have you been mining helium for a long time and simply just left your miner at your house and forgot about it or maybe you just got started last week or about to receive your very first helium miner well it really doesn't matter which scenario you're in i'm glad you found this video because the heathen network is about to implement a massive change and this may affect your rewards dramatically and in order to keep your earnings high you may need to make some adjustments [Music] hey guys this is moto tech welcome to the channel if you haven't please subscribe and like our videos for each like we receive on our videos one dollar will be donated to unicef to help out millions of children around the world feel free to check out our previous month donations under our community tab alright without further ado let's get this started [Music] in one of my previous videos i explained why some people are getting invalid witnesses they have brand new miners with a high gain antenna that costs over 100 dollars why invalid witnesses then well the answer was simple for most people the signal was simply too good currently the major way for the helium network to determine which witness is valid which is not is based on this graph as you can see there's rssi and there is snr rssi is the signal strength the closer to zero the better snr is the signal to noise ratio it can be positive or negative normally positive is better because that means your signal is standing out which is good for the receiver however in order to prevent gaming and cheating the helium network decided to implement this graph when the signals are too good and the snr is too high which is very possible that the miners are just sitting next to each other in a basement they decided to make these witnesses invalid so they receive zero rewards from them this has a very good intention however this also has hurt a lot of people people who have been mining for a while probably noticed there was one time in the past all in a sudden we started receiving a lot of invalid witnesses because of this proof of coverage rule went into effect and sometimes having a high gain antenna actually hurt many logic miners because their good signals were determined to be invalid so now with a september 14th 2021 update the firmware has a inactive feature which is poc version 11 and that is proof of coverage version 11. currently we're still on version 10. this fundamentally changes how proof of coverage works and it will change how your miners transmit we're going to discuss these changes today and we'll talk about what of the things you should do you know in the usa miners transmit at 27 dbm which is about 0.5 watts however in europe the miners can only transmit at 14 dbm to meet the local regulations as a result the area european miners can cover is about 20 times smaller than the us hot spots so some people decided to either amplify the signal using a power amp or simply have a high gain antenna to modify the signal in a certain direction and there are also people doing gps spoofing and geo hacking poc version 11 is going to change all of this the first major change is that instead of using rssi and snr we will be using rssi and distance to validate the signals the second major change is that the internal gain you put in the helium app will actually mean something for poc version 11. currently and previously all the helium miners are default to have a 1.2 dbi antenna and all the miners are transmitting at a fixed power however when poc version 11 comes whatever antenna gain you put down will be also considered into your miner's transmission power and what that means is that let's say if you have a 10 dbi antenna and you're in the u.s instead of transmitting at 27 dbm your power will now be reduced to compensate the 10 extra dbi you gained in a certain direction even though your antenna does not change your overall transmitting power but with a 10 dbi antenna now your miner is transmitting less so let's say if you have a 3 dbi antenna comparing to a 10 db antenna your miner will calculate that and decide to reduce a small amount of power but it will still be more than a hotspot that is using a 10 dbi antenna so now everybody's miner will be transmitting at different power based on what dbi gain you're putting for your antenna and then when you transmit a signal the distance will be used to calculate the energy loss in free space travel to determine the ideal rssi for a witness and this way you can also triangulate a miner's exact location in terms of prevent hacking i think this is really good because the distance and rssi will make it extremely difficult for people to game the system so after all that talk what are some of the actionable items so number one for me personally i'm going to downgrade the antenna for one of my miners because there are more miners around me now even though hitting a miner that's far away with a 1.0 transmit scale will give me a lot of rewards but using a high gain antenna will result in a lower transmitting power for my miner and as a result i could be losing more witnesses overall because i may not be able to hit the closed miners anymore and for my other miner in a rural area i'm still gonna keep a hiking antenna just because there aren't many hotspots around i know a lot of people are probably gonna start asking what is a good low gain antenna i will show you the one i use so i have a 3 dbi antenna from seed which is the company that makes a sense cap it also makes 5 db adb and 7 dbi antenna this is a 7 dbi antenna from cd it's glass fiber it doesn't have any uh logos on there it just says laura fiberglass antenna and the good thing is the frequency is 900 to 930 megahertz and i actually tested this with nano vna at 915 megahertz it has snr of 1.1 which is really good my 3dvi is currently hooked up to a minor and it's doing better than i expected and by the way if you've watched my previous video you would know that seed also makes wild terminal and the lorawan module to make a helium fill tester i already made my previous video on part one i have recently received the lower rm module so i'm going to make the part two of the videos soon overall c's product has really high quality no wild terminals is even microsoft certified device it's not like some other companies making product out of their barn or garage i would say since cap m1 is definitely my favorite miner now especially after waiting for so long for my bobcats and it's still not here yet they also have their own portal so if you're like me running devices at my family members or friends places you can also keep tracking the detail status of your devices at one place and there are some people saying since cap cpu is not powerful enough and that is completely not true and this thing's been running around 25 and the highest was at 45 it was nowhere near the cap so the second actionable item for me is to update my hotspot information to make sure the antenna on there is actually the one i'm using and some people may think well i'm just going to use a high gain antenna i'm going to put down my antenna is 1dbi so it can use a high gain antenna and transmitting at a high strength well think about it if you do that your rssi will be calculated based on 1 dbi but since you're using a 10 dbi antenna your actual rssi will be a lot higher which means you have a lot of invalid witnesses so you'll be basically screwing yourself over all right after the actionable items i also want to share some thoughts number one obviously i think poc version 11 will make hacking extremely difficult since now snr is out of formula it was kind of useless anyway and this is one of the factors now and it can be used to triangulate the location of the miner and calculate the true strength of the signal and i think as a result for those people who have their hotspot set up correctly will actually have an increase in rewards because the others will have a lot of invalid witnesses and since there is only a fixed amount of rewards per month when some people lose other people gain so the second thought is the height of the antenna and signal reflections are not considered radio waves will have ground wave and airwave when the signal hits certain surfaces like salt water metal glass it can be redirected or reflected it can even be amplified in some situations when it's traveling through the air so how can this be fair when only the ideal situation is considered while calculating signal loss in a free space well the good news is the worst case if there's something wrong with poc version 11 they can always go back to version 10 which is what we are right now it has happened in the past when they decided to implement poc version 9 they actually halted the entire blockchain and then reverted back to poc version 8 and decided to completely skip version 9. so it's good to know if the new poc version doesn't work out we have something to fall back to all right that is everything for today are you ready for this change please vote under the community tab this is moto tech thank you for watching i will see you next time
