today I'm going to show you how to choose the right hairstyle for your face shape choosing the right hairstyle for mature women makes all the difference and as we get older our hair texture changes our skin changes we get wrinkles we get textured and if we can choose the right cut for the shape of our face everything looks in harmony so today I'm going to show you a few things one of them is how to get your exact face shape it's very simple once you've got your face shape I'll show you different images and show you how to apply a haircut to most enhance your face shape the third thing I'd like to do is show you how parting makes a huge difference so for me I part on the side and I'll tell you why I part on the side and I'm going to show you me with a part in the middle and a part on this side and hopefully you can get all this information and apply it to yourself and make some really good decisions based around your look your hair and your face okay let's get started you're going to need two things an eyeliner or a lip pencil and a mirror not a magnifying mirror just a normal mirror and you can look very closely in it and we're going to map out our face so look at your face in the mirror and get your face to a comfortable closeness to the mirror then you take the eyeliner and you draw little lines around all the edges of your face you'll be able to see in the mirror it's kind of like the eyeliners touching the side of your face so when you can do that just keep going all the way around without moving your face and when you'll finish the outline of your face and don't move at all take the center point between your eyes and Mark a dot on the mirror then take the center point where your nose is and make a dot on the mirror and take a center point where the chin is keep your face really still if you can then you go in and feel the jaw bone so the point of the jaw bone on one side market and then the point of the jawbone on the other side and market now pull your face away from the mirror and have a look at what you've got and if you've ever been confused about your face shape you're looking at it no confusion anymore because it's drawn in front of you now the lines down the middle that you've done just draw a line to join all those points for me the points aren't even because my face tilts this way to the left a little bit also on my face my jaw is uneven on either sides so on my left side my jaw is further down on my face and on my right side it's further up on my face and when I join the lines together you'll see I'm slightly off-center and that's what you call an asymmetric face now that you've got your face shape in front of you we're going to go through and look at the images and I'm going to show you the style cut that would suit your face best we'll start with an oval face first because the oval face is considered the most symmetrical perfect face not that it is that's just what the eye sees as in proportion the oval face will have the temples and the jawline around the same distance and then curving and an oval shape above and below this is the shape that all the others are trying to copy and if you do have that beautiful oval face you'll find that you can get away with the most different styles of hair you can wear it pull back on your face you can wear it layered like I can you can wear a straight fringe most of the styles will look really great on you the others that I'm going to go through we're going to try and get our faith into proportion with our hair for me I have a heart-shaped face so that means I'm wider up here than I am down here and if I wear all of my hair up and pull back I've got too much real estate up here and not enough down here and the way that I use my hair to balance that is by having layers around my face and it's filling in this part of my face and it takes away the shape and there lack of volume down here so I curl inwards to start with and that follows along my heart shape of my chin and I also have thickness and bulk and curl down here if you have a square face you'll feel very angular so the remedy for that is to add soft lines to your hair if you have too many angles in your haircut on a square face it looks very harsh and that would be like a dead straight fringe and straight sides and a straight bulb and if you finish the bob where your jawline is you are gonna look square and that's okay but if you want to soften that up add some layers and add some softness instead of a straight fringe that's emphasizing the angles you can go for a side fringe like I had so it's going to cut your face into a softer shape and then instead of a bob that goes straight across here at your jawline creating more square you can tape her it in if it's going to be a short bulb so you've got a longer bit at the front and you can keep it straight at the back or if it's longer make sure that it's layered around your face looks beautiful on square faces if your face is from round you're kind of lucky because your face doesn't wrinkle as much as everybody else's because it's more full and a full face is what we're all trying to achieve as we're getting older and in order to soften a round face and to make it more like an oval face you can do that with your head so you bring your head down into an oval shape so if your hair's long or short make sure that the front part is cut into layers to mimic and oval and you can wear a middle part if you've got a round face it looks beautiful on you just make sure that you've got some softness around your forehead and then come down into that oval if you have a diamond shaped face you'll find that the widest part of your face is here and it narrow in on your forward and in on your chin and even out that width it we add width at the bottom with our hair through layering through cutting in through color contrast and at the top we add an asymmetric fringe and that way you go from having an angled look to a softer look and if you feel like you've got an oval face but it's too long a great trick is to wear your hair on the side and that's what I do all the time because sometimes I feel my face is just too long so I pull everything to the side and then create volume around this part of my face and for you if you've got that longness here you create volume tears so it makes it look more in proportion and more in harmony with your face now if you'd like to experiment I'm going to show you by using the drawing that you've just done on your mirror and adding it all up you'll see the side of your face if you have one that is uneven for me you're going to notice that this is my uneven side this side is kind of longer and fuller than this side so what I do is I compensate by putting my side fringe on the opposite side so that's going to bring attention to this side of my face and soften this side of my face and when I wear my side ponytail I wear it on the side of my face that is longer so that's giving me bulk around here and filling it in and that looks a lot better on me than just having my hair pulled back like this and this does absolutely nothing for me because there's nothing going on around here where I need filling up but when I release it and put the hair back and create volume here my face looks so much better and softer and more in harmony and that's what we can do as we get older to create a more youthful look and be able to maintain that look as well once you know sort of the part in your face that needs emphasizing through hair you can just go to the hairdresser and ask them to cut it in for you and I think you'll be really happy now I'll show you my hair with different parts middle side and and you'll be able to see how I can really make a huge difference wearing my hair the way that I do okay this is me without any styling and I'm just going to show you what would happen if I was all straight that's what I would look like my face would be drawn down too much and if I just had my hair like that you can see here I need something right okay now if I part my hair in the middle you're gonna love this stop it look at my hair look on my face I have a completely different face with this because I don't have any symmetry to my face and when I put a straight line into the mix with me it looks terrible so anyway that's me I don't want to spend too much time here because it's making me freak out okay now if I put my part on this side I haven't stuff I haven't styled my hair of course but I'm showing you this is the side my part goes on which is making this side look fuller this is already the full along the side compared to this side and wearing it here doesn't make any sense at all it doesn't suit me at all and that's because there's too much going on this side of my face but when I wear it over this side I've balanced it out see this side just balances out the fullness and the unevenness of that side plus my nose and mouth everything goes in this way so if that's going this way and this is going this way I kind of look half normal so take a mirror and an eyeliner and start experimenting and if you're a fabulous woman over 50
