the Glasshouse mountains are a set of volcanic plugs standing proudly above the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in southeast Queensland the 12 mountains rise abruptly above Farmland just one and a half hours drive north of Brisbane and are a worthy destination for a long weekend or even a full week's holiday Mount tumba Butler more commonly known as the twins is the prominent twin-picked Mountain to the south of the well-known Glass House Peaks while the twins is not as well known it will be recognized by many dominating the southern aspect from the well-frequented summits the East and West peaks of the twins are joined by a low saddle so low that it could be argued that Peaks are separate mountains as it is most visitors do Ascend both Peaks the eastern peak to reach the highest point in the western Peak for the great views North to biwa and tibrugargan to get there Drive South from beer burum then turn west onto Eaton Road this is a dirt road which is reportedly impassable when wet so plan your visit after a dry spell it's about three and a half kilometers along Eaton Road it's pretty good for the most part in dry weather just a little bit ruttered towards the end the road was fine for us with a standard low clearance car in dry weather and park at a large open area where you meet some perpendicular power lines the area seems to be well frequented by trail bike riders which detracts from the nature experience but the Riders can be thanked for blazing the trail through to the saddle between the two peaks so directly opposite where Eaton Road hits the power lines you just walk straight across after about one and a half kilometers there's a fork in the trail bike trail take the right one up to the saddle trail bike track actually led up to the saddle and continues over there's a little truck there that will lead us up about a third of the way in climb up to the top the ascent to the eastern peak is a steep walk on an uneven and loose track but it is only a walk no technical challenge the trail bike engines that you can hear in the background are two teenagers trying to get their bikes up to the summer as you go up you can check on your progress by Looking Back across the other side we're going slightly higher on the East Peak than the West Peak East Peak is the highest at 338 meters the saddle between the two peaks is 117 meters giving the smaller Western Peak 180 meters of prominence two-thirds of its height comfortably exceeds the threshold to be considered an independent Peak no views from the top at all it's been a nice walk in the bush the chorus of trail bikes the Eastern summer doesn't have any views which will disappoint some walkers but for most The Lure is another Glass House Mountain Summit and another Peak to the collection where are we Ryan twins Mount tumba Butler Mount twins yeah you can Budget on a leisurely three to four hour walk Calder car including both summits there are some views just back from the summit you can look across to the Western Twin you can return the way you came back down to the saddle and straight up the other side of the West Peak it's not far from the saddle to a cliff and it seems the best way is a track to the left once you get around that Cliff it's a much easier angle [Music] there's a can mark in the western Summit and if you keep walking West another 20 meters there are good views out to the north the West Peak is the highlight of the Walk continue a little further west from the summer to an excellent balcony viewing platform with uninterrupted views North stretching across the forest and farmland to beerwa krupnick and Timber Garden [Music] this is an excellent spot for lunch to sit in the shade relax and absorb the beautiful scenery around you when you're ready to return retrace your steps back to the car tunberbuddler the twins is another good Bush walk option in The Glass House mountains and an essential tick in every Peak bagging list the Western Summer of the twins is a lovely spot for a well-owned picnic with a Grand View
