Handgun Deer Hunting

while the lake gun season is winding out here in mid-michigan I'm in the CWD zone so I'm able to use any legal weapon during this muzzleloader season and I've been gone for the last week or so so I have not been able to hunt but I just checked my trail camera which is right down here beneath me about 30 yards and I've got deer all over it so deer are traveling this I've got a really good trail right in front of me I can see how the deer tracks in the snow so I'm really hoping that I get lay eyes on the one I'm looking for there's a big buck in here I saw him between the gun seasons and the Muslim our season I saw him while I was coming in here to set the stand and he was a really nice buck one that I would actually shoot this late in the season there's not many that I would shoot this late in the season but they're traveling within 30 yards of this tree stand it looks like I'm sure there's more traveling farther out but there's a lot of deer traveling really close to the stand so I've got my dad's old handgun I'm here it's a it's a blackhawk ruger blackhawk and it's a 44 mag one of my favorite gun stock when I've taken a doe in a really nice buck with it over the past couple years so hoping it brings me a little good luck today and uh hopefully a big one walks by one that maybe even one that I haven't seen yeah be pretty cool there's two box small and a bunch of dolls coming this way coming right down that trail at least right past me she's doubt that was cool literally cool I am my hands are freezing my body's fine but and my hands are freezing from having him out while I was dear we're making their way in it's the old 44 my dad's 44 took that deer at about oh she is probably only about 40 yards but I had to freehand her I had to put it you know just freehand it over that side I don't have anything to rest against over there oh that was cool she went right around and dropped right over there so she's I could see her from the tree just barely see her nice big doe we've been meaning to take some doze off this property I took one the other day with my other handgun ATC contender 44 and now he just shot that one with a with a super blackhawk 44 my dad saw a gun top for the to power Leopold scope on it it's a great gun man it shoots great put that right on her and put it right through her shoulder and I could see where an accident back here she's kind of quarrying to me but these deer over here were getting a little nervous one walked right underneath the tree stand so that's fun in the snow I love hunting in the snow in the cold [Music] I've got good blood coming all the way through here I'm shooting at 225 ft x Hornady bullet in a 44 mag and if you're wondering what I'll do use your answer right there look at that blood trail there's that go right down there big big dope I purposefully shot for a high shoulder shot to try to put this doe rate down and it uh it looks like it went right through our shoulder but it didn't put her right now and she ran about 50 or 60 hours and then tipped over but man that's a big dull we've been needing to take a bunch of those off this farm this is the second one I've taken in less than a week off of here with a handgun so it's been kind of fun to get the hand cannons out this is my dad's old 44 mag super black hawk one of my favorite guns to hunt with now the other day I took a deer a doe a big doe with a Thompson Center contender in a 44 mag as well and I'm shooting a 225 grain Hornady FTX bullet it's a tipped lever revolution bullet it's got a polymer tip on it and that thing shoots really good out of my handguns and it really puts a wall up on these deer I'm actually quite a ways back here in the woods so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna tag her I'm gonna gutter and then I'm gonna drag her out of here using my Rambo bike I drove it in here this morning that's right up the hill I'm gonna hook a hook a line up to her I'll drag her out with the bike you can't beat that you [Music]
