hi everyone my name's Haley I'm one of the carnival team here at culture suzo so as part of my job I do get to work with our pair of vong and today is world bintong day so what I'm going to do is tell you a little bit about bintong as a species but also tell you a little bit about our two individuals that we have here at C to zoo so what I'm going to do is I'm just about to start putting some fruit into our fire house plat behind us here and hopefully you'll see our male Teddy coming along for a little bit of food [Music] so as you can see this is our male Teddy so he is 6 years old so he absolutely loves coming over and investigating new things so especially if we're out in the enclosure as well as Keepers you'll be watching us and keeping an eye seeing what we're up to and if we do have a bucket or anything new in the enclosure then he's always the first one over to come and have a a little bit of a look so as you can see he is showing off some of the skills of our binong that I'll be telling you about in a little bit this is cilka she is our female binon and she is 9 years old now cilka loves to spend her time napping so she can quite often be found either in her nest box in her house or having a nap all the way at the top of the tree in their outside enclosure now cilka has a lot more white and gray Flex that runs throughout her body giving her a much lighter coloration whereas Teddy is a lot darker in coloration with far more black hairs all over his body now the F males of the bintong species are always the larger of the two and this is definitely the case between cilka and Teddy so cilka is almost double the size of Teddy and she weighs in at around 20 kilos in weight whereas Teddy weighs in at about 10 kilos so bin wrong actually communicate with each other by using a sink gland that they have underneath their tail so what they do is they drag their tail as they're moving across the branches so they can then spread out this scent and the most interesting thing is that actually this scent to you and me would smell like popcorn so V will have something called a prehensile tail and this basically means they can use their tail like a fif limb so it does mean it really helps them when they climbing and gives them that extra bit of support so you might be able to see Teddy when he's up in the beams like this he's actually wrapping his tail around the beams to give him that extra bit of P now one of the most interesting things about the Vinton is actually they're only one of two Carnival species that have a preh henar tail and the other one is actually the king kuk the lifespan of a binon in the world is around 18 years of age but unfortunately there are a number of threats going against them for they are actually classed as vulnerable in the world and one of the main ones unfortunately is us as humans so in particular through habitat destruction through loging but also the illegal pet trade as well and and also poaching for meat and sadly it doesn't end there they do have main Predators as well and those are actually the Tigers and the dolls so if you do happen to come to culture soon anytime soon then do pop to our binton enclosure and hopefully you'll be able to see our BS out and about if you don't do keep an eye out on our high be as our Bing right now and also on the big tree as well [Music]
