country music has always been revered for its ability to tell a good story a narrative song can paint a vivid picture that captures the culture of its time an exceptional one will reach across the years to still move us in 1969 with a war raging in Vietnam Glen Campbell released a song about a man in the midst of fighting a war longing for home and the girl that he left behind the song affected an entire generation and almost 35 years later it's still just as relevant and number 8 its Galveston there was ever an example of a man given too much talent in one body it'll be glad I never even know what he was singing about galveston who is it a girl is it a place is it I didn't know I was in Kansas didn't what Galveston was but oh my god do I miss Galveston she was 20 then I thought Galveston was just a classic classic piece for that time in our lives it came out during the Vietnam War the singer is frightened uh-huh he's afraid of dying it's almost like I can see this guy I can I can see him cleaning his gun and dreaming of Galveston now I stand here you'll see Gaveston is one of those brilliantly written songs it comes from almost to another another place Jimmy Webb songwriting and Glen Campbell singing as a combination was probably one of the most deadly combinations in country or pop music that the world has ever seen Jimmy Webb was such a structure of chords Glen woods try to intricately sing them note-for-note sat down one day and wrote the lyrics out and I'd never really sat down and listened to the lyrics and I was just devastated the at the sadness of the story it's amazing how a song like that can be written and so now 34 however many years later it's like it's still really relevant and still very poignant ladies and gentlemen here to perform one of his two songs in the top 100 I give you mr. Glen Kim I was stunned I still hear her dark eyes and while I watch flashing Galvis I still see you Oh afraid of dying it before I watch your you and you
