On this week episode,Happy Traveller in the queen of all the cities Happy Traveller in Constantinople ~ Intro song 'Pou Eisai' ~ Every trip starts when you book your tickets We book our tickets from the Greece's number one online travel agency Airline tickets and hotel We find the best prices and we're ready to leave! Hey,I'm Ft.We're on the plane and going to Constantinople We have one way ticket We will leave from Constantinople in another way You'll find out ... It's like a school lunch Cool! We're in the hotel room This is our room We're close to the Karaköy area If you know ...the areas of Constantinople. If you've traveled This is the Taksim Square It's the most famous square in Constantinople Not only because it's huge and has many famous hotels, but also because all political rallies and demonstrations begin from here The Taksim Square Park besides a fountain, also has benches that people relax on when there's a good day People also sit on the lawn, when there's a nice day Taksim Square has several flower shops You come here to get a little smell It's really cool The döner is an institution in Turkey Very classic. Huge gyros. You can find it everywhere There are two different meats that they use. The most white is from chicken and the other is from lamb It's neither beef nor pork. It's lamb The truth is that it has a weird smell and if you find the döner that looks like minced meat you might not like it Also you can't be sure of the quality of the meat So you better try the chicken If you want to try something hardcore take the lamb, which also has the weird smell In one corner of the Taksim Square, there are all the döner shops But there is a shop that you should definitely try the hamburger It's the most famous hamburger in Constantinople It's called Wet Burger * Explaining in Greek * The bread looks like it has absorbed a lot of liquid Let's taste it It's very tasty It was very nice and you should come to taste it Now,it's time to leave The Istiklal Street starts from the Taksim Square I believe that it's the most famous pedestrian street in the whole Europe It's the busiest road It's full of tourists This happens all day and night. There are countless shops and places to eat Let's take a stroll to explore ... everything! Istiklal used to be a road, cars were passing by But they made a smart move and turned it into a pedestrian street Only the tram is allowed to pass and the tourists can walk here all day long And at night! The only cars passing by are the patrols, trucks that supply the shops and... some stupid people that violate the Road Traffic Code and get a ticket Street food is an integral part of Constantinople There are many options but the 3 most often you'll find are corn, chestnut and * A saleswoman is shouting "kestane" * Kestane *means chestnut in Turkish* and round sesame bread *begel* The nice part is that all these trolleys have the same red color and maintain a beautiful environment in the city Restaurants generally throughout Constantinople have a vitrine Looks like it's a clothing store You can see the foods you can eat Whether it's a pastry shop or a restaurant with traditional food They have them here so that when you look at them from the outside, your appetite will open Every shop in Constantinople is famous for something So a good idea, if you want to try them all, is to know the specialties of each pastry shop For example, here they have the best Künefe in the whole world! Künefe It's the ultimate dessert with cheese in Turkey It's the oriental cheesecake Inside it has a cream of cheese while outside has kataifi and a wonderful syrup Pistachios *şamfıstığı* ,are sprinkled on top This dessert is eaten when it's hot It burns! It's one of the best things we ate here! Künefe Künefe at Saray It's the best in the world Constantinople has a lot of desserts that you have to try, when you get there For example they have excellent profiterole Of course we can't miss the famous syrup desserts All these are the reason that when you go to Constantinople you will necessarily get some pounds Hey!! Here's the fish bazaar, which has a lot of fish shops It also has many shops that cook fish There are also tourist shops and jewelry shops This imposing door that you see on your left hand as you descend the Istiklal Street, is the Galatasaray It's a University One of the most famous delicacies in Turkey is the lokum They are also called Turkish delight There's a great variety There are some simple and some with nuts Depending on the fruit they use, the colors are the same Very nice lokum But it's not as good as the lokum from Syros The most famous public transportation of Constantinople is the tram This tram operates a route from Taksim Square to Istiklal Street Many times they go up when the tram is in motion whlie some children try to hang on it I need to let the tram pass Bye This is where Istiklal ends and if we go a little further we will find the Galata Tower and a little further down the Galata Bridge This is the Galata Tower One of Constantinople's most iconic and beautiful buildings The surrounding square has many restaurants, cafes, stairs that people sit on The area is very touristy and has a lot of people all day long We have come to eat the best souvlaki These here Shish kebab from chicken, meat or liver There are 3 options The menu has a few things You can take them either as a portion or in a pita bread If you choose to eat a portion, they have some appetizers to accompany it You can eat them either as a sandwich or as an accompaniment The meat they have is excellent If you are in Constantinople you must eat here The nice part is that you are sitting at small tables Traditionally this meal is accompanied with ayran Ayrani It's time to eat Let's take a break and return shortly, don't go anywhere! The best part of the breakfast in Constantinople is the börek They're like the Greek bougatsa shops, you can eat pastries With cheese, potato, minced meat We will eat some The process is similar to the bougatsa shops The guy cuts into pieces the pastries in front of you In such stores, which are also very cheap, you will always get your fresh juice, coffee or tea Very cool! It was a very nice time We're finished with our breakfast Let's start our day!! Under the Galata Bridge, there are many fish shops with fresh fishes Seagulls sit on these awnings! They sit there and wait to eat something We're on the Galata Bridge It's the bridge which most people pass through, in Constantinople It unites two of the city's most touristy areas You can see the great view and the passing boats From here the Eminönü area starts Down there are the boats with the balık ekmek The fish sandwiches, let's go there We're in the Eminönü area At the edge of the Galata Bridge There's a lot of street food here Loukoumades, corn, chestnut and round sesame bread The most famous is the balık ekmek There are 3 boats here, that bake fish and put it in a sandwich with salad and serve them to the people It's called balik ekmek Fish-sandwich.Balik means fish and ekmek means bread Balik ekmek Fish sandwich The balik ekmek is usually eaten with pickle juice It contains pickle from cucumber and various vegetables You drink the juice and it's a little sour Underground passage with many shops There's a lot of people This is the Yeni Camii, one of the most famous mosque in Constantinople From here, we will start exploring the huge market of Constantinople We will not only meet the big bazaar and the spice market but we'll see in general the whole area that is full of tourist shops, restaurants and clothes shops This is the closed market for spices Except for spices, it has souvenirs and other foods But it is mainly known for spices When you come here, you want to buy all the spices! Of course the good news is that if you want to find great quality spices you don't have to come to Constantinople You can find them in the center of Athens On Evripidou Street, which is the 'temple' of spices They have everything from spices but at the same time they also have other special products Herbs, teas, drinks, ready-made mix for every recipe and exotic sauces from around the world In general you can find anything you want! There are always long queues here Even on Monday The reason is simple They have excellent quality and prices Great spices at the best prices on the market The staff is excellent and strives to ensure that all clients are served promptly This is our favorite spice shop in downtown Athens If you don't stay in Athens, they can delivery them to you anywhere in Greece You can find more info on their website But it's time to go back to Constantinople We came out of the spice market But the bazaar continues outside too There are countless shops everywhere Apart from the closed market, the whole area is a huge bazaar! There are many shops and I can say that this is the real Constantinople Taksim and Istiklal are more modern But here, you can really understand the city You feel like you're traveling back in time It's a huge market! Most of it is outdoors, except for a small part It has a total of 3,000 shops and 25 entrances Wow! Too many people It has food, clothes, gifts, everything! Very impressive! It's s the biggest... * A passerby says "Everything is a lie" * Is everything a lie? All of them... It's 125 times larger than Monastiraki Square There are 4.500 shops 38 entrances How many people pass by daily? We can't count it, they are countless Understood... Since when have you been here? I'm from Smyrna but I stay here I have been in this market for 38 years A whole life All these years, more and more people are coming? In recent years it has become a more touristy place, right? Nice Thank you very much What's your name; Kostas Mr Kostas Be well The hospitable Mr. Kostas offered to show us some places to eat We also went to a store with great products Exceptional Turkish delight, oriental teas and herbs Immediately afterwards we went to see his shop A shop with great leather clothes Too many colors! The space smells very nice Nice, mr Kostas... you have everything here! Coats, jackets, ... In all sizes Men's, women's clothing ... You have everything, right? If you come to Constantinople, come to Mr Kosta's shop to buy leather clothes Be well, bye! Thank you very much! Mr Kostas He's top! If you come here, go greet him and give him greetings from us If you also want some leather clothing, you can visit him Here are the tram lines From here, you can take the tram to go to Agia Sophia 2 tokens for the tram * Explaining in Greek * One token costs 4 liras, about 1 euro We are on a boat and ride the Bosporus It's the best way to see all the city of Constantinople and enjoy the sights We got off the boat We are in Eminönü, on the other side of the Galata Bridge Now, we'll explore how the area is at night! Night Constantinople, has a different magic We're now taking a break and return shortly for the rest of the episode Don't go anywhere! We're back in a little bit We're in the Topkapı,the sultan's palace Let's go The Topkapı existed before the fall of Constantinople and there are many places where you see Byzantine elements In its present form it came around the 16th to 17th century, where the most modern Ottoman buildings began to be built We saw the Topkapı and now it's time to eat the biscuit We brought it from Greece We always take them with us, they are very nice It's time to leave We are in one of the most tourist spots of Constantinople It has a magnificent fountain in the middle, Agia Sophia on the one hand and Blue Mosque on the other Many coaches park here to let tourists see the area We are in Agia Sophia, one of the most famous architectures in the world It's the symbol of Christianity It was converted into a mosque and now it's a museum Although few of the 9th century mosaics have survived, the imposing dome that reflects the light, the colonnades with carved capitals and details of green, white and pink marble cause awe! Only when you go upstairs, you realize how big Agia Sophia is The people below look like ants, like you're in a skyscraper This is the Blue Mosque It was built much later by Agia Sophia but it's much smaller in size The Blue Mosque is the only mosque with 6 minarets They say the reason is because it was a mistake They had asked to build a mosque with a gold minaret but the word "gold" in Turkish looks like the word "six" the architect was confused and he made six instead of one gold minaret We have to hold the shoes in our hands to get in Look at the contradiction On the one hand are the tourists who take pictures and on the other side are the faithful who pray Whether or not you have roots from Constantinople, this place creates feelings that no one else can Every time I have to leave from Constantinople, I am overwhelmed by this unprecedented awe I don't know if you have feel it I don't know if you have ever visited Constantinople But I hope I made you feel like I did Hoping to made you learn Constantinople a little more, one more Happy Traveller episode ends We look forward to your feedback on this episode and we hope you look forward to the next episode Until the next time be safe, many kisses and remember that the most important luggage on any trip is our good mood Bye!!
