Henry VIII's Widow Catherine Parr's Abandoned Mansion | Tudor England

today we are exploring this beautiful abandoned manor house built in 1564 the second family to reside here held the estate for nearly 200 years the last member of the family was beheaded for treason and the mansion passed to henry the apes widow catherine parr [Music] it was eventually purchased from the crown and worked on a great deal this is what we see here today including the early english renaissance wood garden its neat hedges and tidy pathways still holding their shape this may be the final glimpse of this garden in its prime [Music] [Music] it was eventually inhabited by just one woman right up until the second world war after the war the council purchased the estate and it was then used as a children's convalescent home the idea at the time was that poorly children would benefit from country or sea air some would have stayed here for a few weeks some a few years tragically permanently disabled children were sometimes abandoned at these places [Music] finally it became a hotel in the 1960s and was still in business until june of 2020 after already going into administration it was forced to close its doors for good due to the pandemic [Music] it now sits silently in the countryside waiting for the next chapter [Music] guys here we go look at the different tiers of the garden all going down big pillars look like these have ornaments on there probably something carved this place looks incredible just look at that guys you don't see abandoned buildings like that every day old fountain wow the old fountain imagine how this would have looked in the day with the water coming out the top architecture on top of the window wow oh my yeah 1856 that's incredible wow we've made it inside and look at the architecture in here it's unbelievable all hand carved handcrafted look at the fireplace man look at the carving work that is beautiful light shades with the crystals hanging off of them oh yeah there's a camera up there look at the floor the tile work main doors in oh it's the bar this place is so clean look at this guys it looks like it's just ready to pull the pine cellar has a fireplace as well old chimney going up chandelier in the hallway as well wow this is grand wow oh man this floor marble tiles on the floor black and white checkered wow yeah look at that guys stained glass at the top beautiful work on the chandelier brass chandelier [Music] yeah hopefully we can get on the roof for this and get some good views look at the stained glass and the door that's incredible the stained glass in that big window i didn't even realize that it's all the way out all the way yeah i was literally just saying the same thing get some mad views from the roof do the roof at the end i think yeah it's like chandeliers in almost every room the old fireplace still got the original tiles roses on them [Music] [Music] there's a stained glass from the other side look at that chandelier the fireplace that is a big boy all marble as well so all got oak paneling look at this [Music] no look at the stained glass that's the one from the other side wow something else [Music] [Music] [Music] wallpaper that's how crazy this place is no just look at the size these are all the hotel rooms we'll be staying in even the hotel rooms have chandeliers at the bathroom i wonder how much it would have been to stay a night in here wow yeah the view wow i wonder how much these rooms would have been don't think they would have been cheap no oh yeah so we've got a massive like guest room four poster bed cabinets tv cabinets look at the bath wedding style it that is insane it's clean man [Music] everything's turned off little circle poor old window and what the views like up here oh man that's pretty hard looking at the back mate get the view out there from the parliament oh crap could have just been spotted guys i know he's going there little shower [Music] [Music] you know what they're saying they're saying this is like blind mana so it could could be haunted man it's old enough wow fire place in your room this is the top dollar room this has been like the the wedding silver wouldn't it wow this is where the magic happens yeah yeah this is the basically i can imagine modern modern times orchid cabinet here tv draken yeah oh yeah when the full poster and the yeah doing her thing when she sneaks off i'm gonna follow her and we're gonna see what she gets up to a little cubby hole look at the bathroom that's a marble wow i've never seen marble like that before looks like petrified wood oh my god jess is trying to lock me in the bathroom small one whoa it's like a like a loft annex yeah jesus this is a big one that's a big boy smells nice in there yeah it does every this is more of a modern bathroom this one so it's open in this room and we're gonna head outside on the roof hopefully we don't give away our cover and ruin the explore too early i reckon it'd be all right look at that legs straight up oh don't explore tight childhoods man guys shake it all about thank you very much here she comes just the ninja nice work there's time wow look at this courtyard oh my god oh so it's slightly in it oh they've got a nice decking out here come up here eat breakfast in the summer oh that's the leaves happening oh my jesus christ i can't have a long way down oh wow i didn't see that on the outside that's like a proper turret yeah it's like from a castle wow wow guys this place is incredible it's untouched chandeliers in every room we've just had a little look on the roof the views are beautiful we're gonna head back in now there's like a castle turret we're gonna try and find access to fingers crossed we can get to it but let's do i don't think it was good made it back into the annex the loft room still blown away by every room in this place i wonder what future holds for this amazing building five places in here are insane different type of marble in almost every room yeah oh it's like a double yeah i've done this upstairs yeah look this has got little birds on the tiles this one oh man little birds yeah some of them upstairs like silver feet back out into the courtyard that would be a dodge bathroom yeah i know literally i wouldn't be able to see it look at the shape of this so old fashioned just found the way underground as a rhyme goes quite far down underground whoa it's like proper volts oh my g that's probably victorian times yeah that is proper victories i've never seen a basement like this this the pillars are made out of granite could yeah you could be right man probably was a long time ago horse horse stables yeah definitely because that's been that's been there in the state that's it that's right wow sounded longer [Music] yeah that's like an archway yeah that's what's on the lip as well crap wow this is wow that's like a proper cave huh quite dangerous and all the slate is like hanging down and stuff yes what do you reckon man i don't want to say no i know but god looks so much bigger than we thought that's wet that is where draken has deep water there it doesn't look like you're under the lake there's a look at the royal national well as well we are next to a whale's true man it is a bit sketchy you know wow no it's not deep it's not deep it's like pebbles guys this is crazy it's like a never-ending tunnel you can hear running water down here man yo [Music] mates just never ending [Music] a little waterfall [Music] wow this is just under the mansion i can't believe that it's like a proper waterfall coming down here wow guys this is crazy [Music] mate this is never-ending man [Music] get small down here wait it just keeps going i don't know whether to keep going or not [Music] oh it's too tight this gets so small you have to crawl [Music] is it still wet yeah yeah i'm turning back man yeah yeah it gets so narrow you have to crawl on your hands and knees [Music] huh yeah oh mate it's so tight literally just gets narrower and narrower [Music] now you ate me all right guys as you can see i'm literally crouched right down in a little ball the only way we can keep going as if we crawl along this way our floor whoa but we decided when captures up jesus yeah man how much twice again it gets pretty tight you have to you'll have to crawl i'm tempted to do it though yeah we're going to go straight back after this here he is actually easy organized my legs are killing though no one's out there putting the graft in like this man jump on my torso down again this is like never-ending man look how small that is uh you'd have a hard job crawling down oh jesus you have a hard job crawling down there i don't recommend that much no it's like a rabbit hole man yeah oh well we've done most of it wow i'd much rather watch somebody
