[Music] hello plant growers in today's video i'm sharing with you my recent growing of brussels sprouts in containers i'm growing mines on balcony so if you don't have a garden this might be the way for you to try something new and even if you have a garden you can still grow plants in containers like i do brussels sprouts is a cool season crop so the best time for planting it is in early spring or you can also start it in late summer for late fall or early winter harvest i pre-grew these plants indoors and it took them two weeks to emerge from the soil and next three weeks to reach this size when it comes to soil like other cabbage family plants brussels sprouts grow well in slightly clay soil due to its higher moisture retention use potting mix which is a humus rich and slightly clay i'm using garden compost mixed with garden soil and a small portion of forest soil the size of containers should be at least 15 to 20 liters or even more for bigger plants i'm using just 10 liter size pots because that's me i want to find out if they are capable of any solid production in small place if you live in warmer area i suggest you use clay pots as they remain cool and provide good air circulation when the transplanting is done it's time to find these plants a sunny location if you live in warmer climate keep these plants in a partial shade spot [Music] brussels sprouts need evenly moist soil so water them regularly these plants are also heavy feeders so you should fertilize them regularly too especially when grown in containers i use nettle fertilizer and as they grow bigger i mix it with chicken manure fertilizer for more balanced nutrient content [Music] they were growing very well until i spotted holes in their leaves and i found caterpillars feasting on my plants i didn't use any pesticides and decided to pick them manually [Music] it takes these plants roughly three months to produce decent yield harvest the sprouts from the bottom as they mature earlier than the top ones when they are two to four centimeters in diameter firm and green it's time to pick them i'm harvesting mines almost 4 months after transplanting there are signs of boron deficiency but that's not a big deal because i'm harvesting all their sprouts soon if it happened earlier i would have used fertilizer with boron [Music] so [Music] i'm okay with final result of growing them in 10 liter size pots and this is a proof that you don't need a lot of space to grow some vegetables on your own even on balcony thank you very much for watching i hope you've enjoyed the video hit that like button and subscribe for youtube algorithm it helps a lot share the video with your friends and stay tuned because more videos are on the way see you soon [Music] you
