story from abide I'm the name Lara thanks for joining me tonight for this story from the scriptures titled Your Guardian God tonight we will be hearing about our great and powerful God and His strong protective presence in our lives he is an ever-present help in times of trouble he is mighty to save and he is the Good Shepherd keeping watch over his flock day and night at night the scripture at the heart of this sleep story is from Psalm 121 verse 4. the English Standard Version exhorts us behold he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep so while you fall asleep precious listener you can completely rest in the knowledge that the guardian of Heaven himself keeps watch over you you are safe in his arms you are completely safely tucked in his embrace even though the world may feel like it's caving in around you at times he is in control he is protecting you and your loved ones and he is blessing you with a sound sleep tonight you can give all your worries to him they are burdens you aren't designed to carry he wants to take care of them while you rest in him you may fall asleep like a trusting child knowing your protective father is working all things for good just as King David experienced his Guardian God in many miraculous and ordinary ways we will be delving deeper into the nature of our Guardian God through the word and having your eyes open to his constant protection and faithful guardianship as we start to prepare for our sleep story I invite you to make yourself snug in bed allow your head and neck to sink into your pillows relax your eyes as they succumb to sleep by letting them softly close relax your jaw and forehead and all the muscles in your face breathe gently in and out feel any tension from the day gently dissolve with each exhalation let go of all the tightness in your back and shoulders and in your chest and stomach continue scanning your body bringing your awareness to any tight Sensations where stress has collected let them go relax the muscles all the way down to your spine gently release all tension in your arms finally move through your legs down your calves and ankles all the way to the tips of your toes inhale and with each exhale you'll find that your body will relax just a bit more come to Stillness be still and know that he is God bring your awareness to the presence of the Holy Spirit within you and around you he is sent to guard you he is alert so you can fall completely asleep he will take care of you day and night so that you may live in his rest not only as you sleep but also as you wake as you listen to this story tonight let the knowledge that he is protecting you and providing for your needs calm your anxieties continue to breathe gently as you meditate on him his goodness his kindness his strength and your weakness his power and your vulnerability Breathe In and Out in and out and allow your breathing to settle into your normal rhythm and join me as we pray dear strong Guardian God we want to start by coming under your protection tonight we are weak and you are strong thank you for giving us so many stories in your word to show us that you are our guard and Steward and the preserver of Our Lives thank you that you never stand idly by when troubles come almighty God I pray that you commander of Angel Armies will fill this precious child with the peace that surpasses understanding they are under your care and under your loving gaze it is your good pleasure to watch over them as they rest in you you alone could protect them when no one else is around as your child listens to this story tonight may they not only hear about your guardianship but genuinely experience your keeping power in their lives May their anxieties disappear and give away to trust in you may they have total confidence in you as their strong and mighty deliverer through the power of your spirit in the name of your son Jesus amen if you have been walking with God for any length of time you will probably have had moments of Doubt when troubles and attacks have come at you and you have wondered if God was there or if he was busy taking care of seemingly more important matters let me encourage you right at the outset that your life and every tiny detail is intrinsically important to him even things that you feel are insignificant in your life are intensely significant to him there might be many thoughts swirling in your head in those difficult times of trouble and doubt Chief among them being the question can you trust him with your life with your loved ones with your needs and desires will he show up and protect you when you need him most My Hope and prayer is that tonight's story will open your eyes to the hundreds of times each day where he is fiercely guarding you and protecting you he drives home this point about his nature in the scripture so often because he knows that we will have these questions but precious child he is your good father and guardian God as our foundation verse for this story reads indeed He Who Watches Over Israel never Slumbers or sleeps he not only guards you as you sleep but he guards you as you go through each day he is not passive he is actively protecting you allow me to read over you the whole of Psalm 121. and listen to the psalmist's Revelation about our Guardian God the New Living Translation puts it this way I look up to the mountains this might help come from there my help comes from the Lord who made Heaven and Earth he will not let you stumble the one who watches over you will not slumber indeed He Who Watches Over Israel never Slumbers or sleeps the Lord himself Watches Over You the Lord stands beside you as your protective shade the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon at night the Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life the Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go both now and forever this Psalm clearly shows us that he is ever watchful he watches over unite and day day and night and he does not get tired or weary and taking care of you just as a father eagerly watches his little toddler as they play on a playground so your father Watches Over You gives us free will to make choices and freedom to explore and learn and that means we can make mistakes but he is there to catch us and keep us from falling as we read in verse 3 he will not let you stumble and Psalm 66 also reiterates to us who keeps us in life and does not allow our feet to slip he is not an overprotective father who overrules our free will which is one of the most incredible aspects of his other worldly love he is all-powerful and could control us if he wanted but because his love is pure and undefiled love he will never hinder our freedom of choice but when we use our Free Will and destructive ways he already has a plan to make each mistake into a lesson which will turn into a blessing when it draws us back to him he is promising you in this psalm that the Lord himself Watches Over You the Lord stands beside you as your protective shade the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon at night the Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life the Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go both now and forever the Lord God Almighty himself Watches Over You let that sink into your spirit he could simply charge his angels to do so and he does charge them thus but he himself actually watches you is not a distant or pass of God who simply delegates your care to his ministering angels it's watching over you not only in this life where there is an enemy after you but also in the next life when all will be set right because he loves you that much he watches in total love and devotion you are a prized possession he could not keep his eyes off you even if he tried he passionately loves you he never ever turns his back on you his eyes are like Eagle's eyes and even if he feels far away sometimes he is actually closer than the breath in your lungs nothing in your life goes unnoticed by him if you are going through a season even now where you feel exposed to attack and troubles and even deserted by your guardian God let me encourage you with prophetic utterance from Jeremiah in chapter 31 verse 9. with weeping they will come and by supplication I will lead them I will make them walk by streams of waters on a straight path in which they will not stumble for I am a father to Israel you can insert your name where he says Israel because you are God's chosen one too he will lead you by streams of water in other words God will lead you out of the temptest and storms and into Stillness and peace and he will meet your needs although there are ups and downs in our journey father God would lead you in straight paths where you will not stumble because he is your papa God and he is not only your dad but he is the king of the universe and the commander of Angel Armies personally gives you his holy spirit to guard you every second of every day as well as commanding Untold numbers of angelic host to keep watch over and minister to you as well that is an incredible thought let's listen to King David's revelation of his Guardian God in Psalm 91 verse 6 and the good news translation whoever goes to the Lord for safety whoever remains under the protection of the almighty can say to him you are my Defender and protector you are my God in you I trust he will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases he will cover you with his wings you will be safe in his care his faithfulness will protect and defend you you need not fear any dangers at night or sudden attacks during the day or the plagues that strike in the dark where the evils that kill in daylight there is nothing to fear when he is near and he is near every single moment you can be encouraged that when attacks have come at you and when you've wondered where God was just know that he was with you the whole time he was in the furnace of Affliction with you furnace that purifies the refiners fire and be comforted that he has counted your sorrows and collected every single tear Psalm 56 8 tells us you keep track of all of my sorrows you have collected all my tears in your bottle you have recorded each one in your book and imagine the protection that we haven't seen with our eyes there have been times Beyond number when the Lord has stopped sickness and accidents and dangers of all kinds from coming near you you will only know in eternity how many times as angels have shielded both you and your loved ones from multitudes of Harms just as it happened with Elisha in Second Kings 6 17. Elijah prayed oh Lord open his eyes and let him see the Lord opened the young man's eyes and when he looked up he saw the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and Chariots of Fire he is so good let's praise God right now for his goodness father God our Defender we're undone with gratitude that you have protected us even when we didn't realize it open our eyes to see when you are guarding us and guiding us make us aware of your presence that you have assigned angels to protect us for we read in Psalm 34 7. the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them that's us thank you that you will Deliver Us and you never fail us and if we doubt your goodness it's because we only see through our limited viewpoint you are so great and so mighty we can run to you and find safety in Jesus name amen as you lie here safe and cozy in your bed feel yourself going to the Lord for safety Psalm 91 promises that if you do you will remain under the protection of the almighty God under his protection there is nothing to fear so come precious one come and snuggle under his wings even as you snuggle under your soft covers he spreads his protection over you like a blanket Psalm 5 11 says but let all who take refuge in you rejoice let them ever sing for joy and spread your protection over them that those who love your name make salt in you with the eyes of faith see him spreading his blanket of protection over you tonight nothing will harm you when you hide under his wings four as we read in psalm 91. you need not fear any dangers at night or sudden attacks during the day or the plagues that strike in the dark or the evils that kill in daylight there is nothing to be anxious about either at night or in the day for your guardian God fights for you in Deuteronomy 3 7 it says don't be afraid of them for the Lord your God fights for you when King David was being hunted by men who were literally out to kill him he utters a faith-filled declaration in Psalm 138 7. though I walk in the midst of trouble you preserve my life you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies in your right hand delivers me let's pray their beloved father even when it's hard to see you moving on our behalf we trust that you are moving please help us activate our faith to trust you when we can we cannot Trace you and even when the attacks might seem like they are winning over us you are our Guardian God and just judge and you tell us in your word that you will have Vengeance on all our enemies so we will never be afraid thank you that even when we like David walk right in the very middle of trouble you preserve and guard Our Lives you stretch out your loving hand over us and Deliver Us from all our enemies but we wait for deliverance in areas of Our Lives May our trust in You Never Be Shaken in your son's matchless name we pray amen keep dwelling on the fact that he watches over you without the need to sleep without even blinking we know from scripture that he even watches over the smallest Birds even birds like sparrows which are seen as pests so how much more does he watch over and care for you Matthew 10 29-31 says for only a penny you can buy Two Sparrows yet not one Sparrow falls to the ground without your father's consent as for you even the hairs on your head have all been counted so do not be afraid you are worth much more than many sparrows you are far more value to God than sparrows he did not send his son to die for them but he loved you so much that he asked his only son to die for you this is your value to Father God you are of utmost significance to him as lyrics to the old classic hymn say why should I feel discouraged why should the Shadows come why should my heart feel lonely and long for heaven and home when Jesus is my portion a constant friend is he His Eye Is on the Sparrow and I know he watches over me His Eye Is on the Sparrow and I know he watches me foreign I invite you to imagine yourself even as one of these little sparrows imagine if you could live without a care in the world like them so present in the moment not regretting the past or worrying anxiously about the future not letting any doubts about God overshadow the present just simply loving the gift of the Here and Now fluttering freely in the sky blissfully unaware of any attacks coming against them this kind of peace that surpasses understanding is not only possible for the birds Jesus uses that metaphor because he is also telling us that it is also an offer to us we can live in this kind of peace but it's even more potent for us because unlike The Sparrows we know we have a guardian God protecting us at every turn providing for every need watching us like a loving parent Never Letting our feet stumble King David had a revelation of this truth about God even when he was on the run from King Saul living for many years as a fugitive he writes under the inspiration of the holy spirit in Psalm 59 which was written by David at the time King Saul set guards at his home to capture and kill him oh God my strength I will sing your Praises for you are my place of safety my God is changeless in his love for me and he will come and help me he will let me see my wish come true upon my enemies don't kill them for my people soon forget such lessons but but stagger them with your power and bring them to their knees bring them to the dust O Lord our Shield he didn't turn around and get angry and give up believing in God as many of us might do but set his heart to trust as guardian God while staring death in the face he even chose to sing praises in the middle of the crazy for he finishes the psalm but as for me I will sing each morning about your power and mercy for you have been my high tower of Refuge place of safety in the day of my distress oh my strength to you I sing my Praises for you are my high tower of safety my god of Mercy let's close in prayer Guardian God and good father we love you we trust you help us to be like King David trusting in you in the middle of Dire Straits help us to even sing praises to you in the middle of distress thank you for watching over us and drawing us under your protective wings may we never doubt your goodness may we go through life with a Carefree trust that those little sparrows do knowing that all our needs and desires will be met in you and by you and you never take your eyes off us may we constantly feel your loving presence guarding us and those we love through the ups and downs of life thank you for leading this precious listener and the watches in total love and devotion you are a prized possession he could not keep his eyes off you even if he tried he passionately loves you [Music] he never ever turns his back on you his eyes are like Eagle's eyes and even if he feels far away sometimes he is actually closer than the breath in your lungs nothing in your life goes unnoticed by him if you are going through a season even now where you feel exposed to attack and troubles and even deserted by your guardian God let me encourage you with the prophetic utterance from Jeremiah in chapter 31 verse 9. with weeping they will come and by supplication I will lead them I will make them walk by streams of waters on a straight path in which they will not stumble for I am a father to Israel you can insert your name where he says Israel because you are God's chosen one too he will lead you by streams of water in other words God will lead you out of the temptest and storms and into Stillness and peace and he will meet your needs although there are ups and downs in our journey father God would lead you in straight paths where you will not stumble because he is your papa God and he is not only your dad but he is the king of the universe and the commander of Angel Armies he personally gives you his holy spirit to guard you every second of every day as well as commanding Untold numbers of angelic hosts to keep watch over and minister to you as well that is an incredible thought let's listen to King David's revelation of his Guardian God in Psalm 91 verse 6 and the good news translation whoever goes to the Lord for safety whoever remains under the protection of the almighty can say to him you are my Defender and protector you are my God in you I trust he will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases he will cover you with his wings you will be safe in his care his faithfulness will protect and defend you you need not fear any dangers at night or sudden attacks during the day or the plagues that strike in the dark were the evils that kill in daylight there is nothing to fear when he is near and he is near every single moment you can be encouraged that when attacks have come at you and when you've wondered where God was just know that he was with you the whole time he was in the furnace of Affliction with you furnace that purifies the Refiner's Fire and be comforted that he has counted your sorrows and collected every single tear Psalm 56 8 tells us you keep track of all of my sorrows you have collected all my tears in your bottle you have recorded each one in your book and imagine the protection that we haven't seen with our eyes there have been times Beyond number when the Lord has stopped sickness and accidents and dangers of all kinds from coming near you you will only know in eternity how many times as angels have shielded both you and your loved ones from multitudes of Harms just as it happened with Elisha in Second Kings 6 17. Elisha prayed oh Lord open his eyes and let him see the Lord opened the young man's eyes and when he looked up he saw the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and Chariots of Fire he is so good praise God right now for his goodness father God our Defender we're undone with gratitude that you have protected us even when we didn't realize it open our eyes to see when you are guarding us and guiding us make us aware of your presence that you have assigned angels to protect us for we read in Psalm 34 7. the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them that's us thank you that you will Deliver Us and you never fail us and if we doubt your goodness it's because we only see through our limited viewpoint you are so great and so mighty we can run to you and find safety in Jesus name amen as you lie here safe and cozy in your bed feel yourself going to the Lord for safety Psalm 91 promises that if you do you will remain under the protection of the almighty God under his protection there is nothing to fear so come precious one come and snuggle under his wings even as you snuggle under your soft covers he spreads his protection over you like a blanket Psalm 5 11 says but let all who take refuge in you rejoice let them ever sing for joy and spread your protection over them that those who love your name make salt in you with the eyes of Faith see him spreading his blanket of protection over you tonight nothing will harm you when you hide under his wings [Music] four as we read in psalm 91. you need not fear any dangers at night or sudden attacks during the day or the plagues that strike in the dark or the evils that kill in daylight there is nothing to be anxious about either at night or in the day for your guardian God fights for you in Deuteronomy 3 7 it says don't be afraid of them for the Lord your God fights for you when King David was being hunted by men who were literally out to kill him he utters a faith-filled declaration in Psalm 138 7. though I walk in the midst of trouble you preserve my life you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies in your right hand delivers me let's pray dear beloved father even when it's hard to see you moving on our behalf we trust that you are moving please help us activate our faith to trust you when we cannot Trace you and even when the attacks might seem like they are winning over us you are our Guardian God and just judge and you tell us in your word that you will have Vengeance on all our enemies so we will never be afraid thank you that even when we like David walk right in the very middle of trouble you preserve and guard Our Lives you stretch out your loving hand over us and Deliver Us from all our enemies but we wait for deliverance in areas of Our Lives May our trust in You Never Be Shaken in your son's matchless name we pray amen keep dwelling on the fact that he watches over you without the need to sleep without even blinking we know from scripture that he even watches over the smallest Birds even birds like sparrows which are seen as pests so how much more does he watch over and care for you Matthew 10 29-31 says for only a penny you can buy Two Sparrows yet not one Sparrow falls to the ground without your father's consent as for you even the hairs on your head have all been counted so do not be afraid you are worth much more than many sparrows you are far more value to God than sparrows he did not send his son to die for them but he loved you so much that he asked his only son to die for you this is your value to Father God you are of utmost significance to him as lyrics to the old classic hymn say why should I feel discouraged why should the Shadows come why should my heart feel lonely and long for heaven and home when Jesus is my portion a constant friend is he His Eye Is on the Sparrow and I know he watches over me His Eye Is on the Sparrow and I know he watches me I invite you to imagine yourself even as one of these little sparrows imagine if you could live without a care in the world like them so present in the moment not regretting the past or worrying anxiously about the future not letting any doubts about God overshadow the present just simply loving the gift of the Here and Now fluttering freely in the sky blissfully unaware of any attacks coming against them this kind of peace that surpasses understanding is not only possible for the birds Jesus uses that metaphor because he is also telling us that it is also an offer to us we can live in this kind of peace but it's even more potent for us because unlike The Sparrows we know we have a guardian God protecting us at every turn providing for every need watching us like a loving parent Never Letting our feet stumble King David had a revelation of this truth about God even when he was on the run from King Saul living for many years as a fugitive he writes under the inspiration of the holy spirit in Psalm 59 which was written by David at the time King Saul set guards at his home to capture and kill him oh God my strength I will sing your Praises for you are my place of safety my God is changeless in his love for me and he will come and help me he will let me see my wish come true upon my enemies don't kill them for my people soon forget such lessons but stagger them with your power and bring them to their knees bring them to the dust O Lord our Shield he didn't turn around and get angry and give up believing in God as many of us might do but set his heart to trust his Guardian God while staring death in the face he even chose to sing praises in the middle of the crazy for he finishes the psalm but as for me I will sing each morning about your power and mercy for you have been my high tower of Refuge place of safety in the day of my distress oh my strength to you I sing my Praises for you are my high tower of safety my god of Mercy let's close in prayer Guardian God and good father we love you we trust you help us to be like King David trusting in you in the middle of Dire Straits help us to even sing praises to you in the middle of distress thank you for watching over us and drawing us under your protective wings may we never doubt your goodness may we go through life with a Carefree trust that those little sparrows do knowing that all our needs and desires will be met in you and by you and you never take your eyes off us may we constantly feel your loving presence guarding us and those we love through the ups and downs of life thank you for leading this precious listener and the deeper without slumbering or sleeping so that you can rest in safety now listen to another story let's start tonight's story by imagining a day in the life of Thomas Chisholm he rises in the morning in the small house he shares with his wife Catherine and his two daughters Ruth and Dorothy the girls still sleep as he gets ready for work but Catherine is up and making breakfast ready to start today with him before seeing him out the door it's the early 1900s and small town New Jersey so the 57 year old Dons his black suit typical dress for a businessman he eats breakfast with Catherine reading scripture with her and praying that they would remain faithful to the Lord all day long and for his daughters to be well and happy and continue in service to God then he kisses Catherine on the cheek puts on his hat and Begins the short walk to his insurance office the wide tree-lined streets bustle at this time at the morning with other suit clad businessmen heading to their offices and secretaries in their ankle-length Tresses and short-heeled shoes hurrying to beat them there the chattering of the early birds and the trees as the Sun Crest over the buildings adds to the Symphony of the starting day he's so grateful for another day his health has not been good for so long his career as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus had been cut short after just a year because of it but God has been so good to him he has a steady job he has a loving family he's able to write the poems that he loves and he always has food on the table and a roof over his head that was more than could be said for a lot of people these words would have flowed from his innermost being Great Is Thy Faithfulness o God my father there is no shadow of turning with thee thou changes not thy compassions they fail not as thou Hast been about forever will be foreign Thomas takes his meal in the park across from his office looking up at the Blue Sky with scattered clouds he remembers what it was like just a few short weeks ago snow still land the ground now the flowers were pushing through and beginning to show their color all over the park the sun was noticeably warmer and these words formed in Thomas's mind summer and winter and Springtime and harvest sun moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature and manifold witness to thy great faithfulness mercy and love contemplating these things Ecclesiastes 1 verses 4 to 6 comes to mind a generation goes and a generation comes but the Earth remains forever the sun rises and the sun goes down and hastens to the place where it rises the wind blows to the South and goes around to the north around and around goes the wind and on its circuits the wind returns no one wonders if the sun will come up in the west it always rises in the east and throughout the day it makes its circuit to cross the sky always every day even when clouds cover it from our view we know it's there Faithfully dependably Thomas thinks about the guys who are in Yellowstone Park named for its faithful eruptions Old Faithful can always be counted on to spew forth its steaming water every 44 to 125 minutes every single day and how much more Faithful is our God Lamentations 3 verse 22-23 says the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases his mercies never come to an end they are new every morning great is your faithfulness as his day comes to a close Thomas thinks about what he accomplished that day the people he helped there was the elderly Widow who was so thankful for the life insurance policy her husband had taken out it would help her to be able to keep her home there was the family that had lost her home to Fire and were grateful for the provision of the funds they needed to find a new home and replace all their possessions Thomas was even thankful for the patience the Lord had given him as he talked with the disgruntled customer and helped him understand what his insurance policy covered he didn't always keep his temper but God was faithful even in those times to forgive and a guide the next stanza of his poem reflects that pardon for sin and a peace that endureth thine own dear presence to chair and to guide strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow blessings all mine with ten thousand beside Psalm 130 verses 3 and 4 says if You O Lord should Mark iniquities oh Lord who could stand but with you there is forgiveness that you may Thomas was so very thankful for that forgiveness he hadn't known Jesus until he was 27 years old so much of his life had been lived for himself even though he had served as a teacher still his thoughts and plans were his own they had not been centered upon his creator that day he had turned his life over to Jesus and changed everything as the sun sets Thomas strolls toward home gratefulness in his heart for all that the Lord had provided as the brightly colored automobiles chug down the street Thomas smiles he might never earn enough to own one of those newfangled vehicles but he is content he watches the orange and red colors of the sunset fill the darkening sky as he walks he rejoices and God his creator he knows he's going home to a joy-filled house the good smell of dinner Catherine is cooking in the kitchen his daughters happy to see him oh he is blessed many times his ill health had kept him from even being able to rise from his bed to go to work today was not one of those days and he was thankful he loved to write words of praise to God and he was thankful for the job that allowed him to earn a steady income he loved hearing his words put to music and sung in the church the refrain for his most famous hymn flowed from his pen great is thy faithfulness great is thy faithfulness morning by morning new mercies I see all I have needed by hand hath provided great is thy faithfulness Lord unto me as you rest tonight let your mind wander through your day the home in which you Rose this morning the food on your table the job or the school or the home that the Lord has called you to work in you may not think your life or your circumstances are anything special but God has brought you to them and he will use them and bless them consider how God has provided for you today and let that bring you sweet rest in the morning when you rise renewed and refreshed by your sleep see that his mercies are new with the day Moses heard of God's faithfulness from God's own mouth in Exodus 34 6 the Lord passed before him and proclaimed the Lord the Lord a god merciful and gracious slow to anger and abounding and steadfast love and faithfulness Deuteronomy 32 4 proclaims The Rock his work is perfect for all his ways are Justice a god of faithfulness and without iniquity just and upright he is he is faithful he is faithful hear the words of God's faithfulness from psalm 89. I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord forever with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations for I said steadfast love will be built up forever in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness you have said I have made a covenant with my chosen one I have sworn to David my servant I will establish your Offspring forever and build your throne for all generations sailor let the heavens praise your wonders O Lord your faithfulness and the Assembly of the Holy ones for who in the skies can be compared to the Lord who among the Heavenly beings is like the Lord a god greatly to be feared in the counsel of the Holy ones and awesome above all who are around him O Lord God of hosts who is mighty As You Are O Lord with your faithfulness all around you you rule the Raging of the sea when its waves rise you still them the heavens are yours the Earth also is yours the world and all that is in it you have founded them the north the South you have created them Dabber and Hermann joyously praise your name you have a mighty arm strong is your hand High your right hand righteousness and Justice are the foundation of your throne steadfast love and faithfulness go before you blessed are the people who know the festival shout who walk O Lord in the light of your face who exalt in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted for you are the of this sleep story is from Psalm 121 verse 4. the English Standard Version exhorts us behold he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep so while you fall asleep precious listener you can completely rest in the knowledge that the guardian of Heaven himself keeps watch over you you are safe in his arms you are completely safely tucked in his embrace even though the world may feel like it's caving in around you at times he is in control he is protecting you and your loved ones and he is blessing you with a sound sleep tonight you can give all your worries to him they are burdens you aren't designed to carry he wants to take care of them while you rest in him you may fall asleep like a trusting child knowing your protective father is working all things for good just as King David experienced his Guardian God in many miraculous and ordinary ways we will be delving deeper into the nature of our Guardian God through the word and having your eyes open to his constant protection and faithful guardianship as we start to prepare for our sleep story I invite you to make yourself snug in bed allow your head and neck this sink into your pillows relax your eyes as they succumb to sleep by letting them softly close relax your jaw and forehead and all the muscles in your face breathe gently in and out feel any tension from the day gently dissolve with each exhalation let go of all the tightness in your back and shoulders and in your chest and stomach [Music] continue scanning your body bringing your awareness to any tight Sensations where stress has collected let them go relax the muscles all the way down to your spine gently release all tension in your arms finally move through your legs down your calves and ankles all the way to the tips of your toes inhale and with each exhale you'll find that your body will relax just a bit more come to Stillness be still and know that he is God bring your awareness to the presence of the Holy Spirit within you and around you he is sent to guard you he is alert so you can fall completely asleep he will take care of you day and night so that you may live in his rest not only as you sleep but also as you wake as you listen to this story tonight let the knowledge that he is protecting you and providing for your needs calm your anxieties continue to breathe gently as you meditate on him his goodness his kindness his strength and your weakness his power and your vulnerability breathe in in and out and allow your breathing to settle into your normal rhythm and join me as we pray [Music] dear strong Guardian God we want to start by coming under your protection tonight we are weak and you are strong thank you for giving us so many stories in your word to show us that you are our guard and Steward and the preserver of Our Lives thank you that you never stand idly by when troubles come almighty God I pray that you commander of Angel Armies will fill this precious child with a peace that surpasses understanding they are under your care and under your loving gaze it is your good pleasure to watch over them as they rest in you you alone could protect them when no one else is around as your child will probably have had moments of Doubt when troubles and attacks have come at you and you have wondered if God was there or if he was busy taking care of seemingly more important matters let me encourage you right at the outset that your life and every tiny detail is intrinsically important to him even things that you feel are insignificant in your life are intensely significant to him there might be many thoughts swirling in your head in those difficult times of trouble and doubt among them being the question can you trust him with your life with your loved ones with your needs and desires will he show up and protect you when you need him most My Hope and prayer is that tonight's story will open your eyes to the hundreds of times each day where he is fiercely guarding you and protecting you he drives home this point about his nature in the scriptures so often because he knows that we will have these questions but precious child he is your good father and guardian God as our foundation verse for this story reads indeed He Who Watches Over Israel never Slumbers or sleeps he not only guards you as you sleep but he guards you as you go through each day he is not passive he is actively protecting you allow me to read over you the whole of Psalm 121. and listen to the psalmist's Revelation about our Guardian God the New Living Translation puts it this way I look up to the mountains does my help come from there my help comes from the Lord who made Heaven and Earth he will not let you stumble the one who watches over you will not slumber indeed He Who Watches Over choices and freedom to explore and learn that means we can make mistakes but he is there to catch us and keep us from falling as we read in verse 3 he will not let you stumble in Psalm 66 also reiterates to us who keeps us in life and does not allow our feet to slip [Music] he is not an overprotective father who overrules our free will which is one of the most incredible aspects of his other worldly love he is all-powerful and could control us if he wanted but because his love is pure and undefiled love he will never hinder our freedom of choice but when we use our Free Will and destructive ways he already has a plan to make each mistake into a lesson which will turn into a blessing when it draws us back to him he is promising you in this Psalm that the Lord himself Watches been so good to him he has a steady job he has a loving family he's able to write the poems that he loves and he always has food on the table and a roof over his head that was more than could be said for a lot of people these words would have flowed from his innermost being Great Is Thy Faithfulness o God my father there is no shadow of turning with thee thou changes not thy compassions they fail not as thou Hast been valve forever will be at lunchtime Thomas takes his meal in the park across from his office looking up at the Blue Sky with scattered clouds he remembers what it was like just a few short weeks ago snow still land the ground now the flowers were pushing through and beginning to show their color all over the park the sun was noticeably warmer and these words formed in Thomas's mind summer and winter and Springtime and harvest sun moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature and manifold witness to thy great faithfulness mercy and love contemplating these things Ecclesiastes 1 verses 4 to 6 comes to mind a generation goes and a generation comes but the Earth remains forever the sun rises and the sun goes down hastens to the place where it rises the wind blows to the South and goes around to the north around and around goes the wind and on its circuits the wind returns no one wonders if the sun will come up in the west it always rises in the east and throughout the day it makes its circuit to cross the sky always every day even when clouds cover it from our view we know it's there Faithfully dependably Thomas thinks about the guys who are in Yellowstone Park named for its faithful eruptions Old Faithful can always be counted on to spew forfeit steaming water every 44 to 125 minutes every single day and how much more Faithful is our God Lamentations 3 verse 22-23 says the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases his mercies never come to an end they are new every morning great is your faithfulness as his day comes to a close Thomas thinks about what he accomplished that day the people he helped there was the elderly Widow who was so thankful for the life insurance policy her husband had taken out it would help her to be able to keep her home there was the family that had lost her home to Fire and were grateful for the provision of the funds they needed to find a new home and replace all their possessions Thomas was even thankful for the patience the Lord had given him as he talked with the disgruntled customer and helped him understand what his insurance policy covered he didn't always keep his temper but God was faithful even in those times to forgive and to God the next stanza of his poem reflects that pardon for sin and a peace that endureth thine own dear presence to chair and to guide strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow blessings all mine with ten thousand beside Psalm 130 verses 3 and 4 says if You O Lord should Mark iniquities oh Lord who could stand but with you there is forgiveness that you may be feared Thomas was so very thankful for that forgiveness he hadn't known Jesus until he was 27 years old so much of his life had been lived for himself even though he had served as a teacher still his thoughts and plans were his own they had not been centered upon his greater that day he had turned his life over to Jesus and changed everything as the sun sets Thomas strolls toward home gratefulness in his heart for all that the Lord had provided as the brightly colored automobiles chugged down the street Thomas Smiles he might never earn enough to own one of those newfangled vehicles but he is content he watches the orange and red colors of the sunset fill the darkening sky as he walks he rejoices and God his creator he knows he's going home to a joy-filled house the good smell of dinner Catherine is cooking in the kitchen his daughters happy to see him oh he is blessed many times his ill health had kept him from even being able to rise from his bed to go to work today was not one of those days and he was thankful he loved to write words of praise to God and he was thankful for the job that allowed him to earn a steady income he loved hearing his words put to music and sung in the church the refrain for his most famous hymn flowed from his pen great is thy faithfulness great is thy faithfulness morning by morning new mercies I see all I have needed by hand hath provided Great Is Thy Faithfulness Lord unto me as you rest tonight let your mind wander through your day the home in which you Rose this morning the food on your table the job or the school or the home that the Lord has called you to work in you may not thank your life or your circumstances are anything special but God has brought you to them and he will use them and bless them consider how God has provided for you today and let that bring you sweet rest in the morning when you rise renewed and refreshed by your sleep see that his mercies are new with the day Moses heard of God's faithfulness from God's own mouth in Exodus 34 6. the Lord passed before him and proclaimed the Lord the Lord a god merciful and gracious slow to anger and abounding and steadfast love and faithfulness Deuteronomy 32 4 proclaims The Rock his work is perfect for all his ways are Justice a god of faithfulness and without iniquity just and upright he is he is faithful he is faithful hear the words of God's faithfulness from psalm 89. I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord forever with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations for I said steadfast love will be built up forever in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness you have said I have made a covenant with My Chosen One I have sworn to David my servant I will establish your Offspring forever and build your throne for all generations let the heavens praise your wonders O Lord your faithfulness and the Assembly of the Holy ones for who in the skies can be compared to the Lord who among the Heavenly beings is like the Lord a god greatly to be feared in the counsel of the Holy ones and awesome above all who are around him O Lord God of hosts who is mighty As You Are O Lord with your faithfulness all around you you rule the Raging of the sea when its waves rise you still them the heavens are yours the Earth also is yours the world and all that is in it you have founded them the north the South you have created them Dabber and Hermann joyously praise your name you have a mighty arm strong is your hand High your right hand righteousness and Justice are the foundation of your throne steadfast love and faithfulness go before you blessed are the people who know the festival shout who walk O Lord in the light of your face who exalt in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted for you or the glory of their strength by your favor our horn is exalted for our Shield Belongs to the Lord our King to the Holy One of Israel of old you spoke in a vision to your Godly one and said I have granted help to one who is mighty I have exalted one chosen from the people I have found David my servant with my holy oil I have anointed him so that my hand shall be established with him my arm also shall strengthen him the enemy shall not outwit him the wicked shall not humble him I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him my faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him and in my name shall his horn be exalted I will set his hand on the sea in his right hand on the rivers he shall cry to me you are my father my God and the rock of my salvation and I will make him the firstborn the highest of the kings of the Earth my steadfast love I will keep for him forever and my Covenant will stand firm for him I will establish his offspring forever and his throne is the days of the heavens and in Psalm 117 praise the Lord All Nations extol him all peoples for great is his steadfast love toward us and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever praise the Lord the psalmist gave praise for the faithfulness of God Psalm 136 is also a testimony to the enduring love of God listen to these words of praise give thanks to the Lord for he is good for his steadfast love endures forever give thanks to the god of Gods for his steadfast love endures forever give thanks to the Lord of lords for his steadfast love endures forever to him who alone does great wonders for his steadfast love endures forever to him who by understanding made the heavens for his steadfast love endures forever to him who spread out the Earth above the waters for his steadfast love endures to rest and because you're ever Vigilant over us we can rest peacefully and so I pray that rest on your child tonight may they be ever mindful of your faithfulness to them I pray these words from Psalm 37 over your child tonight trust in the Lord and do good dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness to light yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart commit your way to the Lord trust in him and he will act he will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your justice as the noon day be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him we love you Lord watch
