and dr. Berman you come at this from a different vantage point yes a patient and then a doctor but you were 15 when you were diagnosed that's right that's right dr. Rachel remin was diagnosed with Crohn's disease a chronic intestinal disorder her experience as a patient motivated her to change how doctors are treating patients when I was first diagnosed my family and I were surrounded by a group of experts in white coats and they told us that we're not there was no cure there's no treatment really and that I could expect to be dead by the time I was 40 and of course we were medical family lots of doctors and my family so nobody questioned us and I made lots of life decisions based on it about children that marriage didn't seem right to me to start something I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish and you know the folks haven't changed I'm still not cure for this disease and there really is no definitive treatment and I've had multiple surgeries but I haven't been dead for 30 years and that when you're dealing with the whole person you're dealing with factors that you can't measure such things as will to move again they are a kind of Mount Rushmore of American health if we choose to do it you can go to abcnews.com and find out more about each of them and their practices
