southern medicine all right i think they're all good huh we're all good hello and gentlemen we come here to this time right before our grand entry here the way tom phillips spoke yesterday we look towards these prayers these good words that get us through today we call upon this young man from onion lake to say a few words for us for our dancers our drums our people ladies and gentlemen throughout this year has been really hard on our indian people and the rest of our people are human beings with this kobid we find new ways to adapt to overcome things we write we rely heavily on these prayers our ceremonies each one of us here this time we know we know what each one of us been through this time we look forward to these words right here from this gentleman so everything wants twitch to say these words at this time so ladies and gentlemen if you can stand humble this time we come over here to onion lake at this time mr irving wasgwitz i'd like to thank the creator as the elders that told me always acknowledge the creator i'm very thankful to be here once again and the elders had passed on i keep them in my heart we came here with heavy hearts also from canada we lost some members and i think about him here as i dance and so to everybody please join me for a little bit i want to say it in my language that plain screen language this prayer i was offered to back with right those are the honor guard the ones that are bringing in the flags and the escorts they're all coming over richard is coming over with the protocol for the dance those that be coming in ronnie lodgepole you are bringing in our eagle staff for us today in this arena and throughout indian country the eagle staff has precedent over the stars and stripes because it was indeed the first flag of this land before the stars and stripes our eagles to have led our warriors our soldiers into into battle and they followed behind that just as we do in our parade in our green entry our processional so that's going to be the order today ronnie lodgepole is going to be carrying in our eagle staff for us today all other dancers come on over we are getting ready for grand entry this afternoon what kill boys you'll have the first four iron hill you'll pick it up second four and back and forth all the way till our dancers are in the arena ladies and gentlemen you are in for an awesome spectacular event green injury is the most beautiful colorful ceremony and ceremonial that you'll see in the united states of america come to think of it united states has very few ceremonies except for when you put your hand on the bible and swear to tell the whole truth and that's about it we have no ceremonies in america yeah but our indian people we have many many ceremonies different things for naming ceremonies wedding ceremonies all of uh ceremonies that are part of a way of life for directions we have also the sundance gourd dance that are part of our societies so the uh indian people the native people have many many different societies and events that are part of our our community so we're looking forward to today most spectacular sight you'll see in this country the omaha were the first tribe to introduce this dance we called a grand entry in pow wow before that time we all had our own ceremonies and dances and now today we come together collectively inner tribally to join the spirits that are here and their spirits was prayed for by eric a little while ago he prayed for the good spirits to come in here and cleanse us and be with us to protect us he prayed for wellness for all of our people including the spectators he prayed for all of us want to thank him for his prayers eric lodgepole thank you hi hi who is that it looks like we're just about ready to begin this afternoon's grand entry but this time ladies and gentlemen i'd like to introduce you to a brand new master of ceremonies for the morongo thunder enlightening power gathering bart pojoaque he's from warriors made the ultimate sacrifice for their country [Applause] our native people my population represented more of our enlisted men than any other race and they all volunteered not one was drafted we recognized that warriorship through the singing of our black songs [Music] [Music] before the star-spangled banner was pinned by francis scott key we had our tribal songs at pre-date performing with this country our own flag songs in our own languages [Music] [Music] [Music] i've just been informed by our canadian relatives that the queen gave the canadian flag to the natives there out of respect for their cultures so they recognize these flag songs as well [Music] ah [Music] as the flag blew over the island of iwo jima these songs are being sang right here in this country for safety for our warriors our military today we continue that practice singing our flag songs to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and for those who return [Music] what do you think randall and
