hey guys I'm gonna do a quick unboxing of the glowforge plus model that's their mid-range model it's right in between the basic and the pro model according to their specs it has the same speed as the pro model the only thing it's missing is the upgraded cooling and the pass-through slot so you can do longer objects in it I actually have used to have the pro model I never used the pass-through slot but it's all I was available when I first ordered they didn't have this now plus mid range model otherwise the prior would have just gotten that just know before I do all this this isn't a sponsored video or anything like that I just wanted to put out content of the full unboxing cuz I didn't really see anything like that when I was buying it and I was looking for something like this and especially so on the compact filter because that's fairly new I saw that they originally were supposed to do the one that goes under the glow Forge but it looks like they're not gonna be continuing that and instead they're gonna be offering this this it's still a compact filter but this filter that sits up by the side of your laser instead so I want to do in boxing of both of those show you guys how everything works I did pay for this with my own money so if you happen to be buying a glowforge or you're in the market for one if you can you can use a link at the in the description below it helps both of us out you actually get a discount on the laser and then I get a little bit money back which will help going towards the purchase of this laser otherwise just feel free to watch the video and check out the laser for this thanks alright so I'm going to go ahead and open it up here how's these little clips on the side they look like this basically they just snap in place so you just bend this tab pull it open and there's four of them one on that side there and there someone take those off real quick [Music] okay there's those are you set those aside go for it doesn't make a note that you're supposed to keep all this stuff in case you're gonna have need any repairs or if there's something wrong with it or I assume to down the road if you just need general maintenance on it if you need the tube replaced or anything like that so be sure to keep the box keep those clips and then keep all the rest of stuff that we're gonna see on the inside don't throw any of it away what I do since it's such a large box if you have the space I just put it up in my attic since it's obviously something not gonna be using very much but I know it won't get messed up there and that's just a good place to keep it alright so let me open this up alright and then along both sides there's just this tape here so I'm just going to cut that I'm doing on the other side real quick [Music] [Music] [Music] all right then you can just set it down and then you should be able to just lift up the top of this box here all right [Music] so as you can see they they do a really good job with keeping it all protected I'm sure they figured this out after going through a few different carriers and getting some damage on the testing ones so from here you pretty much just take apart all this phone as I mentioned before just be sure to keep all this material because there's always a chance that you couldn't eat it later down the road so do not throw this away [Music] in this one I believe this one can stay in here let me see yeah so those ones on the side they actually go under the laser so you can just leave those ones as this so for this part it does recommend that you have two people wanting to carry it from each side so I'm gonna go grab somebody real quick and get this out of here also before I put the laser on here I wanted to show you guys this this is something that I found to be basically perfect for the glowforge laser because the footprint of this tabletop is pretty much exactly the same as the glowforge laser with a little bit of space on both sides so you'll have room right here or right here wherever you want to do it to get the exhaust hose on it and then usually what I'll do is I'll take the power cord like this and I just wrap it around the bottom of it but yeah this table I got this at Home Depot is only a couple hundred bucks super heavy-duty though I think it can hold like 500 or 750 pounds and then it's got a spot down here at the bottom I'll show you later but right under this part there's a part where you can store the proof grade materials or leather or wood or whatever you're using for your glowforge and it's on the best part is that it's on wheels so you can just move it around wherever you need to and then put it back so if you're in tight quarters like I am anything on wheels is gonna help because then you can just rearrange as you need to but yeah so this is where I'm gonna set it on I'm gonna take a break here get some help to load it up here and then we'll do the rest of the unboxing all right so this parts pretty straightforward just taking off this plastic over it [Music] [Music] now looking at from this stage it probably would have been better to take this film off first because it's under the whole thing so I would take that off before you set it on a platform or so that we're gonna set it because now I have to lift it up again to get that film out from under it all right so I've already read the manual on this of course you want to check that out and follow along as you're opening your laser so I know some of these steps already but basically there's just little pieces of tape under here let me scoot this back so you can see a little bit there's pieces of tape under here that are just holding some of the door so you just peel it off I would probably even keep this stuff and now it's just tape this is actually kind of sticky tape so I would try to keep this and set it somewhere just in case you do need to ship it back out I know I've read already that a few times but I don't know they probably are the experts on safely packing this more than anybody else so I would just have all the stuff that they packed it with to get to you so that you can always send it out if you need to so let me take that make sure there's nothing on the back here nope and then go ahead and open it up and on this part you'll also want to be sure to follow along just so you're taking them taking out the foam and everything at the right stages okay so once you get the the tape off you want to lift the lid up and then you'll also want to drop this door down that'll give you access to this foam here so you just want to take this foam out pretty gently it's in there pretty good though to keep everything safe so all right and then set that aside and then on each side of the the actual tube and the rest of this mechanism here there's these little orange knobs that you just turn you just turn them counterclockwise that's to hold that this whole thing in place so it doesn't move during transport it's actually a really good idea so this is what they look like it's just basic assault so just unscrew that on both sides there's one on this side as well [Music] okay the next step just be to take this top part of the foam out which we'll review of the printer head right here [Applause] all right and then you're gonna want to remove this foam block let's get this out this right here is a cleaning white for the lenses you can use on the camera on the lid as well as the printer head and then there's actually a sensor back here as well and pro tip is this stuff is just the zeiss lens wipes you can buy these in bulk for pretty inexpensive I think I bought like a 200 pack or something like that on eBay for about $15 so it's good to have those on hand that way you can maintain this and not have to be reordering them over and over again since they're pretty inexpensive okay and then we're gonna take this out and then don't forget in here there's also this is a lens tool this allows you to remove and then reinstall the lens whenever you're cleaning it so but just set this aside for now we don't need to get to at the moment [Music] and the next step you'll want to take this orange tape and go ahead and peel that off and it goes down here this holds that ribbon cable in place that the printer head attaches to you so you can actually take this out I'll just peel it off and then just set that there for now okay and then there's also a clip right here I'm not sure if you can see it let me zoom in here there's a clip right here it's just an orange clip and you got to remove that as well just pull that down and comes right out so what that looks like you set that aside as well all right and then now at this point you can push this the actual assembly back and on both sides right here there's this it's like a rubber silicon type thing like this and once you push this head back all the way back here you can just peel them out so just move this laser head back you just do it gently you'll feel it move off that track of those and then you can just take these out they just set right in there there's one on each side all right this stage I know I've had a pro before so I know on the pro models there's a there's an extra step with the doors right here you have to I think you have to remove or install the shields here that protect that pass-through slot so you'll want to remove those but just follow the manual for that part because this is a plus model so it doesn't have that okay and then after this you can you can just close the door and drop the lid and then go get the accessory pack that's the smaller box and that's going to contain your crumb tray as well as some other things that you're gonna need here in a second okay and then you're just gonna open this box got tape right there and then it also has some cross going here [Music] all right so just open this up and then you're gonna be getting the crumb tray out which is this guy right here but you can go ahead and take out the other stuff as well I already have an exhaust hose setup so I'm just gonna leave this one here but yeah go ahead and actually I have another crumb tray but you can go ahead and get this out this is their crumb tray they do offer these as a replaceable parts I think it's about 250 s so if you end up using yours up or it gets really really dirty or gets damaged because this is just aluminum I believe then you can order another one you can also they have these three little screws right here there are Torx screws and if you remove those I'm sorry not three there's five one two three four five that should be all of them if you remove those you can actually pull this whole thing out and then that allow you to expose just this part and you can clean this with some industrial cleaner I've used the ze P industrial cleaner stuff and I'll leave a link in the description to that but that's another way to clean it out as well but yeah so go ahead and get this out get the power cord out there's some other stuff in here and then you'll be ready to get the rest of the laser set up so there's the rest of the stuff I'm gonna set the crumb tray aside and this is the proof grade materials this is really good because if it's your first time ever using a laser engraver this makes it super easy they have these barcodes on them that actually this right here will be read by the laser head when you put it in so it can just automatically detect what the material is the thickness of it and all the settings that need to happen I've been using laser engravers for about five years so I've kind of figured some that stuff out over time I don't know so I don't use too many of their stuff so I try to kind of tweak it and work with those settings and that might be a good video for a different time but um this will make it easy to get started it's also a good way to test out your laser and see if everything's working properly and of course you need your power cord out so go ahead and get all this stuff out and I'll show you what to do next okay and then once you have that ready just open up that lid again drop this door down and then grab your crumb tray I'm putting in one hour to use just if you're wondering why it's so dirty so you what you want to make sure is that this this part with the flat piece on it and then the part with the handle that it goes into the laser this way so it's pretty obvious when you're looking at but just want to say that either way and then on the inside of the laser there is little dimples inside the actual bed that fit the crumbs right into it if you look at the actual crumb tray itself on the other side of it you see if I get to zoom in here it has these little dimples to fit into there which is perfect because once they're in there they're gonna set in there and they're not gonna it's not gonna move around which would affect your which would affect how the laser would work because it might change the thickness on one corner to the other so just grab this slide it on back here also just to point out if you haven't moved this all the way back go ahead and push it all the way back there it's gonna make a lot easier to get this tray in there and then you just slide it in and then you should be able to feel once it's sat in there so right now I can rock it back and forth and it doesn't move so I know it's sitting in that and those dimples just fine and then from here just go ahead and close that door and then get out the printer head okay and the next step is gonna be to take this push it all the way over to the right and then slide this back and then go ahead and grab your printer head be careful not to touch the lens here or any of the parts at the bottom it's got a pretty good space around it for you to grab and one thing I notice I just opened this out of the box and this lens this part of the lens actually has a lot of dust and debris on it for some reason which is not very cool but I'm gonna go ahead and use that wipe now just go ahead and clean it before I get to it so it's a good way to show you how to clean that here let me set this aside who might have just came from the styrofoam that's inside the inside the box so you just take this cloth and you just clean it just go in gentle circles around it make sure it's all clean and then just what make sure it dries clear and that's pretty much it for that part of the printer head so go ahead and do that remove this piece as well this little foam see if I get to focus on that [Music] you just remove that take that out [Music] okay and then from here you're gonna want to grab this ribbon cable it's back in here and it has this little connector on it right here what you want to do is take that connector and just clip it right into here it's only one direction will go in to make sure that clip side is facing up and you'll hear it clip in place and then from there just slide this back under here and I'm actually gonna move this over find a little bit easier to do it over here so the printer head itself will snap right in place it has these two parts right here as well as a bunch of magnets to hold it so you'll hear it snap in place most important part make sure this ribbon cable is folded on top and then just slide it in there and it's now secured on to that part okay and then once this is installed you want to make sure it can move freely around you should be able to just slide it back and forth and it should be nice and smooth there shouldn't be any catches you could actually do the same with the laser head if you want moves nice and smooth forward and backwards if you have any issues with that you might want to pause their contact lo Forge and see what could be going on this is pretty straight for it clipped right into place so it's pretty hard to mess that up but just check in case and then from here go ahead and close the door if you haven't already and then go ahead and drop the table and it's time to set up whatever exhaust system you're gonna be using all right so I'm gonna go ahead and set the glowforge aside for now this part is going to depend on what you're going to use for your exhaust system so all of its gonna connect to the back of this either way there's just a one port back here so you could either vent it outside if you're usually if you're like in an industrial area or in a neighborhood that doesn't have HOA or whatever that would be a good option I opted to get the internal exhaust system that they have I believe it's called the compact filter yeah compact filter so that way I can just run it indoors I can move it around if I need to and it shouldn't be any big issue so I'm gonna go ahead and open that up real quick show you guys how that works I am curious to see how loud this will be because before I was venting outside and it gets pretty loud out there I have it vented outside of building and it just has a loud whiny noise that you can pretty much hear from almost down the whole street so I'm pretty excited to see how this will go okay and then for this it's kind of similar to the laser there's just a lot of foam stuff keeping all together power cord so you can go ahead and set that aside take this out I looked on the forums a lot too before using this and I saw some people have complained about the pricing for it or the size of it and stuff like that and to be honest with you coming from some of the other lasers that I've seen I used to have an epilogue laser and I've seen a lot of the Trotec lasers and some of the other big-name ones they're exhaust systems that go with it are usually about four or five times the price as the one that glowforge offers so I actually think it's a pretty good price for what it is make sure you guys can see that it's actually a pretty small size let me get off measuring tape actually they probably have this online but I'm just gonna show you on the video so it looks like it's about 16 inches wide or 60 inches long 10 inches wide and about 18 inches from the floor which includes the wheels on the bottom of it so it's actually pretty small go ahead and open this bag this is something you could just toss looks like it's - yeah when it was moisture absorbing things [Music] that's pretty much it you can turn it this way so you guys can see the front of it it's on the front and has a just a not a dial turning up and down the fan I was reading on this and basically the the guideline for now I'm sure they're gonna update it but the guideline for now is basically to test out your material with this if you see if you see or I'm sorry if you smell smoke or it smells pretty strong or you don't see it getting sucked out fast enough you're just gonna crank this up a little bit higher until you no longer smell that because it should be good enough to filter out any of the glowforge materials so I'm curious I almost exclusively cut leather I'm curious to see how long these filters were last how it'll sound compared to venting outside as well as how much fan speed I have to use because leather does produce a good amount of smoke so yeah go ahead and take this part off if you want to check it out I'll update later on to see how often I need to replace this filter as I mentioned for I mean I almost exclusively cut leather I do a little bit of wood but leather does produce a lot of smoke so I might need to change this out pretty quick but it looks like you can just pull this filter out it's pretty heavy let's see here so here's the filter looks like it's about half the weight of the or half the size of the whole thing and they do sell these separately already I saw them in their store so you can swap these out but yeah that's my big thing is I'm gonna curious to know how long it'll take for that to get replaced other than that there's nothing really nothing really work on there's obviously a fan down there at the bottom a lot of gaskets to keep everything sealed so I'm gonna go ahead and get this guy connected and then show you the next steps here there we go it's nice that this is on wheels I'll be easy to maneuver around and then as far as the back of this goes just got a little switch right here and then of course where you put your power cord out and then some more info about it all right so you want to get the exhaust hose out of your other box here's the base is just a dryer vent hose that's a nice part too is if you're doing stuff that makes these pretty dirty if you're using leather acrylic stuff like that you're gonna have to use the filter a lot and stuff like that these hoses are pretty cheap you get it from pretty much any any store or Home Depot Lowe's it's just a normal dryer vent so you can just replace these versus trying to clean them out all the time so you want to put one of those clips that comes with see it's went one of those clips over it before you install it [Music] all right and then I'm going to attach this to the filter first and then I'll show you the back of the laser [Music] so just slide it over that vent it's also important to make sure it didn't tear anywhere this stuff is kind of fragile it's had a few of these tear on me and then just clamp that piece down another thing as well if you want more peace of mind instead of just using these spring clamps you can just get those I believe they're called worm clamps that you can actually screw down and it'll really hold it tight but this should be good enough I don't feel it sliding off at all so it should be able to hold through and then pretty much same thing on the other side just put a clamp over it and then you just want to slide it over this this is one thing I wish go forward were to change a little bit as I wish this port right here stuck out a little bit more it's pretty short doesn't seem like it would hold on very good I suppose you can add an extension but okay and then just slide this over it first but that's essentially it right there now another thing too you want to make sure of once you have this setup in your right spot you want to make sure that this hose doesn't go down too far to help with suction the most you kind of just want it to have a straight and then down path so if it's below if it's hanging below the filter you might want to just either shorten the hose or maneuver it around towards not doing that because that's going to provide much better suction and cleaning if it just goes straight down into it instead of it having to go down and then come back up so I'll show you my setup here in a second just want to show you how to connect those two okay so before I setup the new one I want to show you guys my old setup this is something you could do if you're venting outside or you didn't get the compact filter I actually use this solid tubing I got it from Home Depot as well I like the way it looks it looks more like an industrial look and actually it seemed like it helped with the sound a little bit I could be just not right on that but it seemed like it did versus the loose hose but yeah so you could do something like this make it come out and then you just want to buy a dryer vent kit to bring it outside and then you can just have a vent out a wall or something like that but yeah I'm not gonna be using this anymore so I'm gonna go ahead and take this down I just want to show you guys something you could do the only downside with the rigid vent is that everything is pretty I mean it doesn't move a whole lot doesn't move some but everything's pretty much in the same spot so if you're planning on leaving your laser in one spot this is a good solution otherwise I would just use the loose hose that comes with it I wanted to show you guys too that I actually ended up while I was working on this end up switching to those worm clamps I was telling you about so let me see if it'll focus here these are they're a lot better because you can tighten them all the way verses are just using those spring clamps so if you get one of these if you want to try that out just be sure to get the four inch ones that way you have enough room to spare for it to fit over the hose and for you to tighten it but I found these to be a lot better than the spring clamps that come with they want the the glowforge and they're really inexpensive you can get about Home Depot or Lowe's as well so I just thought I'd share that with you all right so here's the new set up like I was mentioning for this is that table and if you'll see here it fits it fits perfectly on it and it fits over the top of it just fine too so if you're looking for something that's easy to move around because it's got wheels on the bottom of it they lock and can hold a ton of weight as well as it holds a bunch of the materials underneath then I would recommend this table I'll put it in the description below I think it was $300 or $250 from Home Depot so then I might shorten this or change this a little bit later I have an a/c unit right here in the wall that have to work around but yeah I don't really like the way this looks but it will function for now the eye just comes right out the back and then straight down so what I was mentioning before you just don't want to have you don't want to have your hose something like that where it comes down and then up and over that's not recommended it'll probably hurt the performance of it as well so just make sure that it comes up above it and then comes down that way it's not working against gravity so I was already playing with this a little bit I'm gonna go ahead and turn it on to show you the different sounds of it let me turn off my air conditioning unit here so I'll show you it without the glowforge running at all so this is not on at all and then let me turn it on to the back and so I'm standing about I'm standing about a three feet from it or so so I have the switch all the way down so it's not on right now and then I'm gonna go ahead and turn it up a little bit [Music] so even at that level it's pretty loud I'm sure you're probably not gonna be able to hear me right now so that's hot about two ticks here and that would be all the way so this is me standing about three feet from it at full blast they moved back a little bit and now probably about 10 feet from it so although they say you can have a conversation with it it's pretty loud in here at least that full speed so if it's out Miam speed maybe go ahead and turn down again that's probably one of the lowest running settings and then I'm probably about ones once again about twelve feet from it or so ten to twelve feet so this is pretty much where it sounds like I would say you could have a conversation with this but it's still gonna be pretty loud at least in a small space like where I'm at this buildings about 150 square feet so it's a pretty small spot but overall not too bad I can live with it okay and then from here what you want to do is pretty much just turn it on there's a switch in the back of it here and then you'll see everything start getting set up it's actually pretty cool-looking so I'm gonna let that do its thing for a minute and then while that's going I'm gonna go ahead let me adjust this real quick I'm gonna go ahead and go over to the computer and get the Wi-Fi set up so once you have the glowforge on it should be showing a green light on it and then you want to go over to your computer and then look at your Wi-Fi networks and look for one name glowforge it should be pretty obvious so I'm go ahead and click on that and then from here you just connect it to your network [Music] and this will help it to going forward always connect your Wi-Fi so that way it will show up all right and then you could just name it so if you're in a location where you might get more you might want to name it by the room it's in or stuff like that so I'm just gonna stick to the model name that it is and then from here just follow the tutorials if you want I'm gonna save the the first cut that you're supposed to do for a different video because that one can be pretty in-depth and you have to get a lot of materials and stuff like that but for now this will be it so this means you're go for it just set up ready to go and you are ready to start using it alright guys well I hope you enjoyed the video I know that when I was looking for a glowforge I was looking for a video like that so I hope it helped you with either your purchase or just want to know more about their lasers especially with the new filter because I didn't see a whole lot on that and I personally wanted to see how loud it sounded the size of it how it worked and stuff like that so I hope that I hope to help that with you guys be looking forward to new videos I'm hoping to do videos on some templates specifically with leather goods I have a leather business I've had for about five years so I'm hoping to give out some free designs as well as some paid ones showing you how to make your own things like a wallet or a watch band or a notebook case and stuff like that and it would also be using the glowforge laser so keep an eye out for that and I will be posting those I'm hoping to post one at least every other week so I'm gonna try to get some sort of schedule going for it and then of course I'll also have the templates available and things like that so I hope you guys enjoyed it I will see you on the next one thanks [Music]
