I've moved from an iPhone 14 pro max and the thing was a tank for battery even on 5G

Currently on a pixel 8 pro and the difference is very noticeable but I can live with it for now. Maybe around 6 hours SOT when on 5G I think I'm getting

Funnily I was using accubattery for a while which estimated my full charge screen on time to be 11 hours which seems optimistic

Not good like we all expected. I would love to see a test with only mobile data being used with no wifi.

Edit: Pixel 7 pro lasted 25 hours and 41 minutes which is only 12 minutes worse than the 8 pro. Not very impressed with the supposed battery improvements this year.

Surprisingly, it was not as bad as I expected.

I do a 1 hour 30 mins drive everyday, Google maps consumes 7% more battery than Apple Maps, a third party app vs a native app.

the pixel 8 Pro battery test is finally here and it's going up against this year's champ in the iPhone 15 Pro Max taking a look at the spec sheets the pixel is powered by the allnew 4 nanom tensor G3 chip and it has an even bigger battery than last year at 5,50 milliamp hours which is 133% bigger than the one on the iPhone of course the pixel's resolution is 11% higher than the iPhones so that may end up negating the benefits of its bigger battery and as always optimization is going to play a role will the pixel be able to pull off the upset or will the iPhone streak over Android phones continue let's find [Music] out all right we'll kick things off in the phone test where each device is going on the same 1our phone call we have consistent audio playing back on the other end of the phone call so the main things being taxed here are the earpieces and the modems since the displays do remain off for most of the test and 60 minutes later neither phone takes a major hit the pixel drops just two points down to 98 while the iPhone is still reporting 100% here in the messaging test since all we're doing is texting back and forth with our automated chatbot this time the main thing drawing the power on these phones will be the displays there have been some reports about the pixel's new display being more power efficient than before with that new Samsung E7 panel but at least through messaging it wasn't enough to give the pixel edge with it dropping by eight points compared to the iPhone's Sixpoint drop meaning if we take those percentages at face value the iPhone only used 266 milliamp hours of its battery compared to the pixel using up 44 milliamp hours for the same exact task which considering that both of these phones have the same 6.7 in screen size is a pretty big difference now it is worth noting that the pixel does have a higher resolution than the iPhone which may help explain some of the difference and at least through the email test things were definitely closer with the pixels battery only dropping by one point more than the iPhones did but the iPhone still did better with it now five points ahead of the pixel as we work on the browser test this is the first test where we're really taxing the CPUs on each phone with us loading up the same set of websites and then scrolling through them a couple of times where after an hour this time the pixel does better with it dropping by 9 points compared to the iPhone's 10 end point drop so finally some good news for the pixel in fact compared to last year's pixel 7 Pro the pixel 8 Pro is actually trending three points ahead but we'll see if we can keep it going here in Instagram where we're simply scrolling through the home feed so the displays should be ramping up to 120 HZ during the actual Scrolls and then hopefully down to 10 H Hertz during the pauses where after an hour this time the iPhone does better gaining its biggest lead of the test so far with it ahead by by six points as we move on to standby where we have each phone sit there with its display off for a full 16 hours where despite having a smaller battery the iPhone does better once again adding another two points to its lead as we start working on YouTube now most of you know this by now but it's still worth mentioning that we always calibrate the screens and the speakers to the same levels in our test so that way everything is nice and fair where after an hour of binge watching some foam buff we see the biggest difference yet with the iPhone pulling another three points ahead of the pixel meaning heading into this gaming test the iPhone has its first double digit lead and things might actually get even worse here for the pixel as I mentioned earlier the pixel does have that higher resolution with 11% more pixels than the iPhone in total which may end up hurting it here in alto's adventure where the GPU should be getting taxed a bit but somewhat surprisingly after an hour the two phones perform formed identically so really nice to see that the pixel was able to stop the bleeding let's see if we can do the same here in the maps test where we're simulating navigation with GPS turned on and the phone's actively seeking traffic information but no the iPhone manages to do a little bit better dropping by only seven points compared to the pixels 8 here in Spotify we're just playing music on each phone again those speakers are calibrated to the same deciel count where 60 minutes into it the iPhone does better yet again with it still having a 30% % of its battery remaining while the pixel is at nearly half of that at 16% which might not even be enough to get it through this SnapChat test which is easily the most intensive test in this test so far not only does it attx the cameras the microphone and the speakers but also the storage where the pixel is using ufs 3.1 instead of ufs 4.0 which in theory is 46% less efficient and combined with many other factors leads to the pixel's battery draining completely after 53 minutes while the iPhone is still at a healthy 18% now while the pixel's result is a really good one in my book pretty much any phone that can reach Snapchat is good enough for me that 18% advantage on the iPhone could go a really long way just from the results that we've seen already in this test 18% of the iPhone can last you up to an hour and 48 minutes of web browsing or even up to 3 hours and 36 minutes in Instagram but in a more intensive task like Snapchat of course it wouldn't be as long with the iPhone finishing snap with 16% before heading in into the app cycle test where things start to get really intensive with us opening up each of these apps closing them all and then repeating the process until the phone dies which for the iPhone doesn't just last another hour but an hour and 44 minutes bringing the iPhone's total time to 27 hours and 44 minutes while the pixel lasted for 25 hours and 53 minutes making the winner by a big margin the iPhone 15 Pro Max anyways that is it for me in this video thank you for watching and as always I'll see you in the very next episode
