GIANT ALLIGATOR GAR Catch Clean and Cook (On the RIO GRANDE RIVER)

what's up everybody blue gabe i'm in one of the craziest places i've probably ever fished or ever wheel fish i'm on the rio grande river in zapata texas you see the u.s border patrol that's because right behind me is mexico this is the rio grande river like if you look right down there that little panga boat yeah this is the real deal this is where the coyotes bring the people that are trying to jump the border across the border and it's so dangerous like this is the real deal i can't even explain it's so humbling to be here to see all the brush down both river banks to see the border patrol right over my back to know that we're right in the heart of what could be one of the biggest problems in our country and that's people crossing the border illegally i know it's a really sensitive subject but it's a fact of life we're here we're fishing on the rio grande river i've got kelly young i've got our captain captain ram with texas king outdoors a good friend of mine that i met fishing the tournament in mexico with the favorite rods fishing team when we were fishing for team usa we're going after giant gars today and i'm so excited i've never caught a real real big one i bet it's pushing 150 pounds or more oh my gosh for sure he said they're here let's get this party started that's right i'm not in south texas i'm not giant guard fishing right now but we're about to be i wanted to come outside i just got home i looked over all the footage the wind was crazy there so some of my footage the audio is a little jacked up and i wanted to give you a recap of all three of the videos that you're about to see i'm going to do them in a three-part series starting with the gar fish of a lifetime y'all then the catfish then the javelina hog that we ended up with and it's actually not even a hog it's a rodent look at his top teeth things will mess you up so we leave here kelly young a good girlfriend of mine who's also a youtuber we left florida about i think last sunday flew to san antonio texas rented a car drove to zapata texas where we met up with ram who owns texas king outdoors we put in at this little private boat ramp in the middle of nowhere mexico right on the rio grande river i pulled up there i'm like what is this it's just like a straight really steep rock pile that rolls off into the river no big deal he's got a big truck four-wheel drive put the boat in the water and we head north down the river the rio grande river is really low big rocks everywhere so we pulled up this little waterfall almost where it got so shallow we had to get out of the boat and pull it across these rapids [Applause] hey you just in there and hold a camera and look pretty no it gets i'm on a rock right here a bad one huh you're about to go over a shallow rock for all of y'all that use outboard motors you know rocks and props don't match we made it though all right so we got across the rapids now we're headed north down the rio grande literally mexico is on our left america's on our right i don't know what to expect i don't know if there's going to be any cartel i don't know what the american border patrol is going to say but ram said it was going to be safe we pulled i don't know about six miles down the river to one of his little spots that only he fishes there's not any kind of pressure there and as soon as we pull up the big guards start rolling so before we started fishing that morning we actually had to go to falcon lake and get some bait we met up with one of ram's buddies who had been out fishing that morning he gave us some fresh carp that's what we're using for bait for the giant gars so we get to where we're fishing on the rio grande we set two anchors and we put out a full spread of six rods and it doesn't take long to get a bite swimming with it fish at least we got our first bite so i asked ram what do we do when we get a bite because we're using these things that look like bobbers they're not bobbers those are just markers they're actually a long ways from the bait he said when the guard picks it up picks the bait up he's going to swim off and you cannot let that fish feel that you've touched the rod so he's leaving it in the rod holder and just letting it swim away when he's ready to hook it then he'll hook it hopefully we got our first giant guard all right you know what i'm gonna do just because you're my friend i'ma let you catch the first one well thank you kind sir so how long do you let them take the bait before you feel comfortable setting the hook usually i let them run about a minute to three minutes depending on the way they act uh when the guards started when the guys start coming up the river is when you get a confirmation that the guards swallow the bait what do you mean up river which way is up river from where we're at that way north so he's going to go down current eat it and then start swimming back up back yes sir when you start seeing that float or your line come up river it's usually an indication that that guard has already swallowed the bait it's not even what i think you got him that's a car a big guard it's a big yeah he's pulling that's a fish big fish [Music] what you got a baby giant might come off what'd you say that fish was perfect for tacos all right you guys we've been fishing for a couple hours kelly's already caught a huge one and it's funny because ram's got all these big rods and i'm like i want to throw my little old salty out so i did and it's just so happens to be the one with the fish picked up i have him on a lot less tackle than he's used to catching these big giants on but one thing about an old salty made by a favorite they are strong i don't know how far it is but it's pointed right at those two trees you gotta be careful there's a lot of trees i did go ahead and put on what one pound says leader 120 pound test steel leader he's pointed right at the motor oh it's a big one big fish limb shaker something was up with kelly's her fish was really long but it was way fatter than it should have been for how long it was looked like it had been eating some bluegate snacks coming up right on the surface oh my goodness by far my biggest this rod is a noodle compared to what i'm supposed to be using but as you can see it's going to do the trick as long as the line handles it it'll work always keep a good bend in the rod and let the rod do the work keep your back straight you'll be good reel down and a whole time i'm reeling down i keep a bend in that rod look how far away his tail is from his head i think yours might be bigger than mine not heavier i can already tell you that no i don't know it's going to be a toss up yours is chunky too now we're going to get the lasso here's the trick guys watch how ram actually lands these fish oh my goodness oh man hey we're two for two we got something to eat kelly caught a monster i caught a monster this is why we came all the way to texas i invited kelly on this trip two weeks ago i said ram is the real deal took him about three hours to prove that three hours worth of weight watch that hook back here oh my gosh you guys this has been such an awesome trip i wasn't nervous about coming here because you know ram and i know his situation with him knowing people on both sides but anytime you travel somewhere that you're not comfortable with you have that right to be nervous with with ram you're 100 safe i promise you good rods good tackle good boat good knowledge he can fish here or on the main lake like he had so many more options for us right there i can tell you one thing he might not be as big as kelly's but he's the biggest one i ever caught you can believe that yeah right there right at six foot because i'm stepping on the rope to hold it wow i mean what a prehistoric dinosaur we know this the shadows are horrible it's pretty much the sun's straight up but look at my hand right here this forehead is as big as my hand you almost can't get them to open their mouth on cue though yeah it's hard you can't really open their jaws they got teeth on the outside oh yeah there you go wow yours is opening its mouth mine did not want to do that hey buddy fish of a lifetime y'all all right let's let her go bye-bye girl okay so we're beached up right now as you can see we got the boat we got the grill going gabe's out here casting a line there's bengar out there hitting at the surface we have about six rods over here ready yep keeping challenge one two two and a half squeeze four two and a half let me go go ahead let's see what you got i ain't even sure if you can consider that like a try there you go once all right well here you have it there's the little guard that we caught yesterday hold that there now it was hard to film because in there where we were able to cut it the shadows were terrible so we just cut it right down the middle and you peel the loins out just like that pretty simple i'll do a video here soon again because i got a new recipe i want to try to cook some gar so when i get home i'll do another one where i really get into detail and cleaning it but you just cut it right down the middle with some shears and pull those two inner loins out then just chunk the rest back in the river check out this awesome little grill he's got though we got some gender we got all kinds of cool stuff we're going to lay this out and get to cooking some gar all right let's get this party started my dana's at home in stuart but one in rome do as the romans we're in texas this is a texas style seasoning some ginger not that much a little bit of garlic like so stir all that up put some on the onions put some on the peppers all right mr ram pop that grill open please all right here we go gar on the bank of the rio grande river about 60 yards from mexico how cool is that scoot it over put that onion on there like that you can't have tacos without onion a little bit of pepper take some lemon or some lime just like so shut the lid i'll tell you one of the coolest things about this trip is both kelly and i when i invited kelly i told her where we were going she's like that's right on the border that's like way too dangerous this is one of those things you can't always believe what the news tells you a lot of like our problems in 2020 in my opinion is the news company makes money off of people watching them they want chaos they want mad panicking that way everybody's glued to the tv just go and explore go somewhere new go somewhere that you might not have thought you would ever been and if you want to go somewhere really cool and don't know where to go come here and fish with ram because i tell you it will be awesome all right so we just opened it up it's been about three minutes the cool thing about this little grill it's actually mesquite charcoal so we're in texas might as well use mesquite i know kelly loves onions on her tacos and so do i so we got some onions got some little sweet peppers and some garfish it actually looks really really good have you ever had gar yeah but not like this robert cooked me some one time and it was totally different than this so two more minutes and we're gonna be eating all right y'all come here and take a peek at this and don't mind the glare on this pan right here so we had that little piece of aluminum foil on there just so it didn't fall apart but now that the meat's starting to get cooked it's a little bit more firm we can put that char on there i'm actually really impressed with the texture of this gar i mean it looks like grouper or anything else it doesn't have anything weird to it that's for sure yeah looks good is it island kelly approved though um i'll have to taste it oh i think we're about ready to taste it all right here you go mr ram thank you sir oh that piece right there is smoking hot oh my gosh this is my first time ever ever trying gar it looks kind of chewy hey if we were in my kitchen i could make it to where you could probably eat it a lot easier but let me see that camera because this is my channel and i'm the boss okay here you go oh it's hot let's see i don't know i need to let this cool down all right you're up the bat first pretty good mm-hmm can you taste the ginger and stuff all right you got to get up on your i mean i got it you got to get ready i gotta get ready it's kind of spooky gar pretty good real good no gag replay it's really good but it does have a little bit of a fresh water why did you just sort of have a little bit of a freshy a freshwater taste to it maybe some of the slime got on the fish i don't know well i can tell you it tastes a little like a little a little hint of dirt but it's a good fish like it tastes like it's like the quality of the meat is fine the hint of the dirt was probably the dust oh that was getting on the grill while we were cooking but that's just part of being out in nature i eat that all day long it's not bad have to add it to my menu those corn tortillas though guard tacos blue gabe alligator tacos right on the rio grande river alligator talk oh out there alligator car girl speaking of alligators when kelly and i get home alligator season starts and y'all are about to see some giants fall big ones but right now we're gonna finish these food we didn't even say that blessing ram you got to say the blessing it's your
