[Music] i bought a caster with the biggest tire that i could find on amazon in hopes that i could bolt it to the foot of this jack but unfortunately the bolt pattern is a little bit too wide of a spread so we're just gonna have to weld it on which is not that big of a deal get some silver spray paint covered up the welds and this should work just fine the idea here of course is that i want to be able to push this around easily go push it out of the shop or push it back into the shop or even on the trail i might disconnect from the tow vehicle and spin it around on this caster who knows it just seems like it's a little bit more usable like this and i've had this idea for a long time i couldn't find a perfect solution so this is as good as we got [Music] personally i don't really think that you need to completely waterproof an off-road trailer like this it's going to get dusty it's going to get dirty in some capacity but i think that it's a good idea to keep the platters and chatters down and to weather seal it a little bit with some automotive seam sealer i got this stuff at autozone it's kind of expensive but in my opinion it's worth the money because it's just an investment in the trailer long term and by the way this is the same stuff they seal up new cars with so even though it looks like it's a quick and dirty version of doing this it's completely normal to just lay down a fat bead and smear it in with your fingers [Music] it is lava hot in the shop right now but the good news is this entire video is going to be all paint and bodywork and heat this intense is going to make for some pretty quick cure time so it'll be easy to recoat and then eventually by the end of the video we're going to have this thing wrapped i'm going to have all the accessories remounted i'm very excited to see what this is going to look like with the wrap that we chose and the different paint colors that i have in my head hopefully it all turns out as good as it looks in my head if you've watched any of my videos this year you know that i have been using the seymour paint on a lot of projects and i like it a lot so this is what we're gonna use on this trailer now i've started with filler primer and that was just to get a good fat heavy base coat down to fill in any sort of like grinding like tiny scratches or anything like that and then once i sand everything down it's going to make it very apparent what's high and what's low most of the trailer is going to get gloss black and then the fenders and a couple other spots are going to get a spray on bed liner [Music] [Applause] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] this is a budget-friendly trailer and aluminum is not super budget-friendly although neither is steel these days let's be honest but i decided that i wanted to put aluminum trim over all the corners because imagine what this is going to look like after just a couple of trips where branches are going to be hitting this corner there's going to be rocks off of the front tires that are going to hit this corner i think that it's gonna be a lot easier to clean up aluminum after all these impacts because there's not any rust underneath it uh than just having a steel corner so we'll see maybe eventually i'll take it all off but right now i think that it's gonna make it a lot easier to maintain the looks of the trailer so i'm about to use this guy i have never used one of these i just bought this from home depot it's a quarter 20 drill bit and tap all in one i think that for something like this it's going to make it way faster to install the hardware to bolt on this trim so the plan is to pre-drill the holes on the trim transfer the holes into the trailer and then we can drill and tap it all in one shot if you've got a steady hand and you take your time these are an absolute game changer because we're not talking about just drilling and tapping one hole we're talking about i don't know 30 or 40 holes maybe even more than that actually now to think about it so anything that can save time is obviously super valuable but unfortunately we're going to find out that they're not as durable as i would like but we'll get to that later [Music] [Applause] [Music] i'm a little bummed about these self-tapping drill bits i had high hopes for them but it was user air i was using a hand drill with these i think with a like a drill press these would probably be pretty foolproof but with the tiniest amount of wobble i very quickly broke the two that i bought so maybe i'll revisit this in the future but for now i had to just switch back to my normal quarter 20 tap anyway moving forward we're gonna be using a spool gun and i love to practice with tig with aluminum anytime i can but i'm overheating out here i need this to be done quick so i can throw some paint on this trim and i go back in the house and cool off and rest so we're going to tack it together on the trailer then we're going to pull it off we're going to finish weld everything on the table grind it smooth throw a coat of paint on everything and then i need to get i need to change clothes i need to cool off i need to get out of this heat [Music] [Music] they say that hindsight is 20 20 and that absolutely applies here this was so much extra work in order to build this trim and so if i could go back and do it all over again i would definitely just take the extra time weld any discrepancies that i need to and grind everything smooth it would have been a few hours of work but it would have saved me a few days of building this trim tapping these holes transferring these holes all that stuff so hindsight's 20 20. and this is a perfect example of how you do these projects for the first time and you learn along the way [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] i called in reinforcements got my homie ed shin we've got kelly with muddy beards and they're gonna help me do the vinyl we're going orange we're going cheap because that's what i figure you guys would do if you were building a budget trailer so this is vivid the uh the only other rap experience i have is on the tacoma we used super expensive vinyl it was like 1400 in vinyl this costs a lot less than that i don't remember the exact price but you can find this stuff on amazon pretty cheap so ed has done a little bit of rapping before so he's going to be our gandalf in this whole situation and hopefully we don't mess up because i didn't buy like any extra a vinyl wrap is basically just a big sticker you peel the backing off of it it's got an adhesive that you then apply to whatever the surface is you're trying to get it stick to and then you trim around the edges smooth it out and now you've got a new look my friend ed is not an expert at doing vinyl wraps but he's somebody who has a lot more experience than i do and he has all the tools to do it so i invited him over to be an extra pair of hands and we're going to see what we can do watch it's just under five feet oh no that's not long enough okay well what we can do is you're gonna have scenes showing if you don't mind the scene showing it's been just the part that we're not using what the heck where's my tape measure it's trailer but that's right the tent was six feet long yeah so i ordered five material wow dude well this is a little bit embarrassing i ordered five feet of vinyl instead of six because i hadn't been out and worked on the trailer in a while and i just uh thought in my head that it was a five foot long trailer so i ordered five feet of vinyl instead of six foot sections i think that if we're super creative we might be able to hide the seam especially because we're gonna be putting so much stuff on it but we'll see if i don't like it i'm gonna tear all the vinyl back off and we'll just redo it wow i should have cleaned that up way better i made some huge mistakes and this is turning into a giant disaster i have some overspray from when i did the fenders yesterday and that overspray is truck bed coating and things don't like to stick to truck bed coating so the bottom third of this vinyl wrap on these walls is not wanting to stick hardly at all even with heat doesn't matter what we do to it so we're going to do a really rough job just kind of cutting everything putting it up there i'm going to reinstall a whole bunch of these accessories i want to see what it looks like with this color and just try to take advantage of a bad situation i've got nothing good to say it was it was so crappy to waste money and time like this but these are lessons that are hard learned and it's one that i've definitely learned for the second time now you've got to prep your surfaces if you want to use vinyl this all has to come back off but i wanted to do like an assembly to see how everything fits and uh ed did his best i i messed up on like prepping everything and there's too much like overspray from the bed liner the texture that i put on the fenders and it's made for the vinyl will not stick and this cheap vinyl kind of sticks like crap anyway yeah the adhesive wasn't great on the vinyl and that's good important lesson for you to learn and on top of the fact that surface area contact is important flat smooth surface area yeah so when there's grit dust dirt it creates that space between the vinyl and the surface that you want to adhere it to which makes that attachment pretty much hard and impossible it shows like i mean like this it's not sticking yeah and that's a two-part it's a tag team combo with that because the adhesive on the vinyl first of all wasn't that great oh it sucks and then it won't even stick to itself yeah so it's like if you if you want to try this out at home try sticking vinyl on sandpaper similar like high grit sandpaper or low grit and you'd see anywhere yeah it just will not stick so i'm curious what you guys think i'm tempted to just get some orange paint and paint this because i've all my background is in paint i love experimenting with vinyl because vinyl is cool and you could you can make some really cool finished projects products with it but i just feel like to get the reveal i want and know it's going to stick paint just feels like it's where it's at yeah i don't know the color's good yeah the color so you think i should say orange i mean it pops yeah the accessories pop it looks good you know and yeah i think let me know in the comments well should i stay orange and should my opinion after putting matte orange on it is i want to do gloss orange i think the gloss is going to pop a lot better and look a little less homemade so i'm thinking of just ordering some gloss orange paint and painting these exact same areas that are orange now with just a better looking orange then it'll stick because it's paint instead of vinyl plus i'm actually going to prep the surface better for that too yeah but anyway thank you so much for watching ed thanks for the help man absolutely brilliant and anytime kelly whenever you watch this thank you kelly had to run him and his wife were going to a concert but he at least came and played for a little bit yeah so let me know what you guys think next week i'm probably going to be doing all the electrical on this so we're going to be installing a whole bunch of lights got a whole bunch of stuff to do there and then if i get the paint in time we'll be repainting this bad boy
