Hedgehog Care: Daily Hedgehog Routine

hey everyone so today I wanted to film a hedgehog daily routine for you guys someone asked for just a morning routine and an evening routine separate um but my routine with the hedgehogs is actually pretty straightforward so I figured to just do a full day routine so the very first thing I do when I wake up and it's actually much later now I've already done this for the day but the very first thing I do is check their cage temperatures and I generally do that through the cage as you can see it's 76 and 76 I then come in the cages and just very briefly check on the hedgehogs make sure all is well of course I've already done this today so I'm not gonna irritate them too much but what I typically do is a very very brief health check uhh Blaise has moved, there he is, he's in there um but I'll do a very very brief health check where I just glance over their feet and make sure everything is in tip-top shape nobody has attempted hibernation that sort of thing and um from there I go on and deal with all of the other pets until later in the evening alright so um the order I do things just depends on my mood and today I think I'm gonna go ahead and spot cleaning first because Draco's wheel specifically is pretty grimy so I'm going to take that to be cleaned and I'm gonna clean out the litter tray and I'm going to do blazes too and vacuum if I need to or whatever all right so I have spot cleaned and it's a few hours later it's now almost 5:00 p.m. and I've taken the cuddle cup off of Draco because I'm gonna take him out to hang out for a little bit come on hi. hi good morning. you wanna say hi? the camera is above you. say hello to everyone yeah nice there you go yeah as you can see it only takes him a minute or two to calm down he's really uh he's really not so bad he doesn't like to be woken up but once he's up he he does pretty good yeah see I'm doing all right all right so he doesn't really need a foot back but he does need one or two nails clipped um it looks like I missed a couple the last time I clipped them so I'm gonna go ahead and do that I'm not going to do that on camera because as you can see he's pretty fidgety right now and I'm not going to do it in the bath so if you'd like to see how I cut his nails not using the bath method I have a video on that I also have a video on how I do it while they're in the bath if you'd like to check that out I will put them both up in the cards and in the video description Draco did pretty good with his nails so I'm gonna go ahead and give him a reward um he doesn't get mealworms very often I've just got five for him here he is sort of my tubby hog so he doesn't get them very often he actually hasn't had them in a long time so we'll see if he eats them or not he usually gets eggs but I have no worms on hand more often now because of Finn so (dog barks) ope, Bear Still got one left. are you gonna get the last one or do I need to put them back there you go YUM that's it oh you're gonna lick the bowl clean? they're all gone so Draco and I are just gonna go watch probably some YouTube videos while we hang out because I've got some spare time today on days that I don't have spare time he will go in a snuggle sack or a carrying bag while I run errands or deal with the other pets or whatever it is that I have to do that day but today since it's a Friday it's pretty it's a pretty chill day so as you can see blaise doesn't take very long to come around either he's a little more skittish than Draco so in general movements and loud noises kind of make him a little huffy um but he comes out of his ball pretty quickly too and I already checked his nails and stuff so he's looking good um I was gonna offer him some mealworms but he doesn't actually like them so uh we're just gonna go hang out and watch some YouTube videos take some pictures for Instagram maybe once he chills out a little bit he's oh you're okay honey all right it's not so bad hmm hi yeah there you go quills are down hi people don't get to see you very often you see no he's like I gotta go I gotta go I gotta get out of here now you were gonna fall asleep for everyone nope, I'm gonna run away for everyone that's what I'm gonna do time to get up? all right so he's ready to go go go uh-huh but I'm actually going to be popping him in this cage now uh because it's getting late and he's been out for about an hour and I have to hang out with everybody else now so he's like let me go I want to explore lady so I'm gonna just wipe him down with some baby wipes as you saw he anointed a fair bit we've got some nosy puppies and kitties here um but I'm gonna go ahead and wipe him down he anointed a fair bit uh so I'm just gonna get a little bit of the excess off you cane give them a bath after that but he anoints so often that there's not much of a point in giving him a bath every time he does it so I'm gonna go ahead and do that I'm gonna do that off camera because as you saw earlier he's a runner so he will bolt the second I put him down and I need two hands uh I thought about setting up the tripod but it's just easier for me to go ahead and do this off camera alright guys so it's quite a bit later now um it's still technically earlier than when I would normally do this because we're about to lose the Sun it's about 8 p.m. now and I typically will refill water and food around 10:00 because their lights go out at 10:30 but I'm gonna go ahead and do it now um I cleaned and refilled their bowls their water bowls before I started filming and I'm gonna go ahead and try my best to refill their food if you guys saw my Q&A you'll know that um one of Nox's, my cat if you can see him here, uh-huh one of his favorite treats is actually the Hedgehog's cat food I'm not sure why because he has his own but he does actually try and steal it so I have to be um kind of quick and refill everything fairly quickly I didn't wash their bowls this time around I usually wash them as needed and these just mostly have crumbs in them so I haven't really worried about it and that's it for the for the evening really the hedgehog routine is really simple there's nothing overly complicated about it and it does change depending on what I'm doing during the day um that's the general gist of things so I hope you guys enjoyed um thanks for watching and until next time bye guys
