Great Local Eats NOT in Waikiki

foreign so they have chili pepper water over here too and how many places can you get shave ice or soluble and get a bikini at the same place yes I can't think of any right now [Music] good afternoon everybody we are gonna do some eats outside of the Waikiki Honolulu area yes this is almost trip eats Honolulu Style hi baby off strip eat sir Honolulu style yes you know just in case you know a lot of people get burned out as far as all the eats inside Waikiki yes which there are a lot of good ones yes but so you know those that are curious and want to venture out these are some places that we're gonna try out yeah you can head up um we've gotten a lot of recommendations from a lot of locals that's right yeah yeah um I got them on Facebook he gets them in YouTube yes all these different ones and so we're gonna hit up a few of these places right and we're going to start at roast duck kitchen yeah we're here we're here yep good crispy skin pork we'll see let's see what they got yeah foreign so in the meats that you see hanging it's either a half or a whole duck that's the only way they sell it and the minimum they sell the roast pork and the cashew are half pound so we got a half pound of the Rose pork half pound of cashew and the roast duck plate which is the combo so we're just waiting for it to be served up and you said you saw some ginger chicken and ginger chicken was there it was calling me but I didn't get it this time next time next time so these are the two meats that you can only order minimum half pound so we got the roast pork crispy screen roast pork and that chashu yeah so that's what a half pound looks like this is a half pound yep and then what's nice is in the Rose Park they sell dishes that they were saying it's a little bit less than a pound perfect size this place we're local I'd be there almost like once a week maybe it's kind of dangerous right very dangerous and so we're going to go ahead and try this stuff out that looks really good look at this chashu this sauce right here is all over it it's even still dripping and you can hear them chopping it in the background total reminds me of total Chinese Kitchen of that chopping sound let's try this out mm-hmm oh the chef's kiss wow this is a good shot shoe these are really cooked well Great Taste perfect amount of fat and perfect amount of of meat in here my best pieces are the ones that are truly charred this one I didn't get any charred pieces but I can live with that these are absolutely delicious now I'm gonna go ahead and try this roast pork of course it's all about the skin there's a skin right there it's a good ratio that's sweet and fat as well yes and it's the juice that's stripping is from the chashu so let's go ahead and try this out that place is so tender not dry at all has a perfect ratio of the fat and the meat this crunchiness of the skin is there the one I had even though this is just glorious is I believe the seasoning depending upon where you get the seasoning it was just a tad bit salty let me try the one without the any of them all the the sauce of the Trashy was just leaking all over the place let me see if this one this skin is a little salty nope skin is perfect on this one that's what it tells me is when they season this Rose pork they it's nothing that is Pat down it's just one that you just put on the seasoning wherever the seasoning catches that's where the seasoning is this is not salty at all this is again juicy tender oh yeah this is delicious half a pound we have a lot of other food to eat but I have a feeling this is going to be gone baby now you know I I don't want to put another restaurant on the spot but just for comparison sake how does Nam Fong in Chinatown compare with this Nam Fong I believe the skin was crispier in nam Fung it was very good the flavoring of the meat was there but what I like about this one because sometimes when you get them total crispiness of that skin you're just chewing it and chewing at the crispy part chewing it that's what Nam Fang really good nice crispy choo choo choo this one you can bite through it it is really easy you can hear that crunchiness as you're chewing the meat does that make sense yeah yeah so it breaks down a lot easier it breaks down a lot easier yeah I know that you guys people who've eaten roast pork they've gotten those thick skins that you just chew and chew even though it's good you're just chewing and chewing away after this one it's no effort at all this is delicious are you ready to hear some choir check this out [Music] yeah I can hear the loud and clear this is their real stuck that's the name of the place so we could only expect the best right so let's try this out this is their lunch combo so it does come with the uh the choice of meat on the bed of cabbage and two scoops of steamed rice they offer what fried rice as well yes fried rice as well okay so um let me just try this without the sauce here we go extremely tender duck usually is a little bit on the early side and this is no exception it is nice roasted duck flavor let me dip it into this sauce mmm a little sweet marinade I can't put my finger on it but it is on the sweet side this is great look how much stock you get like two rows in there oh yeah big pieces too look at that plus you get a little egg roll they call that a galji we've never heard of galji before oh really so open it up and see what it is yeah let me think about it um it's like ground pork meat in the inside yeah it's like a wonton very crispy one time this is really good so if anybody sees gaugey it's just like a one ton with ground pork yeah this is a great balance uh lunch you know this kind of reminds me of what the cabbage and the meat and potato and the potatoes with the rice is Waffle number one New York City New York City yeah Lower East Side uh next time we go to New York we're gonna hit that spot up but this is what it reminds me of it's a great combination lunch at a great price made it to our second spot yes only about 5-10 minutes away from ayable or where a rose stuck kitchen is yes is kiosk kitchen now we're here we're here again from the locals that this has amazing nachos poke nacho poke nachos and this happens to be I believe like a half Mexican food restaurant as well yeah so but we are here for the uh we can't wait to try it out let's go this is one one order we ordered the Kamikaze nachos which is aji in a special sauce oh my goodness over wonton chips over wonton chips we're gonna you have to share this it looks like for four people yeah look at the size of that it is it's just a massive so we're going to go ahead and try this out let's see it's get a really good Sauced up one here we go good wonton chip get some of that whole day on here here we go look at that oh yeah um [Music] I think these wonton chips are just a teeny bit stale but they are still crunchy enough for this okay the sauce is a little bit on the spicy side and with the onion oh yeah that is good oh look at that piece right there that's a good one [Music] that poke is delicious and there is a little bit of spice like almost like a spice aioli at the same time that Glazer to put on is sweet so it's like a sweet and a tiny bit spicy glaze on it and I don't know if you had a if you had a bad chance but this one Township is fresh and crunchy and crispy it's not still at all this one so you gotta try another piece because um that may have been an anomaly or something foreign it's like a ridiculous amount wow delicious let's try this one again with wonton Chips please really inexpensive just fry them up have your bowl game delicious oh yeah and I love that sauce that's on it like I feel a little heat on my tongue but it's a good kind of heat those were some great Pokemon gosh it was delicious yeah it was delicious we almost finished it almost yeah perfect if you had three or four people and everybody has something to share yes it's shareable for sure yes and the heat there was a slight Heat and the heat never built up too much where we couldn't eat it it was just a very steady heat which is really nice but if you are sensitive to uh spiciness at all yes they just get the regular Ahi yeah don't get the Kamikaze one they have the regular soy yeah sure so uh you know I think we're gonna try to look for a shaved ice cream yeah see I'm in the mood for a shave ice cream I think so right because we have a couple more things to hit up so I think this will be a nice break yes let's go we're at the kainalu surf shop yes in Waianae and Waianae right next door is actually an l l which is kind of cool which is over here baby yeah it is yeah the tree yeah what was unique about this Surf Shop is not only do they sell surfboards and surf stuff a whole bunch of food yeah they do uh Pokeballs and shave ice and ice cream so that's what we're gonna get yes one of the guys that said they have poke nachos even though we already had it you know but they do offer yeah we gotta try it out yeah let's go inside all right luckily made ice cream let's go [Music] I can't believe uh yeah it just stuff had some stuff can I have a large with Macadamia ice cream [Music] you're out of the map this is a large kind Shave Ice we got the rainbow which is usually the the blueberry what is it uh I think maybe pineapple pineapple and strawberry yeah we have the little mochi balls and we have a jalapia which is coconut ice cream right in the middle so with this we're going to try that here you go shave ice with some condensed milk AKA snow cap oh wow this is really good this shape ice is so fine it really melts in your mouth even though we're still a little full from lunch there's you can there's always room for Shave Ice you can always fit this in try this out oh yeah as soon as I dig my little wooden spoon through here you can just see the soft consistency look at that yeah it is soft as light snow yep it really turns into water almost as soon as it goes into your mouth tastes very good I kind of said this is like better than matsumoto's then we're fighting words in the North Shore you know so yeah you gotta be careful but you will not be disappointed if you stop at the surf shop for this Shave Ice it is very good see if we can get the ice cream in the middle bit yeah if you're the um you know there's different kind of Shave Ice as far as the consistency some are very light and snow like this some have a little bit more texture a little bit more ice to it so if you're a fan of the one that just just melts in your mouth this is it for you it's going to take some digging if I get the ice cream but we'll find it we found the ice cream there it is it's in the epicenter of this shaver and they gave you a few Scoops because he found it on this and I found it on my end so they give you a good two or three scoops of ice cream in there of course this is the coconut or jalapia ice cream locally made very smooth this is delicious in fact it's kind of funny because this is our first Shave Ice of this trip right we didn't want to go on we didn't want to get to the one at the Aulani because we thought the Aulani one was a little bit icy it's very icy it's um it's probably as distant as traditional as you could probably get it does look cool with the Mickey ears though that's about it we had to go outside to get some authentic shave ice this is delicious it is we're down to the bottom of the mixture put in the comments and tell me if you like it Blended together I know it looks like a hot mess but you know it's delicious it is all we need is a straw so I'm gonna have to go inside and see if they have one yeah or just take it this way babe old school oh please don't spill any it kind of matches your top though it does it is Heroes we are here at the final off strip yes yes off strip yes eat yes yes so we couldn't decide we were gonna go to shiges which is known for the assignment but we also had Shiro's and the only reason why we picture those because it's closer yeah both of them are awesome though right we went the Aloha swap meet we did and this is just a shorter location it is but it's really they equally get high reviews yes highly respected in the community for local salmon yes yes so we have to go Simon and probably something else my baby cheeseburger or something of course Terry stick right so here we are she was let's go here is their menu pretty good size menu they have 64 different combinations of how you can get your assignment not all of them come with noodles so ask and to make sure if everything comes with noodles and they can make their noodles every single day which is pretty cool they also do their burgers where's their burgers they also do their burgers and they hand do their burgers every single day that's me because I had to try one you have to you have to try it babe so we placed our order now we're just going to be waiting for our food yeah and we're lucky because it's 12 noon and it's not that crowded not too bad I have a feeling you're gonna get there looking at some fans over there oh funny you know the place was legit when they have aloha show you and hot mustard next to each other so they're known for their Terry sticks with the Simon but the cherries they came out first so I'm gonna go ahead it's my teriyaki beef stick um nice charm on the beef stick really good really Sauced up good sauces it is the Cherry sauce not extremely sweet cherry sauce the way that this is done reminds me back in the days and when we used to skewer all right Terry sticks huh baby yeah back in the days when I was younger we used to skew her cherry sticks just like this and put them on the grill actually reminds me of there's certain signs you have to get with your assignment which are like mandatory one of them is that beef Cherry stick that you got and the other one of course is a cheeseburger this one came with fries they didn't have all the carpet it's okay nice toasty bun all that nice and simple with ketchup beef patty American cheese some mayonnaise and lettuce it's perfect right and try this out even though I didn't have my same medium [Music] that's a good burger it's perfect size too like a lot bigger than the slider but definitely a little bit smaller than your traditional quarter pound burgers and such yeah this is very good I think it's going to match my my noodles perfectly there we go there is my soy get some soy in there squeeze some hot mustard that's gonna be for my one ton yeah they stick together there you go that's that's perfect for uh for dipping there dipping for my wontons that are in my Simon too bad you don't have any uh forecast that's delicious I think I need a little bit more hot mustard okay I'm ready you're so extreme baby oh thank you we have the wonton mint so I have my wontons in here look at this is like spam right here it has some Joshua in there some Negi or onions and the noodles let's go ahead and first try out and oh yeah and the Egg let's go first try out the Dashi or the soup oh that's a good flavor soup not salty at all it's a very good let me see if I can explain it to you it's a very good brothy type soup it's not like a like a maybe more of a vegetable broth it's not much of like a a meat broth like a like a beef broth or a chicken broth it's delicious perfect amount of saltiness so maybe like a soy maybe like a soy fry let me go ahead and try out these new newts let me add these noodles look at that that just looks glorious [Music] great bounce to these noodles oh yeah Gray Fountain of these noodles they've freshly done not overcooked at all and the chashu oh yeah this is absolutely delicious I'm glad we came here here's the one ton that is in my noodles for this round come on good work in there that noodle is really nice soft I'm gonna go ahead and now dip it in my mixture [Music] how semester could become really hot so use it sparingly but if you're bold this hot mustard is delicious it really goes with this Simon and with these wontons oh yeah I the way that the mustard is now it's very mild I can definitely get my noodles get my noodles into this mustard and then delicious you had to try it that way baby how many one uh one pounds did they give you somewhere a lot one two three four I just ate one five five and this is um I don't I don't know if it's a small or medium Bowl it's probably medium because I got a medium it's the same size it's a medium ball um I got the old-fashioned Simon which is the original which is number two you can see it on the menu over here here it is just like yours it comes with the spam the chowshu egg green onions let me try out the broth maybe you can explain it better babe the perfect Simon wrap how's that is it like a soy well you know what I I think they use a little bit of a like like vanilla Flakes with the the regular Dashi which uses Bonita and some other scenes to these I'm not entirely sure but it is different than a typical Ramen type of raw so so don't expect the ramen broth taste when you get salmon it's a little bit different but it's delicious and then try out the noodles and they give you a lot of noodles too yeah they didn't uh they didn't go cheap on you eat pasta you could tell the difference between freshly made and ones that are pre-packaged or freeze dry type of noodles these have the perfect amount of chew and bounce they are delicious and you already taste it like the chashu and you said it was good try some of the uh the spammy noodle yeah everything matches so really the only difference between this one and yours are the wontons they're similarly built and it's delicious even the egg real thin slice this is a great lunch and it matches with my cheeseburger it's almost like bread and butter salmon and cheeseburger or a cherry stick delicious two thumbs up one for each one Shiro's was amazing delicious it was very light meal hi baby it was a little heavy when you're here in the area definitely check out heroes yes yes can get crowded because when we left there's some people waiting outside yes and they have a second area where everybody can sip I think we came at the perfect time people were kind of rolling in around 12 30 1 o'clock right now yes it was like a second part of the dining room which which you know you can't see unless you're near the castle now uh you know along the same strip mall there's a shave ice place yes so we're gonna go try it out it is Baldwins right here right behind me sweet chop Alduin Sweet Shop never heard of it sounds good it sounds good yep we've ordered our shave ice when you do Shave Ice you order on the outside or they have a small shop Crack Seed shop where you can go look inside yeah and uh the prices they have about four different sizes yes and you can see the flavors that they have right here a lot of flavors as far as the add-ons which are Zuki beans we got snow cap which is condensed milk on top with vanilla ice cream in the middle oh yeah so uh they're making it and we're waiting now first time getting shaved ice in a in a cup big cup this is the large again we got a rainbow condensed milk and ice cream here we go oh wow that looks very shaved oh yeah go ahead and dig some of this in yeah when I saw the uh the four sizes and prices I didn't know they're really going to put in the cups yeah exactly let's go ahead and try this out mmm very good very sweet very vanilla which is really nice this one has a little bit more a little bit more consistency to it is it consistency or a good name as yesterday when you put it on your tongue The Shave Ice that we had the other day when you put on your tongue it completely melted this one's a you can chew it a bit but it's not icy mm-hmm the flavor really comes out and it I'll see if we can get some ice cream in here yeah you could hear a little bit more uh more of a ice consistency really in there look at that blue um this is delicious try this out baby yeah all right let's check this out did you get to the ice cream no it's somewhere in the center it's deep boys deep oh look at that color it's beautiful yeah so we got the uh the rainbow just like we did at the other place yeah I love this kind of shave ice too remember the on the last place I was telling you this ones that are like very fine snow which I just really literally melt in your mouth this one is I guess more thicker granular ice in it and this lets you know that you are eating shaved ice the other one's almost like snow yeah it works a little bit more thick yeah versus the same snow right this is delicious it is I you know what I kind of like both of these equally whether it's that's dough or ice it's delicious this was the perfect Capper after our delicious Simon lunch so we're going to enjoy this then we'll be back to close it off that is a wrap for Off the Strip away from Waikiki area yeah so yeah we encourage you to you know visit all these places yes yes they're all locally owned everybody's all locally owned which is really nice thank you so much for our Ohana who gave you all gave us all these suggestions that's right about where to go on this trip
