High Moisture Corn Harvest near Ruth Michigan

[Applause] hello and welcome to the mike less farmhand mike youtube channel bringing you some of the biggest and best variety and definitely the most versatile farming content on social media today you can find me on youtube instagram ticktalk and facebook at farmhandmike when you're running combine and have that view over there that's just pretty awesome that's almost as awesome as watching that mike less guy on youtube that is one good looking tractor in green court hey everybody i am out in the corn field up in the thumb area michigan near the town of ruth i am out here with a local farm as they are harvesting corn high moisture corn that is with their john deere s 680 combine that has a drago 18 row corn head on 30 inch row spacings on it and hauling the corn away from the combine to the trucks is a john deere 83 10r tractor pulling a brent 1080 grain cart in this video you will see the entire process as they harvest the corn in the field haul it over to the trucks where the trucks haul it back to the farm they are grinding the corn and blowing it on a silage pile they just got started here today so the silage pile is just getting started but as i said you're going to see the whole process with great drone shots and on the ground shots as well for the best feed value they like to do this high moisture corn when the corn is in the 28 to 32 percent moisture range with the cord coming off at this high of moisture once it is ground pushed on the silage pile and packed down it'll be more in the form of silage and this corn does not have to be dried down this makes great cattle feed and that's what they're using it here for there was a lot of action going on on the farm today as they are still finishing up corn silage where they are chopping the whole plant that was going on in a silage pile next to this one unfortunately i didn't get any footage of that i wanted to show off this john deere combine with this 18 row corn head this part of michigan also grows a lot of sugar beets i did get a sugar beet video just a few miles from here that video will be coming to my youtube channel just as soon as i get it edited here in the near future the thumb area michigan has some very beautiful farms some very big farms there's a lot of different crops growing up here a lot of big dairy farms and there's a lot of cattle that are fed out here for beef as well i also visited another farm up here that was chopping ear corn for silage a little different than this they were using their self-propelled forage harvester had the corn head on like the combine has here so it pretty much snaps off the ears so that runs through the forage harvester that is chopped and processed but that has the whole cob and the husk as well so there is a couple different ways to do high moisture corn both ways make great feed and it's not that often you see an 18 row corn head on 30 inch row spacings i have videoed some 18 row corn heads in the past but they were either on a 20 or 22 inch row spacing we'll watch the combine tractor and grain cart here for a little bit then i'll bounce back to the farm and we'll see the corn being ground and so forth another thing if you think corn silage smells good high moisture corn really smells good my smell has got awfully messed up since i had the corona virus but it did not take my ability a way to smell high moisture corn or corn silage so that's a good so so so so so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] so so so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so so so so [Music] [Music] [Music] that's gonna do it for this video i hope everyone enjoyed it feel free to hit that like button and comment below feel free to hit that dislike button if you choose but if you do hit that dislike you have to give me a reason why just kidding anyways if you are new to my youtube channel please consider hitting that subscribe button and check back often there is always new and exciting farming content coming to my youtube channel and if you want to see more of what i'm doing you can also find me on instagram facebook and tick tock at farmhand mike and as always thanks for watching and supporting my social media
