good afternoon for day number two of the 2022 g-neck basketball championships tournament getting underway first game will be between the northwest nazarene nighthawks and the montana state billings yellow jackets on the women's side of things sean wally with you thanks for tuning in all over montana and idaho and all points in between here in lacey washington on the campus of st martin's university inside marcus pavilion the host site for these basketball games all week into the weekend of course these are the quarterfinals these teams did not have to play yesterday so they got to rest practice and get ready for this battle here at high noon on the west coast northwest nazarene comes in at 18 and eight overall 12 and six in conference this is a 4-5 matchup northwest nazarene the higher seed so they'll be wearing the white jerseys as the quote unquote home team montana state billings 16 and 11 overall 10-5 in the conference these two teams did a battle twice in this topsy-turvy up and down season where kovitt affected a lot of play but back on december 2nd in montana at montana state billings montana came away with the win 71-67 northwest nazarene returned the favor winning at nnu with a 10-point win 86-76 just last week on february 26th so these two teams know each other well head coach steve steele for northwest nazarene kevin wooden long time coach at montana state billings we are underway four 10-minute quarters in women's basketball northwest nazarene wins the tip pinson picks up the dribble [Applause] looking down low but it's knocked out of bounds by the yellow jacket so it will be nighthawk basketball [Applause] 12 to shoot long jumper from just outside the right elbow rims out the missed by tabak yellow jackets their first possession over as the ball hits the baseline so that'll be nnu ball as we approach one minute gone by msub tries to steal it right back kunkel getting a hand on the basketball two to one after one made free throw nighthawks back with the ball in the corner a high arcing three right to the yellow jackets [Applause] double team they swing it outside open for three rattles at home that's carry ann kunkel she has all five points for msub knighthawks throw it away yellow jackets already up four get the ball right back [Applause] [Applause] montague across half court switches to the left hand hands off technical difficulties it appears with our public address system but it appears to be back and running so it'll sound more like a normal basketball game 14-5 the count yellow jackets in control but rebound yellow jackets get another possession kunkel strong in the lane with the right hand off window a quick miss by tobach for the nighthawks yellowjackets waste no time right back to the rack the overthrown and out of bounds montague and boyce return for msub back in for the nighthawks is aaron jenkins a turnover by the yellow jackets loose ball picked up by jenkins and the nighthawks throw it away back-to-back turnovers inside three minutes and another turnover that's three straight turnovers looking for what looked like a mini alley-oop ball out of bounds now it'll be yellowjacketball that's four turnovers in a row two by each team 249 remaining in quarter number two in a win or go home game here in the g-neck basketball championships the winner of this game we'll see the winner of our next game tomorrow and the next game is host saint martins against the number one seed western washington vikings three to shoot shot out the shooters roll for msub nelson makes it a 13 point ball game a three for the nighthawks rims out by clark msub the rebounds coach kevin wooden's got to be happy with his team's performance so far in the first half as they have a 13-point lead looking to add to it nice step through in the lane kunkel cannot convert northwest nazarene would like to cut into this deficit before halftime but that's not how you do it another turnover and on top of that a foul aaron jenkins picks up her first foul [Music] shooting has really cooled off for montana state billings down to 58 percent they were up at 76 but the nighthawks not being able to capitalize they're shooting 29 percent here in the first half 90 seconds left in quarter number two top of the key wide open three for the yellow jackets boyce hits the three don't look now it's a 16 point lead connects it's 50-37 nighthawks slowly climbing back in this one if they can get it the single digits they've got a shot but msub does not want that to happen they've got 20 seconds left shot clock is off for quarter number three and there's a turnover just what nnu wanted aspen giese dribbling the ball off her leg 12 seconds left for the nighthawks they can somehow hit a three or an and one pull
