Grainfather G40 - Hazy Test Brew Pale Ale

[Music] [Music] hey guys it's stass here today we're going to be doing a quick brew with the g40 the just released g40 i did have a serious brew for lack of a better word but my parts that i'm waiting for have been held up in the post so i've decided to just throw something together just to see how it works and what it's like to brew on it and today i thought rather than do my normal process i'm going to treat it just like i'm going to let the grain father hold my hand the whole way through and i'm just going to do exactly what it says so i've put in a recipe using nearly six kilos of grain and looked through my fridge for hops that passed their best before date or getting close to and so i'll be putting about 370 grams or so in the boil um just to see what comes out this is just going to be a pale ale um and i'm hoping i'm hoping the best for it the real purpose of the brew though is just to see how the system goes so without further ado let's get into the brew day in the interest of transparency i should disclose that grandfather did send me this g40 in exchange for me featuring it in a couple of brew day reviews i will be doing a full review a little bit later down the track once i've used it a couple of times and i've got to know it's it's ins and outs a little bit better however grandfather aren't vetting any uh videos before they go live on my channel and i will of course be telling you what i think from my perspective they aren't controlling the content of the video in any way let's get on with it [Music] oh [Music] [Music] to mash out you can see here's your little progress bar i'm going to put the lid on make it faster we've finished our mash out it says here press set to continue press set and it tells me to lift up the grain pipe and it's automatically turned the pump off and so i need to take out the recirculation pipe and let's see how heavy this is going to look slowly well that's not too bad it's nice and wide it sits up there lift the grain basket press set to continue and it's set the power to 100 as i said we're doing a no sparge today have a look at the grain so you can see that obviously with that recirculation it's created a bit of a divot here so it's a lot lower there than it is here i guess that's a downside of not having a top plate we'll see what the efficiency is like though [Music] [Music] oh [Music] so here's our whirlpool edition big one give that a quick stir [Music] [Music] i'm a simple manager [Music] [Music] okay so in the fermenter sitting at 29 degrees i wasn't running the chiller very hard i didn't want to overflow this i could have run it harder in the end um let's have a seat of uh what's the final wort smells and tastes like we've got the rich malt body uh we had munich vienna a bit of trad ale and a little bit of pills and some wheat just what i had lying around nice citrusy piney a little bit of tropical fruit from that galaxy and el dorado coming through i also forgot to do a waffle tablet oh well a hazy palette is yep pony a bit of resin it's a little on the bitter side it's always hard to tell with these pre-ferment beers but certainly not uh i don't think it's going to be too bitter time will tell won't it [Music] i think that'll be very nice anyway i've got cleanup to do now i need a big bucket to lift this hot filter up i'll show you what i'm doing and i've got the malt pop to to take care of as well however with a lot less of the pipes i'm assuming i'm just going to tip it into a bag and put in the green bin and it'll go into compost in a couple of days time so it won't be too smelly anyway i'll stop waffling on a bit of get packing up anyway this is stass with an impromptu brew on the new g40 so thanks for watching and uh i'll see you soon cheers [Music] oh [Music] i'm a simple manager [Music] nature i'm a simple manager [Music] [Music] you
