because I got some things I want to show you make sure I've got some loaded on the brush and then away [Music] hello everyone today what we're going to do is something I don't do a whole lot of and that's so we are going to shorten a couple of pairs of jeans hem the jeans and keep the original hem okay I do have a pair here that was done by a dry cleaner and you can see how they brought the hem up and didn't cut the rest off and what I did was I took some peel-and-stick fabric fuse and fused this part down because my boot was getting caught in it so I do have a new pair of jeans here that I haven't been able to wear yet because they were too long when I got them so what we're gonna do is walk you through how to do this very simple and very easy and you actually can do this by yourself okay so let me get everything set up so I can show you okay what I'm doing this time is I have lined up another pair of jeans up underneath the pair that I do need to trim or hem I should say and I'm following their seam line I'm following the crotch line here I have them all laid out exactly the way the underneath pair is okay and what I come up with here is here is the edge of where those jeans are home to okay so I'm gonna measure from the edge of here to the edge of where the jeans should be okay and that comes up to two inches so what I need to do is actually divide that number in half because if I sewed it here and turned it under your pants would be that short okay so we need to just take that number and divide it in half so I'm gonna go up an inch and I'm gonna pin it all the way around down here at the bottom because I'm gonna be running my sewing machine right here so you're going to need a sewing machine with a denim needle and I believe that may be like an 80 check your manual for that and then you're going to need thread that matches the color of your jeans which just a deep dark blue or something will be fine because we are going to sew along this line here gonna do a quick check last thing you want to do is have them be too short all right let me see here I've got this up and this is my second leg so I'm gonna lay the pair of pants down so you're gonna lay your pants out like this okay fold them in half put the crutch together here lay them out very flat as flat as you can and then that will give you your your end to make sure everything is the same measurement okay so if you have a sewing arm it's a very best thing to be able to do and that's just a little plate it's a little plate that can come off so that you can actually put a sleeve through here or a pant leg as we're doing today so I've got my sewing machine also the easy press has come up to temperature now and I'm trying to do a nice crease right in here so that it just makes it a little bit easier when I turn this over to go ahead and stitch on this other line so I'm gonna turn these over get the other leg done now that I have my plate free I have changed my settings on my sewing machine with the last pair that I did so I should be good to go we're just gonna insert this right here and don't start on the edge make sure these edges are lined up when you do pin them and then when you sew them make sure they're straight also okay but I'm gonna start over here just right past the the side hem or the side seam I should say and get that as close as you can they do recommend like a side foot or like how a zipper foot is I guess where it is just on one foot is only half of what this is I don't have one so I'm just gonna go ahead and do my best so we are set now carefully put the needle in and make sure that it sits right next to the hem okay we're trying to hide our stitching because when we turn this back over we're gonna make sure that you don't see where we stitched and don't worry about going slow because you want to make this look nice when you get to these sideseams they are pretty heavy because you've got all of this fabric here just be careful you may want to walk the needle through it just so that you don't break it give it a little push as you go and stay as close to that little edge of Japan without going on it and see how heavy this how thick this fabric is here I'll show you what I got here okay and you can see I stayed pretty darn close to that scene the next thing that we're gonna do is we're gonna turn this right side out and there you are you're hemmed with your original hem on it like kind of train that fabric to lay down nicely you can do a zig-zag stitch right in through here and then that way you can cut all this off I'm just putting my that edge of my presser foot up here along the hem it gives me a nice guide to go by okay once again we're getting up to that side seam so let's walk this through carefully so we don't end up with on this okay I'm going to take my pinking shears and those are the ones that give you a little crisscross if you can see that okay and I'm gonna cut this off do not cut your stitching here we are so now it is a very short edge on here so now when we turn this back we don't have that big lump of fabric in here now I got this at Walmart is a permanent adhesive it is appealing stick fabric fuse so what i'm doing here is cut this in half and lay it right in here this is so very sticky it's kind of hard to cut a whole bunch at one time so i'm gonna just do little bits so it's sticky on one side and you have a piece that you need to take off on the other so i'm gonna lay that right in here okay do the same here I put the tape all the way around making sure that I did not cross this scene here which is our original scene so I'm going to peel the tape off and this is super-sticky now all we have to do is fold this over fold it over make sure you kind of get this taut there you have it you have a finished Jean with a new hem a short hem so you don't have this big blob sticking up behind you and we have Zig zagged we cut off the excess and then we used a peel and stick fusing tape so there you have it I hope it's something that you'll go ahead and try it's pretty simple if you like this video go ahead and press the like and subscribe I have videos that I'll be putting out hopefully every week and it's all about lifestyle things we can do things we'd like to do decorate create and entertain thank you [Music] [Music] you
