well here's something I've known for quite some time now other people I realized Honda and Toyota are no longer pretty much interchangeable for making the best vehicles even consumer reports an earliest issue isn't including hardly any Honda's on their list of best vehicles the Consumer Reports pick of the top ten vehicle contains whole bunch of Toyota Lexus vehicles but it's only got one on two on it now you talk about the odyssey's and the problems they've had some of the smaller cars that don't ride that well I've known for a long time that the quality of Honda's has gone down a lot more rapidly than the other car manufacturers years and years ago they started using plastic parts where they used to have metal then they would break and then when I went to the dealership guess what the replacement part it was a metal replacement part they weren't giving them free I had to buy them for the customers but the point that you know how to buy a metal part for your car that came with a plastic part at the dealer asagna their quality isn't what it used to be no of course there's many reasons for that and what people talk about style and ride and things like that the Consumer Reports I take a lot of stuff people out with a grain of salt because of course they're not mechanics I see the mechanical I see behind the Odyssey transmissions other problems that Honda has that Toyota hasn't gotten into now yeah Toyota's having these problems with the fuel pumps and stuff but really it's a fuel pump I got this bought the back seat take out a little section for place to pump away you go it's not like the transmission is gone and it gonna take days to fix and if it comes out of your pocket it's gonna cost you three four or five thousand dollars to repair so hitters haven't got nearly to that point where the Honda's they certainly have now Honda's from the 80s 90s and the 2000s they're notorious for their reliability and even a consumer report said that yes they were but they're not putting them on their lists anymore because of the problems that they're having not from my perspective Honda probably makes the best engines in the world they make more four-stroke motors and nothing other company in the world they're really good at making engines but the rest of their vehicles though they're still starting to lag behind really breaking news those are like luxury cars Lexus is killing off their GS luxury sedan you might think oh boy they failed on that well this is just a marketing thing this don't make some plenty of cars but to cutting out the GS luxury sedan if you're a member 20 20 and they're Hunnicutt off the GS 300 they're just kind of fiddling with their models now the GS was only 4% of their luxury market anyway so it isn't as big of a deal the high point was when they sold 23,000 of them in 2015 last year for example they only sold 3300 of them but they just a model that whatever Friesen for whatever price they decided to drop that model and the first three months of 2020 of course with the sculpt and stuff going on they only sell six hundred and twenty four of them so they just drop in that particular model so if you want to get the last fancy one you could get their black line special they're only making 200 of them who knows maybe it'll become a collector's item a family make two of them they're good cars there's nothing wrong with of cards it's just they decided that particular model if that price range didn't fit in with what they were selling you separate one 3-1 so Scotty I'm thinking of getting one of the 20 20 Honda Civic Susanne's the Sportatorium I know Honda has CVT or liability issues and I'm not the big fan of manual training so Civic type-r wouldn't be charged I don't have enough money anyways what do you think's the wisest choice Lexus does cost too much and I don't want to buy a used car well the civics are okay but I mean if you want to buy a wise choice ed I get a Corolla tell me how to make sure really good CVTs knows Corollas understand Toyota was the first one to really mass-produce CVTs correctly because all the Priuses have CVT transmissions they've been making those sync for 23 years and even though you're not buying a hybrid it's the same technology it's a CVT transmission my son's got a Corolla CVT and he likes driving standard transmissions and he does admit to me he likes the CVT it's got plenty of power and he actually gets better gas mileage Dan it was rated for so you even got a Civic if you but I go Corolla on that the CVT z'n Toyota are infinitely better than on the ones you will say once a Scottie my daughter's car oh wait Ford Taurus X Oh wheel drive v6 six-speed automatic 100 47,000 miles no code starting to have an intermediate transmission issues when it doesn't move for it and drive turning off and on fixes it done it twice sad but true it's probably time to get rid of that thing when it doesn't go that invariably means it doesn't go you turn off started up the transmission should start to go out inside it could be the Sun gear going out or it could also be the pump is starting to go out automatic transmissions are kind of like your engine they have oil pumps that pump the fluid through them standard transmissions are just splash lubrication just splashes but an automatic has a pump when they go bad they'll do exactly that and those all-wheel-drive Tauruses that things twelve years old and has one hundred and forty-seven thousand miles that's pretty much you're reaching the end of the lifespan of that particular all-wheel drive transmission you're not gonna get much for it if you sell it anyways and if it does that and then it goes and driving rides the rest of the day I mean maybe it'll do that for years and you can still drive it so I say the driver till the wheels fall off or it doesn't move it off or just get rid of it and get a more reliable vehicle because that one's pretty much at the end of its lifespan w bridge to size I'm looking at buying oh six Honda Civic Alex from a private seller automatic eighty six thousand miles that vehicle is a history with engine block cracks this one did not receive the repair when it was covered now it's not should I buy this they want fifty two hundred bucks now walk away from that if it wasn't fixed onto the warranty when it breaks not Honda doesn't care you're not gonna get anything fixed then so don't don't buy it I don't have her buy something that's a known flaw if it hasn't been fixed if you have a choice you know now why buy a problem take like an O seven Toyota Camry was that four-cylinder engine they burn oil Toyota under their extended warranty if you were under a hundred thousand miles they would give a test they changed your oil fill it up tell you to drive it a couple thousand miles seal everything bring it back after burn a certain amount a while they'd rebuild the engine for free but only there's certain mileage you definitely wouldn't want to buy one of those things that's over that miles that didn't have it fixed now on the other hand if it had it fixed new Pistons and rings go ahead and buy that Toyota same thing without Honda it wasn't fixed under it by it why take a chance Alexis Gonzalez 818 says I got a little seven Nissan Xterra v6 hundred and eighty eight thousand miles cold stock it makes a funky noise like ticking and there's no oil pressure the dipstick isn't low for a few seconds I've been reading about Xterra and they say it's probably a timing chain or sensor should I fix this or should I live with it yeah that timing chains we're on to tension is where but so do a whole bunch of things on those X terrors you got one hundred and eighty eight thousand miles that engines basically at the end of its life anyway my advice as long as the sound goes away after a few seconds drive it till it breaks then when it breaks junker you saw it mal you'll get nothing you'd be lucky if you get 1500 bucks I'd say I had it at last month or a year or two more what the heck you're riding on free time with that you don't want to tear an engine down you're gonna spend a fortune the rest of the vehicles worn out you did say it's an automatic transmission that's gonna go out eventually so just drive it till the wheels fall off and then the next time get a Toyota cuz if it was a Toyota one it wouldn't be taking and to one hundred and eighty eight thousand miles it's just starting to be worn in if you would have got like a pie Lander I got a customer the Highlanders got five hundred fifty thousand miles of the original engine and doesn't make any noise thousand one hundred Scotty I have an O five taco with the one gr Fe when I step on the brake warm up the engine the RPMs drop willing geared shudders at stoplights when I remove the brake light fuse the problem goes away I changed the bulbs but it still drops it thanks okay well you got oh five taco man that taco must be stale by now I couldn't resist that joke now you removed the brake life using the stock so there's only really three things it could be one would be you got a weak battery have the battery load tested that solves it simple it's not the battery have the alternator load test in places like autozone do it free alternator out charge and we'll do that the other thing is you know I'm an electrical short somewhere in the brake line system somewhere between the brake light switch and all the way back you never short and when you step on it it everything out cuz it's shorting out the electrical system but not enough to blow the fuse so since it doesn't blow the fuse but it died the car my bet on that one is either the battery or the alternator or both are weak and that's why it's caulking out like that but if it is actually a taco I wouldn't eat it if it's that old st. Larry's just Hamre 2.4 liter engine 66,000 miles well-maintained ones grandma's car it's it's for $8.00 I started up a blue smoke comes out what's the problem well the problem is they didn't build those right but you're in luck because it's only got 66,000 miles Toyota had like a hundred thousand mile warranty on it you take it to them they will do a test line and tell you drive it and bring it back and if it burns a certain amount of oil they will rebuild that engine free for you because they didn't do the piston rings and the pistons themselves correctly and I've had that done with someone that goes to her cars if it's over a hundred thousand they'll say no it's too many miles but that's under that Mouse the only problem is like china-us wheedle that it's too old but that mods especially if with your grandmother's car raise a stink and do the ultimate trump card tell them Scotty Kilmer told you about this probably come to fruition I did that with a customer that got overcharged 12 grand for a Toyota Tundra and they wouldn't give her the 12 grand back from what they overcharged until I made a video on it and then the local Toyota dealer guess what gave her a check for $12,000 so I'll mention my name and they should rebuild the engine free so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that Bell [Music]
