[Guitar Vlog] I played a weird guitar - ft. Adam Neely

[Music] we were already rolling so you got all of that on tape and you just continue have fun yes yes I mean with I'm not an immediate today we're discussing a very interesting thing it is a weird-looking guitar with a very weird-looking threats it is very strange it looks like spaghetti got on your guitar it's a Strandberg with true temperament threats yeah so when I first played this thing the other day it was kind of crazy because it very much feels like a normal guitar EJ looks very strange I think oh is it sounds nothing like a guitar it sounds very weird yeah the thing is if you just close your eyes and someone would give you a guitar I mean you feel like it's very light but it'll just play a chord in your life just it plays like any other guitar you don't feel weird quickly frets the thing about through temperament frets is that it adjusts for intonation errors on the neck of a regular guitar because how they decide where each fret has to go they do that by a math yeah they find the 12th root of 2 yeah exactly the 12th root of 2 which is about one point zero five and then some decimals that you can calculate because it's your video and you're gonna calculate them and yeah if I on the screen right now thank you yeah I know I have to do it okay so but the thing is that doesn't hold him into account the string thickness right the tension of the string so I believe they just listened very carefully when they play the guitar to how each note was affected and they made this so if the fret is a little bit more up the pitch of that note if you Fred it it sounds a little lower yeah Adam shall we compare the sounds of this guitar to that one let's let's do it let's main open G chord s first okay here's mine there's mine I think both how good both sound pretty pretty yeah yeah pretty soon there okay let's do a Bharti [Music] it's a little bit more of a difference but they had sound pretty pretty good there's no more Norrell through your sound yeah I'm more familiar with this sound to be honest but I still that didn't sound that weird okay let's try a different chord let's do D ode this sounds pretty weird for a D chord for D major this is what D should sound like [Music] little bit out it's a little out yeah yeah but I know that sound yeah that's where is it it's not just intonation it's not a different kind of tuning system yes still all equal temperament it's just we're used to the minor imperfections within equal temperament yeah yeah exactly yeah I think the guitar is an imperfect instrument within an imperfect tuning system that's pretty strange it's really strange and but we're used to it reduces yeah yeah so we played the over here but I think when you play higher up the neck with a regular guitar I think you're more bound to like maybe bend your hand a little bit and or maybe press a little bit weird [Music] that's good [Music] it's not so clear and so there's no dissonance [Music] it sounds like a guitar yeah this sounds like a guitar you [Music] when you take a look at these frets I'm seeing a big difference especially here at the fret 1 can we get a zoom in on that one you see fret 3 is way more down than fret 1 then string 1 and 2 a chord we could try for example is F [Music] yeah you can you can hear the beating and the beating is you know much more there's already going to be beating an equal temperament but especially on the guitar we're an equal temperament is a little squirrely to begin that sounds really weird I think it's the major third interval sometimes sounds really strange on that guitar it doesn't send well you're in [Music] I made a video about why did John Frusciante tune his guitar a lot of people said he said ones like hey man your guitars out of tune no problem I'll bend it in Shia I don't even care and I just play and you know I work with it and I think that's a really key tourist thing guitar sounds great [Music] okay should I buy his guitar leave your comments in the comment section thumbs up for yes/no thumbs down [Music] that's mojo yeah [Music] you [Music] yeah interesting whoa how did that happen that was cool can you play something what if it was like an upper register oh I have great one [Music] that's right it feels like I'm also missing something yeah [Music] like even but even before the vibrato there is still like a beating in there - how does bending works on the car like this I don't know since I'm not a very good guitar player I think I'm gonna have to do that magical thing again when we ask someone else to come in or no oh we're just gonna go like oh okay bending so bending is fine I mean it is a cool guitar haha it looks so futuristic it's very light mr. Andrew yeah yeah yeah these are grabby nor for you like for the longest time I thought about getting a bass with cheer temperament frets because their intonation on bass chords is sometimes very squirrely yeah but after playing this I'm not sure it almost starts from almost as too sterile place like it's strange but I can definitely see why people might like oh yeah yeah I mean his certain genres like maybe metal yeah I mean this would be probably like make a lot of sense I think for my own playing I wouldn't use it but I totally understand where where it comes from I love the innovation I love how it looks I'm not sure if I would enjoy it in the context of music making that I wouldn't I would play okay because it is it feels strange it does I'm so used to the idea of pitch being a warbly thing I'm not even sure if any of this will get across in the video - yes no I mean we have the amps in the back it's pretty loud so we feel the vibrations on our body that's a huge thing if you watch this on a smartphone it's just thank speaker I mean it would probably make it less different than the way we feel it yeah and especially that beating we actually feeling that a lot more and when isn't the beating it's like oh that's a where the very yeah it's just the air pressure moving differently yeah it's very interesting and because you know the sonic Li it's not that different it really isn't but it's just the air air moving in a different way in the room yeah it's strange it is strange is very cool yeah right anyway thank you so much mmm being on the show I love your videos sinking in I love yours thank you well thank you for watching guys and thanks dome on for having us it's great have a great day and links to Adam are in description I'm sure you all know who he is but check it out by base [Laughter]

Can you play guitar DW?

You know man, during my blogging hiatus I went out and bought me a couple cheap guitars, and pirated me a copy of Guitar Rig ...... and practiced my chords for months.

And it was a massive fail. I suck. Whatever part of the brain it takes to play guitar ..... I dont fuckin' have it.

I could practice till the day I die ...... and I will never get it right.

My brain just does not allow me any musical artistry whatsoever.

I'm an air guitar god ...... until it comes to actually making pleasant sounds with my hands. I cant press down chords without dragging my fingers ..... smooth Chord transition? It will never happen. Maintaining a rhythm? No fuckin way.

They are just wall art.

Keyboard ..... same shit.

Harmonica ...... will I always have a dip of snuff in my mouth anyway, so that gets ugly fast.

I think maybe I could play a percussion instrument ...... but who has room for that shit.

I'm just much much better at listening to music that I ever will be at producing any ..... thats gonna have to be good enough.
