I'm not fat camera adds ten pounds people yeah that's true [Music] something that we have actually been really looking forward to for the past few months finally happened yes we finally made it over to Elkhart Indiana to the mothership to the birthplace of our our humble mentum we were so excited to take this tour that we actually did a two-day trip from Vermont to Elkhart Indiana over some pretty pretty crappy were pretty crappy brother but it was it was definitely worth it yeah for us two days is about 800 miles I think we went a little over 800 miles those two long days of driving when we got the L car we stayed at Elkhart campground so it was a good campground mm-hmm lots of spaces it was conveniently located there's a momentum coming in something you don't see very often is two moments thank you craft yeah great design has separate facilities for some of their different models they offer separate tours for the separate product lines so if you have a momentum or are interested in the momentum they have a separate tour for that so that's pretty cool that's the tour we took obvious that we have Wrentham yeah but you can't take a tour for the solitude or the imagine or the different lines obviously there are in different buildings and they'll drive you over there momentum is directly behind their corporate headquarters building so we could just walk over there you'll probably see some footage the smallest travel trailer that they make which is the imagine XLS within that facility we were lucky enough that we got to take two tours of the same tour but it took the regular tour that is off production so it's after they're done for the day which is great figure tours so they can have people walking through without disturbing production what I enjoyed about taking the first tour was we had six other people on tour with us and it was neat to hear everybody's stories there were two other couples that were already current momentum owners and then there was another guy and his son and he was there shopping for a ring and keep watching because later in the video we actually talk to some of them and get their feedback on what they thought about the tour yeah our first time interviewing people so don't be too hard shot they will give you a bright neon orange vest and some safety goggles cuz they want you to be safe smash my eyes then we got to go back to the next day and get a private tour we're at the factory back here is where they make the momentum that's where our house was built that's our our home our Big Mo which we have named yeah that's right built right back there we had three tour guides good Jeff and Justin in Austin so that was that was really neat to get their perspectives on things too all the actions going on behind you all right guys thanks for joining us so right now we're looking at a 376 momentum toy hauler momentum is a really special product we put a lot of time and attention into it especially the frame this is where everything starts so we want to make sure that we're building it from a really strong base they did work with Lippert and they have this 101 inch white chassis which makes it so that the bulk of the brain is further out so they're not using angle brackets that are this way to make your floor wider right so it gives you the extra living space but also moves the support out along with that rather than just putting brackets in and having a plenty floor a wide-body chassis how does that translate to the interior because obviously you have more space but we're able to make our slide out steeper you can walk under them for extra inches is it only on the floor but it extends all the way up to actually see underneath ours right here the distance between the frame and the edge of the rig is like that far versus being that far and having your supports that far away from your frame really I mean that wide-body achieved so notice that if you can't do it big rigs like Momentum's of the solitudes they're using beefy stuff which I like because we call VP things inside Lucile she's a happy girl yeah it's a twelve inch I beam frame and or the drop frame units like this it's got a ten inch I beam a 7/8 inch on the drop frame and double weld it and do some stuff I don't know what it is yeah most customers aren't gonna see the chassis so they're not gonna see the amount of crossmember support these crush bars the gauge of steel this is pretty incredible this is where you're towing for up so you want to make sure that this area has enough strength for all that torque that you're pulling with also up here we have five crossmember supports across here a lot of the industry is using three and we got to see that with our own eyes we did since I can't see inside our frame tool crossmember supports five crossmember support it was really neat because while we were standing there looking at the chezy's we actually saw them flip it over yeah they flipped it over to work on the bottom yeah at the bottom stuff on the use a corrugated plastic on the bottom which is part of their like fully enclosed and heated underbelly yeah one thing I noticed too that we asked them about is that the corrugated plastic is pretty common amongst rvs it's not common is for them to use aluminum strip all the way down the side so it's sealed even between the screws it's not going to just rip through the plastic they have a special channel for the fuel lines or the fuel line I guess is one fully enclosed channel since our gas tank is back behind the axle and our generator is up here in front they closed that gas line so that if there is a tire blowout or something that gets up in there again rupture that gas line that caused the problem so another thing that I saw that really interested me because my girlfriend's safety is paramount and for those of you who haven't watched our channel this is not my girlfriend this is my wife okay I can pick girlfriends over there it's Lucille 2017 Indian Roadmaster yes is the tie-down rings the earrings that are in the garage I was wondering how well those were secured so I got to see this when we had the frame all by itself they're bringing the mugs right here they weld in cross supports steel and B rings through the steel it goes through the floor and into the frame so his girlfriend can stay nice safe and secure right and speaking of the garage the momentum is one of the first in the industry to a fully inflated garage yeah yeah the floor of the garage like the rest of the rig is insulated got a one-inch piece of marine grade decking in our garage I think it's an r45 value yeah I don't know what that means I don't really either but it's a cool number so the garage floor is insulated and we can attest to that well it does get a little cooler in the garage because I think it's not as insulated as the rest of the rig but we've had it in the teens as far as temperatures sighs yeah so right now we're looking up our main living area floor structure do you have a shuttle number and a bin number consists in the same every single time we're gonna do two clean full welds on either side and if you guys take a look over here you'll notice how much in floor support there is we don't want you to be bouncing around while you're walking through our coaches when we walk in our rig versus other rigs that we toured and looked at when we returned it to buy these floors feel solid and I think that that's why they take hardwood and they put hardwood inside the aluminum framing give it even more support which and I think this is really awesome yeah that's just one of those small things that you would really think about but they actually make this product never you'll never see it if you see the inside of your frame something went horribly wrong yeah it's more material cost a little bit more but it's the right thing to do [Music] [Applause] [Music] something that was impressive to us and we've already been impressed by this but to see to see it from behind and how it actually works I've seen ours but we're talking about the Nautilus system the thing that if you watched our tour video or our can't breakdown set up a little color-coded knobs that is extremely helpful to come up with a color-coded visual guides of all of your water management we went through all of this work to create all those bypasses so it's just the turn of a button which makes it super easy to handle the wet Bay stuff I thought it was cool to see the laminated walls this has a model and a PIN number it's built on a pattern so it's the same every time just like our floors to be too clean full welds on either side of that aluminum frame and then we have the port going through our wall and the goal is to get about 16 on center wherever there's a cutout like a window there it's not just cut out and left there it's framing all the way around okay that window yeah behind whatever is in here everything gets marked with a PIN number so as you go through the build every little piece of your rig is in number of arts but I thought it was neat that they don't just have a whole bunch of walls and slide walls all just separate the piece of the wall that's on your slide came from the side of your rig right they want the slide-out boxes to be as rigid as possible so they also laminate the side walls so when they're going in and out over the course of a summer you know hundreds of times that they're gonna maintain staying on that track so they're not gonna get out of whack was neat when we were walking through and we saw the front caps being put together we don't know what's behind our front cap we never get to see that because but it was neat to see that the entire front cap is framed just like the rest of the rig that you've got that behind the fiberglass and of course you've got the insulation so we got to go also up to the second level the tier whatever it is to look at where they work on their routes right [Music] a couple things have stood out were the framing of the roof it was impressive to see the support beams that go all the way across the room we built this roof 16 on center just like your home would be so afterwards this is fully walkable being able to walk up on your roof is key this guy who does it just about every week or at least every time right before we leave to go to a new campsite yeah I mean I'm kind of crazy about our checklist and yeah once again our camp breakdown setup okay so another thing that Jeff pointed out is that when they're putting the marine-grade decking across the top of the crossmember supports for the roof where the pieces but up to to each other they are all sanded smooth so you're not going to have any any kind of splintering between the seams and they seal those things before the TPO roof goes on another thing about the TPO roof is that it goes on as one solid piece they stretch the whole thing across take it over the edges they seal the edges with the gutters and stock clips on the edge and then cut it off underneath so that from one side to the other side of your roof from the front to the back is all one piece of tpo damn fire smoke [Music] I really enjoyed getting to the point in the process where we got to PDI right so before the things out they do a pre delivery inspection there which is a two hundred and eighty point which I don't even know what you do for two hundred they do it so one of the things we got to see with our own eyes as part of that PDI is the water pressure test we also saw them have that kind of little breakout box connected to the trailer hitch to test all the lights there were people going through the rig with tape to mark things off blemishes things like that and then people coming back through there to fix those things right everything that they find you can by looking for the units that get the full body paint like ours they do a full PDI then it goes out gets painted at a different facility run comes back and they do it again the final step in the PDI process you can look down here and you see scales on the ground that's where the original or unique weight for each trailer customer yeah so we published the average Pete's trailer is going to come with a unique way we love it when people come because it's kind of an honor it out people come all the way to our facility to see what we do so we take it really serious and we'll go into as much detail as you uh as people watch it obvious to us why they don't let the tours go through during production you know we I mean the two of us were kind of getting in the way sometimes we felt we're trying to be on our cameras and stuff yeah yeah it was up but it was really nice yeah they did also HAMP and lead on that they have some cool new features coming out in the new coming models they wouldn't really tell us a whole lot yeah we have an idea about a couple but we can't say yeah the best exciting so of course once the rigs are complete they've gone through their PDI that go to a holding area which is like this massive mass massive yard of Momentum's that we saw yes altars and then whatever it was constant loading and unloading of units to picking some up and taking them out to get shipped and then bringing some it once they are finished in the factory their entire campus we didn't get to see because it's freakin ginormous I think this guy it's maybe four or five separate buildings and they've got a service facility there yeah with campsites so if you do have to bring your rig back to grand design and have to work on it they have campsites there I would have had to get the drone to like five thousand feet to be able to get the whole field with you yeah yes I found a few interesting things to do while we were in Elkhart we went to the RV Hall of Fame that was fun that was how we know what the ones need Batman going back to a 1959 13 1913 I was your favorite so look for a separate video on our tour through the RV Hall of Fame they were nice enough there to let us film inside as well so it was pretty cool to see all the RVs yeah it was pretty cool your favorite was the stripes yeah while in Elkhart in the surrounding areas they have a thing called the Heritage Trail the elk our area actually has the third largest population of Amish people in the country so yeah you're right they have the Heritage Trail and that goes through Elkhart [Music] and from Goshen and Nappanee and Middlebury and a few others gosh we didn't even take the whole tour and we were we were out driving around for almost two hours yeah it was really pretty you just get to see I mean you truly will pass some horse and buggies and possibly runaway horse in Punjab we're coming by Dairy Queen and there's this horse comes running out from the side and there's nobody in your buggy my special thanks to everybody at grand design who let us build helped us put together this video but we also want to thank Kevin and Michelle and Tom and grant who let us talk to them at the end of the first tour that was that was pretty special we really appreciate you letting us do that when did we made some new friends yep over there Kevin I don't think that his lovely wife Michelle wants to get on camera but she and they are momentum owners already so I retired we sold the house and we'll be back in South Florida November what were your thoughts on the factory once more yeah I like this hand to seeing the guts of it come from Richmond Virginia and his side my son grant grant it was an Ohio that's right you are looking at Momentum's as a possibility I am yeah yeah came up here to visit him at school and Elkhart's kind of like the Carvey world this was very very impressive I like the attention to detail especially the fact that they've got everything pretty well weatherized there's no chance for water to get into the wood and cause rot which I understand has been a real issue with our be honest so I was I was glad to see the techniques that they employ to do that we really appreciated hearing their points of view and their stories I personally really really enjoyed back to her and it just proved kind of what we already knew and thought about grant design already but it was great to see firsthand yeah see the quality of that they're using and the special steps that they take in order to make their product different what really stood out to me was just the attitude of everybody we talked to on the floor they were very enthusiastic very just happy I because they liked their jobs they liked the company they work for and I think the mission that they signed up for three and a nine yeah and that's very special and just makes us feel good in general about at home yeah so
