g'day I'm that roller door bloke if you're here from my other channel thanks heaps for popping over to my first long video on this new channel and Chuck as a follow if you want to see more okay we've got a roller door that's completely lost all of its spring tension I'm pretty sure somebody has undone the u-bolts trying to adjust it and by the looks of it they've tried to re-tension the door in the opposite direction and twisted and bent up all the curtain and they've also bent this bracket on the right hand side but there's a very easy trick to fix these through that Bend in that so what we'll do we'll go over to the side with the bent bracket bent bracket and we'll tighten that u-bolt up so these are 13 millimeter nuts and then this side on the opposite side will loosen that u-bolts now generally you don't want to muck around with a roller door while it's down you want to have it up don't touch any of the u-bolts especially when the door is down it's a big No-No all right so let's get into fixing the brackets as you can see this door is free from all spring tension so quite safe to work on as it is now so these u-bolts are loose any of the other ones are tight now you want to grab yourself a pipe wrench or a pair of stilsons these are my uh awesome Irwin vice grip brand ones they grip onto the shaft really really well nice and safe to use some can be a bit slippery so the trick is to put the stilsons on the shaft upside down and then we'll turn the shaft anti-clockwise and because that u-bolt down there is tight it will bend the bracket up with it look at that a very simple trick to fix these bent brackets on the BND roller doors so let's take a look and see how good we've done first shot all right and that's pretty bloody straight to me look at that that's one job out the way already so if you've got a bent BND bracket it's the easiest way to straighten it out all right let's get some spring tension on this door so we'll keep that u-bolt loose and now we've got to loosen this u-bolt as well we need the shaft completely free so we can turn it and wind on the spring tension to the springs so we'll just loosen that one and then we'll go over to the other side so we're going to use two pairs of stilsons this is the quickest and safest way to retention a roller door that's lost all its tension while the door is down if the door is up you can tie a rope around it and just use one pair of stilsons and do the nuts up as you go I've got another video on that I think so we're going to pull down and this u-bolt is loose make sure we've got enough shaft hanging over so we don't have the door fall off that would be bad so we're all safe and ready to go just gotta pop my camera somewhere I've didn't bring my tripod today I'm just using my iPhone so I'm going to try and stash it in the bushes here and that looks pretty good so with the two pairs of Steel sins connect them very tightly to the shaft you don't want them slipping is the most important part when you're setting up for retentioning and what you want to do is turn or pull down on one pair of stilsons and grip with the other one and then pull down on the other pair of stillsons so just keep alternating still since you can actually pull down both at once if you need to because once the spring tension gets to a certain point it is quite hard to turn so use the leverage from both pairs of Steel strings all right so that door is starting to suck itself back into shape with the spring tension let's go take a look make sure there's enough shaft sticking out still we'll just knock that bracket in a little bit it's moved a touch so we've still got a bit more to suck in on this side once we get a bit more tension on it that should pull itself in because the spring is attached to the shaft and then the other end is attached to the drum wheel which will in turn spin itself a bit tighter so we'll keep going with the spring tension keep pulling down I'm going to use both steelsens at once here it's a much easier job to pull down with two hands there's quite a bit of tension on the door when it's down it has to lift the whole weight of the door just keep going with the stilsons a couple of more quarter turns and then we'll give it a check and generally would uh put a bit of cardboard as we rest the stillsons onto the ceiling there but they they're actually knocking this place down so not too fast they just want the door running until the tenant moves out okay let's take a look so that's what you can do you can just rest your stilsons against the ceiling without doing up the u-bolts and that will um keep the tension on there temporarily like they said they're knocking this room down I think they're knocking the whole place down actually in a couple of months but you just put some uh protection Behind These they don't Mark your ceiling as you can see the u-bolts are still loose and it's holding spring tension just on the stilsons all right let's put this door up a bit that's got enough tension to lift but it is coning quite badly that alignment is terrible which means on this side the inner roll is sticking out so the shaft needs to go to the left which will bring that inner roll in alignment with the tracks if the inner row was inside of the door we'd bring the shaft to the right and that will bring the inner Row in alignment with the track that way so if you grab your steelsens and wiggle the shaft and push in a slight outwards direction that will drag the shaft over and bring that inner roll in alignment with the track and then hopefully when we roll the door up and down again it will be perfectly aligned we've done this plenty of times so that should definitely do the trick so now I did that off camera quickly we should have the door in alignment if you'd like to see a bit more on this once I get another dual I'll make a video just on aligning a roller door to the tracks but basically you work with the center of the Dual roll and then the rest of the door will roll up on top of that and keeping alignment so that looks pretty good if the door up and we'll see how it runs now so it's about 40 years old this door and it actually doesn't run too bad most people would get to this job and think Jesus needs a new door for sure but that rolls up pretty bloody good not quite like a new one but pretty close pretty smooth it'll get them out of trouble until they move out remember that pretty much perfectly aligned and all the u-bolts are done up now we'll just fix up that little stopper there that's a bit twisted but other than that this door is running beautifully on that roller door bloke thanks for watching
