foreign [Applause] [Music] foreign foreign it's been a busy weekend for Indian diplomats a TV debate turned into a social media storm and then an international story West Asian countries took offense to comments by spokespersons of India's ruling party the party promptly suspended them the government called them Fringe the argument did not fly diplomats were summoned hashtags began trending social media was split on who was at fault summer slammed the government for accommodating West Asian countries others have slammed it for acting too late either way New Delhi has made them party to domestic Indian politics and that has not stopped the statements by the way the organization of Islamic countries has jumped in they want to take the matter to the United Nations now and while they're at it we're waiting to see if they take up the cause of China as Muslims too because there the story has gone Way Beyond distasteful comments they have been persecuted when Qatar Kuwait and Saudi Arabia take up their flight and reform on China we shall be the first to report it on the show tonight we'll discuss the hypocrisy of the gulf and India's response also on the show William ran Khan be arrested the ruling party of Pakistan is threatening it Imran Khan's party is warning of consequences as the people of Pakistan hit the streets protesting a massive hike in fuel prices is Boris Johnson on his way out the no trust vote will be held in the UK Parliament today when the Prime Minister survive it we'll discuss his chances no such varies for Xi Jinping but he too is on weak footing zero covet is hurting the Chinese president and eroding his authority and America has the most absurd solution to gun Terror in schools some states want to arm teachers with guns we'll discuss all of that but first the cover story tonight they say every controversy has two sides one side is right the other is wrong there is no gray area in between well not in this case this is a story where all sides are wrong some more than others but wrong nonetheless let's start with the recap the date is May 26 2022 BJP spokesperson nupur Sharma attended a television debate on this debate she made some communal remarks she targeted and insulted Prophet Muhammad remember this is May 26th since then the controversy has been brewing the remarks went viral on social media and pretty soon things got ugly sentiments were hurt death threats were issued and police cases were filed now right at the outset let me say this the comments are indefensible they were unnecessary and provocative but so were the death threats on social media and two wrongs do not make a right technically the police did file Firs which means the law was taking its course having said that one thing was missing and that was political action in such cases legal accountability is not enough you need political accountability on Sunday that finally happened the spokesperson was suspended from The Party The Party janatha Party another leader Naveen Kumar Jindal was also expelled he was expelled in fact she was suspended both for the same reason the party released a clarification soon after this is what it said the bhartiya janatha party respects all religions the BJP strongly denounces insults of any religious personalities of any religion but one question Still Remains the incident happened on May 26th action was taken almost 10 days later what explains this timing because this weekend it became an international issue Arab states took notice of this controversy one by one they registered their protests first was Qatar they summoned the Indian Envoy they handed over an official protest they demanded a public apology from the government of India Kuwait and Iran did the same other countries like Saudi Arabia Egypt and Oman also condemned the remarks but they did not summon Indian envoys in Kuwait things went further look at these pictures these are Indian Goods being removed from supermarkets spices food grains all sorts of Indian Commodities were taken off the shelves now this is an unofficial boycott it was not announced by the Kuwait government it should be a warning sign though Gulf States have a history of embargoes and boycotts if that happens India has a lot to lose India's trade with Gulf is 87 billion dollars around eight and a half million Indians work in West Asia but we are not concerned about the economics because that is a two-way relationship if India needs the gulf the gulf also needs India we are concerned about the politics this controversy was brewing for 10 days some Indian citizens were criticizing it Indian police officials were investigating it but political action came after International backlash and that is not a good look on India we are talking about the biggest democracy in the world an economic and military power India is more than capable of settling such issues internally it should not take a nudge from West Asia unfortunately that's what it looks like that Indian Missions were scrambling to do damage control listen to the clarification that they offered the tweets do not in any manner reflect the views of the government of India these are the views of Fringe elements in line with our civilizational heritage and strong cultural traditions of unity and diversity the government of India Accords the highest respect to all religions like I said not a good look on India New Delhi has fiercely guarded its National policies whether it's on the farmer's law or Kashmir or Russia's war in Ukraine India has successfully resisted foreign pressure do you know how because India was right but this time the delay has cost India it has given Gulf States the opportunity to take the moral High Ground which brings me to another question where did Muslim countries suddenly find their voice let me take you back to March 2022 the organization of Islamic cooperation met in Pakistan guess who was their special guest Chinese foreign minister wongi he casually represented the country that has put one million regular Muslims in labor camps what did the OIC say about that nothing they smiled and clicked pictures with wonky now that same OIC is making a lot of noise listen to their statement and I'm quoting the OIC strongly condemned and denounced the recent denigration of prophet Muhammad by an official of India's ruling party these cases of defamation are part of a growing Spate of hatred and defamation of Islam in India how convenient China's genocide is completely fine but one comment from India has brought down all hell what gives for starters you can criticize a democracy but you cannot criticize an autocracy India being a responsible country took action good luck trying that with China but that response but not must not be mistaken for weakness the Gulf States must realize that India is not a punching bag for their domestic politics just think about it this whole controversy broke out 10 days ago there was no backlash then not a single Muslim country said anything no diplomatic summons no official protests but when their public got wind of it things changed suddenly the Gulf States went into overdrive so this is not about protecting Islam this is about political mileage and literally every country has joined the bandwagon even Pakistan their prime minister tweeted this he wants the world to reprimand India I'm in the audacity Pakistan of all people lecturing on religious rights the government of India had the perfect response this is what they said the absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on the treatment of minorities in another nation is not lost on anyone voic also got a stiff response India described their statement as motivated misleading and mischievous in fact we this entire episode is absurd the comments were wrong but look who is criticizing them Saudi Arabia a monarchy that orders hit jobs and journalists Qatar an Emirate with no political parties and no women's rights Iran a pretend democracy where dissent equals Death are these the new Defenders of religious rights unfortunately that is the world we live in the hypocrisy is not an accident it's a way of life the question is how do you avoid this web of trouble by staying ahead of the curve in this case by taking action the next day not 10 days later the gulf isn't just trying to embarrass India it is squeezing Asia forcing the region to pay more for oil Saudi Arabia has raised oil prices for Asia starting July Asian countries will have to pay more for oil the hike is over two dollars per barrel per liter rather so Asian countries will pay a premium of 6.2 dollars per barrel markets have reacted to riyadh's move oil prices jump today touching almost 120 dollars per barrel that's the highest in almost three months oil prices have increased almost 60 percent this year and if this trend continues Asian countries will end up shelling more for for crude Market analysts say this price hike is surprisingly High the market had forecast an increase of 1.5 dollars Saudi Arabia jacked up prices by more than two dollars but not for everyone let's tell you which countries will have to pay more for Saudi oil you would know that Asia is among the biggest buys of Saudi oil 60 of Riyadh exports are sent to this region to Asia China Japan South Korea and India are the biggest buyers so they will have to Shell out more for crude what about countries like the United States well no such Dynamic pricing for them no changes in crude prices for the U.S in fact the Saudis have not hired prices for American exports for more than two months now why the special treatment for Asia why are Asians being forced to pay more there's a simple explanation for this Asia is hungry for more crude lockdowns are being lifted in countries like China as economic activity resumes the Chinese will need more oil now we know that Japan has announced it will stop buying Russian oil Saudi Arabia is the biggest exporter to Japan so Tokyo will lean more on Saudi oil as it pivots away from Russian crude countries like India also need more oil so the demand is set to go up sanctions of Russia have led to a shortage in the market the Saudis are making the most of the situation they're basically preempting more demand for oil which is why they have raised prices to boost profits from exports and Riyadh uses oil pricing in more ways than one yes it will make more money by jacking up prices but Saudi Arabia is also known to use oil as a diplomatic tool Riyadh is not a fan of sanctions against Russia last month the Saudi energy minister came out in Moscow support Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman said this the world should appreciate the value of OPEC plus these are his words what is OPEC plus the biggest grouping of oil producers in the world 24 countries are part of it and this list includes Russia Saudi Arabia is the de facto leader of OPEC plus since 2016 both countries have worked together on oil pricing how much Supply should be released in the market how much should be held back they've coordinated on all of this and just by dictating Supply Saudi Arabia and Russia have determined how oil prices behave this has been a mutually beneficial relationship but Russian sanctions could break up this partnership there is pressure to suspend Russia from OPEC plus Reports say some members of The Alliance have also explored this idea Riyadh is not one of them so it is reminding the world white needs Russia you see there's a very basic problem with buying oil you cannot find substitutes overnight there are different varieties of oil available in the market some need to be less refined than others so countries buy oil depending on the kind of facilities they have to process that oil for instance if a country can process raw crude oil it will buy that if a country has limited processing capabilities it will buy light crude oil in other words you have to find the right type of oil for your country if you want to stop buying Russian oil you can't just replace it with something else you will need the same variant that you were buying before or you'll have to create facilities for the new variant now Saudi Arabia is one of the few countries that can supply a viable alternative to Russian oil they can fill the gap that the disruption from Russia has created and that's what it's trying to tell the world you can't just replace Russia overnight you can't just remove Russia as an oil supplier Western sanctions are forcing the world to make difficult choices the United States is leading this Mission against Russia but it faces No Economic Consequences it is not paying more for oil it is Asia that's paying the price for this forced pivot well pakistanis too have to pay more for oil but they can't just blame Saudi Arabia for it or America they will also have to blame their own government it put the whole country on a slippery slope and our former prime minister apparently faces arrest all kinds of threats are being exchanged what do you think will happen if Imran Khan is put in jail his party is spelling it out the warning of consequences meanwhile the current prime minister is struggling to get an IMF bailout they need money there is pressure to cut subsidies the IMF has made it very very clear Pakistan must reform it must change its policies so the government has hiked the prices of all petroleum products in Pakistan by how much 30 Pakistani Rupees petrol was selling at 179 rupees per liter it has now been increased to 209 diesel was at 174 rupees per liter it's now at 204. now for the record this is the second such hike in less than 10 days last week Pakistan raised prices by around 20 this time it's a 17 hike it's hard to say the IMF will be impressed with this the Pakistani media certainly is not let me quote what an op-ed in Dawn says by keeping domestic prices low this is very interesting listen to this carefully by keeping domestic prices low the government had implicitly been Doling out its borrowed resources to the comparatively Rich consumers of oil indeed poor consumers also benefited as they indirectly used oil by riding buses as they own neither cars nor motorbikes but the non-poor were receiving needless and shameful charity needless and shameful charity that's what low fuel prices mean for Pakistani intellectuals also their defense is outstanding they say the hike was needed to make the rich pay more for oil where does this leave the average Pakistani in Long queues at Petrol pumps look at these images filling stations in Pakistan are packed some people are even turning up with bottles they say they're stocking up in case there's another hike foreign people have hit the streets here to demonstrate against the price hike some even brought pictures of Imran Khan along foreign protests are also being held in Islamabad on Friday night women held a demonstration and chanted slogans against Shabbat Sharif they accused his government of making the Common Man suffer is with people out on the streets there's a storm raging on social media Imran Khan went on a Twitter Rampage he's complaining about the price hike urging his supporters to keep the pot boiling well it's another matter that Mr Khan himself is in a soup he could be arrested soon says who Pakistan's interior Minister this man ranasana Allah he wants to put Imran Khan Behind Bars what for for instigating an armed attack against the Federation allow me to tweet from the posts that he recently put out Imran Khan is being provided the security as below and the same Security will arrest him once his bail expires on the 25th of June he is and he's nominated as a suspect in more than two dozen cases including rioting instigating violence and armed attacks on the Federation the statement has unnerved the PTI it says if Imran Khan is arrested there will be a strong backlash this warning was issued by Shah Mahmud Qureshi he says the Shiva Sharif government will not be able to deal with the public reaction if it takes any step against Imran Khan listen to this foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] Khan you face the people's wrath the question is do the people of Pakistan have nothing better to do fuel prices have been hiked food prices are spiraling out of control the people are barely being able to make ends meet how long will they keep demonstrating on the streets and how long will they remain Pawns in the hands of their politicians it's time they ask themselves some of these questions now one man's Journey from prime minister to former prime minister has brought Pakistan to a standstill pretty soon Imran Khan may have company thousands of miles away another prime minister is facing a no confidence vote Boris Johnson of Britain it was always on the cards Johnson's lockdown parties have divided the Tories many of them wanted him to resign to give way to a new prime minister and today it could actually happen at 6 PM British time Boris Johnson faces a no confidence motion it's a bit different from what we see here in India there's no confidence vote is not against the Tories it's only against the Prime Minister which means it is a bit of an internal election only conservative party lawmakers will vote labor MPS are not part of it so how do you trigger this vote if 15 percent of Tory MPS write a letter demanding it the vote will happen right now there are 359 Tory MPS in Parliament 54 of them had to request for a no-confidence vote on Monday that threshold was achieved I'll tell you what was in the statement if it's helpful to you which is simply to say uh that the threshold of 15 to the Parliamentary party seeking a vote of confidence in the Prime Minister has been passed therefore a voting confidence will take place uh within the rules of the 1922 committee to vote to survive Boris Johnson needs a simple majority half plus one if you do the math that's 180 votes if 180 MPS vote for Boris Johnson he will be safe not just for today but for an entire year if Johnson wins today he cannot be challenged for the next 12 months that's what the Tory rule book says but what if he does not get the votes then Boris Johnson will have to resign the Tories will hold an internal leadership election whoever wins that election will become the next prime minister some names are already doing the rounds Finance Minister rishu sunak foreign minister Liz truss even Johnson's old Challenger Jeremy Hunt Johnson had defeated hunt to claim the Tory leadership in 2019. now hunt wants payback he's urging all conservative MPS to oust Boris Johnson the question is will he succeed and frankly it's a 50 50 call publicly Boris Johnson's cabinet has offered him full support Rishi sunach list Sajid Javed all of them have treated in support of prime minister Johnson but here's a problem the no confidence vote is a secret ballot which means anything goes Johnson's cabinet is filled with potential successors so will they support him or put their own career first in Britain it's usually a no-brainer especially among the Tories they're notorious for abandoning their leaders that's one reason why Boris Johnson will be wary another reason is this one the lack of public support this weekend Boris Johnson arrived at Saint Paul's Cathedral for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee take a look at the reception that he got [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] you saw that some pretty loud booze there so later today the Tories will have to ask themselves an important question is Boris Johnson now a liability his party Gates candle is not disappearing he failed to deliver in the local elections so is it wise to keep backing him especially with two by-elections around the corner they're scheduled for the 23rd of this month and the Tories are expected to lose both one to the labor party the other to the liberal Democrats but that's not the only question they must also think of Alternatives after Boris Johnson who Rishi sunak's approval ratings are equally bad if not worse Liz truss has become synonymous with gaffes so Boris Johnson could be their best bet for the moment and the prime minister is eager to prove that he had a busy week planned Johnson was going to announce a new housing and health policy he was also planning to come up with a major overhaul of the NHS both populist ideas but now he may not have the opportunity the no confidence vote will Begin by around 6 PM British time that's 10 30 PM IST the whole process could take around two hours the result will be announced immediately whatever happens the Tories are bracing for a tough period because this crisis goes beyond just the lockdown parties it is a result of pandemic mismanagement Boris Johnson first downplayed the virus he compared it to the flu he then contemplated letting the virus spread and when he started believing the science it was too late we called it right from the start the pandemic would claim many political careers but tonight we will know if Boris Johnson joins that list if Queen Elizabeth will get a 15th prime minister on her Platinum Jubilee we'll be watching this one for the moment we talk about China where another leader is on weak footing Xi Jinping he's supposed to be re-elected later this year in November a third term for Xi Jinping seems certain until last year but now there are doubts the reason is zero covet XI jinping's obsession with zero covet is weakening his position as president our next report tells you how [Music] 2022 was supposed to be a defining year for Xi Jinping this year he is expected to be re-elected for a record third time but 2022 is not going the way Xi Jinping had planned zero covered could derail the Chinese president's big party what is zero covet China's policy to completely crush the Wuhan virus it has backfired the latest round of lockdowns have left a deep impact on the Chinese economy in April exports from China grew by less than four percent that's the lowest in two years unemployment in urban centers has touched 6.1 percent the highest since the pandemic began the latest covered wave hit almost 40 percent of China's GDP that's more than seven trillion dollars now the lockdowns are over but economic activity in China Still Remains muted people are worried for the future they fear another round of lockdowns could ruin their livelihoods there is pressure on Xi Jinping to withdraw zero covet with who Chief Dr Ted Ross had applauded the policy two years ago but he now believes zero covet is unsustainable even Chinese experts agree with that assessment but the Chinese president disagrees Xi Jinping has refused to change cause last month he warned top Chinese officials president Xi Jinping sought a Crackdown against those who dare to question zero covet experts say his following in the footsteps or the autocratic Ming Dynasty it was founded by The Hang Chinese in 1368. they ruled over China for about three centuries at that time a major Bubonic plague outbreak had hit China It is believed over 200 000 people died in the Great Plague the Ming Emperor responded with a zero plague policy just like in the present day the movement of people was severely restricted the success of zero plague strengthened the main emperor Xi Jinping is trying to replicate that same success but his obsession with zero covet is creating social unrest the people of China are frustrated with repeated lockdowns thousands of them protested the curbs in Shanghai there are protests in Beijing too two weeks ago hundreds of University students gathered on campus they were worried about pandemic restrictions some of them took to social media they wanted to know when and how their final examinations would take place and if they will be allowed to leave campus and return home Xi Jinping wants these voices of descent to be crushed these protests pose a big threat to the Chinese president they could derail the 20th National Congress in November where Xi Jinping is expected to seek his third term at the beginning of the pandemic zero covet was XI jinping's most powerful weapon now it has become his biggest liability is bad news not just for China but for the rest of the world to it seems XI jinping's domestic troubles will dictate his response overseas the fear is it might lead to unintended consequences raise the risk of conflict case in point the Pacific recently China pursued a security agreement with 10 Pacific Islands we told you all about it they wanted a deal a sweeping deal the deal fell through China failed small Pacific Nations rejected China's proposals Beijing was humiliated instead of backing out they're doubling down now recently there was a dangerous Face-Off between the militaries of China and Australia Australia had sent a surveillance aircraft to the South China Sea which by the way is a routine affair they root all the time but this time it was different China dispatched one of its fighter jets and this aircraft intercepted the Australian plane it executed a dangerous maneuver the Chinese plane released pieces of aluminum they got sucked into the engine of the Australian plane I can confirm that on the 26th of May a raft p8 Maritime surveillance aircraft was intercepted by a Chinese j-16 fighter aircraft during what was a routine Maritime surveillance activity in international airspace in the South China Sea region The Intercept resulted in a dangerous maneuver which did pose a safety threat to the p8 aircraft and its crew the Australian government has raised our concerns about the incident with the Chinese government the incident happened last month where the details were made public Only Yesterday Australia is calling this a dangerous Act of aggression and they're right anything could have happened here the lives of the Australian crew were put at risk thankfully no one was hurt but how does Beijing justify actions like these as always they're blaming the other side China will never allow any country to violate its sovereignty and security under the banner of freedom of navigation and endanger peace and stability in the South China Sea we urge Australia to respect China's national security interests and major concerns and to be cautious with its words and deeds so as to avoid a miscalculation that could cause serious consequences foreign said nothing about its own acts of aggression and no surprises there China never admits its own mistakes the world should worry about what they will do next because they've not taken their eye off the Pacific they might have lost the security deal but they're trying to establish a footprint in the Pacific Chinese foreign minister wongi was in the Pacific last month he visited seven Pacific countries he engaged virtually with leaders of two more island nations the Chinese foreign minister made a statement with this tour that he wants to remain engaged keep an eye on future opportunities to strike deals and wonky did not get the deal he wanted but experts believe the setback has only quote unquote strengthened China's resolve so they are going to try again recruiting more friends is just one part of that strategy the second part is active military presence the Chinese military is challenging Regional Powers especially Australia the tensions between China and Australia are growing the jet encounter was just the latest in a series of flash points the first one happened back in the month of February a Chinese Naval vessel was sailing near Northern Australia it used a military-grade laser on an Australian surveillance plane Australia said this was an unprovoked act of intimidation the Chinese military provoked Australia during elections too on the day of voting the pla dispatched a vessel it came within 50 nautical miles of a naval Communication Center Australia said China was trying to gather intelligence China sent a reconnaissance vessel it is equipped with highly sensitive equipment do you know what it can do it can pick up electronic signals of Warships Canberra Fair Beijing was trying to collect information about American ships those warships that are active in the region so the military military threat from China is growing by the day what is the end game what are they trying to do here they're chasing military Supremacy in every possible theater of conflict considering the unpredictable leadership in Beijing these developments must be seen for what they are a serious challenge to World Peace now there are some things in life you cannot Escape like advertisements while watching TV we've all been there your suspense thriller is building up perfectly and all of a sudden they got to ads we've all been there it's annoying but you cannot Escape it over the years we've seen many kinds of ads some funny ones some flashy ones some thought-provoking ones and also some disgusting ones tonight we want to talk about the last time the disgusting ones two such ads were made by a company called Lair shot their perfume brand based in India take a look at their marketing Marvel or Acer fake fragrant body spray [Laughter] [Music] clear shot fragrant body spray to add same theme rape jokes let me break it down for you in both ads the boys are talking about taking a shot clear your reference to rape the girl reacts with shock and disbelief but then comes the big reveal the shot they're talking about was this perfume was this supposed to be funny because nobody is laughing this ad is making a mockery of sexual assault or what women go through in such situations the fear is very much real but this ad turns it into a farce a punch line for a bad joke on social media the verdict was clear this advertisement should not be allowed to air so the government stepped in the information and broadcasting Ministry pulled the ad from television it also directed YouTube and Twitter to remove all traces but here's our question Who on Earth thought this was a good idea I'm sure ad creation does not happen overnight there are meetings there are multiple presentations quality checks a lot of procedures before an advertisement goes on air how did these disgusting videos make though meet those standards I can only think of one reason the standards themselves are low the clarification from the company confirms that listen to what they said only after due and mandatory approvals have we aired the advertisements wherein we never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments or feelings or outrage any woman's modesty as wrongly perceived by some that's one way to apologize apparently the problem was not the advertisement the problem was how millions of Indians perceived the ad as far as clarifications go not a good one Those ads only triggered one perception and that was promoting rape culture plain and simple unfortunately advertisers have made a habit of the sexism rape culture toxic masculinity these have become common marketing themes not just in India but all over the world let me show you another example this ad was released in 2017 by German car maker Audi it was made exclusively for the Chinese market oh [Music] come on [Music] buying a car has been compared to finding a wife except they're completely different the car is a commodity a woman is not apparently that difference was lost on the folks at Audi here's another example this ad was created by Nando's a restaurant chain in India look at the text we don't mind if you touch our buns whatever you're into enjoy any Nando's meal with your hands is always recommended how classy perfume and deodorant ads are the worst offenders they always portray women as objects of Attraction their only role is to fawn over the men what explains the sexist streak in ads a couple of things number one men still dominate advertising firms across the world the thought process the content the messaging everything is tailored for the male audience and number two a lack of sensitivity training ads are not just meant to grab eyeballs they're supposed to send the right sort of message to persuade you to buy something but ads like these do the exact opposite they fill you with disgust the next time you see a layer perfume what do you think you'll think about this ad for sure which is why advertising is a double-edged sword it can make or break impressions so governments must be more active in regulating them I'm talking about higher standards more oversight in the UK for instance sexist ads are banned if any advert has been portrays gender stereotypes they will be taken off air India could perhaps try something like that because let's face it this ad is not a one-off most advertisements use sexist and toxic themes removing them one by one based on public outrage is not a viable solution there must be a blanket rule and most importantly there must be some consequences for people who make such content her last story tonight is about gun Terror and the consequences that Americans are facing a daily headline in the United States not a day goes by when gunterra does not claim the lives of innocent individuals in the U.S over the weekend gave another Grim reminder there were at least 10 mass shootings Across America 10 shootings in two days 16 people killed 60 others injured you think that's bad then wait till you hear what American lawmakers plan to do about it at least two states are mulling arming teachers they want teachers to carry weapons against prospective Shooters in their classrooms here's a report gun terror is now a daily headline in America what is the worst thing that American lawmakers can do in a situation like this take no action but in the United States of America The Story Goes from bad to worse because in the land of the free states proposed to protect citizens from Guns by giving them more guns would you like to send your child to a school where her teacher comes to class carrying a gun American parents May soon be facing that situation States plan to arm teachers against students and Shooters this would be disastrous what America needs is gun control not more guns look at what their weekend looked like three killed in Philadelphia in a gunfight three killed in Tennessee in gun violence three killed in Michigan in a mass shooting one person shot in South Carolina two killed in an Arizona nightclub one dead in Nebraska a teenager killed in a strip mall in Arizona five teens wounded at a graduation party in Texas a twenty-year-old killed at another graduation party in misery and in Georgia one man dead and three injured in a shooting at an abandoned home that's a total of 10 mass shootings and 16 deaths this happened in a span of 48 hours that's a weekend in gun Terror country busy streets nightclubs graduation parties strip malls abandoned homes massacres everywhere in America we're 156 days into 2022 and America has witnessed over 246 mass shootings this is turning into one of their deadliest years plus a long summer lies ahead which could bring more violence it's been the trend the spike in temperatures comes with a spike in mass shootings and how do you think American lawmakers plan to deal with all of this they have a precedent who makes speeches and passes the buck they have states which want to control shootings with more guns the states of Ohio and Louisiana plan to permit teachers to carry firearms these teachers will be trained to respond quickly in case of a mass shooting Texas is mulling taking a similar step some State Attorneys have extended their support what's the argument they're making the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun it's an old saying in America and an absurd response to the gun epidemic a dangerous plan a move that will only make guns more accessible and cases of school shootings more widespread research shows the idea of a good guy with a gun doesn't fly it only helps the gun lobby a school is meant for learning not for armed teachers taking aim at students to protect other students viewer report we on world is one now let's take a look at what else is making news across the world this is gravitas Global headlines [Music] in a direct response to the eight missiles fired by North Korea on Sunday
