well can a healthy soul lead to a healthy body and how can we sustain better habits today with the help of our special guest will find answers to these questions and more but first joining me around the table is Kendrick led how are you I am good I like this topic anything I always need more information and how to apply it it's good cuz you never know what might surprise you that you realize you thought you were doing something right yet Nene you were wrong Nene was the teacher in these two must see them how are you that was really weird I'll say hi how's everything at Kings University I things are good yes you've only got a few months and you'll be graduating yes oh my goodness I did on that yes but I love school so much so it's like a mixed feeling yes yes anywhere now how are you I'm great thank you always good to have you here at the table my friend for over 30 years we became friends when we were 2 years old yes usually plays a pin together uni Johnson welcome to the table thank you it's good to be with you guys these are they fun yeah well in today's fast-paced world it's easy to forget about one of our most important assets our health 12 years ago Vinnie Johnson found herself battling poor health until the Lord told her to get into shape today she is one of the senior pastors of Bethel Church an author of a new book entitled healthy and free I like the free party yeah I know it's nice that's an important party do you think that's one of the things that kind of sets it apart cuz you've got a lot of general good nutrition in here that we know but you also talked about the spiritual aspects yes yeah and that's really what I wanted to bring out in the book that we need to be healthy but we need to be free in our bodies soul and our spirit that all works together because we're at crying beans so yeah that's I think what makes the book unique so tell us you a little bit about your journey and how this book came into fruition usually there is a story behind a book like this yes yes about 12 years ago I went to the doctor and the doctor said you have hypertension which is high blood pressure and I was a little bit overweight and she said you're gonna have to do something about this high blood pressure because she knew my family history my family has that problem and I said yes I know thank you and I left and I went home and I said I can't do medication I'm not against medication per se but for me personally I just did not want to go that route and if there was any way that I could heal my body naturally I was going to find out what it was and so I started on this journey well shortly after that I woke up one morning and I felt like the Lord said I want you well for the long haul and I went okay and I remember walking into my kitchen and standing there and saying okay Holy Spirit you told me this is what you want me to do so now what do i do first so it started me on this journey to wellness and everybody watching said and what did he tell you well he told me to get off of white sugar which I loved sugar I was a sugar addict I can clean out a pound of chocolate in an afternoon you know just you know that nice little box of chocolate and just feel horrible the next day so I went oh my goodness this is gonna be the hardest thing so it took me about 2 months and to get off and you know it is there there are like withdrawals because yeah yeah we know what a sugar oh yeah headache yes yes and so I did it because I knew that I had to be obedient to that call and I found other things that I could use I like sweet yes so I was using you know I learned how to use raw honey coconut sugar sugars that are low glycemic root sugars date you know things like that yeah but again in moderation right so I just learned how to do stevia yes yes I use stevia and I use a good brand of stevia you have to be careful because it is processed some yeah so anyway that's that's what I found and and you know I still bake and make all the fun desserts I make my apple pies with date sugar or coconut sugar and my husband just absolutely loves it yeah so I did that that was the first step and I felt so good after it was all said and done so the natural sugars like the date sugar and coconut you have a different feeling when you're eating the sweets then when you had this yeah I'd definitely you don't have the crash okay you know you know how you get that sugar crash there yeah and refined sugar is they bleach it yeah and what's wrong with bleach and food you don't put those two together and so they bleach kills everything you're pretty much eating nothing when you get sugar but just a whole bunch of empty calories is what it is and the same with refined salt anything and sugar I know suppresses your immune system yeah Amelia's age yeah it just it strips of B vitamins out of your body Wow there's all kinds of stuff so okay so I know you probably have a question because I've heard you walk in the kitchen before and go okay holy sphere so you could totally relate to that right oh yeah just seeking wisdom and I was gonna ask you so I feel like our food system is really messed up here it's really hard to eat healthy to be intentional because there's so many problems and then I think the other thing that a lot of people struggle with is there's so much information out there about don't eat this don't eat that then it gets overwhelming I think people just throw up their hands you're like okay and I always heard different people cut out different foods so is there anything besides refined sugar that you said I'm not gonna eat this well I then began to experiment even more and realize that in the society that we live in now especially in America so many people are gluten intolerance or gluten sensitive and I decided I'm gonna go on a 60-day fast against all gluten and I pretty much not gone back and you know people are like why is that a problem nowadays when it wasn't a problem years ago well the problem is is that the way they're processing our food and they're actually adding 100 to 200 percent more gluten into our foods just to make them pretty poor sell like you can go into a bread store I went into a bread store one day just to see if there were any breads for sale they had no sugar every bed had sugar in it and high-fructose you know corn syrup too as well and not to mention that it's GMO anything if it doesn't say GMO then most likely it's geo mode and I know that when doctor Cobra was here he said they have crossbred wheat in so many different times yes it used to you know grow tall do you talk and would roll you know with it with the wind but now it's like a short and stubby and the insects won't even eat it exactly because it's so bad and it's not the way God intended for us to eat wheat and we live on the eye-fi quarter of california and you can travel all the way in Mexico all the way up into Canada and where we live on that IFI stretch is all agricultural so I've noticed over the years and it just hit me just a few months ago oh that's why that looks different the corn corn is corn is one of the worst that's GMO and I don't even touch corn I don't trust it I don't touch it because it's not really corn and I noticed that the plants look different than they used to they're not there they look different and that's because they've been GMO and how did they look different where they shorter that be there no they're actually bushier okay instead of a nice yeah instead of a long stock or bushier and they just looked they just look different they don't there's still you could tell their corn but yeah they're just like that's not how corn used to look so you've talked a lot about like the physical parts so what about the soul in the spiritual part yeah which is so intricate and one of the things that I noticed in the church was well because we travel all over pray for the sick that we were good at getting help with the spirit and the soul okay the spirit and your mind but we were neglecting the physical part but I realized that when you start putting those three things together that you're going to walk in some really good defined health and having your mind people need to stop abusing themselves themselves by saying bad things about themselves by believing lies at the end is telling us and we need to start loving ourselves and giving ourselves permission to love ourselves because it's really okay the Bible says we're supposed to love ourselves and we can't efficiently love others unless we do so so that soul part is changing the way we think changing our minds about us who we are how does God see us and start treating ourselves as such and then the spirit connection is that spirit connection with the Holy Spirit that is survival I mean its beauty it's a beautiful thing but I will not live I mean if I don't stay in that spirit connection with the Holy Spirit communion with him I'm on a duck down here he'll spiral and it's just within a couple of days you know it's just yeah so I have to really watch that and those three things come together and you've got a person that is really healthy one of the things she said earlier was that you should look in the mirror every day like a little girl commercial with this curly hair like I am beautiful I mean because that's the way God sees this yes and Becca your generation especially has a huge identity crisis we're talking about girls in their 20s getting plastic surgery getting their lips pumped everything I mean change nose job you know it's just as crazy isn't it it is and one of the things I've noticed is that we have all these platforms now where we can get people's approval we can like post photos of ourselves and they're like always we can get basically a lot more attention these days what I've learned even with myself personally is that when you go to another person trying to get their approval it's not really fulfilling yeah it's only when God really when you receive his love fruit you know and you accept that that you can actually rest and you actually feel fulfilled but if you're trying to get it in people it's exhausting yeah and you'll go to like the craziest lengths to keep it going and it's not worth it because it all starts in your mind and in your heart it doesn't matter people say but speaking of rest sleep is a very important part to Mendez she's got a new baby it does play a big role there and you need to get rest whenever you can yeah like I used to neglect my house work because I was desperately in need of it now yeah you need to preach a little bit over here to this point because she is a very much a shape or in control everything in a work and I did the same thing and I said if I could change something I would have just let all that go and play with the kids more yeah and I think that's important yeah I mean you'll always have housework you're not gonna always have your kids right and when your kids are down for naps from their babies you need to take a nap yeah it's just important we the dishes for a little bit exactly yeah sleep helps you if you need to lose weight it helps you it rebalances your hormones your cells die off as you sleep and you create new ones you and you know how you feel when you get into good night's sleep you feel fantastic oh yeah well that is the part like what you said the rest I mean in exercise you said now that was something that you had to start doing yeah in Miami in my book I talk about these tools and stuff but exercises the major one and that's what I started doing I started walking to correct my blood pressure and that's a great way sure type 2 diabetes they're finding that exercise walking especially is one of the best things you can do so what happened with some of your health issues when you adjusted everything they're they're fine and how long did it take to do that without medication I'll tell you this when I started working out in the gym I had been walking but when I started working out in the gym and doing weight training that's when I really started seeing some good changes yeah makes a big difference so building muscle know that you talk about that as well well don't touch that doll when we come back we'll discover the whole truth about living a healthy and free lifestyle stay with us [Music] wellness and we're going to play the whole truth game and nothing but the truth yes and all the ladies nothing tables they have a true-and-false see everybody yeah there's Fox there's true there it is boom I'm gonna read the questions I'm gonna put my trusty glasses on here and are you all ready to play ready Benny are you ready to ready for this I'm ready okay here we go artificial sweeteners are a healthy alternative to sugar true or false Kendra okay Kendra says false Becca says false Joni says fall and Cindy says false singing we win the prize and so what about Splenda and all these artificial sweeteners you know I went into my massage therapist one day and I said I have my joints are so achy and she said do you use Splenda and I went yes but it was like the last thing before I switched everything off she said stop using it because what happens is it's it it it is a base of sugar but they put other stuff in it and when it goes into your system you don't it doesn't know what to do with it right yeah it'll Lodge and you model joints so is it true because I remember mean this one article about artificial sweetener it actually helps you put on weight yeah like it makes you fatter the diet sodas can say diet because they put less in it but really the chemicals that they put in there are actually fighting and you will gain more weight with diet so that's why they're called die so done all right people to start with you Cindy first our bodies are made up of 50 to 75% of water I know it's way up there I think it's more we sell me a 30-minute programs okay I'm gonna say truth what are you gonna say I'll say truth I'm gonna say false I think it's your water okay consuming pure salt is good for your health I'm gonna say sure okay like like I'm decide pink on and the sea salt pure true yes the best salt you can use is a gray colored salt it's better than the pink Himalayan is good but the colored grey salt is the best and the heart doctors now are starting to give it to their heart patients because what happens is the grey salts the pink salts have trace minerals in them where they refine that out of the white table salt and you don't get in trace minerals and many of us are deficient in trace minerals so it's good greater good salt yeah okay Kendra I'm gonna start with you on this one right let me explain to you because you may not know if this is rounding is when you walk barefoot in the grass okay the sand so grounding is a great way to detox your body true or false Becca I say truth is nature yep love groundings see my favorite thing I love it you knew I would be barefoot you can't have your nails Oh and how many of you go to the beach and you walk on the sand and your feet in the water don't you feel wonderful yes well that was just a feel I mean we feel wonderful but that's actually doing something to your body the ground is full of electrons and we are made from the ground so we are we have electrons but because of toxins in the world it depletes that electrons stuff in us and so when we walk on the ground you can even walk on cement that works to man cement as dirt and sand and if it's wet it's better and that will replenish the electrons in your body it's athletes are doing this now it's a really popular thing to do and it really helps and I was in the Napa earthquake a couple years ago it was terrifying and my cortisol levels just went off the chart I went home and took a blood test my doctor said you're a mess so I started grounding every day for two weeks about 20 minutes a day I took a walk barefoot and after after two weeks I just went oh I can feel the change in my body so it's a real deal okay that's great right that's good for you to know also the same effect is walking on the beach yes isn't it on the beach you're lucky and blessed is detox and that's why okay we'll start with you Kendra the human body can survive 10 days without water you feel thirsty right now you're in dehydration mode and it starts tearing your cells down and does all kinds of damage so you've got it just heat and the best way to do that is just have your water bottle with so had an important news water and tell us about what kind of water yes yes like tap waters no no what half water is not the way to go but she goes V Illinois Michigan look at that oh I know is terrible but I realized that not everybody can afford a really expensive you know or even going out and buying lots of bottled water and that's another thing you have to be careful what your bottled water comes from you want to look at the bottle and says if it's if they bottle it from the source then you're you're doing pretty good but but if you can't afford them a machine the best way to do it and the first thing you should do in the morning is get up warm some water not hot but warm put some lemon either oil essential oil or lemon juice in it and drink it that alkalizes the water if you can get you a handheld purifier pitcher fill that out to put it in the fridge or whatever you need to do but really if you get the alkalized water you're going to be blessing your body because because we live in a world that's that we eat so much acidic food which is dead food basically it's been cooked our bodies get very acidic and we need to have a pH balance I think it's seven point two or 7.0 something like that and that's how we get it through alkalized water or alkalis foods their own foods that are alkalizing - i know ii was it you that tested bottled water did and then discovers there were so many that were acidic some and i did a high but about eight different bottled some insulin they had yes i'm even had salt in the water it's crazy yeah but do you do they have little testers you can go to the store and just put it in your bottled water just little sample and I'll show you how much ass acidic and so what I named one that was good the NAD was good okay I'm gonna start with you Cindy there are three stages of sleep that your body should go through each night true or false true I'm gonna say false it's true four stages of sleep that we should go through and we should do it we should do it a few times in a cycle oh and one more this shows inspired me to get more sleep that's why it's important for adults to get seven and a half to eight hours sleep every night and the best time is from 10:00 to 6:00 like yeah right I know but that's an uninterrupted leave is it okay to take melatonin every night aye that's a good question I only take it when I'm traveling or if I if I have a feeling that I am NOT gonna be sleep very good because there's a lot on my mind or something I will take it but I don't make it a habit to take it all the time because your body will get used to taking that and it won't create its own now let me give you a little tip here it's free get up first thing in the morning go sit outside with your face in the Sun no sunscreen if you can take your your sleeveless expose your legs your limbs to 20 minutes of sunshine that's going to create in you a natural melatonin that your body is going to deplete it from because of toxins oh when that will help you sleep that night that's super cool coming down she does live in California yes all right we kind of already answered this one so I think everybody knows dieting is the long-term effective way to lose weight we all say because we've all tried it yeah and then you go off it yeah you just comes the weight comes well yeah because and you're thinking okay I'm gonna be in a diet for this short amount of time and then when I'm finished yeah yeah it does just no finish okay we'll start we can do this time your skin is the largest organ in your body yes yes true it is and so we need to protect that dry brush get a dry brush and dry brush before you get into your bathtub or shower and you do it towards your heart isn't calling for your adrenals yes yeah or your lymphatics yeah and I have an organic scrub salt scrub that I use it's beautiful my skin just feels a wonderful afterwards so yeah your skin is a beautiful piece of your body that you need to take care of okay Rebecca working out on a treadmill or elliptical machine is best for cardio exercise it's like is it a trick question I was gonna say it's the best it's good but I mean it's probably great to be oh yeah it's false [Laughter] to be outside yeah you know and whether if you like to CrossFit I personally don't CrossFit I think too many people get injured that way but I have a lot of friends that love it it's pretty much finding out what you like but the point is is that we need to do something like Park in the parking lot away from exactly yeah it just helps with your stress I think yes yes it's getting good day okay last question Cindy the easiest way to clean up your diet is by eliminating all processed foods true or false coming true I'm gonna say true true baby okay true in process we name them real quick we anything in a box yeah if it does if it says if it says organic you're okay it still process a little bit it's organically but as fresh as possible and they tell you that when you go in the store to shop on they around the outer edge the outer edges because that's where you get a really good that's alive yeah and for women who are wanting to reset their hormones eating a pound of vegetables a day is perfect can we drink them or do they have if they're blended if not chisel in with you get the fiber get the fiber and we need fiber all right well I cannot believe it but we are out of time today I want to thank Vinnie Johnson for
