King's cross St Pancras is at the time of filming this video the busiest Underground Station no wonder as well as having six tube lines it connects with the temps link the busy East Coast Mainline to Scotland the international terminal at St panas and a variety of local commuter services but in amongst the bustle of the station I spotted something odd on the Victoria line platforms there are Direction signs what's odd about these ones is it seems that there has been a correction well that's nothing unusual it's common to alter signs rather than replace them for instance there are a few places where the central line map has had the closed eping oner section plated over but Regent Canal has never changed its name and it's always been there so obviously there's been a mistake did they perhaps admit the sea from the word Canal it's an easy mistake to make in at least one place the sticker has peeled off revealing what was originally written it was Regent Park well that is a little embarrassing King's cross is one of many places that Regent Canal passes through but it's nowhere near Regent Park I mean you could walk it if you want I suppose but you'd be much better off going to Great Portland streets Baker Street or well Regent Park Regent Canal actually runs through Regent Park both take their name from The Prince Regent AKA The Prince of Wales AKA priny AKA much later King George ivth John Nash was a major player in both the park and the canal being the planner of the first and a director of the second he was an architect who would be responsible for a lot of the development around here priny was his Patron so Nash was able to get his endorsements to name both after him the prince would also get a summer house in the park the park was laid out in 1812 and the canal was completed in 1820 coincidentally the prince would also be indirectly responsible for naming King's cross after his death in 1830 a statue was erected in his honor on a road Junction in what was then Battle Bridge unfortunately the king's unpopularity meant that the builders couldn't raise sufficient funds so the resulting statue was cheap and ugly and unpopular even among people who liked the late King it was knock down in 1845 but it left its mark on the area even though the Regent was only parked there for 15 years anyway that's enough padding I just thought that sign was interesting is it a problem H probably not I doubt any tourists come to King's cross expecting to actually get to Regent Park they're more more likely here for Platform 9 and 3/4 I would recommend both Regent Park and Regent Canal as fine places to go for a walk but perhaps January is not the best time well I hope you enjoyed this misleading tale from the tube if so please do leave a like and consider subscribing for more I would like to thank my donors on Kofi and patreon and here on YouTube for your support you are the sticker to my misprinted sign and I will see you all again very soon for another tale from the tube
