HAL BLAINE talks about 'Mrs Robinson'

well once again I was so fortunate I mean I've been the luckiest drummer in the world in this case another incredible record of the year came along the grammy record of the year mrs. Robinson Simon Garfunkel now people wondered where does a name like Simon and Garfunkel come from we didn't really know that name you'd hear it once in a while on certain records but all of a sudden we're doing mrs. Rob and his to you mrs. Robinson great record and we did this record in New York Joe Osborn myself Larry Knechtel we were in the Columbia building Columbia Records building up on the sixth floor was one of the one of the great thrills of our life working with these kids and it turned out I Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel just brilliant brilliant entertainers we did concerts with them all over the world all over the country and a wonderful wonderful situation and their manager was a guy by the name of Mort Lewis and Mort Lewis was one of those personal managers he had managed oso many Earth Wind & Fire and the brothers for he was an amazing manager and if you had more Louis on your side you're going to make number one somehow somewhere because Mort was just the greatest and he's one of my dearest friends aside from record and song of the year that was also happy to be an Oscar for the Graduate that year and mrs. Robinson was that was the featured lady the wonderful actress who was married to Mel Brooks so Paul Simon absolute genius one of the nicest guys in the world played his beautiful guitar he used to tell us about the first time he went to England he had no one had ever heard of him and he was doing a single and he would was working in these pubs and they were clubs in those days of men's clubs and the din it was so noisy and you couldn't hear a thing and then the owner or the whoever was running the bar or the pub would come out and yell as loud as he could yell over the crowd shut up shut up and hopefully they had quiet down a little bit then he would introduce Paul Simon Paul Simon's doing he's a folk singer singing his things and people sometimes they went right back to the talking it was a tough time for Paul so he really paid his dues we came out to California did the movie the graduate and we did soundtrack etc etc and all of a sudden there was again record of the year Grammy record of the year Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel hey mrs. Robinson
