see on some conscience Nick Aquino de la is a famous French quote by the 16th century writer and thinker horribly and to me it summarizes what science is all about that had been working for 20 years on industrial applications of control and engineering and automation it was not entirely fulfilling I decided to change completely focus to biomedical engineering as a way to maximize the impact of my work this year my project is focus is on major deep depression right now patients need to come to a clinic sit by a very expensive piece of equipment many patients eventually the compliance drops as time goes by so I teamed up with dr. fidel Villa Rodriguez from the department of psychiatry to develop a system still focusing on control of the brain but through electrical means and that can be achieved through non-invasive way by placing electrodes on the scalp sending very low currents so that patients could go home with that system and use it at home and with the hope that we will increase the success rate for treatment for those patients we believe that innovations in technology have a tremendous potential in helping in our aim is essentially to develop equivalent devices to what we have here but about one hundredth of the cost good technology is not sufficient really successful scallop requires a truly multi-pronged a multidisciplinary approach it sort of brings me back to the peer or Institute which by its very nature is a multidisciplinary organization and I think the future of a lot of research and ever is truly multidisciplinary [Music]
