the penultimate event of the 2024 pre fontain classic and listen to the reaction for the world champion as Sonia said at the top when you win the world title that thing on your back isn't a number or a name it's a Target and there's a big Target on Shaker Richardson this year as she gets ready for her first Olympics [Music] and we've seen the number of World versus Olympic Champions here today and another one here in the hundred yeah and Elaine Thompson her is opening her season here now why open your season in a in a race this hot it means that Elaine Thompson hi is probably ready to run she and I flew in on the same flight earlier this week and I looked at her and I thought wow she looks so ready this is where her personal best was set in 2021 after the Olympic Games the second fastest time ever here's Julian Alfred the world indoor 60 meter champion from St Lucia and the University of Texas it's a loaded field and a lot of eyes on the world watching this to see who is going to emerge as the early season dominant 100 meter Sprinter so a season debut for the reigning Olympic champion debut in the hundred 100 this season for the world champion women's 100 and we keep an eye on the middle of the track but it's Julian Alfred now with the lead But Here Comes shakeri Richardson world champion takes down the field at three 1083 for shakeri Richardson a lot of questions have been answered shaki is ready for the Olympic trials no doubt but the Olympic champion Elaine Thompson her really was a drift of this [Music] field so shakeri is dead center four to her left four to her right and she got a good start Julian Alfred was out with her but she was able to celebrate way before the line so Shaker's ready we saw her in China having some just sort of middling results in the 200 but she went back to work under her coach Dennis Mitchell and the Olympic champion Elaine Thompson Hera dead last so any questions that were to be had have been answered at least in the immediacy Shaker's ready to come back here in just over 3 weeks time and make the US team Shak car everybody here at Hayward Field is so glad to see you back in the track what did it mean for you to come into the stadium hear the Roar for your name then get behind the blocks and deliver this win today honestly it feels amazing I just want to say thank you for the support from everyone I'm honestly back on the track grounding myself this years's been humbling and I just understand no matter what's going on to always stay focused on the mission at hand so it feel exciting hearing everybody Tri my name and it gave me reassurance from the outside that I am still who I am and just focus on being just me we were noticing the performances in China where had a couple 200 races that didn't seem like you from there to today how have you gotten things changed back to the smile and the performances that we're used to seeing um I'm going to answer this question how I feel like I should answer and I'm going to say at the beginning of the Season definitely um every race counted as an experience as a lesson and I feel like the beginning of the Season again was humbling for me to remain focused on the mission at hand despite what's going on outside and I had to feel like that was humbling for me to remember who I was and to continue you to just remain focused on what I have been doing if that makes sense yeah take us from the start and the block you right there in the center of the track you had a lot of other stars from other parts of the world there with you your focus your mindset the great start and then the way you finished um from start to finish just remember to execute I feel like execution was a big thing from executing from 10 to 20 20 to 40 40 to 60 60 to 80 um let every phase of the race have my full Focus focusing in on my Lane there was a lot of amazing athletes women from other countries that want to come and do just the same thing which is win and represent their best selves so today it was just best for me to just execute so I feel like I did that it won't be long before you're back on this track with your opportunity to try to make it to Paris what are your thoughts about leaving here with this 1083 under your belt uh it feels good definitely for a season opener I feel really excited about it I know there's so much more work to be done so I'm excited that there's room to grow um definitely like one of the greats that do what I have said what makes this race so exciting is that the fact that you can learn every race there you can be better so I'm excited to come back and feel the magic at Hayward Stadium we'll see you back here thank you share peace love life
