We did something like this once for a high school economics class on game theory and I thought up the same strategy.
Didn't work though cuz the girl paired with me just decided to steal anyway so 'we both would get nothing' :c

wouldn't say he "destroyed" the game show. This is obviously a foreseeable tactic. The show just wants the drama of the negotiation and the reveal, which they got.
Even if this becomes common practice for every contestant on the show, eventually some wise guy will come along and steal the money anyways.
I remember one of these where a woman pure twizzled a man around her finger then stole it all. Felt so bad for the guy even the audience booed her

This was edited to bring it down to something they could air. There were all sorts of issues. With producers running around checking to see if they still had to pay out, if the guy made a deal to share winnings after the show.
It's an interesting approach to the prisoners dilemma. I honestly don't know if I'd be able to convince them.
