of all the choices you'll make when selecting a trailer none will affect your driving more than the choice between a bumper pull trailer or a gooseneck trailer when you start looking for a trailer you pretty much know what kind of trailer you want being a dump a car hauler roll-off tilt whatever it is but what kind of hitch is better that's the question we'll help you solve today hi I'm Kieffer and this is all about trailers [Music] today we're helping you make the decision of what style hitch is better for you a gooseneck or a bumper pool there's advantages to each but the differences aren't always as easy to find hopefully by the end of this video you'll have enough information to figure out which type of hitch is right for you and your tow vehicle we'll start with the bumper pole a bumper pool trailer is a great first time trailer owners go to now if you're in the market to get a trailer for the first time Texas pride trailers has a great selection of bumper pulls yes it's a shameless plug for our sponsor but seriously though bumper pools are great first time buyers trailer they're more common and less intimidating than a gooseneck trailer in addition to this we can hook up a bumper pool to pretty much any SUV or truck even some cars my VW Bug has a hitch to tell a small bumper pull trailer bumper pool trailers have a lot of advantages mostly because 90% of buffer pool trailers are smaller than gooseneck trailers it means you don't have to buy a big truck to tow a bumper pull trailer plus the bumper pull doesn't take up your bed your bed on your truck is free to load down as much as you can without going over your combined GVWR now here's the downfalls of the bumper poles more times than not the bumper pool trailers are going to be smaller and capacity inside than the gooseneck trailers which means lighter loads not as much can be hauled also the bumper poles depending on where the weight is loaded can make the trailer unstable and sway if not properly loaded we'll cover this more with the gooseneck trailers in a moment the other disadvantage is your turning radius because your trailer pivots behind your bumper you have to account for where the trailer actually turns even though they follow the vehicle towing it very well and inline you can't make super sharp 45-degree turns you have to widen out a little bit more than you would with a gooseneck so to recap the pros they're easier to tow you can hook them up to most vehicles great first time trailer and your truck bed is open to use now the cons you must make sure your weight is distributed correctly you can't make super sharp turns and you can't carry as much per load that we could with a gooseneck whether you're transporting cargo dumping loads hauling cars moving earth or hauling just about anything at all Texas pride trailers and behind me all the way [Music] so we've talked about the bumper pool trailers let's look at the gooseneck trailers first let's address what kind of vehicle these can hook up to trucks usually Dooley's you have a special hitch installed into your truck bed that it connects to but why would you want to go through all of this just for a trailer when all that you really need for a bumper pull as a hitch the biggest advantage of a gooseneck over a bumper pull trailer is that the stability is amazing since the weight of the tongue is over the trucks rear axles instead of on the back bumper this potentially minimizes the amount of sway also this means more weight can be added and the gooseneck trailers can be larger than the bumper pull counterparts the second big advantage of these is that the trailers turning radius is amazing because of the bed of the truck where the hitch is seated this allows you to corner tighter than a bumper pull trailer does this though is a double-edged sword it took me quite a few tries to learn how to drive with a gooseneck trailer I might have lost a fender and there may not be a stop sign at a certain intersection anymore but it takes some getting used to especially with a longer trailer one of the Downers unless you're in the market for or already have one you may need a bigger truck to haul most gooseneck trailers with that you want to check out if your truck in your trailer require you to have a CDL to drive it we also have a really great video on whether or not you need a CDL for your truck or your trailer it was our first video we dropped here on all about trailers I'll leave a link in the description below so to recap pros generally you can haul a lot heavier loads you get more stability and a better turning radius now the Downers you need a bigger truck goosenecks can take up most of your truck's bed considering whether hitch lies and it takes practice gooseneck and bumper pull trailers both have their own advantages and disadvantages choosing the hitch that's right for you will give you a better overall optimized trailering experience now when considering whether to purchase a gooseneck or a bumper pull trailer you really need to figure out how much trailer you need if you need it for commercial use or personal use and making sure you have a vehicle that will tow the trailer as well I hope this video has helped and if it did let us know in the comments below make sure to hit the like button and smash that subscribe button and we'll see you in the
