advantage here that was a low serve why is it able to make a play on it and moore hits it into the net for second hitting error in this third set tough break [Applause] for the d1 commit she hasn't decided which school she'll play for but everyone knows she'll find a home somewhere at the college level service air on emma stam and they noted and just about everyone had to deal with this the pandemic upending a lot of things the recruitment process among them vogel on the server [Music] and a hitting error charge to greenwald this is not what you want if you're eastridge [Applause] because vogel the most lethal of servers for wyzetta 15 aces [Music] entering this game hasn't recorded one yet but vogel is not someone they want to give an extended rally to and unfortunately quizetta squanders that opportunity as revere hits it into the net we're now tied at a baker's dozen or the number that would make trisca dechophobians nervous [Music] carlson looking to break the tie just missed [Applause] leads 14-13 in the third set high school volleyball the number one team and the most recent state tournament champion in the big school class was that end no [Applause] and why zetta struggling a little bit as well [Applause] 14 all but why zetta has had an answer for every miscue mel goldstein coming on strong in the third set [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] carlson and a lift is called mizona made a good play on it but i agree with the officials there was a little bit of a carry or lift as they put it but unofficially that's the first ball handling error i have on why zetta again these two teams especially myzeta they don't make a ton of miscues or at least you don't want to expect them to and just as i say that why zetta had some passing issues and that results in a point for the raptors they retake the lead 16-15 of course you have to win by two to capture a set but eastridge hanging around [Applause] you can kick the ball but eastridge couldn't kick it high enough and that's going to be a point for revere her first in the third set we're tied again at 16. both teams still have both timeouts available carlson that was a big up by goldstein carlson hit the antenna so the defensive effort by goldstein pays off [Applause] carlson with a few hitting errors tonight she's made plenty of kills though and myself takes the lead 17-16 but not for long the second service error on goldstein [Applause] this set neck and neck chapman has struggled her last two times gets that serve in play and scoring off the block is revere [Applause] [Music] and revere serves that one out of bounds unofficially her third service error she's had a few aces but it's been feaster famine on the part of revere [Music] [Applause] that point will go to wyzetta macy spolodoro mistimed the hit was trying to catch wyzetta off guard but didn't make clean contact with the ball and that put eastridge in a jam that they couldn't get out of and that's a name we haven't called in a while but tapping down the serve receive was emma gerger and that's going to be enough to get steve anderson to call a timeout crucial point here in the third set 20 to 18 myzeta wins this one and they will stay undefeated 24 straight set wins for the trojans eastridge looking to make a rally here and get wyzetta off their game some other fun facts about the trojans they have a couple of ice eaters including see her more and she doesn't play a lot but jaden morrison the rest of the team is convinced is either superwoman or captain marvel they say she is impervious to pain and also can get through an entire practice session without a water break everyone else is dumbfounded as to how she pulls it off but they say jaden morrison made of steel made of some indestructible material steel vibranium i'm not sure but i feel it spread to the rest of the team the way they performed over the last couple of seasons a 29-game win streak [Music] an undefeated 2020 season and so far playing the 2021 season without dropping a set but cameron greenwald is hoping to put an end to that streak she has played well when she is stationed on the left side 20-19 low serve why is it able to make a play on it raptors with a quality chance it will be greenwald who's blocked not a lot of blocks tonight but emma gerger gets a welcome reception gerger will play at st thomas next year she and chapman will be teammates and i'm sure chapman and gerger are looking forward to being on the same team a year from now and was that touch no stella swenson pleading her case but to no avail and we have a gopro so that's giving us some great vantage points another hitting error this time on moore moore struggling a little bit in this third set three hitting errors and we're tied at blackjacks 21. [Applause] but why zetta answers back as they usually do in moments of adversity [Applause] [Music] goldstein again wyzeda takes the lead crucial sequence here eastwood still with a timeout [Applause] and an ace for stella swenson [Applause] the vizeta fans chinning start the buses but [Applause] they can't quite do that just yet eastridge still in this why zetta two points away from their tenth straight win to open the season stella swenson back to back 40 assists games 11.1 percent entering this one and 10 digs in the win over minneota to capture the southwest minnesota challenge tournament championship and a reminder that wyzetta has some big games coming up in late conference play along with some non-conference matchups against champlain park and bloomington jefferson a lot of dates of circle on the calendar and eastridge will start suburban east conference play after this white bear lake the first opponent on thursday eastridge still the favorite to win the suburban east but woodbury could be lurking and stillwater could be a dark horse as well but katie revere looking to [Applause] spring the trojan horse i'm sure why is that has heard that more than once three match points for the trojans and they won't need a swenson with another ace and wyzetta makes it 25 straight set wins [Applause] and 10 straight wins to begin the season their 30th streak going back to 2019. 25-21 25-17 25-21 an all-around effort from wyzeda but that's how they do it game in game out tonight was no different as they knock off another top 10 team in class 4a so why zetta makes it 25 2019 state championship but 10 wins 25 straight sets to start the season what do you make of this beginning i don't think too many schools expect to not only win like you do but also not drop a set you know it's great to see because we just come in with high expectations and we try to do what we can to keep solid and keep going with everything that we have we have a strong team this year so going in with that definitely helps us a lot a solid team and a strong all-around offense it's not just you but katie and even stella with the set of dumps and the aces a lot of players on this why zetta team can step up and make plays tonight was no different what do you make of the depth and the chemistry on this team it's just awesome lots of us have been playing together for a really long time it's just really great to all come together and be able to like have everyone very deep in each position and being able to be ready at any moment stella a few aces tonight including the game winner you and several other players it's not just the hitting game that's on point but a lot of you are also threats to pick up aces and as we noted earlier you knocked in a few set of dumps too so you're an opportunistic setter on this team how have you developed that offensive capability just time and time and time in the gym 24 7 working on those dumps because that's something i always like struggled with when i was growing up because i couldn't get my hand on the ball it is something i've worked at and worked at it's just worth work ethic and how would you say your work ethic has helped you evolve your game over the years it's definitely helped me improve in many different areas like as a setter i can be good at so many different things blocking there's not just settings blocking serving defense even dumping there's so many things that i could be better at so i keep working and thriving every day at those and i'm not smart enough to pry any secrets from you but for anyone out there looking to get into this game what is the key to making a good set or dump or just providing that all-around effort because as we see it's not just how you set up your teammates sometimes uh you get to play a little bit of that point guard in basketball and score some plays on your own it's just all about staying calm like when you just you just got to feel the moment you got to know it's you know what's coming that's the best way if you stressing out it's not going to work these guys stay calm level-headed that sounds about right and katie i imagine that came into play you struggled a little bit in the third set with hitting errors but you came through with big plays and we saw that out of waizetta any time they made a miscue it wasn't long before they found a way to make up for it what do you credit for the trojans resiliency i think just our practices like we come into practices trying to better us all the time and we have drills where we are specifically doing one thing until we succeed at it so i think it helps in a game where if we make a mistake we know we have the skills we know we have the players behind us to help us better our ball next time and i know you and the others were chatting about how you classify yourselves as defending state champions and whatnot i don't know if there'll ever be an answer to that but after what happened last year having the season cut short to have a regular non-conference portion and to do what you're doing how fun is it to get back out there and to resume some of those goofy dancing antics that might have had to been on hold from last year it's definitely so fun to be back in the gym with these girls i mean these are lifelong friends i've known these girls for so long and just this is our senior year for some of us so it's super exciting to be back in the gym and have it feel normal again so it's really nice although i take it you're not going to enjoy having a future conference rival actually a couple of them tonight uh in action so i imagine that's gonna change the dynamic a little bit but owing to what sierra said about friendship what have you enjoyed most it's a senior heavy team you've been through a lot you've won a state championship together you hope to add another but what have you enjoyed most about being part of this volleyball family i think i mean you said it perfectly it is literally a family here i could come to any of these girls with anything even our coaches we have a great coaching staff on this team and they're all people there i like really truly see as pretty much my family and i talked to you beforehand i i'm wondering if this is part of your strategy so if you make it back to state we know there's a long way between now and then will you bring tie-dyed shirts for warm-ups i mean we'll just have to see probably maybe might surprise people scott might not love it but hopefully all right so keep your eyes peeled you might see some tie-dye shirts make a
