[Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] MJC has the largest athletic program in Northern California with 21 sports being offered [Music] I first came to MJC coach divers came to my house with coach Peterson and they kind of convinced me then the next day they put me out but I still be saying that the antique Alaska commits to MVC I've always wanted to be a swear and I thought that swimming at @jc first I'd dip my feet in the pool and see if I could get recruited or not it's very competitive and you get very close with your teammates I've had athletes get their masters degrees become doctors chiropractors lawyers you know City Council members I think the best part of my job is getting phone calls from different types of employers that want to find out about some of the athletes that I've had in the past yeah I was able to get a scholarship to Cal State Fullerton through academic success and athletic success here through teachers and coaching it's like a family I mean we're always looking out for each other and always making sure hey what can I do for you I got a student that needs this hey I got somebody that needs this class or I have this class open what can we do for your athletes I've seen MJC make a difference in the life of student athletes with the priority registration if you're a high schooler and you want to come damn JC you can expect great coaches a great counselor and great student success specialists to help you along the way we're there from start to finish even when you go to transfer we even assist you after transfer the philosophy of our program is where a student transfer programs so our job is to get the students in and get them out we want the parents to know exactly what's going on and what we're trying to do from an academic to an athletic standpoint we always end up winning we always be productive we're always at the end in the results of MTA's see and all the athletics are second to none from what we start with what we end with are not the same students they come here and they give they get faster or they get strong or they're a better player or a better team mate or whatever it is they all succeed always had dreams about playing college ball and it makes a new year without any offers - probably big the one ball kind of heartbreaker but um I ended up grinding it out hit the gym made it happen went to MJC and got it done I am signing with the Colorado University go buffaloes got a full ride scholarship as long as you're ready to work like Mustafa and all the other successful students we've had all of the resources are there for you MJC hasn't even you realized I can do anything with all the hard work I can put into it there's so much more I've done that I didn't realize I could do go pirates go pirates go pirates way to do this smile laughter seriously you you back on September 15th City College of San Francisco beat Modesto 49 to 16 today Modesto has a chance to redeem that loss and not only that make some history Modesto hasn't beat City College of San Francisco since 1958 will they make history today you'll find out next welcome to George M rush Stadium and the campus of City College of San Francisco for the 2018 Golden State ball between Modesto Junior College and City College of San Francisco good afternoon everybody from the city by the bay for this matchup of the number 19 in the state city called to San Francisco and number 10 team Modesto JC Modesto has won the toss they have deferred that choice for the second half so they will be kicking off Modesto in their white jerseys Santa City College of San Francisco and their red we're going to go through some team Awards before the national anthem first of all I earn the award iron pirate award goes to number 10 our number 2 Darris Nelson weight-room champion from the spring and summer and has been a nice addition to the backfield award Ralph Bradley unsung award goes to Austin Martin's ultimate team player does a lot to turn the ball back inside that's very valuable and special teams award is to Troy doc NuLu school record for points scored in a season and has really been the most improved pirate this season as far as defensive Awards we've got and we'll come back to this boat to honor America our national anthem and the flags are at half mast and honor and mourning of the death of our 41st president of the United States George HW Bush who passed last night at the age of 94 [Music] our national anthem then the team awards for defense Most Improved freshmen number 32 Dom Silva has worked hard to get bigger faster and stronger most improved sophomore Taiwan Jordan did not play a high school football and did not start last year best defensive lineman number 34 Antonio Poole a top mg MJC football player heading into next season defensive best skill position number 23 andre sherman team leader articulate and has a heart of gold and defense most valuable player number four Ferran mano lilulu top inside player in recent memory might be a one-and-done qualifier for the Pirates for the offense and we get these in before the kickoff most improved freshmen the quarterback Jack Weaver started as a receiver and has made unbelievable growth in the last closing weeks of the season most improved sophomore who's out today is number 18 Jonah Lewis team player that has turned into a big-time deep threat the best offensive lineman Blake Evans total transformation from his high school first practice to his last bowl game offensive best skill position let him swim 15 Devon bass career all-purpose record holder at MJC d1 prospect Most Valuable Player 53 Brandon Johnson the heart of the run game in the last two years and as good as a offensive lineman that they've had and the overall the team pirate pride Jeff Linstrom award with a scholarship goes to number 44 Broderick madrone the ultimate team award for being the champion on the field and in the classroom we're underway here from San Francisco short kick by diak and a nice return by City College of San Francisco [Applause] [Music] and City College will take over their own 30 yard line led by their quarterback Jack Newman the last time he played against MJC threw five touchdown passes in the losses of City College of San Francisco he is three lost fumbles been sacked 21 times in those losses they have struggled running the football this year and in particular last week against City College of or against College of San Mateo that they played three weeks ago in the last big valve a big basics league game so it is second and four for City College of San Francisco in their red home uniforms looks like Modesto might have a blitz dialed up here a lot of guys at the line of scrimmage Newman has a lot of time and then he's rushed and sacked and Austin Martin's came in with the sack and has done that all season long and that is the 15th time he's shown up in the backfield for either a sack or a tackle for loss and just Newman had time but Martin's just kept playing the game so it'll be third and ten and this is where City College is very in depth in depth in getting these third downs and we have the Immaculate reception but it won't be enough for a first down the catch by Ballard on the reception but I didn't see the defensive player got his hand up in the passing lane but well done by the Pirates and they get to stop on the first possession of the game another statistic City College has a -7 turnover ratio I mean they've committed 7 more turnovers than they have created or caused Modesto's plus 7 short punt but it'll get a City College bounce inside the 30 and it'll be spotted at the 27 yard line and Modesto led by their quarterback Jack Weaver and I know his grandparents barb and dick are watching back in medicine Wisconsin and I'm sure they've been to the Babcock dairy to have ice cream one or three times in their lifetime no relation of course of me Chris Babcock fly sweet motion Weaver's got time it's got a wide open receiver and it's Devon bass and the big fella is tackled inside the 20-yard line bass with the reception out of the backfield and that will get a big gain all the way down to the 18 yard line 54 yard gain by bass on the wheel route out of the backfield and the Pirates will get right up to the line of scrimmage handoff they can't off to Nelson and the defense of the Rams was not fooled [Music] so gaya in a couple of other is teammates in the backfield and it's a four yard loss off that big game by Devon bass and then we've got a procedure penalty for Modesto so though far with the procedure coming back was out of with a concussion but is good to see him back in the lineup for the Pirates at left guard Weaver back to pass got a receiver wide open touchdown Modesto pirates great play-action pass in Jordan Porter with the catch and run and the Pirates just like that lead six to nothing and the Pirates have been so effective passing the running the football this year and City College took the cheese meaning they took them they stepped up on the play front play fake and got the easy touchdown and then Dayak misses his second extra point and it's six nothing you're watching Modesto Junior College football on NorCal sports TV [Applause] so the big play on that drive with it was a 57-yard reception by bass but Porter from Weaver and the Pirates get their initial score and Jack Weaver had a great game against Delta was 20 of 22 307 yards and two touchdowns that is his 12th touchdown pass of the season and Porter his 29th reception and it was a big one for TD and as far as how do you want to start the game on the road and you haven't played in three weeks basically just like that drive except for the missed extra point by Dayak returned towards the city college bench and the Pirates do a good job of running to the football Kingston Mamiya with the tackle and city college will come out for their second Drive of the game had a run play and to pass plays the pass plays Martin's had a sack and then the past deflection at the line of scrimmage on third down we're out with the tailback mental Lulay lou does a good job of covering the inside route Martin's ran with the running back Jameer Billings good coverage there and in a second and 10 and the pirates rep the you-know-what out of the past offense which is a big-time West Coast concepts with the 8th route which is the post of four out which is a 12 yard in route and then a crossing route which is at around five yards mixed with a wheel ride out of the backfield that time great coverage by the Pirates second at ten they ran for five yards against College of San Mateo that was City College pass completed Frank Hall his 55th catch of the season and that'll be enough for a first down and that is the initial first down of the game for the Rams they're coached by Jimmy Collins was a quarterback coach here for six seasons played here at City College of San Francisco and there this his second year as a head coach and he's done a great job with quarterbacks and in particular like what he's done with jack Newman at a van Leeuw high school in Sebastopol first down and somewhere in City College has got to find a run game in there should have a little bit of balance billings with the Cary and Martin's with the tackle three our gain on first down [Music] three buy one set for City College Billings offset two new ones left and they'll rotate offensive linemen from side to side strong side or a weak side bubble screen and this is where they're good in space but a great tackle got a bounce bothered with the catch and he's tackled and it'll be third and very manageable for the Rams would be third and two so the mixture of the screens the bubble screens the screens to the backs middle screens the wide receivers those are the things that you will likely see after Modesto gets a sack or deflection at the line of scrimmage and we've Billings tackled short of the line to gain and it'll be fourth down and I imagine coach Collins don't even thinking twice about going this it'll be fourth and one and gets the play in right away to his quarterback Newman is thrown for 29 touchdowns 12 interceptions and 5 loss fumbles he's been sacked 58 times and then we have a penalty and our official our white hat referee is Jerry Robinson and it's on Modesto and that'll be a penalty for a first down [Applause] philia lose offsides and now what imagine right here city college is gonna take up who's gonna take a shot here take a shot down the field after first downs in good field position they like to take their shots to receivers at the bottom of your screen and Newman's back to pass and he's under pressure in a sack [Applause] Antonio Brule gets home and in in Modesto knows what's coming if I know they're gonna take shots that is his eight and a half tackle for a loss Poulet gets home and it's second in 18 now don't be to get rid of the football and then we have a another penalty delay game on at City College coming out a timeout so second a team goes to now second in twenty three and right now you want to keep everything in front of you don't bite on a short route because they'll layer that short route with a deeper out right behind it to call it bean dip layers imagine layers Newman taking a shot downfield he's got two receiver just overthrows them and then the official takes the tumble slippery field out there Frankie freight car was open ten touchdown receptions 10th in California he's six and yards and he's only but he's played in eight games and he's as nine hundred and fifty seven yards receiving that's before his first down reception the Newman taken a shot on the nine route and it's third time city college was very successful on third down Modesto on the other hand was three a seventeen and no for three on fourth down so City College was over 50% in third down conversions the last time these teams played rugby style putt towards the Modesto sideline we an a catch by Porter not a big return but what does that do save some yardage of that ball hitting and bouncing towards your own goal line so the Pirates will take over on their own 32 they scored on their initial Drive big set up by a Devon bass big past reception pirates on the two-by-two set bass offset to Weaver's left Kain Rogers in motion and he gets the fly sweep and does a great job getting a couple yards on that play that's what keen Rogers does stretches the defense did not play against San Joaquin Delta were Modesto 149 enough and he had 206 yards rushing between seven guys deep ball to the side line that has windblown and great job by Brandon gray to track that football but I we have a penalty on the field and it might be against City College of San Francisco Jeffrey banner who had a sack verse College of San Mateo in their last game is offsides and instead of an incompletion it'll be a five-yard penalty and it'll be second in short for Coach divers they're in a three by one set the bass man offset two Weaver's right and bass dives through the hall swims through the opening and gets a first down great run by bass and I loved how he took that little crease in the gap and picked up the first down and he's got to be much fresher than he was the last time we seen him play having a couple weeks with no games and then we've got a procedure on Modesto because they weren't set there's one thing that you're gonna be trying to run the NASCAR offense you've also got to make sure your guys are set so we mentioned the opening that City College has or Modesto has not beat City College since 1958 now that sounds like wow but there's only six games during that time period but nevertheless in city college holds a 22 - 12 - and then we've got another procedure on Modesto and they're going the wrong way Jim Marshall so the last time Modesto beat City Colleges in 1958 beating him 7 to 6 so after the bass run we've had two penalties and a loss of 10 yards and it's first and 20 Weaver with the play pass he's got time and he's trying to find some room to run and he does and he picks up about 8 yards but great disciplined play there by Josiah Simmons he could have we've seen a lot of city we've seen a lot of JC football or guys just throw that guy out of bounds and get a penalty he didn't he stayed disciplined pushed him out of bounds did his job and 7 yard gain for Weaver speed option to the bass man he's got a room to run he's a guy inside the 35 yard line Devon bass fade the bass and he had a big game the last time he played against City College had over 150 yards rushing and that was a great play by bass and great blocking once again by the Pirates wide receivers in space bubble screen well blocked in Tommy oh Logan do do with the reception Brandon gray with the block in space and they pick up three yards and a little extracurricular activities going on after the play all I'm gonna do - had a great game last week six but I keep saying last week against Delta it was three weeks ago six receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown second and eight for the Pirates Darris Nelson reset to the left of Weaver up close Kain Rogers with the motion and Weaver will follow his blockers not a big run but picks up three runs but that's just the ability and the toughness of of Jack Weaver of running the ball inside and then here's the bass man just swimming in and when he did that he didn't use the football as a prop he kept it high and tight he didn't go up and down whether he kept it high and tight so third and a long four for the Pirates play clock at 10 got plenty of time Nelson in motion and it's a screen and the Rams read that one like a book a very basic man frankly he should have been tackled for a loss but keeps finding space and he's got a lot of guts and Moxie and gets the ball inside the five down to the three and it'll be first and goal Jack Weaver you work in his magic bass touchdown Modesto Devin his twelfth touchdown rushing for his career that's touchdown number 32 rushing and he has 37 or 3 receiving touchdowns Devon bass feed the bass on this Drive and the Pirates looking to get the p80 - point play Jason point slowly but it's postseason to coach divers iron nice work on the play call Hansen with the two-point reception and the pirates get back that miss extra point and it's 14 nothing on 11 play drive 68 yards and nearly six minutes off the clock and wood skill let's see that loss going play and bass credit the the season he had gone a five consecutive games of throwing interception didn't throw one last week against Delta but that one physical coverage by City College of San Francisco and the deflection and turnover by Modesto and they scored on their last drive so those are all positive things for City College Modesto deferred the option of the second half so they will get the ball to start the second half little stretch play by Billings and picks up six yards and then quickly the City College will substitute a in-line tight end so they doing a good job these last couple of plays moving the Collins has a decision to make should he decline the penalty it'll be fourth down or should he taken in marching back 10 yards they're gonna lose 6 or they're gonna lose 10 see what coach Collins decides so the penalties continue to stack up for the Pirates they had seven in the first half now they have 10 so the penalty is declined it'll be fourth down if they attempt the field goal it'll be a nearer 42 43 yard field goal attempt we have breezy conditions we are in San Francisco but this is fourth and goal and a fear on defense for City College of this ball stolen in the end zone Ock it down don't intercept it I imagine coach divers gonna try to find a look here and maybe call a timeout I don't know if he's gonna go for it here down to five and Weaver back to pass and that's incomplete so with the breezy conditions coach divers decides not to go for the field goal attempt to go for it on fourth and goal from the 24 yard line and it's incomplete and City College will take over no Modesto didn't score but they actually worked some time off the clock and City College doesn't have the best field position the ball in there 24 yard line stretch play and two yard gain by Billings and City College will speed up the tempo what's that mean less replays Newman back to pass he's got all day to throw flush from the pocket and then he simply throws that ball away great coverage by the Pirates Sherman Kendrick bond and teammates doing a good job and in particular liked how Chris Silva just sunk in his coverage and then we have another penalty on Modesto antonio Poulet with the unsportsmanlike conduct and the pirates continue to shoot themselves in the foot so see if City College can take advantage and coach divers wants to get a little explanation and not they're only averaging less less than 85 yards a game rushing and they've got that invent some and they're playing with an inline tight end and Newman on second and short coach Collins likes to take stay with an inline tight end meaning he's tight long in a stance along the next to the tackle pirates get home Austin Martens and Andre Sherman had the deep post route covered like a blanket and that enabled Austin Martin's to get home with the sack he's over 16 tackles for losses this year for the Pirates well done so it'll be second and 22 by to set Newman and Ferran Manu Lula Lu says greetings Aloha and knocks down Newman and then we've got a penalty and again it's against Modesto JC Jerry Robinson with the call Sobe a 10-yard penalty but since it didn't the past across the line of scrimmage it is not an automatic first down then the back judge will come in a touch base with Robinson and he makes his explanation so the Pirates penalty woes continue so should have been should be third and 19 right now and it's not its second 11 and when you have a good football team like City College you're going to take advantage Eaton doesn't get home and Newman with the run and it looks like his own teammate tackled him there short of the first down but Newman just doing what it takes to get the job done but short of the first down they'll be third and three the ball will be spotted on the 28 yard line but Newman good at reading the coverages saw that you had no open receivers plan his foot on the ground and went south and picked up a nice gain and very manageable third short inside run Billings and I believe it'll be fourth down and I'd imagine might be a quick little huddle and Newman with the quarterback sneak fourth and one this is a real momentum swinger potential momentum swinger for Modesto Newman with the sneak and he picks up enough for the first down and then we have some extracurricular activities after the play number 79 Moses Jamie Alalu and the official got knocked down but don't see a flag on the field let's see what happens and you be the judge there's the quarterback sneak plays over [Music] might have it from another angle this is the post play and he wanted to throw the flag but he didn't but yet they've been so quick to throw other flags interesting anyway first and ten for city college three by one well the tight end is in line here Billings will offset to Newman's left and it's a wheel route to the with the running back and then a deep passing route with Hall but it goes incomplete good coverage once again by the Pirates they have done a great job in the back side of their defense keeping everything in front today so it'll be second and short for second and ten max Pierce it tied in continues to line up on the right side two receivers to the top of your screen in a man in motion across the formation Newman will sprint out and then it's that tight end delay and the Pirates are all over that in particular Brian will be back to receive this punt by Sherman and he's roughed and I hope Andres not hurt and immediately his teammates are out there and that's the kind of team he's the Modesto is immediately out there to help their teammates Sherman is roughed but we'll see the ball will be if the ball is now marked at the 15-yard line it depends if this is a 15-yard penalty and Jerry Robinson's gonna go over to talk to coach divers but this is costly for the pirates not only Sherman a good punter he's an all-conference safety and has made a number of plays today so it would only be running into the kicker so City College will take over on their own 15-yard line so running versus roughing but if you ask Andre Sherman's family they were roughing him they didn't run into him and um it Sherman came back out on defense but he's got a he's got to come out for a play at least and Shikari Thompson will well those Marco's Gonzales I believe will come in him for at least one play Newman back to pass and he'll run and we've got a flag on City College and I imagine this plays gonna come back Jericho damu was on the pressure there so first penalty in a while on well they ran into the kicker I got to remember that pirates got off the football nice push up front Tom ooh with good pressure up front and through the holding penalty so it's first an 18 empty backfield Newman somehow gets away from one Modesto tackler and Rosa could make the play but his teammates rallied up and it's a short game for Newman pirates have a great defensive scheme today some guys are just coming in absolutely unblocked and taking shots on Newman and they'll continue with this empty backfield and you see how those both offer two tackles or in a high stance bubble screen and the Pirates rally to the football and instead of being a two-yard gain ends up being a nine yard gain oh and then we got to push after the play and another flag in its junior college football ladies and gentlemen and then guys running off the sideline we had two two players and then another penalty and I believe and they've got the ball boy running on the field trying to cause something so how would they decipher this well better be the announcer than the official at this point so here's the play Sherman with the tackle Nichols coming in to finish try to strip the ball and then Jason folia and they're doing the business but it's always the second guy that gets caught it's never the first guy I mean Foley it was literally trying to dislodge the football and then the kids arm from his socket but he didn't get caught a belief City College got caught and it's normally it's the second guy and then you say the coach well I didn't start it well yeah but you finished it with a penalty so a second half where the most popular plays have been penalties for both teams and they'll March this one off and let Jerry Robinson break it down for us so the place can account and then that so it'll be so it'll be third down and Francisco police no room for this for football I've seen weird things happen over here during football games I don't like when people are in the stance have an effect on the game and especially probably when they're not even capable of playing this great game but they involve themselves so coach Collins calls his first timeout Gary Bader has been the PA announcer here at City College of San deservedly slow today so you go from a fourth potential fourth down to now a first down on an unsportsmanlike conduct for the team captain that's inexcusable unexcusable to do that City College would be punting and the Pirates would get the football around there around the 50 to the 45 yard line so Sherman makes a great play but then he wants to comment on the receiver and it's gonna be another his knee and the training staff is out there but shallow cross but the Crosse is basically receivers going to push up the field for yards and come all the way across the formation and I believe this is more than a cramp for Andre Sherman the all-conference safety his taunting penalty about right here in the end of the third quarter extended the drive for the Rams and now it's going to be second and 18 so Sherman we'll head to the sidelines assisted by the trained athlete ik training staff but since coach Collins has gone to this empty back field up to backfill means the quarterback is all by his lonesome and it's a three by two set and they've just been working their West Coast comp West Coast concepts shallow crosses and deep in routes and screens and swing routes Newman gets out of the pocket throws into the end zone and it goes incomplete and I believe the receiver ran out of Bounce before that pass so it'll be third in what is for sure for doubt territory and and the ramps will then we've got a hurt player on the field I believe it's Johnson hurt after the catch in the red zone this year City College touchdown percentage or 22:37 59% that's and as far as red zone scoring they don't need a field goal here they definitely need a touchdown there 25 of 37 but 22 of 37 that's 15th in the state of California you're watching Magette no we'll keep it right here Johnson being helped to the sideline things have quieted down a little bit here in the stands since that I'm not playing football but I want to involve myself in the game attitude of what seems to be so prevalent unfortunately in today's athletics second and nine after shallow cross but Johnson who's been a very effective receiver on this Drive will be is on the sidelines pirates got to dial up something 31 left in the second quarter field goal by City College with a minute 11:35 left in the quarter and then we haven't had any scoring until Newman to bollard for an 18-yard touchdown Suz on for the Andre Sherman's taunting penalty Weaver with a quarterback keeper and no gain and you could start to feel the momentum swinging towards the Rams sideline now he is playing now he's been waiting for the fourth quarter table a.2 etat see with that last play looks like he's lined up offsides here he backs up but he hasn't played all game and played on that he's in there on in the fourth quarter and it's been a factor already speed option of the bass man but then we've got another holding penalty out in space by the Pirates [Music] so the Pirates had seven penalties in the first half and they've had that and more in the second half so bass picks up a big gain on first down now it is second and ten and the Pirates are playing again behind the chains two pirates led 21 zip polishes at one time and now it's 21 ten and the Pirates aren't in any type of hurry Weaver back to pass it's got gray wide open over the middle and then we've gotten they've got another penalty thrown by the line judge [Applause] [Music] and now I'm not doubting I'm not doubting that the Pirates might have held but normally you don't see the line judge when the ball is snapped on the opposite hash to call a holding penalty again I'm not saying it wasn't but normally the mechanics and the responsibilities of the official the line judge isn't in the balls all the way over on the opposite hash peculiar so now it's second and forever MJC now has fourteen penalties for a hundred and twelve yards bass loses four yards on that play and the feeding frenzy for City College continues a lot of guys standing around for MJC you got the lead you got a play like it and so far in the second half they have not those fourteen penalties and most of them have been back breakers extending drives nullifying big plays and when you play a quality football team like City College and given many opportunities not gonna work out real well quarterback draw for Weaver and picks up four yards and the Pirates will punt now I don't know if Weaver's gonna have to punt cuz Sherman is out [Music] the Pirates took over the ball here on their own 33 yard line and they lost a lot of yards Weaver with the punt and gets a good bounce gets a great bounce this ball will be spotted inside the 30-yard line it'll be spotted at the 27 yard line the ball continues to roll look at that and if you're city college why would you even get near the football I don't understand that that ball rolled an additional 9 yards [Music] I need that with my golf shot and I'm horrible at golf Jerry Robinson is not a stutterer there's just a problem with the PA system it's a sideline warning on City College so the Pirates flipped the field with Weaver's punt 55 yard punt by Weaver watch this ball roll rollin rollin rollin watch his ball it roll in rawhide and what's Mack doing in there he touches the football it's gonna be a turnover Newman over the middle of the field of pheromone olu olu but again there's a flag there's a penalty there was a play and then the back judge wants to get involved I don't know what the call is here maybe an armbar on the defensive back for Modesto so 15 penalties on Modesto [Music] [Applause] [Music] so unofficially a believe it's the fifth first down via penalties for City College Newman it's got a receiver downfield and it's incomplete if Jordan turns his turns his head to the football it could possibly intercept that goes incomplete it'll be second and ten someone on this pirates defense got to step up and make a play because of City College scores it's going to be a one score game and the Pirates offenses which racked up 311 yards in the first half has done Zippo in the second half pretty good coverage for Jordan but if he turns to that football he might intercept it easier easy for me to say up here in the booth empty backfield somebody got hit new Newman in the mouth he's just been slinging the ball hold the field here in the second half he's under pressure he flushes the pocket and throws that one away and ends up on his keister try to touch pass in to get that one into Frank Hall but didn't it's third and 10 now the Pirates have attempted to get off the field on third down but the last time they had a penalty and extended the drive see what happens here and they'll continue with that empty backfield three by two set for City College single receipt a single safety deep as trained ickle x' mandala day who talks up to the line of scrimmage but he'll drop into coverage fully on with the rush on newman misses the tackle Newman falls a deep he's got a receiver but then it's Ennis now incomplete folia with the pressure and the near interception by Kendrick bond goes through his hands but it's a stop for Modesto and no penalty after the play to say they needed that stop is to say that I need to be on a diet and it's the both those sense of urgency 'z and then we've got a procedure penalty on City College so Porter will be back deep for this punt by Jarius Woodson took over the punny duties on October 13th verse Lanie Porter's passes feet set at the 40-yard line he'll move up a little bit kicking into the wind here short kick and then they'll just let it roll and see how far this one rolls not such the lock pirates will take over on their own 25-yard line and the pirates don't necessarily need to score they need to put together some first downs kind of get the momentum back on their sideline broaden those shoulders up a little bit [Music] pirates are in a great position here to gain a couple of first downs they bring in the extra back and it's a run with bass and the safeties and everybody stepped up and read that play quickly so the coach divers is brought in the extra fullback Thomas wood offensive lineman then he comes out of the game and the Pirates will reset it's almost like they're playing a game of minimized the possessions for City College second and nine for the Pirates need a big play on offense they're going the wrong way good Porter with the TfL for the Rams he had eight tackles and two and a half sacks against Modesto in the last game he's got 15 now 16 tackles for losses on the season Anthony Porter sophomore linebacker third and 14 5 on the play clock Weaver back to pass he's flushed from the pocket and it's another holding penalty for the pirates and it'll be a three-yard loss and coach Collins gonna decline the penalty so the Pirates first drive of the second half they moved the ball but then didn't finish the drive and Modesto tried a substitution mass confusion but what happened the official didn't blow the ball in play so the massive flow of red jerseys going to and fro the Pirates were able to take advantage they wanted to and pick up a twelfth man on the field yeah the the referees got to blow the play clock in and blow the play in so almost have the same heist area and then Weaver who punted earlier the season so he's this isn't foreign to him fourth and 17 and you want to get this off you're going to have it delay the game and they do [Music] if the Pirates win this game put this on youtube under the definition of winning ugly search YouTube just a lot of penalties I believe that's number eight maybe nineteen for the Pirates and then we were is roughed and there will be an automatic first down that's not running into that's a rough e Pelle and that'll be a pirates first down see there's going to be a point when you're a player understand the situation you're gonna get the ball in great field position then you try to be a hero and then what happens you end up looking like a zero you gotta know the time and situation if it's the last play of the half or the game you need to go and be aggressive there but if they don't call this roughing the kicker an automatic first down I'd be very interesting to get a close-up shot of coach divers and his reaction and the pirates get a needed much-needed break so there's the holding penalty right it's in the middle of the field and then the roughing the kicker on Jack Weaver and City College would have got that ball right around the Modesto's 45 yard line but they don't and Saif and Modesto will take over I appreciate players trying to make plays I've coached football for over 25 years but there's also got to be a no no wind to hold them the wind to fold them we were back to pass and he throws it deep down to Nelson and it goes incomplete now if Weaver would have just run that football he picks up at least ten yards again I get it he wants to make the play their offense is struggling wants to take a shot but their goal here should be first downs yeah you want to score but get first downs and chew that clock bass man back in the game gray : can do two at the bottom of your screen Weaver bass offset to him and they feed the bass that's how you do it the 55th Foley inside the 30-yard line Devon Pass hashtag feed the bass that is the big play that the Pirates needed and the ball spotted inside the 30 down to the 29 yard line and then they'll bring in their heavyset with the extra offensive lineman disguised as a fullback and the Pirates will work that clock Nelson bounces it outside gets a block from the wide receiver core and he picks up a first down not a pirate - playing with a little bit of confidence and that ball will be spotted on the 15 yard line Modesto has been shut out since the 14 31 mark in the second quarter they're knocking on the door of the endzone and coach divers yes he wants to score but at the same time he's gonna do his best dairy impression and you Modesto fans can appreciate that they'll snap this ball consistently under the five-second mark in the play clock Nelson and then we've got a fumble a ball loose but I believe it was ruled dead oh now the official threw a flag the balls loose the players are going after it there was a little bit of contact by the city player but it was nothing fraudulent nothing dirty about it there's a point where you got to call a penalty and there's a point where you just eat the flag and that that flag being thrown in my opinion and I don't mean to be critical of the officials they have a very difficult job but on that particular play they're being a little overprotective of the game and in Tyreke Mac wasn't again wasn't doing anything horribly there and then he's probably gonna dig himself a worse hole right now so the Pirates are on the 5-yard line Nelson still in the backfield and Thomas wood in as a fullback Nelson behind Weaver and the Pirates will continue to milk the clock Nelson crushed by the Rams defense got a punch it in if you're Modesto here thanks Captain Obvious and as well as milking the clock the Pirates have done a good job they took the ad the ball here with this drive at the 9:15 mark we're just under that we're just at the five-minute mark here are close to it in the fourth quarter and I think coach divers is gonna let this one roll all the way down and call a timeout no they run the play Weaver back to pass don't want to take a sack here jack and he does at the 14 yard line and then City College calls the timeout I believe but here's in play along here you'd kind of you think maybe you want Weaver to throw that football away but it's gonna stop the clock he takes the sack yeah they lose some yardage but he force it but what ends up happening is City College calls a timeout so something accomplished out of a bad play now it's right now they're in dye Oxford go arrange you take another sack not going to be that a high percentage of a field goal attempt but dioxis has been pretty effective within that 40 42 yard range right now would be a 31 yard attempt if the Pirates don't pick up any yardage but if Weaver takes a big loss so they have a trending holding penalty then makes that much of a longer attempt and remember the pirates early in the game had a fourth down and instead of kicking trying to kick the field goal they went for it and the pass fell incomplete so 455 left here from City College of San Francisco in a second half penalty filled ballgame nelson emotion touchdown on the fly sweep darris nelson from 14 yards and the pirates potentially pushed this one out of reach with that touchdown play darris nelson on the fly sweep rarely ambassador been playing on the field at the same time this one used bass is the decoy and nelson with the run and the pirates getting much-needed touchdown and Dayak with the extra point attempt and it's good and Modesto lead City College of San Francisco 28 to 10 you're watching Modesto Junior College of San Francisco for the all-conference linebacker [Music] Numan over the middle auto trade Nicholls tre was trying to figure out where am I gonna return this before he catches the football would have been is I believe his 12th career interception but it's all for naught and that one lofted in the air dripping with gravy and train ickle 'he's had that one had a bead on it third and 10 newman throws a dime and it's completed to the 39 yard line Johnson who had been hurt early in the game comes back and makes another reception ball spotted on the 39 and the City College Rams will line up right on the football and another completion to frank hall who's close to that thousand yards and receptions for the season his big game of the year had nine receptions for 243 yards against Chabot and three touchdown receptions Newman decides to run this then he goes back the guy wide open and it's a touchdown buddy I like to see that one on replay but to say that is a busted coverage would be a understatement Linda Ronstadt wrote a song about that defense of coverage and it's called Blue Bayou so a quick score less than a minute and six seconds on the score and the extra point is good and it's 20 to 16 and there's going to be an onside kick attempt [Music] [Music] so Newman to patent [Music] so Newman now has 31 touchdowns and the hands team is on for Modesto that means your guys with the best hands on the team you got to be on on side alert and if you're Modesto what's your goal just get the ball you don't want to return it you don't want to do anything with it just recover the kick trying to do anything else is foolish and with city college with only one timeout if Modesto gets the football a couple of first downs to win this game and they recover the onside kick and they sure handed Tommy all Owen can do do gets his best kickoff return of the season goes for no yardage but just recovers the onside kick and the Pirates will take over on the 44 yard line with 344 left in the fourth quarter bass bounces outside stays inbounds drags the tackler and gets ten yards Devon bass and all these sophomore has been such a pleasure of of covering these their games the last two years and both seasons the Pirates got off to slow starts and why well they're playing exceptional schedule and just seen believe six or seven out of the Pirates opponents all playing postseason this year and one of them laning is planned for the state championship next Saturday well the Pirates figured well we haven't had a penalty in a while so let's know they weren't doing that I'm being sarcastic procedure penalty for the Pirates so I think we're probably probably close to the 20 to 21 penalty number here for the Pirates clocks running bass in the game with Nelson the last time they had this combo they faked a bass and gave it to Nelson on the fly sweep and this time city college was not fold and City College will call a timeout off that tackle by Porter and I believe that is the last timeout for City College of San Francisco so if the Pirates can pick up a first down on this third and six play they're gonna really make a big step in locking up this coverage they've done a pretty good job of that and balanced attack on offense running and passing bass and he's tackled Sammy knives e in the backfield with the tackle and it'll be fourth down and by the time the pirates kicked this ball it'll be under the 2-minute mark now the pirates with Weaver with his ability to punt they can appear that they're gonna go for it and still have the short kick so the Rams have to respect that and that ball goes out of bounds and we'll see where it's spotted 29 yard putt by Weaver ball spotted at the 10 yard line with 153 left and want to thank all of our little late there but the officials didn't call it so it's not a penalty and if they throw a flag on that call there's a little makeup do we have that late hit well don't wasn't a hit because they didn't call it but you be the judge and tell me this is unnecessary roughness or not plays over and Newman Sprint's left and then he's under pressure eaten with a hurry and a completion to halt
