welcome to hansa teutonica beginner strategy if you're not familiar with the rules then do check out the overview on the channel where else can we start but at gottingen and getting yourself that third action per turn that is always going to be your initial goal in a game of hansard tonica getting three actions per turn and it's a bit of a criticism of the game but the first few rounds can be a bit scripted if you are start player you're going to aim for three actions by turn two and at the end of turn two you use your new third action to put your merchant on the gutting and route at the end of your turn you don't want to leave the route to gottingham empty at the end of your turn early in the game if you do that the other players will be groaning perhaps inwardly but if you've done that believe me apart from the person sitting to your left everyone else they're upset don't let players get more actions easily early in this game what if you're starting last or fourth well then it's not so clear what to do but not in a good way it's really tricky i think that it's still going to be your goal to get that third action before you take income if you're last you start with more resources in your supply be prepared to use them to displace players on the gottingen route if i'm last then my first turn i will go somewhere else but by my second turn if there's an opportunity at gottingen then i'm willing to spend my extra supply from the setup to displace players and push through to get that third action if the route is totally jammed then there is another way you can get that third action before you take income and that is by getting the bonus token that clears resources off the board you won't complete gutting an until turn five this way but there's a lot less benefit for the other players and that act that player who got three actions by turn two you just hope that it's them that you're clearing off the board you want to be careful to have at least two resources on the board and one in your supply so you can start a turn using the bonus then first action place on the route second action move two resources to fill the route and make this happen before you take income beyond getting the third action you're trying to go for the yellow banner cities that other players aren't going for and you're trying to get in the way of the other players getting five income is often a priority for me it's usually enough for the whole game it's easier to get in the way of other players at the start of the game and so getting a merchant off the book early is good but be patient and leave them to get displaced somewhere getting more actions is of course great and privilege comes in handy sooner than you think more about that in a moment don't displace a player just to be displaced back uh i haven't done the math but i think you're just disadvantaging yourself and that other player relative to the other players a common beginner mistake is to keep going for the yellow banners when you should have already pivoted towards establishing offices to score points you need to start establishing offices sooner than you think you need to find a way to end the game when you're out in front it can happen that you're in the lead and you can't finish it and the other players aren't going to end the game for you so it can feel sometimes like like it reaches a bit of a stalemate so to avoid this you're going to want to have some control over at least one of the game end conditions and enhance it to tonica taking the last turn to finish the game is a big advantage now i have one more strategy tip for hansu teutonica and it's a cracker but you might actually consider it a spoiler it did take me quite a few games to realize this so you might cities in which you cannot easily be gazumped even when you establish an office there early and orange is sometimes enough there are even some white office spaces that fill a city you want to be going for small cities early on further to that you want to steal control of other players by filling cities steal control to stop players scoring lots of in-game points too you could even fill whole cities yourself i mean think about how that would cut through other players networks i know right really mean i'm a terrible person and yet here you are still watching i bet you want to play this game right
