[Music] so [Music] so you [Music] huh huh hmm [Music] so [Music] i [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] foreign [Music] good morning everyone and welcome to worship at glenmore temple we're so excited that you've joined us today and uh we hope that if you're joining us online you'll let us know that you're here you can like or comment or you can interact during the service and just let us joining us again today and he's going to be bringing us the message and we're looking forward to that and we thank him for driving out here today even though it was a beautiful day so a beautiful drive for him thankfully um and i want to ask that you continue to keep major denise in your prayers as she's had another test this week and so we're hoping that she'll be back this coming week so just continue to pray for her as she's been going through these tests and uh pray that they go well so we're going to open in prayer this morning so let's just bow together as we pray god we praise you we gather together to worship you to remember the goodness and unfailing love you have shown towards us your people time after time you come and you come to our rescue your love has sustained us through good times and bad no matter what we faced whether accident illness disappointment or death you were there encouraging strengthening and blessing even when we turned our back on you you didn't abandon us but waited patiently for us to return ready to welcome us with open arms because we have known your love in the past we look to the days ahead without fear no matter how uncertain the future may seem we will continue to trust in your unfailing love confident that you will guide us in the days ahead as you have guided us in the past bless us now as we worship you we pray these things in your name amen we're going to begin this morning with a song from the song book and it's number 84 and it says we have no other argument we want no other plea it is enough that jesus died and that he died for me and i love the words of verse 4 it says oh that the world would taste and see the riches of his grace the arms of love that compass me would all mankind embrace and that's my prayer today for anyone who's listening and those who aren't listening that they don't know jesus that they would taste and see the riches of his grace so let's sing this with the band this morning and let's worship as we sing [Music] so [Music] amen we're going to continue in worship and i'm going to read a call to worship from psalm 46 and it says god is our refuge and strength always ready to help us in times of trouble so we will not fear even if earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea let the oceans roar and foam let the mountains tremble as the waters surge the lord almighty is here among us the god of israel is our fortress amen we're going to sing this morning my fear doesn't stand a chance when i stand in your love so this morning i encourage you as we're singing this whatever situation you're going through this morning if you have him as your foundation that you will be strong and you will be encouraged this morning by the words of that psalm so let's just worship together as we sing [Music] here we go when darkness tries to roll over my bones when sorrow comes to seal the joy i hold [Music] when brokenness and pain is [Music] it doesn't stand a chance when i'm standing your love and my [Music] shame fears longer has a place to hide oh i am not a captive to the lies [Music] i'm not afraid to leave [Music] [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] that can help [Music] is [Music] oh [Music] oh one two [Music] i was lost but he brought me [Music] yes i am [Music] while i was a slave to sin jesus died for [Music] [Applause] [Music] yes [Music] [Music] i am i am who you say i am [Music] oh i am who you are [Music] yes there's a place [Music] there's a place [Music] amen i pray that you believe that this morning good morning boys and girls today i'm going to talk to you about the importance of putting god first in your life god i have a little demonstration to do this glass jar is going to represent your life this rice is going to represent all the things that we do in our life all the things you do go to school dance lessons hockey the time you spend with your friends etc and these rocks are going to represent god and the relationship we have with god and the time we spend with god okay so we're going to fill our life with all the things in our life going to school time with our family time with our friends dance lessons hockey music lessons time alone oh and so much more but look at that it's just filling our life really full look at that full life of all sorts of stuffing okay so now we're going to try and put god into our life so we're going to put god in that's not very good there's no room for all the god things in our life there's no room for a relationship with him hmm what if we put god in our life first so we're going to fill the jar here with all the things of god and what those things might be would be reading our bible praying worshiping with other believers studying the bible all those things that help our relationship with god so now we're going to put pour in all the stuff that we do in our life oh my look at this there's lots of room for the stuff in our life we'll just give a see how it all kind of filters around all the things of god god's god is really um important but he also thinks that our life is important and the things that we do is important to him so he's not giving you rules that you can't follow he just wants you to follow him first there we go when we put all the stuff in our life first there was no room for god but if we put god first all the other stuff fills in and wraps around and there's a verse in the bible found in matthew chapter 6 33 that says but seek first the kingdom of god and all his righteousness and all these things shall be added to you i hope you have a wonderful week and remember to put god first in your life let's pray definitely father we thank you for each boy and girl and adult that is listening today we thank you that they want to be part of your kingdom lord i pray that you'll protect each one from the cova virus i pray that you'll protect them from evil influences in their life lord help them to seek you first in all they do in jesus name we pray amen have a good week bye-bye [Music] oh [Music] here [Music] my foreign [Music] [Music] amen thank you to the band for that uh selection this morning and i just want to take a few moments just for us to quiet our hearts and be still before the lord and we're going to do a responsive prayer and i just want to read that second verse it says find rest my soul in christ alone know his power in quietness and trust and that takes a lot of faith to be able to just know his power no matter what you're going through it's it's not easy to step out in faith and there's always that fear that's in the back of your mind and i know it's hard for me to to just focus on god and to not always fall back on that worry in whatever situation i'm going through but he asks that we do that and he tells us not to worry and so i don't know why we do as much as we do at least me i worry a lot so so this morning i just want to take that few moments and we're going to read a responsive prayer and i want us to think about how important it is for us to have that faith uh to walk with him and to have him close to us no matter what we're going through and to remember that he holds us up and we're going to read this responsive prayer is based on psalm 23 so let's just read this prayer together and let's focus on that as we do i am the good shepherd fear not for i am with you do not be dismayed for i am your lord i will strengthen you yes i will help you i will hold you up with my right hand yes though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i will fear no evil for you are with me your rod for protection and your staff for guidance they comfort me i am your shepherd when you pass through the waters i will be with you and through the rivers you shall not be drowned when you walk through fire you shall not be burned though i walk in the midst of trouble you will revive me lord you stretch out your hand against the wickedness of my enemies and your right hand saves me you are the sheep of my pasture i have created you formed you do not fear for i have redeemed you i have called you by your name you are mine though many should encamp against me my heart shall not fear the war should rise against me in this i will i be confident you lord are the shepherd of my soul you are my light and my salvation you are the strength of my life how great is your goodness toward those who trust in you i am the good shepherd and i say to you fear not little flock for it is your father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom he has determined to give you the kingdom surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and i will dwell in the house of the lord forever forever amen we're going to sing about that in this next song too and it says when you don't move the mountains on needing you to move when you don't part the waters when you don't give the answers i will trust so let's put our trust in him this morning as we sing [Music] letting go of every single dream i laid one down at your feet every moment of my wonder never changes what you see i try to win this war i come fast [Music] [Music] no matter what i face you're by my side when you don't move the mountains [Music] as i cry out to you i will trust i will trust i will trust there's not a day ahead you have not seen so in all things be my life and breath i want [Music] i will trust [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] as i cry out [Music] [Applause] i need you to [Music] i will trust [Music] i will trust you amen today i will be reading from numbers chapter 13 verses 17 to 20. when moses sent them to explore canaan he said go up through the negev and on into the hill country see what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak few or many what kind of land do they live in is it good or bad what kind of town do they live in are they unwalled or fortified how is this soil is it fertile or poor are there trees in it or not do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land it was the season for the first ripe grapes today i'll be reading from numbers chapter 13 23-27 and they came to the valley of eshkol and cut down from their branch with a single cluster of grapes and they carried it on a pole between two of them they also brought some pomegranates and figs that place was called the valley of eshkol because of the cluster that the people of israel cut down from there at the end of 40 days they returned from spying at the land and they came to moses and aaron and to all the congregation of the people of israel in the wilderness of param at kadesh they brought backward to them and all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land and they told him we came to the land uh which he sent us it flows with milk and honey and this is it's fruit the scripture is taken from the new international version and found in numbers 13 30 to 33. then killed sons of people before moses and said we should go up and take possession of the land for we can certainly do it but the men who had gone up with him said we can't attack those people they are stronger than we are and they spread among their israelites about report about the land they'd explored they said the land we explored devours those living in it all the people we saw there of great size we saw the nephilim there the descendants of anac come from the nephilim we seem like grasshoppers in our own eyes and we look the same to them well good morning and thank you to the family for reading that uh rather difficult part of scripture well this week the officer magazine came to me and an interesting article relating to this particular portion of scripture was was being commented on by a major smarter retired officer from the uk territory and she said this she said the children of israel had seen god at work in so many ways you know let's not forget who was the one that led them out of egypt who's the one that parted the red sea for them who was the one that brought water from iraq who was the one that gave them dana ma daily manna in measured who gave them victory over their enemies along the way it was god then why in the world wouldn't you trust him now she says this fears are a reality in our lives and can sometimes be dominant when fears increase and threaten to paralyze us how do we face them god's word tells us clearly that we do not need to fear anything god is with us all loving all knowing all powerful and all wise we can trust him but this requires courage courage that the children of israel did not have this story from numbers when the spies were sent out go out and spy the land of canaan this is the land i have given you says the lord go out and see it see the land check on the people are they strong or are they weak are they few or are they many is the land fat or is it lean is there any wood there be of good courage and bring back some fruit let's see it it's time for the first grapes so verse 21 they went up to search out the land and they came back from grapes from the brook of eshkol cut down only one cluster of grapes so heavy that had to be carried on a staff by two men and after 40 days of searching out this land they came back to moses with a report and they showed them verse 29 they showed them the grapes of eshkol here it is here's the fruit so heavy so rich had to be carried by two men they prayed they reported it's a land that's full of milk and honey this is the proof this is a fruit now it's true it's true it's true the people are strong the cities are walled the america to the south the hittites are in the mountains the canaanites are by the sea and the coast of jordan but says caleb let's go let's go and possess us we are able to overcome then came the others we can't go up against these people it's too big for us too big for god they're stronger they're men of stature they lead us up they are giants we're like grasshoppers have you ever had had to deal with negative people well perhaps the answer is yes i hope you haven't been ever one of them people who can only see the you know oh there's nothing good going on no they i remember on one occasion when i was a youth officer in corner brook in newfoundland the core officer and i used to go visiting about 10 30 in the morning to visit the elderly people the shut-ins because they were there anyway so it would give us a good start on the day's visitation and i remember that we would go to visit this one particular lady and nothing was ever good for her how are you well not very well my children can come to visit me my legs are poor my back is bad and i'm no no one comes nobody cares about me all that kind of negative every time we visited her so i said to the corps officer i said look why don't we stay with mrs king until we can get her to laugh maybe not laugh and maybe get her at least a smile to do something of a positive nature why don't we do so we agreed we would not leave until we got mrs king to sing or maybe even smile or look happy she's knocked on her door she invited us in how are you oh not so well not so val haven't seen the children for a long time nobody comes to sleep oh my back is so sore my knees are still in so i said well mrs king looks like we've got here before you've got your makeup on of course you would never wear makeup mrs king says lieutenant if it's a good enough for the lord it's good enough for you and she started to laugh we've done it but it isn't it can be very difficult can't it when you you've got negative people well that's just what these people who came back we can't do it that we can't do it and the people lifted up their voices and they cried it would have been better to stay in egypt or even in the wilderness maybe we should return to egypt and fear grip their hearts joshua and caleb we rented read it this morning rent their clothes they tried one more time if you're reading but the land is good it's exceedingly good the lord will see us through it's flowing with milk and honey the lord is with us we have nothing to fear but the people picked up stones to stone them the grapes of escal were forgotten well we know the story god was so angry they would not trust him their number is 14 you and your children will wander in the desert for 40 years and so they did i guess my question to us is his people is a simple one does the world believe our testimony do they do they believe who we are do they see the grapes of eshkol the wonders of god in us what do we bring how we live what proof do we have if we were on trial about being christians who would be found guilty we have to be the living proof the grapes of ezekiel for the world we have to be stepping stones for people not stumbling blobs are we somehow other by the lives we live holding people back from the kingdom or are we allowing them to see the wonder of god's love within our world the world is looking for direction the world's looking for leadership i remember when i was a world conference on evangelism in manila an african chieftain quite a massive man stood up and he said to us africa is tired of hearing the words and the voice of of russia it's tired of hearing the voice of america africa needs to hear the voice of jesus and if there was ever a time in the world today when we need to hear the voice of jesus and what he's saying to it's now what do we say to the critics what do we say to the skeptics what do we say to the doubter what about our credibility are we realizing by the way we live that we trust god how convincing are we are we convincing enough are our lives convincing anyone is there any doubt left in anyone's mouth of who we are and what we believe and who we serve is the world convinced by seeing us are we authentic in the world in the way we live from day to day when i was in ghana i wanted to bring something home from marion so i said to the office i'd like to go into the bazaar for a while and just pick up something i can take home for mary and this is from ghana i saw a beautiful brass bowl and i knew that marin loved brass and copper that's just the thing to take to her so i looked at it beautiful lovely not too much and i could barter for it something from ghana from africa until i looked on the back which i should have done before made in taiwan not quite from not quite from god it wasn't the real thing it's not what it said it was a fake the world is something like thomas show us show us the real thing i've got to see the real thing for myself it's true in the world when we're living today it's not easy it's true there are giants we always face them so did the early church we read in corinthians 14 troubled on every side but not distressed perfect but not in despair persecuted but not forsaken cast down but not destroyed what about the present situation are you discouraged by it all are you anxious are you overwhelmed are you confused are you fearful are you disappointed because many of you are lonely remember these words be anxious for nothing god will see us through has he ever failed you yet why would he fail you now we just need to trust him for these days john foreign force the greaters he that is in you than he that is in the world remember the words jehovah jireh which means god will provide he'll provide strength he'll provide courage he'll give you patience he'll give us inner peace and more don't be afraid of the giants today let me refer you to the account of elisha in second kings six the king of aram of syria and his army had surrounded the city of dothan elijah's servants got up in the morning and he saw this army we're surrounded by horses and chariots elisha replies don't be afraid those that are with us are more than those against us and elijah offers his prayer oh lord open his eyes that he might see and the lord opened the eyes of the young man and behold the mountain were full of horses and chariots around and about elijah simply trust him he surrounds us with his presence from day to day jesus said i am the world but he also says you are the light of the world maybe god wait waits to sharpen our spiritual experience and our spiritual vision i go back to the words if god if god is for us who can be against us when we were up in the mountains of india where we went for a bit of a rest from the heat of the day there were a lot of trails that took you up into the mountains and one may one of the trails in particular took you a place called snow view a place where if you climbed up to this particular spot this particular top mountain you could see the beautiful himalaya mountains but only if it was a clear day so it was clear that they would put a a flag up at the top of the mountain so that you could see today is a good day today because you'll see them you'll see the hills you'll see the mountains the himalayas so we decided one day we're going to go climbed up to the top quite a number of us gathered together we were looking we were looking looking finally my wife marion had the courage to say i can't see anything but clouds this uh and the guy that was with us said memsab look above the clouds look above the clouds and way up above the clouds where the himalayan mountains what a what a vista beauty lovely we might have missed them because all we saw were the clouds my dear friends god says to us look above the clouds look above the clouds fry them there and i'm here this lovely song is a good reminder to us all a good reminder to us all [Music] for the joys and for the sorrows the best and worst of time [Music] for the moment for tomorrow all that lies behind fears the crowd around me the failure of my plans the dreams of all i hope to be the truth of what i am for this i have jesus for this i have jesus for this i have [Music] jesus for the tears that flow in secret in the broken times for the moments of elation of the troubled mind for the disappointments the come to you this morning trusting you dear father to see us through from day to day realizing how beautiful it is to remember that you hold us in the hollow of your hand it's a place of comfort a place of security a place of peace knowing that you are with us from day to day we need not fear we can trust you help us to be trusting people from day to day we pray in your name amen god bless you well thank you to colonel ratcliffe for that challenge this morning that we can trust him because he holds us in the hollow of his hand and for our closing song this morning we're going to sing with the band song number 662 in the song book and it talks about just that it says on christ the solid rock i stand all other ground is sinking sand and i love verse 2 it says when darkness seems to veil his face i rest on his unchanging grace in every high and stormy gale my anger holds within the veil may that be our story this morning so let's sing with the band as they play um [Applause] um um i thank you to colonel once again for coming out this morning we always love having you with us so uh thank you for the encouragement this morning in the challenge and i pray that you'll take that challenge into your week i'm just going to read a benediction from psalm 121 before we finish it says the lord will keep you from all evil he will keep your life the lord will keep your going out and you're coming in from this time forth and forevermore amen i hope you guys have a wonderful week and that you'll join us back here again next week for our service at 10 20. god bless you
