I buried my Vietnam Veteran father one month ago today. This is the song we played while we said goodbye. This was his song. Thank you for posting.
One of the very few songs that makes me emotional. Its a crushing feeling having finally turned everything around despite the odds and make yourself successful, yet most nights you wish to yourself that you dont wake up in the morning. Youre supposed to be happy right? You finally are reaping the hard work you have sown, but it just wont come to you. So you put on a smile every day pretend its all okay, vieling wounds inside with humor and terrible jokes. A storm of self loathing and despair while the sun shines on you.
Sitting in a dive bar in a small town about the time I turned 21. Some friends were shooting pool and I was sitting there with some silent old-head a seat or two down from me. This song was playing and he looks at me about half way through and says:
"You know what the rain is man? Mortar shells.", and goes back to his drink.
My mom thought the chorus was "I want to know, have you ever seen Lorraine?" Serious.
I was at a hockey camp in Toronto this was the song everyone would break into song much too loudly.

Honestly, thank you for posting this. I just went and listened to Chronicle by CCR again for the first time in a long time. I had a friend in middle school who introduced me to this band. This would be in the early 90's. I really think that album and some of the others he showed me really began my love affair with Rock and Roll.
