Hello everyone! Welcome to another episode of TwoSet Violin! So recently, we asked you to submit videos of yourself playing an instrument. And being your favourite classical music experts... we thought we would play a game where we're trying to... pinpoint exactly how many years you have been learning your instrument. Whichever one of us gets it closer to the correct date wins a point. That's right. First one. Oh, I love the title. "Video For TwoSet." Thank you! Sorry, let me just process that. That's– To me, at least 5 already. - 5 years?
- At least. I think so. That can't be under 5. I gotta say... just the fast notes, they are... rhythmically and dynamically even and stable enough to show that he– to me, he's not just some like, rookie... - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- like... - type of thing, right?
- Yeah. Okay. Actually, first question. How old do you even think he is? - He looks...
- He looks quite young. Under 18, right? 16? I was gonna say. I'm gonna say at least... - I'm gonna–
- 7 years! I'll go 8. - Nice. Nice, nice!
- Nice! Alright, so Emily Shek playing the gu-zheng. Okay. Whoa! Was it like a... new skill, like, dynamic change? Yeah, I was like, "What?" Okay, I feel like 5 at least. So if Andy was 11 years, - then–
- This is at least 5. I'm gonna say... 10 then. Yeah, the body– I'm gonna say 10 at least. You can't guess the s– Alright, okay. - Oh, can I hear a bit more?
- Okay. Sorry, there's a ghost. - That's kinda nice!
- It could be. I know what this is! Emily's calling the ghost! Nah, okay, look... That's at least 12. - I'm gonna– Nah, I'm going 14.
- 12? - I'm going...
- 14! You ain't pranking me anymore, all of you. See? I told you! I didn't tell you. I'm like, "That's a lot more!" Alright. Oh, okay! Well, it says she's 11 years old, so... I actually know this piece. I don't. Fun fact, I learnt it when I played the cello. Once upon a time. Equal, equal. Yeah... Nice! Alright. Ooh... dude... - That was a good colour change as well.
- Mm! All in on 15. Let's go! We're all way off but I'm closer! Let's go! - Okay, look...
- Sounds good. Violinist– To be fair, there were not violinists yet until now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel the violinist is at least... 16 years, right? - I wanna listen a bit more. I'll play, yeah?
- Okay, okay, okay. Pretty good double stops, too. Good articulation as well. - Yeah, it went to 10 straight away for me, for both of them.
- Yeah. And the intonation is pretty good, too. I'm gonna say 17 for the guy. And for viola, she probably started on the violin first, then switched to viola... - All the violists–
- 10 for the viola. See? I told you! 'Cause she started on the violin, man! This is rigged! All violists, especially the ones that sound good like she did, started on the violin! Okay. But they got frets, so it's different. If I had to play that on the violin, how many years... - But then they have frets.
- Yeah, so... I'm gonna say... Actually no. I'm gonna guess... Dude, you're just waiting for me, dude! Alright. We forgot... Okay! Gomennasai! The professional is like... "Noobs!" "You don't even know how hard it..." Damn! - 35– No, I was joking!
- 35 years! No way! I don't wanna play this game anymore. Dude, I'm depressed. - How old does she even look, man? Like, 16?
- Judging by age. Yeah. You can start when you're 5. Actually, when do people start– Let's go! - Alright, oh, another violin... Let's go.
- Okay, violin, okay, come on... Ooh, okay but "self taught." Brett: "And have only been practicing this song for three days." Okay, that's different. That's different. Mind games now. What is the meaning of life? You really got us, Kira. Okay, this could be a prank for all I know right now. Yeah, it could be like 35 years. Setup is very good for someone self-taught. - Yeah, the left hand is also very clean.
- Yeah. I'm gonna say 15. You're trolling us. I'm gonna say... Okay. Nah... Nah... Nah, nah, nah... "Geniuses are born, not created." Sometimes in life, it's not fair. - It doesn't matter.
- No way! No– No, I– Nah– No way! That's really impressive. Wow! That left hand looked really good. Well done, Kira. Next one. - Okay.
- Okay, no. - But I gotta say though...
- Yeah. They're all Asian. So that's a different factor. They're in an Asian music school. They're all Ling Lings. - Better keep that factor in mind, dude.
- Okay, so I'm gonna lower my years a bit. I'll say 15, but that's crazy. - That's pretty good for 15 years.
- I think more than 15. Lock it in. 17 sounds about right, but I'm gonna try 16.
- 17.5. I told you, bro! They're all Asians! They're all Asians! Dude, I don't know what they put in their rice there, man. It's like... Oh, viola! Ooh... Oh, you're good! You're good. And viola shifting that high, at least 15 years. Violist playing that good... is probably not a violist. So I'll say 6 months. You're violinist, I bet! You're not a violist, are you? Okay, fair enough. Okay... Y O U ' R E N O T A V I O L I S T , A R E Y O U ? I mean... Yeah, see? You sound very good. I just thought you were a violinist. Yeah! Nice. Alright. Ooh, harp! Interesting. Ooh, nice hoodie as well! I don't know how long– how hard harp is. But we've tried it, it seemed very... What's the actual– Okay, so that was a bit slow. - But I feel like harp is so hard, you know?
- It is. It's all over the place, yeah. I'm guessing 5. - I was thinking 5.
- Okay. - I'll guess 6 then.
- Okay. But I have no idea. Damn! - Really?!
- They're all blessed with Ling Ling talent. This can't be helped. You know what? I think anyone that's been thinking of learning an instrument... but you've been putting it off, just know how much you can achieve in 28 days and 2 years. Yeah! Yeah! And then, when you hit 20 years, you're like that gu-zheng master. - Like, can turn our lights off from through the freaking laptop.
- Yeah. Or that guitar player. Alright, few more. Nice posture. Nice, she nailed it! Hit the top A. Okay, okay. She's got the vibrato. - Fun fact, I've played this piece before. I love it.
- Same. - I think Grade 8.
- Grade 8. If it was Grade 8, then I reckon... 8, 10 years. Maybe more. 8 years! Yeah, I say 10. Okay. I hate this game. No way! That's actually really good for 5 years. Wow! What is this piece again? Is it like a Suzuki book type of thing? I think so. 4 years. 4 years, yeah. Ah, I knew it! See? - He's making a good sound.
- Of course! Our channel is all about practice! All of you submit– TwoSetters and Ling Ling wannabes all practise! Okay, okay, we gotta recalibrate. - Recalibrate.
- Okay, okay. No way... Ain't no way! How is her double stops more clean and in tune - than me on the violin on an ocarina?!
- Okay... I'm going– trying to go– I have to work backwards. How old does she look? - Dude, she's Asian. You can't tell.
- "Chao Yang..." She could be 16 or 36. You can't tell. I don't know the difficulty of the instrument. - The ocarina...
- I reckon... I'm going for 12. Oh, I was thinking 12, too! Alright, I'll go for 13. I'm just gonna go up. - I'll go 12 'cause she's Asian.
- Okay. And she's like, "I'm too busy with school to practise 'cause I'm studying as well." I'm out! I AM OUT! - Oh!
- Oh! Double bass. I've met a lot of great double bassists in my life, and... they're all pretty good. - And they don't start that young, right?
- They don't start that young, so the years are normally shorter to learn the instrument. I'm going with 10. But if it's like 20, I'm not even surprised. You don't even look 20! SASSY!! Please give me some of the Ling Ling power... You guys are the most talented people in the world, I forgot. I'm so sorry. I take it back. Fine. I'm gonna go practise. Thank you for reminding us to practise. Comes right back at us. So all of you that are watching this today, remember... you have to practise! There's no shortcuts in life.
