Green Acres Filming Location

get in the car we're going to Hooterville no not Hooters Hooterville the small town from Green Acres I'm gonna take you to a little slice of that town let's go [Music] [Music] unlike Oliver and Lisa Douglas who let the big city Manhattan New York City for the small town of Green Acres I'm currently driving through a small California town and we're gonna drive about an hour and a half South to another small California town foreign this location as far as I'm aware has never been documented on YouTube I actually stumbled upon it by looking for something else so we're going into Uncharted Territory [Music] [Music] we made it to Hooterville this is The Farmhouse that you see at the beginning of every episode to Green Acres [Music] unfortunately this home is located on a pretty busy street and the owner's two dogs want to kill me so I can't get too close but if we get in the car we can recreate the very first thing you see in Green Acres [Music] thank you foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] I bet you never thought you'd Fly Over The Farmhouse from Green Acres yeah me neither [Music] it still looks very much the same the telephone pole is still there the tree's still there it looks like they've added a deck and it looks like they've extended the roof a bit and this isn't just some random home in the pilot episode when Mr Douglas brings his wife Lisa out to Hooterville he points to the house and he says that that is new Kylie's place isn't this beautiful country that's new Kylie's place over there he Farms 80 acres so the house has an owner Newt Kylie he Farms 80 acres yeah it looks about 80 acres not quite green the character of Newt Kylie originated on the show Petticoat Junction Green Acres was a spin-off of that show Petticoat Junction which came out a few years before it now both shows shared some characters and both shows took place in the fictional town of Hooterville okay now I see where the town got its name from [Music] the character of new Kylie appeared in 26 Green Acres episodes and 17 episodes of Petticoat Junction and that's his house right back there gentlemen why are we gathered here tonight that's what I want to know we're missing Gomer Pyle in 1968 characters from the show The Beverly Hillbillies started interacting with characters from Green Acres and Petticoat Junction creating the first true Multiverse you've blessed us with some wonderful new friend Carson to Drucker Ms Douglas mighty fine bunch of young folks move over MCU Petticoat Junction Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies did it first [Music] explaining why we're missing Gomer Pyle [Music] we're missing Gomer Pyle CBS sure was good at marketing their own shows pretty genius marketing if you think about it in that pilot episode Oliver Douglas also points out Ben Miller's home that's Ben Miller's up there goes apples now to me this stock footage looks like it was shot on the same day as the new Kylie home the lighting looks the same the colors look the same so if you're facing new Kylie's home and you spin around there is now a posh gated community but just beyond the gates is a windmill that looks awfully similar to the windmill on Ben Miller's property even this old tree looks similar to some of the trees out here now the house is gone but this could have been where they got the stock footage of Ben Miller's home I have no way of knowing but I think it's a pretty good guess [Music] thank you [Music] foreign I try to put myself in the mind of the cameraman or the person who's getting b-roll that day or getting stock footage you usually try to get as much as you can around you you don't want to travel too far so to me it makes sense that whoever got that stock footage first got a shot that home across the street and then they turned around and got a shot of the home over here which is now gone new Kylie and Ben Miller well fellas uh the committee has gone over your application and we are raising your allotment for this year you are allowed to grow 10 percent more wheat than you did last year oh it's pretty amazing to think that the first two seconds of all 170 episodes of Green Acres start off with a shot of this house [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] now I'm no Greenacres expert but it's a show that I found hilarious I love The Surreal humor and it just cracked me up it was those kind of shows where like you never know when it's on or where it's on but if you're home alone sick and you're scrolling through the channels you might find it and you start watching it it's one of those type of shows to me but I love it you sure look pretty Miss Douglas why thank you oh I wish my wife looked that pretty in the morning or in the afternoon or in the evening or in the summer
