[Music] it's game on presented by spectrum sports and a very pleasant good evening from the Stan Sheriff Center in the Montello where this evening is the championship match of the Outrigger Invitational at the second ranked Rainbow Warriors host the sixth great waves of Pepperdine and this is game on presented by spectrum Sports for Rainbow Warrior volleyball [Music] hi everybody glad you could join us for this saturday night showdown Hawaii em Pepperdine I'm Scott Rob's Lisa strand ma and Ryan clay suji who is taking care of business so far this weekend including last night straight set victory over number 15 ball faith as we take a look at the box for from an evening ago and of course away again [Music] it's become a scary norm this team has just been staggering with their numbers especially in their offense in their kill percentage and really they set an incredible bar for themselves yeah taking a look again a pending percentage all those six service areas actually the blocks Hawaii had eight last night and also continuing that need to be impressive with their efficiency overall [Music] alright time now to wrap those engines it's time for the peak performer brought to you by Bank of Hawaii and ladies go first so Lisa let me ask you who is your peak performer from a night ago well I'm gonna have to go with Jo Worsley the quarterback of the team Joe Montana Worsley always bettering the ball finding players going opposite each it never ceases to amaze me then he shouldn't get with his hands he blocks balls he doesn't for being so understanding his leadership he's continued to leave this team and everybody has bought into him being the leader and running a pretty darn smooth and I yours my impact player is the reigning AVC a and Big West Player of the Week righto para una continue to put up staggering numbers for this outrigger tournament righto with damaging five kills hitting 568 we'll see he may be also putting up another contention for yet another national player but we performance of backs back performance with the numbers that he's putting on you see his numbers this season but really has become the go-to player he had 10 kills in just that first set alone last night and really proving to be a dominant player on that right side alright so both these teams have gone through the competition let's take a look at the standings that they see white pepper and I'm both to know Hawaii defeating King on Thursday in straight sets and then defeating ball stayed in three last tie Pepperdine by the way beat both those teams in three as well so you look at the way the tournament has gone and it's gone according to plan definitely according to plan and this is a true championship of the tournament both teams going three sets against both the opponents and really I think excited about tonight in the faceoff that they're gonna have and you know this is a very important match for Hawaii not only to continue on in their momentum and their win column but also for the overall looking at the standings and where these two teams may be coming down the line we saw what happened last year with Hawaii when they did not get the automatic bid because they did not win the Big West Conference championship the the NCAA will then look at their other performances against other teams in other conferences like a Pepperdine for Hawaii so they're gonna have to be able to show a body of work where they can compete and play against ranked teams in other conferences like the MPSF one of the things that we need to remember is that last year when Hawaii traveled to Pepperdine they actually lost to them twice and this really was very fatal to their NCAA bid well Ryan you mentioned the Big West Hawaii will return the conference action next weekend here at home against CSUN but let's get an idea how the landscape is shaping out in the Big West Conference to this point of course Hawaii and Long Beach State number one and number two in the country those Tiki unbe by UC Santa Barbara their fourth in the country UC Irvine their third in the country the top four teams in the country are in the Big West Conference CSUN at 1/2 and UCSD they have the tough task of playing in the Big West okay they lost all four of their matches to this point so you look at the way the big us conference has shaped up the fun thing about this league is that every single team in the big with' has at least one representative from the 50th state well that's pretty amazing and it just goes to show you the quality of volleyball that comes out of the state of wife being the 50th state a smaller state that these player is all going out and contributing not only Big West but all over the United States of America as well as the mountain Sports Federation as well so a lot of players contributing to men's volleyball yeah I'm great to see those local players having that impact beyond just Hawaii we know head coach Tyler Wade wants to keep a lot of those local players here summing them choosing to go to the mainland to receive their education but definitely Hawaii becoming and has always been really a hotbed of great local talent I still think it's amazing that you have a six team league like the Big West and your top four teams in the league other top four teams considered by the coaches in the entire volleyball world yeah the Big West Conference championship that's gonna be here in Honolulu could be potentially like a Final Four because the top four teams are going to be competing for just the Big West common championship I think you better buy your tickets now I think it could easily be like a national championship well tonight's gonna be another tough task for Hawaii Pepperdine always an outstanding program they'll bring it to Hawaii for sure and calling the action they'll be cuddling Chris guys thanks a lot Scott yeah courtside with Chris McLaughlin I'm Kanoa Leahey to that end what the corner crew was talking about with regards to the Big West Conference tournament down the road here at the Stan Sheriff Center it could for all intents and purposes actually represent a tournament that is better than the Final Four because you're talking about if you know we if we project forward to those four teams being still ranked in the top five two of them won't be making it to the NCAA tournament so I mean you could make that argument I totally agree go buy your tickets now folks like Pete Lisa to the punch that's right so that public service announcement is not taking care of let's talk about the matchup here tonight for Hawaii its Pepperdine and you were saying throughout the broadcast last night in looking forward to this now true outrigger Invitational championship Pepperdine will probably be the most physical team arguably and certainly the best serving team that Hawaii has faced this season correctly facing great young coach and David hunt right there he's though Marv Dunphy's the legendary war abductees protege and a successor to Marv's long tenure there but yeah pepero night is just that they're always so big you know in a great blocking of the net they just present all kinds of problems at the net now the presenting problems from behind the service line and a really good serving team although david hunt first thing you said to us was I'm not happy about those seventeen missed serves last night so I think they'll keep more of their serves in probably and they're willing to put a lot of pressure on Hawaii's passers for sure and to that end if Hawaii is to sort of if they're to respond well to that it seems as though they are set up because they face incredible serving everyday in the practice gym because they are one of the best serving teams in the country that's a good point because you take guys in the base start playing right now come in guys like rosenmeier he's got an incredible serve and he's barely sniffing the floor right now but he is serving against that a side every day and giving them all kinds of problems there's Bret just a great player what a great attitude great kid he's just you know he's not getting his playing time that he wants but he also knows that he will be ready should anything happen he's gonna be johnny-on-the-spot he'll come for you and you'll be clutch and you will help Hawaii down the road when it counts most now the difference between these two teams stylistically philosophically Hawaii you know they're just continually tweaking and they're trying new things they're trying new bright and shiny toys and different weapons in the arsenal whereas Pepperdine you know kind of like one of those old school football teams right they just hand the ball up the middle three yards in a cloud of dust they are so physical they don't do a lot of the sleight-of-hand stuff they are right at you that's right even David Hunt you got I think their head coach a bit of that he says you know something we're not gonna fool a whole lot of people tonight especially Hawaii's middle blocker they know what they're gonna get our centers not real deceptive and it's okay where is gonna keep coming at you on the other hand Hawaii sleight of hand every time Joe Worsley touches the ball now if there is perhaps a caveat that would concern Pepperdine the fact that when they have been most vulnerable it has been in true road games for losses on the season all of them coming in Road situations yeah they have not fared well on the road clearly Firestone is a great place to play for them you know they've got things hanging from the ceiling the bit oh yeah the players all know how the ball is going to bounce off those those rafters and so they're very very good at home but on the road as you said they have struggled and it'll be interesting to see how they'll play here on the Stan Sheriff Center because I'm not sure any of these players have been in this place but maybe once couple years ago that's right a couple of years ago for several members of the Pepperdine waves so difference in philosophy perhaps approach but two really really high quality volleyball teams about to do battle here in a true championship in the outrigger Invitational will see you at first serve listen to back over to the corner crew all right thanks a lot guys when we come back we're gonna hear from Morocco carpooling off but a reminder connect with spectrum sports by liking our fanpage on Facebook Instagram our via twitter at spec sports high or hash tag hawaii m BB it's a big one in Manoa tonight number two avoid see number six member nine in the championship match of the Outrigger invitational Ronald Thompson off a big key for the Warriors here in 2019 putting up National Player of the Year numbers four point two one kills percent hitting five 2219 server saz's but the biggest thing Ronald in was in the offseason when he dropped some lbs and now that has helped him drop some bombs from the pins I said that with my dad and I was like okay being two years to haven't accomplished anything I was up and down my sophomore year I didn't play my freshman year and I'm here only for for stuff like I'm here for 20 years hey my dad's like okay like he told me her little bit fat so I kind of lost weight okay that's bad but chill being slow so I need to work on that he was for lack of a better word maybe a little doughy when he first got here and he certainly worked in his overall level of fitness for sure they run it faster jumping higher hitting harder I think I'm more relaxed already play the season so I know how it feels to be on the court and all who are my weight on the core what kind of player on the other side different situation I've been through so they're more relaxed I kind of have I kind of what is gonna happen the serious situation not everyone I'm not there yet I'm not like another sign I can defensively I'm much better maybe I'm as good as gage maybe I'm better what else gets more digs in me that's it but uh joking aside I think defense they've gotten better I get more blocks I get a few digs not as much as the rest but feel something it's just a number of hours and number of repetitions that he's logged outside of practice you know we're limited to 20 hours and the reality is to be good and to be the best you have to you know double or triple that amount of time spent improving he is what I would say better myelinated you know his this is how we establish and enhanced motor skills but you know then the amount of time that he has spent performing each and every little part of the game whether it's just been spinning and snapping balls and his jump serve and and his blocking his defense every part of this game is improved and you know he got himself in the best shape of his life and his work Gardens like I said he is better myelinated he is he's a better volleyball today for it pick a number brought to you by First Hawaiian Bank we're not going to talk about Rondo's offensive numbers because they're PlayStation like let's talk about his defense I want you to give me the combined number of blocks and digs Verado in tonight's match keep in mind he's averaging about two percent okay so two percent and I went with five for the entire match and looked at the last few stats in the last two games and I came up with the number five not only because it's my favorite number but because that's what how I think he's gonna do tonight Diggs and Lawson combined and the pressures on Ryan today because you won last night so Ryan give us a correct number so the correct number is gonna be seven I think that bada will have a little bit more blocks tonight going up against in offense like Pepperdine I think he's gonna be able to get a lot of touches on the block but I also think that he's also going to be able to score points that way so I'm gonna go with seven and we'll see what happens I you know I remember when Raul was coming to you age so much was made of him but he came as freshman year and he was behind Stein cuz Stein was the opposite and he mentioned last year was his first full year as a starter and he did kind of have an up and down year but this year man oh man has he been unreal I think he's basically metamorphosized himself he's bought into the program he trusts it he's really completely committed he was on the postgame show last night and shared that he went to the mainland this summer and trained with the words Lee's and really just bought completely into being the best that he could possibly be and it's showing you know you look at the history of Hawaii hitters I mean names like in the 90s we had you've all cots and in the early 2000s we had kosis Theory DS 2010 we had unis own laugh and now this player Rado para Puna is sort of itching himself with some of the all-time great hitters in you H issue because of the type of numbers that he's putting up this year and those names I mean are some pretty big names that you just don't necessarily throw out there but the type of play that Rado is having this season certainly is deserving of being mentioned in the same breath as those others absolutely and he's only a junior so we should see him again here next year we're gonna take a timeout when we come back we'll talk about the match of Hawaii ember time big time matchup here in the mundo of Hawaii and pepper died there you see some of the fans getting ready getting excited and having a good time here at the sheriff center let's take a look now at the staff leaders for the University of Hawaii Lisa well again we go back to Steinberg Coburg Colton Cal and Joe Worsley but I think almost every warrior can be on the staff leaders with the numbers that they have been putting up but tonight these three are bad Brian for the waves you know the Pepperdine way stuff of course a very talented squad led by David Weiss Oregon the outside he won't look at looking at his kills per set a lot being asked of him as well as some of the other players Denmark as well as white sir all these players I think will have to have big nights they're gonna need their guns to come out tonight we look at the side-by-side comparison Hawaii clearly in front in terms of the blocks as well as that hitting percentage but I think the biggest challenge will be come from the service line look at that service is 108 service eases for Pepperdine but their errors also at 261 a lofty number four errors that is a lot it should be fun it all is is how I look the avenge last year's loss to three of us we'll be back at intermission but corrupt next good on Chris with the call well the Stan Sheriff Center is buzzing let's get right to it Kanoa Leahey Chris McLaughlin the kaiser permanente keys to the match cement for Pepperdine they got a slowdown righto Ronald's been a terrible that you see I in this tournament he by himself if left unchecked can change a natural for us they're going to pass the tidal waves that's successful first contacts strongest asset there sir so Chuck from Montana Worsley yes that's right ten run is entertaining that efficient offense there's your keys and he is back behind the line to serve as righto Potter pruned off strikes first little set goes to max Chamberlain the rockers righto again two blockers up and he gets stuffed Chamberlain needs to Michael Webster in a rare denial of Ronald Platt upon I'd the Hawaiian financial nemesis starting lineups scrolling at the bottom of your screen the waves come in at 13 and 4 on the year they have already played six MPSF matches their foreign to in that league but all four of their losses this season have come on the road they are five and four in troll Road contests ranked 6th in the latest AVC a polled quick middle set goes to Pat Gassman quick learn about defending that particular set everybody's got to got that wired they knew that balls going to go to gasping even if Joel gets a bad set off the net so they put somebody on gasping they light up right on him and still can't stop Vaughn Tilburg witness serve and there is the point to Pepperdine as caleb denmark who has had himself a very strong tournament senior from Redlands California 12 kills last night against King University 11 kills the opening night against Ball State just one error for the tournament so far he's been placed in solid volleyball URIs the CIF Player of the Year Division five hitting the USA junior national beach team so he's a good all-around player where's Lee goes high and away and Colton call off the block kept alive by Denmark but nobody had his back and a freebie gifted to Hawaii they're up three to Hawaii got lucky their miscommunication on Pepperdine side rants will have to happen in midseason by the way early in the area see miscommunication but not midseason David Hunt in his second year at the helm of this esteemed volleyball program great serve thereby gassmann Zorich we will be calling that name most certainly a multitude of times tonight 6-8 senior from Chicago team leader with 3.7 kills % he gets a lot of sass first night he had 14 kills he had 37 of him he had 14 kills against on USC last week before coming to Hawaii on 237 Suites you look at a lot of swings a lot of attempts will David wiser so Joe Worsley trying to go a little bit more ad-lib style out to Powell he missed the floor wide so Pepperdine in front for serving three David blast caesars that was 65 miles an hour Cowell then just into no-man's land the wave side of the net Colton Palin 2.5 kills per set he's hitting 476 on the season last night very efficient 5 kills 4 blocks against Ball State he's had some cutting here 6 worn outside touches like 11 6 though plays like he's 6 8 or 6 times rattle Pantaloon off gets him out of system and in fact logs in ace righto the reigning AVC a national player of the week he hit 463 with 526 kills per set in the two wins on the road against UCI last night 19 put-downs hit 571 in the sweet victory over Ball State the bullet serve outside adjusting the jump as Denmark tried to go down the line but he's able to behind the floor I think he got both wires the sideline and the end line perfectly placed that was a low percentage position on that swing and he was still able to make it work so credit to Caleb Denmark he's not back to serve tight early here in the opening frame five serving five and he returns from Caleb Denmark Worsley passed tight to the net and so Joe just sort of breezes it there on the Quakers adults and so Greg 5:45 on the year look like Joel's gonna go up and attack that ball or turn it over to hands that like you sometimes says instead wise choice to set Dogma so unpredictable Joe Worsley he will mix it up and he will twist you go out sideways ORAC dug up by James Worsley good second cut by Sol Gregg and it's return set goes outside it's why Zurich again he is a load second among MPSF hitters and kills processes potentials MPSF the Player of the Year last year where's the first player gage did touch the ball when Zurich you know like you said he's a handful at 50 two-time all-american 30 service aces on the year he's the team Levine Vaz with the servant the great one and you've all know Charlie Wade also summoned that name in talking about righto prior to tonight's match and there is no higher compliment that can be given to a player in this program then comparing someone to the great you ball Conn says thoughts and Solebury goes into the twine on the net back in 96 when he was playing his second year here they finished second in the country he literally by himself filled up this arena night after night yeah that team a newbie leading the charge was a phenomenon my ball goes to Stein against three blockers and Hawaii gets the point odds in favor of the defense that our food walkers and get support attacker Worsley again picking up the kick nice bump set by Powell and Stein doing the rest as only Stein can do already three digs for gage Worsley outside off the net set goes to Michael Wexler so advantage Hawaii here where's it goes back roll [Applause] we're starting to bring pretty get this offense going there blanke picked up get three guys up he got two and a half guys up that time Howell made him pay 19 serving seven here comes from Joel outside it's wexter again against the double block and he actually got the fingertips of that block in down this the biggest block away is to offer give you a nice job of hitting the high hands they're hit hard thanks shot rushed on to Brian ivy watch list next are also just one hitting error for the tournament 12 kids at 5:50 in the opener of the Outrigger invitational against Ball State has he's got two kills on three swings how important is heating that's almost like going home for those of the right side there it's like going home to de-stress me here that's all he played was on the right side so he gets the back set the words that he's just look at his chops on the length of it and he is right side answer question directly very important to you especially as soon as he does with his passing that's Denmark diving savegames Worsley [Applause] as Hawaii goes up three he's pushed through that block 5 another great dig by gage more so this is third spectacular dig here in one set wagons got the 15 yet yeah third spectacular dig fifth dig period already here in the first frame but it finds its way into the seats max Chamberlain putting the hurt on that set and with another senior this is a Pepperdine team that returned for starters plus the Libero from a season ago and says a senior Laden team five out of six old guys and I'm serving 11 era comes from Chamberlain perfect pass by Stein and he's Gasman do they tried to pick on right there it's fine delivered Joe loves accounts manila 610 he reaches high Joe sets him up high very difficult to a defendant Patrick Gass well the way he's playing right now Jakob tella to Surrey that is an area that style worked so hard on in the offseason service receive that has paid some dividends here already this season overpass force by tella backside righto [Applause] [Music] with his third kill of this opening set and I want you in it's a largest lead of set one David hook there which I call timeout now actually took the 15-point mark he's fun to plays you just want to shoot Hawaii get too far ahead where it comes again from the southpaw freshmen tickled to take that time backside equals to Wexler [Applause] just for that one that is a seven-run being put on by the bulls challenge being put up by David hunter he picks that ball was out and you see a replay how that goes how it turns out I thought it was blocked out but we'll see the call was in but yeah David Hunt who says admittedly I'm not good at the whole challenge thing terrible but he decides to pull out the review paddle and he will have Dan hironaka take a look at this one hironaka the official on the floor Ernie hold the referee atop the ladder Malinda rusher Dean to Laura the two line judges David Hut shouldn't be downplaying his abilities whether it be the challenge card or not the guy is work at the USA women's national team for a couple years USA men's volleyball as well here's the replay on the challenge I think we've got ball is head out children Phil yeah you get a good look we hope to see if here's another angle available [Music] [Applause] this one helps is this infinite and that actually looks like it's good nothing else David hunts getting too tight not slowing down this Rainbow Warrior team was playing so well right now we talked about David hunt though in his second season he takes over for a legend Marv dumphy who won four national championships in his long tenure for in separate decades by the way 70s 80s 90s and the arts and David Hunt already a decorated coach himself at the age of 33 how about that where's the Bollywood Frieza right there it's right on the line balls good [Applause] for the bows and it is now a five-point advantage for the Rainbow Warriors what you coming into this match 14 and oh the best start in program history and the thing that just blows your mind they have yet to lose a set they have been on the street to start the year of 42 straight set victories and NCAA record out of the break for the review challenge tella serves it long [Music] so how did you till I have this little run there though torch it overpass on his first year before I got a point so here's wexter he got roof that was just a second hitting error of the tournament but he sends that serve long and Hawaii gets the 15 first for the Rainbow Warriors up a handful here is Rainbow Warrior volleyball on spectrum Sports is sponsored by Bank of Hawaii and Hawaii Honda dealers welcome back to the SSC it's Hawaii by five here after the first media timeout and this opening set number two versus number six an undefeated Rainbow Warrior squad ranks second in the land taking on the Pepperdine waves their former conference foes extending the MPSF great serve out of the timeout forces a free pass Hawaii with the advantage Worsley [Applause] [Music] the boys seen this on film but they were very worried about silver in the middle and they'd forgotten he's got the step out maneuver time out waves welcome back to nice Jack back few close ones most not so much but what was margin of victory in this NCAA record 42 sets three just ten by two to five points the vast majority though by at least six points in the margin of victory as signed on to Berg blasts it at the block and the point are they gonna say that the hit did not get above the net rush charlie ray challenged this one Charlie Wade will challenge it and Ernie hoes didn't call well I guess he's saying it went off the net and out of bounds so let's claim the pretty saying the block did not touch it play exactly [Applause] the cable touched it but not any never dine ends this is Charlie Wade will challenge that and Dan hironaka now hironaka will put on the headset let's take a look here it did get a good chunk of the net but there it clearly looks like it also goes off of caffeine Baz at least from that angle see if this angle tells a greater story you did get a good piece on the top of the tape there benetcam should show right here [Music] again the call on the floor of his point to Pepperdine [Music] very [Music] right alright the headset off and they will say that it went off the block so a point for the Rainbow Warriors based on our angles might do feel like that was the brick disagrees yeah this is 1717 and righto continues to work from behind the service line took a little something off that may have been a nutball that Denmark played he gets the high over the shoulders set and he makes it work anyway [Music] [Applause] really been effective will Lucan shot down the line no Hawaii defenders there prolific attackers for the waves here in this tournament to past thereby gauge Worsley they set up the D set Toronto Potter Poonam he has four kills the waves on one side but it has been a tsunami of offensive explosiveness from rato pas de puno of on the Hawaii side here over the last couple of weeks such a chair and such a group he said he feels his light to feels feisty watch his arm swing [Applause] as wise or ik popped up by gage could taste down there by Colton Cowell has returned Brill sense and guess who okay with Denmark and delivers the point for Pepperdine he's a fit rally for Pepperdine David Hook their coach is telling us before the game you know I hope the rallies are short two acres who is really good at laundry olives yeah he explicitly said we will have the advantage we hope but we need the rallies to be short and quick we're not going to be able to scramble in these militant type of exchanges with Hawaii in the service errors won't help last night against King University they recorded 17 service errors and that's really one of their primary weapons particularly in a matchup like this exactly we've said they have a long talk about it if you had a long talk about with the team don't think we'll see 17 errors tonight - be honest with the serve here's Webster sweep it in from the bathroom [Music] and it's Hawaii up eight gear as they hit the 20-point mark wexter second a team with 3.5 kills per set another senior New Lenox Illinois [Applause] I saw us here by honest ocellatus you try find that sideline was attacking why Zorich but he missed it just wide he returned and gasp no Chavez no Chavez from Charlie Wade that time he called it out himself we have standing right on the right here's Robert Maillet he the setter lady a6 for sophomore amendment beach california was basically a battle between either a freshman center or a sophomore center this year for Pepperdine Brendan Chandler a freshman from Agoura Hills California had the job initially formal a he took over and according to head coach David Hunt Malay he just begun numbers and a more positive and more effective level there's any more hittable balls they're more predictable but you're very hittable the hitters fog here more horrid system going through or just push the adenosine either offens and that's an ace by Derek white soaring he has surpassed a thousand career kills in his career and a hundred career aces in his time at Pepperdine is his 31st face of the year he's the team so you can see why he's second among MPSF players Ian aces the handle there by Gabe's and I tried to go to the back set to sky and the halter his champion contort his body his email vated work there was nothing the best set to Joe and it apologized to the sign oh that was way inside actually Stein moved to speak very well got to the ball snapped it down inside 22 serving 15 Stein now with told kills on 5 swings no errors and here is Brent rosenmeier to Surry tickle the tape they're set those backside it sweats third block out a piece gauge Worsley pops it up backside Dorado it goes up to the shoulder of wexter now a little pitter-patter at the net and that's going to be a Pepperdine point as Denmark was able to just play it off of the Gasman block and into the pin well Caleb Dumas continuing to be very creative with that with his the sense that he's gathering and you could describe what happened there on the west or dig as wet stuff surviving that shot by bono Poonam another service error this time by max tingling Hawaii back up said the surprise what you didn't get knocked over he took a shot in the chest here is gassmann that times has delivered some gas from the service line tried to get cute get down [Music] but I'm going last night was also a milestone win for the rainbows it was the program's 300th victory in the Stan Sheriff Center where's it goes quick middle - so break rattled around and return outside here's Denmark clock goes up over the net and place down good ad-lib there by Robert Malay he and all mts Eskimo pollution and freshman team selection a season ago he's pretty savvy play his bow tie to connect we actually can telephone he didn't blade overreached whatever he say to me rose he pops it straight up in the air here's Kyle [Applause] Boulton with his fifth kill that leads Hawaii attackers and it's a little ball for the Rainbow Warriors in this post rains [Applause] and it is rather deserve fourth in the nation in aces percent almost got another one dug up by gage outside here's cold [Applause] the Rainbow Warriors tape set one convincing the street lives on 25:18 that's now 43 straight set victories for this Hawaii team welcome back let's check out how it works presented by Central Pacific Bank see Matt it's take a look at Joe Worsley here as he's going to be sitting an amazing set the Dalton Sol Brig Norberg looks like she to get right in front of where's Nolan say takes off to the sidelines Pepperdine has two blockers go up on Worsley in the middle where she picks them all out and sets it out the sole bridge who has got no blockers that's what every here hitters trade has no blockers that one of the wrinkles on the side of the Hawaii offense that is pretty unique certainly for the man's game but solid crowd Scott Rob's alluded to in game on that this is what looks like the biggest crowd of the season for Hawaii I would have to concur with that I'd say it's three we have 4,000 it's all about and in March is the rest of March and April I think the crowds will get even bigger as we have teams like number four rape Santa Barbara come to town when we host the Hawaii hosts the Big West Tournament April 18 19 20 yeah I expect I expect when we get really good crowds for that particular term they'll have the best four teams in the country and alluded to earlier it's almost better than the Final Four and think about that way yeah top four teams currently in the AVC a rankings are all in the Big West and so with you project forward to the end of the year and if those teams continue to play at that level yeah I mean you have a tournament that for all intents and purposes could be better to then the final four for the national championship I mean that's the kind of volleyball that will be on this floor and just a little while gassman gets to work here again set number two hawaii took the first frame 25:18 and they hit 667 in the process how about Pepperdine being led by Caleb Denmark hitting five kills hitting 625 on the year the Denmark it's 227 guys weren't there by about sharing the wealth here so on the side of the court that Hawaii is occupying you have Peggy call six kills Stein and Radha Lafleur kills gassman with three and Dalton sole Birgit - so where's this moving it around Zorich with the jump sir perfect past their backside it's Stein against a double block [Applause] [Music] pretty good right now I'm here to start five hills on six wings had a slow early portion of the match last night we would end up finishing with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of 417 so it was still monster match even if he was subpar by his standards earlier about the passing by gauge Worsley as well there's a good dig there by gage one hand style rato against the double block did he get a piece yes he did [Applause] alluded to in a conversation prior to the ban she said you know there have been some sense where I'm scrambling last night he was running full sprint to the opposite side still flipped it back tirado he said last year radha wouldn't be ready to hit those sets this year his feet are so that he is ready he's putting a pounding on was his brother gauge we're engaged his little barrow but he is the alternate center when joe digs the ball he passes it to gauge and gauge does the delivering and he's done a pretty good job I think that for setting from the background max Chamberlain with the serve good pass there by Colton little set Gasman off the block played by gage Worsley Joe goes outside Powell again off the block dug up by Chamberlain Westar will get a crack at it he goes off the block and out Michael Wexler with his third kill good defense on that sequence there by the waves we'll start by lecture but smart play right there Julia fee and Walker [Applause] it'll say Gaskin missed the court wide it was there for the taking but hitting error gives the point to Pepperdine and they're up for three three oberst here by the waves again just to keep you updated if you are tracking or what you now with an NCAA record 43 straight set victories to start the season diving passed by gage Worsley Gasman in the middle of the touch shot is dug up by wexter diving style Worsley scoops that one up by Denmark [Music] [Applause] gets his sixth kill of a match their words they have so many weapons to set to an insistent this time it goes the strange thing it's like two and a half blockers up on him but he also had cow on the left he got rattled behind them yeah Gaskin in the middle its gas been serving second serve out there Hawaii's got six total team service airs at 7 right now pass there by Stein so break connection was on the money that time since feeding it were these sets to the new right now are setting things up to the pills let me tell you as the match goes along those middle blockers got to say oh my statement commit on this middle attacker who's gotten so many sets or do I lean to the outside and pepino of deals an ace out of the deck [Applause] now second ace of the night draws applause not only from the crowd that from his teammates on the bench there talk more about his development of what Joel was alluding to his feet are quicker now he just has a stronger foundation now what has he done to better himself a European look at two things he's gone one is he's worked out more physically and second of all I think his nutrition has been barren she's he's gotten his biggest body fat percentage is probably less than last year give the kill the Colton Cowell he blew the string Hawaii up to [Applause] this challenge channel to show a little bit of diversity in his attacking skills discuss a high up off the planets and music is urato but would say diving past bylaws well done the block is octo [Applause] in the midst of it and a timeout taken by the Pepperdine waves caleb denmark gets denied goes up three welcome back you a japan select your exact seat locations when purchasing individual game tickets at Hawaii athletics calm click on the tickets button to print your tickets avoid the lines by going online how do the timeout give another one Dorado [Applause] has just been on me here [Applause] Mike Trapasso tells a funny story the head coach for the rainbow baseball team his players were working in the weight room here at the Stan Sheriff Center at the same time with the ball the ball players were working out he said he was looking at Robbo pata Pune write a baby all lefty solid base big legs and he was like I wonder if he's ever thrown a baseball but put down there by Denmark he had visions of pot upon of on the mound [Applause] [Music] [Applause] was up the great arm swing for me doc beneficial to us about you that's not an awful idea [Applause] mr. Caleb Denmark has six kills one ear 11 try saying 455 he's got double his Gill production and double his porkers age [Applause] [Music] yup 6:39 hearing set - here it comes from Denmark ends of the fifth service error for Pepperdine there just appears to be so little room for error against this whole entity absolutely right why is the state there's so many weapons they're ready for it they know that the heat is coming and it's still hard to pass perfectly every time and run your office phone system and that was something you talked about in our broadcast last night Hey look Pepperdine will probably be the toughest serving team that Hawaii will face this season yet you think about it as tough a serving team as Hawaii is I mean they see that every day in practice Jim that was a nice put down there by could be and Pepperdine you know they deliver it everyday but I'm not sure they get it back from the other side like you say who's Vaz from Paris France the graduate student transfer from Cal Baptist good scoop up certainly for David Hunt outside its time the date it's saved there by Wexler the tough shot by wise Eric bimbo around what a big day righto wise or at the second time [Applause] so great return to sender and I think that's Hawaii's smallest block that they can put up six six Olbrich six more money of course Lee there's the million as you said some pinball defense going on here's the end of the play the block weighs two littlest little smallest middle blocker and smallish outside Walker putting up the big roof in the manila roofing company signs come out that's right rado bought a boon of laying out all six nine of them for that initial dig has been weinberg into the match for pepra nine six four across from Danville California [Applause] would be Malay he back behind the service line for Pepperdine Malay he from Manhattan Beach comes from that relay he family that is much more associated with USC volar boy's brother Michael played at SC as Otto adds to his kill numbers he now has six foot downs on 18 [Applause] you notice is we've only seen Rada go cross court tonight so far watch bit Brian's block start moving in and this where Otto's gonna go right down where's Lee sends it home HR the way says in the practice Jim rattles hunk nation all kinds of sort of wide fan types of shots he's going wrists away he's going down the line wicked style tough to defend he is still getting better is still rounding his game out that's really the scariest part whereas they goes middle that cafe man he for Hawaii boy [Music] why he's really going to continue to respect this Pepperdine team you know they really have properties I hadn't gotten wise auric going yet he's their big of the two-time all-american MPSF Player of the Year last year he's only so far he's laid up seven cents got a couple kills there's Webster off the block one-hand layout save by Otto it's gassmann in the middle plugs it through the proposed Chamberlain block for another point in the second [Applause] time in time again [Music] welcome back to the Stan Sheriff Center 59 here in set 2 we have a final from the continent the Rainbow Wahine how about this win over CSUN they held on and that victory secures the number 2 seed in the upcoming Big West Conference tournament the Rainbow Warrior meaning also getting a victory on the road against Cal State Fullerton they couldn't improve or worse in their position they're the 4 seed in the Big West Tournament as that one is put down by Ben Weinberg Hawaii up to nothing on Oregon and les Murakami Stadium in the bottom of the court getting back to the Rainbow Wahine basketball win though secures the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament which also secures a double by how huge is that everything that laura beeman squad has been through and endured this season that's an incredible accomplishment by the way looking at the stats from the the first game and a half so far whoever said was a rather powerful knife show this is leading hippo warriors and kills little Colton Kelly that's a la hammer Rainbow Wahine softball stadium part of the Outrigger Spring Fling tournament the rainbow and the trailing 5/3 earlier though they loved the victory against Niagara 3 nothing there's a lot of activity here on the lower campus is a word that the parking structure was whole here this evening it's a good sign there's a Webster with the server for Pepperdine it'll set so bring the dink on handed up in the air by Millay he so the pump set high ball goes to Denmark Stein with the dig he gets to set from the back rope jump in the air by Webster outside it's Denmark again over the double block two-hand save gage back row the Stein dug up over the net gage Worsley will play it Joe surveys the floor goes middle another dig by wexter denmark I stopped walking down in Pepperdine winds along [Applause] enough for David Hunt to give them a standing ovation you know under way his team competed in their rally for sure they deserved the standing ovation he really played well at the bone play kept digging persevering Caleb Denmark with the seven kills that leads Pepperdine he's also hitting 429 [Applause] he's literally a 227 hitter so it'll be double his production percentage of his his number of kills the waves championship match of the Outrigger invitation dem are coming off the leaks don't getting the Defensive Player of the Week award they've got a couple of those Perry this season have the waves at the horn sounding [Applause] [Music] and correct service at the point goes to Hawaii [Applause] and that is tough again the margin for error appears to be so small especially in Hawaii is on its game like we are seeing here tonight I'm n so for those kinds of things to happen I've got a drive David hunt kind of crazy righto with the server past there by Noah Dyer outside it's Denmark or simply faked as though he was going to take a swing himself meanwhile Vaz saddled grotto with that hammer [Applause] Klaus is the lifestyle getting up quickly reaching high called a downer Otto couldn't pick it up so 13 serving 17 Caleb Denmark you know once again back to serve a spy gaze Worsley outside it goes to Cowell dug up over the net by wexter so chance here for Hawaii where's it goes back row to Stein dug up by Dyer the dump shot is sniffed out here's rato from the back row his room was next to wives or and heparin I'm within three and that's about as big a block as heaven I can put up six eight six six boys or six eight God is it six six every day I'm starting to play some fierce defense keeping them in these rallies [Applause] diving pass over the net by Stein set goes D set to wexter he gets the Pepperdine point there within two at the time to try to read bill use one of those two timeouts slow down this tidal wave that's coming at him right now I like what you did there it's good then again blanket before serves as a little bit of a timeout as well Hawaii hitting 304 in this second set they have cooled off considerably Pepperdine at 333 certainly the momentum diving a little bit more on the wave side of the net at the moment sticky rotation here for the bones asked by Stein it's a good one set goes outside call left handed put down are you serious so tight for the net really surprised he did good food good stuff right [Applause] nobody home ate kill leads our pores and you get up that high it gives you options does it not by Zorich the block was not there and he delivers a beastly swing for pepper dines point p SF Player of the Year last two babies big time are inferred you can emphasize enough how all of these team is in five over six stars by the top seven or senior where's Lee cause his own number just waiting does he feign would do that several times throughout the match that time three people that often chambero was there Jimbo was this Jimmy wasn't fooled at all over is it just not getting inside of his her forearms we got lucky Worsley second nationally an assist first set guiding in all things coming into this match hitting 480 on the year out sideways auric popped up by color it goes up near the rafters the seconds to Stein off the neck and he tools the block he wasn't the best set SBT may work anyway every hole very consistent and how he made that thought non-call there's a spinning [Applause] it was basically looked like it was mangled but it was consistent with the other non-call Bernie homemade earlier in the first set and just as Pepperdine started to bite at the heels of Hawaii here in the second set a couple of consecutive points they're up four waves signal for a timeout [Music] though First Hawaiian Bank top three this is Big West digs PerR set gage Worsley top of the bunch 2.76 digs PerR said how about tonight see Mac you've got some well believable sleaze in 2.76 is what he's averaging but tonight he's averaging oh six percent crazy and some of these are unimpeded we've seen this at times throughout the season there are some of the hoof digs where the block doesn't get a touch or the block isn't there and he's still he's hopping them up for Hawaii giving them a chance in transition let's check in with Ryan what's up the past few time while tech coach Charlie Wade spending a lot of time specifically Joel Garcia about running this offensive and making sure that he is distributing the sets to where the coach wants him to go they also are going to come out of this time on look for them to do some switch blocking to move Joe Worsley along the net to do better matchups in the front line for Pepperdine they are also talking about they're blocking mainly about their hand positions they're trying to get their Biddle blockers to drop and more feel like Hawaii's beany them on the sharp cross courts back over to you guys thanks a lot Ryan always thinking always tinkering the wheels are always turning of all the years of Charlie ray has been coaching I think the last 10 years this is a problem with his most creative offense ever and you gotta have the PCs that allow you to be creative he certainly has the center that encourages that that's for sure good pick up there by cookin cobble through the back row get to swing on it waves on the attack is Chamberlain dug up one hand styled by kolten the joust of the net and it'll be a Hawaii point David hunts vehemently disagrees [Music] [Applause] we're gonna want to challenge on this date that failure that Joe Worsley touch the mash let's take a look and see was the two centers [Applause] oh what a tough call that's gonna be in David Hunt is going to challenge this he's gonna win the challenge too Worsley was one who last rushed it was a battle between the two setters at the apex again the thing is the call on the floor was thankful ye so is there enough here to reverse that becomes the secondary question I mean that's a tough call to make in real time without a doubt it's still tough even in slow motion both eventually enough trying to wipe the ball off the other ones hands in the same direction the ball hits the antenna vests of no consequence it's just a matter of who touches it last right there from that angle I agree with you it does appear as though Joel was the last one to touch it if he is figure with the East first and then move it's awfully oh that's really cool it is awfully close perhaps too close to reverse the call normal simultaneous [Applause] we'll do a play over that's a possibility that is a distinct possibility [Applause] and will not go explaining himself to David Hunt but he hasn't made an official call yet on the review [Applause] doesn't seem happy about it that's because they have held the ball that is truth be told instead of Pepperdine getting the point and it being 2017 it's a five-point advantage for Hawaii and they're riding a 300 run [Applause] outside why Soren block out a piece what a save by Cowell what a set by Worsley in Stine [Applause] there's real feeling as you've said you just can't be in this white team any openings at all they've got great diggers like towel right there who's made two in a row by the way it's not just the gauge Worsley digging the show that's right now it gets hit on it got in the last set got in on the biggie since but not just a one-man show to save their jigs righto right there that's not gonna help him in his digs contest that he has going what was that all about righto righto and gauge Worsley had a little grunting who's gonna get the most dicks per night and so far tonight Ronald's losing that battle but he quickly throws back as his ball and I got more kills all right Dave's words it gave me chills it's a dig contest Bravo the advantage heavily engages favor yeah in that particular battle [Applause] 17 serving 22 ericone strong malaysia outside stein black that apiece back sided to Westar he goes off the blocking out he has done been numerous times here in this match and Pepperdine not going away just yet 18 serving 22 mixture picks up his fifth kill hit 273 they set from the lady as by calm Worsley squatted down to set that one up for Gaston his sixth kill of the match must be the damage to be only six winning squat kick those full passes they just squat down their yard quick thirty one gap set it gasping 23 serving 18 dire with the first touch high ball set goes out to wexter put a little extra sauce on that one it's swing by Michael extra PSF dimension last year plating the USA junior national team back in 2016 he's an international experience base number two on tonight he just hit the spot net near corner so a timeout taken by Hawaii I totally went had two timeouts I was good to use one right there with the guts the pepper knives most Pro epic Acer's slow them down anyway you can disrupt his rhythm call timeout then they get organized for me these last two points that we're trying to get maybe draw something up here in this leather well absolutely but you know what doesn't make to two different players one is can we just survive wise Oryx serve and get it up anywhere on the court and we've done something high and wide or is gonna be something where to pass up perfectly around a play [Music] Pepperdine leaves the all-time series with Hawaii 44:34 but their last win here at the scene came back in 2009 remember forever these two programs were part of the MPSF Hawaii part of the contingent that broke off to help form the Big West Conference Pepperdine remains in the MPSF the Pepperdine did get Hawaii 3-1 last year in Malibu Hawaii remembers that he remembers that that was one of our highs eight losses that kept them from being in the NCAA tournament [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so 20 serving 23 here coming out of this time [Music] mentioned all four of their losses the roads in fact they road matches prior to coming out to Hawaii they lost on the road against then number six UCLA and number thirteen USC in conference action prior to the outrigger Invitational well this is the guy that the waves want behind the service line then I must get situation but passed there by gage backside sets a Stein over the rock he went right there great super Worsley by the way the guy who likes the right side hidden stains and cannot give congratulations from everybody the Wells a good trend over that two-man block he gets a hug from Milan on the bench for unusual Milan somebody huh huh ball for Hawaii to the second backside it's wexter block back by Zorich plays it middle set that's Chamberland propped up by gage Rosalie that's a big number 13 [Applause] nothing kills for Colton notch up another victory [Applause] [Music] it's [Applause] [Music] [Applause] welcome back cannoli he along with Chris McLaughlin has take a look at the McDonald's and match statistics t-mac away up two sets to none and doing so in pretty convincing fashion once again well they did an offense to believe that 544 hit percentage doing a defensively with the free blocks the two of the 23 bigs 217 they're doing it from behind the service line for aces the two boys just putting on really a show especially if their offensive power 544 is just a huge number be hitting normally for the year Hawaiian gets 490 the other night it's 311 for the year now they had 353 a night they still can't win yeah and this gotta be frustrating also pepper dines got being led by a player in Denmark it's not normally they're you know they're leaving attacker and Hawaii's got home count leading the way watch for the big boys to step up here on both sides in the third set watch for Stein to step up and righto to step up on the other side watch for wise auric and Webster the step I think we're going to see a little bit of a different landscape offensively football games in this third set pretty balanced offensive attack for Hawaii you mentioned Colton Powell he and Stein bond Silver Beach Whitney lion kills 13 Diggs by the way for gage Worsley and it is Joel Worsley serving to start set number three outside it goes to wexter dug up by gage tight to the net with a joust there play it on the wave side watch through a second time blocked in room Gasman and Rado back to when is one big block at 6:10 in 69 pretty good swing by Webster he's just got too much rainbow wall up there serve those Pepperdine do here to sort of swing its fortunes in this third set that's a great question I really think that they need to be to pass better I think but passing Hawaii serves it's just so difficult but they pass a little bit better can draw a little bit more of an offense I think that would be helpful I think they need to dig a few more balls the back row and they need to block a few when the deepest needs to step up he's perfect he's a big serving out of this guy he has two aces already Pepperdine 11th nationally in aces first set Middlesex bassman great pancake saved by Malay he touched over by Denmark you're Stein on the opposite side like old times [Music] this thing's gonna mutually prime number of pursue the pancake dig right there signs that I used a high number of right side notice tonight sales like home back home again which is pretty cool it's pretty comfortable that's for sure he's got ten kills one leads everybody he has also error-free to this point where's they goes back science righto [Music] six for denmark there by himself no match for the wrists away righto 69 that's a little bit of what Charlie Wade was talking about and says once the block starts to take the meat of the court or even down the line righto now has that in his bag with gassmann saying and is for one Hawaii here to start set three when two teams on paper is equally matches their both have great size they sewers and setters and there's a lot of some of the good fires out here the NPSL Player of the Year from last year if anything usually happens in the match like this is usually in the third set it's hard to win three in a row from a team that's really imagine with it so for Hawaii start off quickly here in the third sets that'll be happiness for Charlie way who's max Chamberlain on BSF second-team or a year ago perfect pass buh bye gage Leslie gassmann couldn't put it down waves on the attack and it's Denmark heading to his total he's got eight kills he's hitting well above 300 he has been the waves most effective attacker really throughout this entire invitation [Applause] so please serving for after a couple of consecutive points but the Bugaboos here as of late for the waves that's their eighth service error no Hawaii does have twelve service errors on its side couple more aces however certainly room for improvement for both teams from the service line 69 miles an hour for the ice [Applause] welcome back with a look at some of the highlights for Hawaii from behind the service line they have five service aces on the evening three one each for Colton towel and Pat Gassman so let's go inside the numbers presented by Hanukkah that gasp it knows nothing about timing as he delivers a service error well we're talking about the 91 service aces for Hawaii as a team this season this is updated including tonight's match which has only been aced though 26 times so far this season where's the back side here's Erato lockout a good piece there middle said that's Vaz dug up tight to the net one handset by Worsley whole what you wanted interference no call instead they're going to call Joe Worsley for the violation yeah I was waiting to see whether worse he was for rural backgrounds right good-looking is it driving further away and his back though he becomes like a doctor goes up as an attacker or is he what do you think back well he's definitely after they go above them they're hittin the block he's a good caught going on with the sir back row said why's Erik Dalton's so brick was waited you could discipline by Hawaii that time to not bite on the Kwik sip of wait for that back row back to back real quick so Britt yeah he knew it was coming it's 8:35 here comes again from righto [Applause] there have been a few dangerous moments in that kind of situation who was pat gasping on the opening night against Cain University a jump served that popped Brent rosenmeier in the back of the Tacoma okay where's a little laughter spread around the Hawaii bench probably not as much fun brent rosenmeier himself a throttle from the back row he's putting up the time of numbers that he's puttin up with the vast majority of his swings coming against multiple bombers from behind the line yeah exactly that's right what he's doing is just incredible Mizar echoes up over the block want to save there by Cowell Stein adjust his jump and Angus block and laws he was 10 kills no errors 25 the balls in the air a long time got a new middle in here for the waves Blake are they 50th Cena from Costa Mesa in the front row Stein able to get it right back [Applause] this times tickin faster tempo to the outside this year Joe working out that he doesn't it doesn't really need up you know a highball to gather his key them to have the law of cosines ready to take the fast tip of Sentinel anytime Joe wants to deliver lofting served there by Sol break from the back row Westar dug up by rato call comes over bumps it tight to the net easy pickings there for Robert Maillet here back bucks that you can ascend to the 10-foot line I'm starting out at my swing and I'm trying to set it right on the minute little too ambitious so late serving 10 masked by a gauge right on the money backside set to Rocco he handcuffed the block they're going to say that was illegal up so Hawaii has to play it back again righto a second time return [Applause] all off of the block but they continued playing I think dirty hose will often couldn't see if a down referee again hironaka really stripping the one to call it right here now he's facing it but maybe maybe Faro is blocking the view they're wet still sends it long was there a touch no touch that's a point for Hawaii and we will have a challenge David hunt thought there was impact a touch and so Dan hironaka will take another look at this might be his last challenge and I'm not mistaken that his third one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] looks like he was Gaskins looks like he's got his finger his left finger left ring finger [Applause] [Music] [Applause] yeah we saw with the headset and he does call the touch so a good challenge there by David huntin he was quick on it [Applause] pretty crucial one as well as it goes Pepperdine zwey 11:9 versus 12-8 big difference by the way we got the turnstile numbers here tonight tickets issued over 6,000 through the turnstile just under five thousand people here at the arena largest crowd of the season four thousand nine hundred ninety seven to be exact alien 7-eleven stein against a double Cochrane to you [Applause] [Music] he's doing pretty good give him the stink face on his way back behind the service line 579 unreal oh it is a team hitting 522 for the match play card with the kill there he had 12 kills versus King hitting 562 did not play though last night against Ball State caught that one flush ten servants well where's the backside here Otto [Applause] so quickly so easy hard to block he's hard to dig even when you know it's coming yeah exactly the defenders right they're just putting real serrano into double figures he's got ten how about the ones who bunch of rato and stein 12 kills her Stein hitting 579 10 kills hirato hitting 533 now blocking the piece on the denmark swing here's Cowell [Applause] our thought was rocketed to the outside by John Wesley Powell was ready where's Lee as if you were on a pogo stick just right back up there with the swing it is 14 serving 10 Powell now with 10 kills to join the double figure fun as tell sends it into the twine I mean these numbers are off the charts here seem at the mention Stein 12 kills 579 rado 10 kills 533 10 kills hitting 603 guys [Applause] firstly those Outsiders call again [Applause] this man was he hanging affair seemed like he was hanging near suspended eleven feet [Applause] [Music] welcome back Dalton soul break he's been big as the net for blacks to lead Hawaii's frontline [Applause] Akamai roofing reportin six total team blocks for the Rainbow Warriors in this match how much Joe Worsley the setter one of the most diminutive players on the court he has pulley box lets him I came of Denmark that's the defense for how about Hawaii's office hitting 533 designing out in 81 percent clip if you site out at about 62 63 64 we're gonna win 90% of your games boys shutting out at 81% this game 83% consent number one fast there by Stein backer who said it's righto but he missed it wide first unforced hitting errors that we've seen from pata Poonam they still play their head give dong super gonna step out which opened up the middle of the court for Otto who out are so mad at himself he had a wide open shot if we're not hanging around once again 13 serving 15 cast by Cowboys perfect and Joe takes advantage [Applause] having Fulton car out there remember walk-ons at the program with the intent of being a candidate for libero and he says hey look you spoke about best hitters and he is also like another libero on the floor here's mrs. Powell right there Christina who hails from Pluto Holly Zorich Monstress [Music] we cook until his first company there he came on as a walk-on so he sounded like the 3rd Corps in the gym shagging balls and putting time even in practice then he moves up to like a certain specialist for the next year and the next thing you know he decides you only lose half a round starts playing beach boy starts lifting Stein dug up tight to the net so Britt reached over little over exuberant that time at the net and it's a point for Pepperdine there with him [Applause] largest lead for Hawaii in this third set was for as by stein well done he gets the set on the outside and then goes off have had a response each and every time Pepperdine has started to believe in down their neck all these players are pretty much on a mission to have the best season they can possibly have it on each other's little bit more and takes about that then stopping on Tilbury Stassi honest with this area backside fester gets it down because that now because another part of this right is things have gone so swimmingly you certainly get on top of the streak and all that Charlie Wade that's part of his responsibility along with the rest of the coaching staff to keep some of that chatter some of that focus weathered but at the same time focus does become an issue for a team that has achieved so much early season success does it not absolutely that's a nice looking swing by remember his interview Charlie said we can't worry about all those stats no streaks they miss that stuff you can just go pay attention keep their eyes on the pass over the big picture [Applause] you know us included in Setauket easily printable streaks the numbers are putting up whether it be their offensive goal percentage or what how many categories you're leading in the country or how many players they have through the top 10 like every category body memories was 21 where's it goes hi in a way Stein touches it over the block the set was tight to the pin had two hands live a little [Applause] Stein's 6-8 he can reach very high and save on what I would call an errant who won't emerge Lisa [Applause] once I'm out left for Pepperdine soon for Hawaii here it comes from Joe Cosley [Applause] when that comes up though the question of focus he will in most instances AB no this is kind of a special group there's not much that I have to do to keep them focused they've kind of do it on their own as you see the update from les Murakami Stadium Game three of that pillar games set we have three one in the six why Zurich with the serve tied at 18 where's that goes back side here Stein two blockers up the if he goes to right he's pretty much unstoppable Capri block yourself because make a difference three blockers in the ladder baby Stein is hitting 609 with 15 kills and Rosie to Sarah and he's getting the wrong keys her breasts are the azorath with the pass and the middle set on the money to play corn so Pepperdine given Rob's here we're time for the fourth time in this third frame it is 19 all and play car to serve passed by rosy backside righto purify he's been going through school all night long sighs okay this one l7 wicked the blind shot fake car found out the hard way [Applause] Denmark rejected [Applause] and again much had his way with wise blocked most of the night in fact the SOI his third error all night long step nine kills it prisoner to lead the way for the wage that's I'm just too big a block to attack there seven total team blocks for Hawaii now in this match [Music] continuing to hit above 500 there at 519 next up for the Mo's it will be a pair of conference matches against nationally ranked CSUN that's coming up here this weekend or this coming week Friday and Saturday night March 15 and 16 good conference test she said always dangerous all those dangerous Lygia team to be [Music] to fight off a doozy of a challenge they go to the BYU Invitational in Provo where they will cap that tournament by playing against the Cougars in one of the toughest atmospheres in all of college volleyball is sending it back over to Ryan thanks panel one thing that Hawaii has been doing in the last few matches the insertion of Bret rosenmeier in the last three rotations of spine BOTS a growth back row he's currently in the matchup right now for passing reasons and the Pepperdine waves coaching staff recognizes that they're telling their servers to go after rosenmeier when he's in the back row trying to test the senior who's just been inserted this last play before that rosamond nailed the path we'll see if they continue to try to exploit Bret rosenmeier not knowing that he's a very experienced player himself back over to you guys Charlie talked about that last night when rosie came into the match he said he was just nails when it came to surgery Steve he's the fresh face right in this circumstance treated as such by opposing servers but not really the case cause slams it home great set from the way that time nice past from NOAA dire good past except they swing by bother one differential here it comes from wexter two-hand cascades Worsley [Applause] [Music] and it's part of Poonam's turn sir [Music] [Applause] by a piece of the Knitting mats on Vaz in the middle and they're working to beam Baz that's his fifth put down on six swings he has no errors he gets different I'm back within one [Applause] here's kale of Denmark fast thereby gage outside its Cowell through the block saved by wexter outside by Sauron and Pepperdine has tied it up here in the bird [Music] [Applause] play some tough points down the stretch they haven't been much this year 20 we go I think map out Willis could be like to go to get torque place 23 24 25 it's not going to be easy now it is purely aesthetic at this point Hawaii has set an NCAA record for consecutive sets lon the main thing is they want to keep winning math they're off to the best start [Music] but for discussion purposes the street is at 44 and right now you have Pepperdine to be very game here in this situation and threatening mastery I think we've got ways or the foot low as well but there goes collette attacker [Music] we'll see if I think ways or probably we'll be getting most of the sets down the stretch here [Applause] would be surprised to see Charlie Wade sticks tine van Tilburg back in so Hawaii as a big attack from the back row or but maybe maybe their coastal heaven Rosie get the bit out of the back row yeah he's yet another guy on this Hawaii roster that has that capability [Music] Rosi does remain out there Hawaii [Music] crowd on hand and they've been treated to another spectacular performance overall by this Squad that they are a push this duta-de Pepperdine I see the community come out and support the Rainbow Warriors like this to the highest wave teaming campus right now [Applause] this is an entertaining contest with the Thunder one it's style of play it's quality of play this team is no joke folks they're three points away but so are the waves can taking this third set passed by Powell where's there goes back side his approach droopy the defense has said this one they're gonna set righto so sure enough two blockers up tick routers cross sport though brother says no I said I'm telling you guys I've got a live shot the van big big crippled Asia boy brought of the Seebeck serve there by Paulo good pass Basel [Applause] and five thousands time here at the Stan Sheriff Center rise to the occasion [Applause] four to go 15 and Oh [Applause] outside my Soren oh that was a laser beam we have seen some from Hawaii's Jersey number 19 we've also seen several from Pepperdine Jersey number 19 it's a great player I think a two-time all-american the next swing as well if there is one these Hawaiians can burger that the desert it can be converted in about 7080 percent great on Seidel to see think convert here until Wiccans sophomore in and back to serve to hand Baikal tough pass outside Stein the date diving save over the net by wexter where's the outsides done [Applause] and again just how to feel it's fine was it to get multiple attempts there and Joseph stay awake brother business to obvious - OH [Applause] [Applause] has been a kahin aloha aloha 45 straight set victories to start this season for the rainbow the street who lives on number 16 kills only one error at 600 I'll say it again 600 no outside hitter since I hit 600 middles we'll do that you know a lot the outside hitters only with two blockers all the time [Music] another pin hitter 526 colqhoun opinion it goes against a really good Pepperdine team really what is if you haven't already for in the now down on route to getting to this 15 and old start it is absolutely impressive you see I on the road last weekend twice Pepperdine here and their home court and it's gonna get tougher CSUN won't be an easy play next week so with that Hawaii claims the title the outrigger resorts Invitational championship Charlie Wade is with Scott Rawlins coach congratulations you win the outrigger invitation you have always said as long as I've known you that volleyball is about serving and passing that was the story tonight you guys did very well in both yeah you know and I thought we served well and had our worst serving night of the year two things can be possible but so if we put good pressure on him and we did what we wanted we just missed way more than we usually do so you know not terribly thrilled with it obviously stroke through the outcome and and really proud to to another outrigger Invitational you know 25 years it's a great relationship with outrigger hotels can't be more thankful for everything they've done not only for men's volleyball but you know for Hawaii athletics and really all the state can you describe how important righto pot-au-feu knopf is to this team well yeah I mean I think right now he's a if not the leader and certainly in the conversation from Player of the Year I mean what he does from the service line and blocky and he needs uh he's a complete player there's no question coach enjoy it thank you hold on alright guys thanks a lot Scott Bank of Hawaii presents the players of the match let's take a look for Pepperdine we give the nod to Kaleb Denmark nine kills hit 300 with a pair of digs and yeah righto Potter who knows because of his numbers he's going to be in the conversation for National Player of the Year but you could say the same if you really wanted to per Stein fun silberregen tonight he was terrific sixteen kills six hundred hitting percentage the thing is we have seen it so many times from Stein we almost I think take it for granted how good this guy is yeah we should we got to pinch ourselves and reorganize and reset and say you know what we cannot take this guy for granted is really special I know his mom and dad are probably watching and from Amsterdam right now yeah they're right there at Grandma's house are they yeah okay or this morning over there yeah yeah be like 6:00 a.m. but yeah it's it's really fun to watch a guy like Colton Cal right there as you see him high five and everybody watching him develop they have them fit in with this this international group of players in Stein canto Berg and wrought upon our Pune to our we're so experienced internationally here comes Cowell from Maui go figure righto Papa Panov named the Most Outstanding Player of the outrigger resorts Invitational Steinbach Tilburg gage Worsley Joe Worsley from Hawaii all making the all tournament team as well in Hawaii does it in spectacular fashion against the sixth nineteen in the country Blake the gentlemen if you are given consideration for coming down to the arena to watch this team play it behooves you to do so they are historically good here 15 matches into the season and they will host CSUN this coming week Friday and Saturday night great crowd tonight was wonderful to see Hawaii get a win in front of such an energetic group of fans they do it in straight sets don't forget about the postgame show but for now for Chris McLaughlin - Oh Leahey until next time everybody we did you all know hub from the Stan Sheriff Center [Music] let's look at highlights number two Hawaii versus number six Pepperdine we start off with the outside hitter courts in owl who had a sub by the way from attacking from the left side of behind the 3-meter line as well 588 huh ball bouncing so break in the middle bringing the block with him this evening six total blocks they're so brave solo right there is going total times on the night Ronald Park Poonam always brings the heat he did again tonight 13 kills for the Bulgarian kid 526 he added more digs and three blocks in Steinbach Tilburg the outstanding Dutchman again 16 kills with it he hit 611 service received with boy makes it a sweep again this time over Pepperdine this is the post game show on spectrum sports palace take a look at Ronald harpoon often the rest of the rainbow wars rival named the most outstanding player of the 25th outrigger Invitational and of course had some teammates join them as well the Worsley Brothers and Stein van Tilburg they could have just named the entire starting unite Klein humble I think to make the all tournament team you know this is tough this is a tough situation they come away with a huge win huge Pepperdine did not fall down they gave them a great challenge Hawaii everybody contributing and you know that it comes to a point where you do have to just recognize and numbers do come front and forward and rattle apart poonam had an incredible time yeah and I'm glad gage bars it getting some recognition the sophomore libero who has really gone someone unnoticed throughout the season this team that has really demonstrated their offensive prowess a lot of people forget the defensive side gage where's the tonight 15 digs really solidifying himself as one of the top love arrows in the country but not only has he done a great job defensively in picking up these digs as we take a look at some of his highlights but he's also really a captain of the back row he's talking to his blockers in between time off selling them what they have to take away talking to them about their positioning really managing to serve receive he is a player that is very valuable to that backcourt bloody nose and all yeah had the bloody nose at a put a little tissue in there it didn't seem to stop him but you know I'm sitting back here and I'm watching Hawaii and they're getting challenged in that third set but their composure reminded me of that first set against UC Irvine on the road last weekend they're just so composed and they have so much confidence in themselves that they don't seem to be worried well they're relaxed you know they're playing with a lot of confidence and winning breeds confidence and they're on their home court with over 6,000 fans here tonight Joe Worsley posted earlier in the day hashtag Phil the sheriff they just want the stands full they want people to come out and support them and see what they've worked so hard to attain and you know what this I guarantee you will be filled very soon you know it's interesting to know when you're in those situations I mean we saw Hawaii at a 24 23 point just in that third set and if I'm Joel Worsley I don't know who I'm setting I mean I'm not silver Ronna paruppu enough coats and cowls playing unbelievably well you know your middles are doing well as well so it's a tough row to be in as a captain setter to be back there and knowing that you have all of these offensive weapons it can get taxed he is done a fantastic job of knowing when to go to the players at the right point of right moment and really showing that he can lead to cement leave the soccer mom for me well let's take a look at the final numbers from this one they will be impressive once again final stats brought to you by Levitt jamani and solder Hawaii hitting 523 and their blocks you know they put up a nice block this evening but again I have to go back to the service aces fiveaces 16 years a little high for them but i will tell you from the service line they put a lot of pressure on the Pepperdine waves tonight and 523 how do you hit 523 I guess the number six ranked team in the country those are incredible numbers and if you look down the stat line I mean once over Hicks 600 Gasman 357 Powell hitting 588 and par Pune 526 I mean those are just insane numbers this this team continues to impress and I think it starts we mentioned the number of server serves but it really does start with their serving I mean you mentioned how much they disrupted the other team but also how well they receive the serve Pepperdine is one of the best serving teams in the country and who I was excellent receiving well I'll tell you who did a great job receiving was Steinbach tonight his serve receive is excellent you gotta remember he started at the right side player Bane who came in and our passer for the teams when he switched over to left but here taking a look at the way he serves again just some phenomenal service [Music] service time you're serving from all over the court they're mixing it up and you know it's just creating the energy they're getting the momentum from the get-go alrighty so Hawaii takes care of business 45 let us think in 45 straight sets they have one to start 2019 we'll take a break we'll have more we come back now special guests in the corner shortly but don't go anywhere [Music] welcome back to the post game show on spectrum sports over 5000 in the house tonight many of them still hanging around us white captures the Outrigger invitational in a sweep of number six Pepperdine one of the guys that contributed mightily is the middle blocker Patrick Gasman the leader in the country when it comes to blocks per set but tonight it was a little bit more often for you six kills you had 14 swings that might be a season-high that is definitely a season out there for you [Applause] they're open doors also just killing it would you say that this was the most challenge that your team has been this far yes I would say they had some really good arms and they hit the ball past well they kept us on our toes the entire time talk a little bit about I know that this was last weekend but the matchup at Irvine and being tested in that first set of the first match when you guys went to overtime and played in 230 how do you think that challenge has sort of helped you guys throughout not only the rest of that series went leading into this weekend for me personally that just kind of helps it like our confidence kind of like even when it's even when we have a huge lead they bring it back I know that like just when it's tied up 22 all like I know though we're not in any situation we have been there before like we didn't get out of this easy a year ago you guys played at Pepperdine you got beat in four was that something you guys talked about it all oh yeah did you we've been talking about that for a week now listen your locker room of teams you want to beat that beat you a year ago not actual list but it every team usually comes up why and when next week Jimmy phone and play CSUN yeah and they beat you guys twice with I remember a year ago so yeah we got a score to settle so talk a little bit about you talked about your maturity and how you've changed mentally and physically as well from last year and how you're putting more into it what have you done personally to make that change you know you talked about how you more serious oh yeah yeah so I definitely try and watch a lot more film before games Josh will give us a nice scouting report but now instead of like instead of watching TV when I go home I'll go home and watch other teams play and like I'll watch like I'll go to volumetrics and go to the setter and we're facing and just watch every single cent he has for the next previous match to get a good read on his hands for blocking and then I'll watch all the Middle's attacks and what their tendencies are and I'll talk to Josh a lot more about it I'll go in his office and talk with him about it so so it's Josh the one who works with you specifically on that oh that's what I'm going done then a couple times but uh oh no it's like honestly whoever's around liked all the coaches that are prepared for every game so one of the things that we notice is just the overall chemistry of this seem seems to be really tight and and when you look at the senior class this year you were kind of included in that class you redshirted of course so you came in with the same senior group as in Colton you know and and and you guys have sort of come together with this class that's actually heading out talk about that chemistry and the cohesiveness of that class and the fact do you think that how is that impacted the overall team that's Devin pact overall team like for the younger guys for sure like we they see how well we interact each other like on the core are just like knowing who's where and what they're gonna do like like now I don't want to call myself like uh I basically can tell what Joe's gonna do before he does it like we all know like what's in each other's heads right we've known each other so long out do you have a pretty good relationship with Ronald I'm a great listener because last night you rejected him I don't think remember in the third set he came over he didn't mean give you give you a kiss he thought he was just trying to show his love and you rejected him Patrick why would you reject him not my type hey congratulations great job keep it going and we're not gonna talk about streaks or anything right just one game at a time see so next week we're gonna start preparing on Monday all right guys for gas the dark corner gets here in the postgame show we'll take a break coming back now some thoughts of wrap things up [Music] welcome back to the post game show on spectrum sports our we're back here let's take a look at the upcoming schedule for Hawaii come up next Friday and Saturday back to the big where so I take on the 12th ranked Matadors of CSUN and then who I will go to Provo for a tournament McKendree Princeton at number ten BYU also play Concordia Irvine then I think pretty much the rest of ways is big or the University of Hawaii but white tonight makes it a win in three again 15 and no all sweeps you look at this Hawaii team if you haven't come out here we sell like we're the PR guys for the men's volleyball team but it's just it's so special what they're doing you want to be a part of it and you can get free tacos the way that's true I mean they give jacket about tacos for every three Swit I mean they may have to reconsider that because they've been all sweep so far but really it's just a fun team to watch I mean and next week will be a challenge CSUN is this scary team that they may not necessarily have the record but they do have the personnel there to really cause some trouble and we saw that last year when Hawaii played at CSUN so they are a scary team and and could pull the test for this Warriors squad it's a perfect opportunity for people to come out and watch but also Hawaii playing at their home CSUN scary team they beat UCLA earlier in the season so again they kind of go up and down but they can get on these rolls and it that's exactly what Hawaii needs they need to be challenged and they were challenged tonight and they still hit over 500 which is mind-boggling all right we saved the best for the last in game on which comes on a half hour before every match you should watch it I really recommend it we had picked good number and so nice question was combined digs and blocks from Ronald harpooned off we came in averaging 2 per game per set Lisa you picked 5 Ryan you picked 7 Lisa the defending champion and as I look at my stat number we have a new champion congratulations Ryan Claire suji not only did you win but you nailed it 7 yeah I'd like to thank Rado power Puna for this award we talked before the match I went in during the halftime he was down by 3 I needed him to get three more blocks or digs we had a nice talk during that halftime and he pulled through people through I now owe him some food later on at 4 digs 3 block just joking no that's an NC double-a violation I'm just joking you guys have eaten last thoughts I think great victory I really like the Outrigger Invitational in the middle of the season I think back-to-back play was critical for this team who's had an interesting season so far with huge breaks nice to see them they've worked out a lot of I don't think they had a lot of kings but the things that they're doing they continue to get better with each game I know that we sound like a broken record and we do sound like the University of Hawaii Public Relation from out here but really this is a very special team and if you have not had the opportunity to come down here to the Stan Sheriff Center you should I mean this is a team that you're not gonna see a team this good in a while in any University of Hawaii sport so I would highly recommend that if you are you H fan you live here on the island of Oahu come on down here next weekend to the Stan Sheriff Center because this place is a lecture we haven't seen this kind of atmosphere since I dare I say the you've all cuts even the Aaron Wilton Jason ring years this is a fun squad and you want to be a part of it already that will be the final word from the sheriff Center tonight special thanks to our standing spectrum of sports crew and the fans right there as well for Wyatt Alisa I'm Scott until next time we Big Joe and a good evening from the Stan Sheriff Center in mono [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
