hi I'm Mukesh profits Koska I'm the base commander here at Halle station on the Bronte shelf I've been lucky enough this year to winter in this great new facility that we have and experience what it's like to truly live and work in the Antarctic we're going to get an opportunity to have a look around and see what it is that we do here and also the weather that we're into at the moment today it's minus 15 which is quite warm but at 30 knots of wind it can pinch your cheeks a little bit so it's been a great place to winter as I say and we're looking forward to the summer and some fresh new food hello this is the surgery here at Hawley being thousands of miles and a dangerous aeromedical evacuation away from the nearest hospital it's essential that we keep a well-equipped fully stocked surgery on hand for any possible medical emergency that might arise thankfully I haven't been kept too busy this winter but you never know what might happen clear here we are in the coms office which is a central point for all communications in and out of halle station it's quite important for us to be able to keep in touch with the outside world and also with things such as the aircraft when they come through the station I only wintering Data Manager and my job here on base is to build software for acquiring and processing and visualizing the science data coming in from all the different experiments we've got our radars we've got radiometers we've got a whole lot of different experiments I'm a meteorologist off hello station and we're now in upper observatory and on a very nice day we have a fantastic panoramic overview of the surroundings and a day like that where it's Stormin precipitation is north like being the submarine submerged in a jar of milk and but I'm still seeing all the data that comes together that's being gathered outside and this machine over there is definitely got some trees an old Honorable lady and she madras ozone please the spectrophotometer and she already was involved in discovering the ozone hole which occurs in springtime over the Antarctic which is now and we're still measuring it so the story isn't over what I'm doing additionally is launching the lose to sound the upper atmosphere and how this looks like in 50 knots wouldn't you may be interested in that hello I'm one of the science engineers here at Hawley six and I'm sitting right now in the electronic lab and this is the place where we try to fix maintain or further develop science instruments that are running here at Hawley six and we also try to work closely together with the scientists to further improve the data quality of the experiments I'm hearing II keep one with a Holley station on the polar on-base we have to look after all come from needs of not only the people working here but people loving here as well that means working 24/7 but that's what we're here for it's a good job you use many things here on base of sewage treatment one uses far less water than we have done how they v in fact it was one of the fact that wasn't being under consideration when designing a new station here we have our wintering generator mechanic and electrician currently servicing one of our four generators that we have here on station these are critical for us because they provide our life support and the collection of science days at the Halifax one of the great things about living in the tactic is of course they will get play in the kitchen as well so we can't go outside all of the time particularly when it's minus 50 it gets a bit cold but keeping first and healthy is quite important here particularly during the winter months so what's being built into this facility is a great germ which means that we can keep on top of our bodies all year round so from the winter to the summer months here at Halle six we'll go from 13 people right up to 52 and because of this it's important to ensure that the living spaces such as this pit room are as comfortable as possible for everyone that spends time down here just like at home it's really important to have a place that you can just relax and have some quiet time and what's been provided here at Halle six is a quiet room at the northern end of the station this means we can sit here read a book or just even gaze out the window right on the field assistance on station and such I am responsible for all everybody's safety Jenny when they travel off base and therefore I spend a lot of time living in a tent out in the field but equals well it's really nice to come back on station and use all the facilities the hot showers and enjoy all the comforts of living on such a nice station you
