when the day of pentecost arrived they were all together in one place let me say one place say louder one place listen to me the louder you respond the more you say man the quicker we can be out of here some me say man and suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind it was filled and it filled the entire house when you were sitting I loved this and divided tongues as a fire somebody say fire say like you have some as of divided or appeared watch to them and rest it on each one of them and they're all filled with the Holy Spirit and beginning speaking what other word tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance or ability now now you go down to verse 12 it's a crazy scene going on and so people were watch some were amazed and perplexed saying to one another what does this mean but others mocking said they're filled with new wine Peter gets up and he says I want to explain to you what's happening for these people are not drunk as you suppose watch me he did not deny they were drunk but they weren't drunk on what other people thought they were drunk on something had filled them but it wasn't come on someplace from the Rocky Mountains and he'd get brought in with some Clydesdale come on horses it wasn't Jack named Daniel come on in here in me for these people are not drunk as you suppose since there's only a third hour of the day but this is what was uttered through the Prophet Joel that in the last days it shall be that God declares I will pour my spirit on some flesh most flesh all flesh and your sons and your daughters will prophesy and your young man come on will see visions and your old men shall dream dreams even on my male servants and female servants what is God saying in the last days there's equality between men and women the same spirit that flows through man is the same spirit that flows through women come on in those days I brought my spirit and they will shall prophesy can we say many God's work amen you may be seated thank the world thank God for Online Campus and we've been talking about the Holy Spirit for the sake of time I just want to dive right into the message in the title the message are you ready is under the influence under the influence I want to see how honest and transparent we are at church Alvie how many have ever been under the influence you know what I'm talking about let me see your hand well some of you didn't even hesitate yeah thanks some of you the best place to recover from a hangover is at Church LV at 11:45 now don't look at me because I know some of you are recovering right now I really have you recover in church then recover outside of church if you happen to fall and do something you shouldn't have done this past weekend welcome to church healthy because we believe the grace of God will continue work in your life come on and you're gonna overcome every situation that right now Utena but somebody say amen to that under the influence let me just tell you a story when I was younger much younger okay I remember getting pulled over by a police officer in La Habra California I was on my way home he was rather late at night and I remember as I was driving home and I saw those those those flashing lights in my rear view mirror I don't think anything causes more terror come on then flashing lights from police office even if you didn't do anything wrong you're still scared come on wave your hand right this is your story and so I remember the lights okay and they pulled me over right and so I went ten and twelve and so so they they they they now pull me over and this police officer you know turns on now they're bright light I'm telling you what when the police officer that car shines it's bright white lights into your vehicle it is brighter than the glory of God in the throne room in fact when I get to heaven I'm gonna go God someone let you know something this isn't as bright as when I got pulled over I'm just telling you right so some of you aren't laughing cuz you have not been pulled over and especially at night right and so I remember it's like that I'm scared I'm by myself it's like I'm going through everything that my dad told me to do and not to do don't make any sudden movement right just kind of stay there I got it and so you know the drill right how many guys know the drill let me say I know the drill ooh a lot of you a lot of you sinners today today and so you know the drill right so they come up right and they got the lights on so you can't really see them coming up and they're coming in like this and then they have a big ol mag light right like a five cell mag light right and that's actually used as a weapon also because they could use their to go pack just pop beyond the head okay this is where that's course from and so and so you know you know that light right there light and so they come up and you know the question what's the first question they ask you can I have your what how did you know that so quickly we got a lot of sinners today Michael yeah driver's license and registration so I asked officer can I reach in slowly into my glove compartment yes you can okay so that's happening but now when he comes up and I and I and like this I go like what you pull me over driver's license and registration oh okay and then he he looks at me he goes why are you squinting for real well sir you have a five cell Maglite in my eyes that's what I wanted to say sir that light is pretty bright so you know when you're scared your pupils dilate do you know that now when he shines the light they get really small while your eyes changing then he said to me because your eyes are really bloodshot I'm like mm-hmm have you been drinking no sir then why your eyes bloodshot now what I wanted to tell them is is I have Graves disease sir which has caused my eyes to pop out like Bart Simpson and because my eyes protrude so much they get very dry and red eyes is now the official look at my license color of eyes red are you hearing me right note that they were always like that I always pop I put Visine in wouldn't take the red out I mean they were all so I always looked like I was wasted drunk just just just way out there right imagine be like these pickled plug eyes all red right and the guy goes step out all right slowly got you so you get out goes okay anything in your car if I search for it is there no are you sure yes have you been drinking sir I've not been drinking okay step back stand there put your head back put your arms out okay walk the line come on somebody work with the preacher right now you know I'm talking about now even if it had nothing to drink you are nervous as heaven and you start you gonna start just get scared right because what they're trying to do is you're trying to check because they know if you have ingested too much alcohol if you ingested something you shouldn't ingest it would begin to change come on your ability it begins to hamper your ability it began to change come on what you can and cannot do are you hearing me let me give you another example I went to bars a few times in fact I was in the party crowd I was really popular two reasons number one I never really drank and number two I was a good driver I was the original uber lyft before it even came out and not even get paid for it so I always got invited cuz they know Oh Benny don't drink you'll have a root beer with a scoop of ice cream come on that's my mixer right seriously and so I always got invited I was gone and so I'd be at a bar with my friend right and you know when you first walk in a bar or nightclub how many guys you know what that club is anybody know what nightclub is how many man it was it was hopping last night at TAO and so uh and I was witnessing and so and so I was I was there with my friend he was deejaying and stuff like that he's kind of famous DJ and but you know you know kind of like like you pinned there and you walk in and and if you're single guy I'm married so I'm not but a single guy you kind of look around you see some nice-looking ladies right and then look and I say bro she's out of your league I mean don't even look in that direction right and he said you're right bro you're right I say I know a man here you know just and he just starts drinking a little bit after a while if he's drunk enough he hasn't gotten any better looking same woman come on same bar come on same scene but because he's had a little bit too much to drink all Cindy goes i'ma talk to her now I'm like bro you're gonna get shot down real bad right now I'm telling you and I had others just like this so my friends drink too much they're built like me people built like me are built for speed and running away from conflict not running towards it like if me and you get into it like there's a fight going on I'm gonna tell you I'm gonna run and get help that's what I'm gonna tell you right there but you know those guys right they drink too much and next thing you know it's like they're going up two guys they're picking fights with guys they're trying to act all big try not go bad that's like bro if these start pounding you I ain't jumping in on this one in fact when you go to the ground I just say kick up and start kicking you because you know what I'm talking about right when people have too much to drink it changes listen to me it changes how they think it changes how they talk it changes how they walk it changes everything about them simply because they are under the influence this is what I want to talk to you about because in Acts chapter 2 we read about the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2 verse 1 it says when the day of Pentecost had arrived what is Pentecost it is not a style of worship it is not a style of chart Pentecostal church that is not in the Bible Pentecost is a feast that they celebrated and still celebrate today Pentecost was 50 days after Moses got the law they would now celebrate on the day of Pentecost the giving of the law for those of us that are fallen of Jesus Pentecost is 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus is Pentecost Sunday it's the same ceremony same same same Jubilee Day is a day of Pentacost but it has different meanings because in Jesus day 50 days after they parted the Red Sea the law was given but 50 days after the Ascension of Christ the Holy Spirit was given they celebrated 50 days after crossing the Red Sea but 50 days after resurrection of Christ the law was written on stone but now we we celebrate that the law has been written in our hearts when you read when Moses got the law 3,000 people were killed that day but when we receive the holy spirit 3,000 souls were saved that day fire was seen as about him but in the day of Pentecost come on fire was seen on every every individual the Torah means teaching but now the Holy Spirit is our teacher at Sinai the voice of God was heard but at Pentecost the language of God was given to everybody this is the day of Pentecost before Pentecost the Holy Spirit would come and go come and go after Pentecost the Holy Spirit has come and in 12 both men and women before Pentecost he was temporary he would come on David come on Samson come on Jeff come on these Gideon come on these men and women but after Pentecost he is permanent in every believer before Pentecost it was exceptional holy people that the Holy Spirit came upon but after Pentecost it's every person that calls upon the name of the Lord this is so powerful because now it says that all of us could be under the influence notice what happens is the Bay Pentecost comes and the Holy Spirit comes and there's always responses to the Holy Spirit notice what it says that they were amazed and perplexed saying to another what could this mean so let me just break this down for you it's okay for you for you to be both amazed and confused at the same time because we've been taught in church it's like you could be amazed but you can't question it you can't you can't be confused by it I would I would beg to differ and I would say to you that when God begins to move even with me I'm amazed and I a little confused that time when I see some stuff that happens like whoa that's different but sometimes people like put you down because you're trying to process come on something you've never seen before something amazing this is crazy this is wild oh my gosh tongues of fire mighty rushing wind they're speaking in these languages they're praising God and so they're both watching me perplexed they're amazed and perplexed they're not there like this is awesome but I'm a little confused but there's always that remnant of people also that now they begin to mock things they begin to make fun of things they begin to put things down and they say they're filled with new wine now why are they saying they were filled with new wine because they looked at their behavior and said there's only thing that can cause these people to be doing this is they had too much to drink let me tell you when you have too much to drink of alcohol it will change again then when you talk the way you think the way you process but when you get a lot of the Holy Spirit operating your life it begins to change the way you think then what you talk the way you operate people look at you and say something has changed does anybody know what I'm talking about when you walk with God and suddenly because of changing your life and people look at you and say what is different about you you are different you're not the same person years ago when I was a youth pastor there was a young lady named Natalie Bowie Natalie bullies Natalie Bowie was one of the top softball players in the state of Washington being recruited by Division one schools she was just an awesome athlete we used to actually have church services on campus I'd rent out the auditorium at the high school and take church to the high school we have our Wednesday nights and we we pack it out with 800 to a thousand kids meeting on the campus we'd flood the campus with flyers and tell people come tonight it's gonna be amazing and so I remember those moments and and we were scared we didn't know what happened nobody ever taught us to do this I said God Scott told us to go in the cabinet school do that thing and when you rent out a facility they can't tell you what you can and cannot do so we're gonna be exact like we were in church in this space they invited everybody everybody a place was jam-packed we had like that the top football players we had the whole cheerleading squad right we had we had the the up and outs come out of the down announce we had the popular people and the ones that weren't popular and man we went for it and man we had some radical conversions one of them was a young lady named Natalie Bui Malibu was a party animal she was crazy she was wild but in one Wednesday night church experience at the high school campus of Marysville Pilchuck high school that young lady came to that altar that young lady said yes to Jesus and in that moment her life was radically changed so much that she quit partying and they thought it was gonna just kind of wear off but it didn't wear off it got stronger it got stronger it got stronger she began to see her life changed because watch me she was under the influence of something greater than herself it's amazing that they begin to say these guys are crazy they're wild why because they did not understand how could they could be so dramatically different because they were under the influence I'm here to tell you when there's Holy Spirit activity in your life you may not see yourself changing but I'm telling you you are changing you may not see yourself doing it overnight but it's happening to you right now God will change you as you let the Holy Spirit work with inside of you if you know what I'm talking about give God a five second praise break right now five four three two the exhibiting behavior that indicated that something had taken over their life that's why the Bible says the Ephesians chapter 5 verse 18 19 it says this do not get drunk with wine red red wine stay close to me come on how do you know the song that well she's waving her hand come on she's getting out the lighter come on here that's all about right red red wine you make me feel so fine oh oh you don't even know you don't even know I could rap and watch it says it's just watch notice the scripture does not prohibit drinking it says don't get drunk on that wine now let me just let me let me just let me just stop here for a second if you are at liberty to drink and you go out with somebody who's a recovering alcoholic you should defer and say I'm not gonna drink because I don't want to cause my brother come on my sister to stumble and I am NOT gonna what's wrong with you like you can't can't even have one drink and what you don't know is you're condemnation and that judgmental spirit got causing the stuff I'm gonna go a little bit further the greatest way to live your life is so that you cannot just be somebody doesn't cause anybody stumble but you are man or woman that cause somebody to thrive and go to another one God so when I go out but people invite me out to eat your pastor right I don't drink I have a few drinks but I don't drink it's not my normal course so I've had some now pastor when he makes up for both of us [Laughter] just kidding not really I'm just kidding I'm just kidding to you I know you're watching Wendy I love you I love you put the ball down put the bottle down right now put it down I know it's I know it's five o'clock somewhere but not here the reason why I don't drink is because alcoholism runs in my family so I'm trying to make a little bit light I know that alcoholism drunk driving is killing people all over the place and we got to be men and women that say I want to live for the glory of God and so when people I said you could go ahead and drink a lot of my friends drink and a lot of them are pastors and leaders that's okay but I look at anybody and I say but I'm not gonna let you drink too much I'm sorry that you drink too much okay so the Bible says don't be drunk with wine which leads to debauchery excess craziness but be filled with the spirit that word filled is it's a Greek it's the news we're agree it's I know this is kind of just follows me it is a continuous action verb it means to be filled and filled again and be filled again come on and be filled again come on - keep being filled come on be filled now why does the Bible commands to be filled because every one of us leak come on we leaked my situation hits us and we leak we get fired and we leak somebody breaks up with us couple of somebody and I leak every one of us leak that's why we need to be filled and fail and fail and fail and fail and fail I didn't feel it on Monday I need to be filled out Tuesday I even sold on Wednesday it's not a church service it's a relationship with the Holy Spirit take another drink you are filled with the spirit this is what the Bible teaches and it says this that don't be drunk with wine but be filled with the Holy Spirit Peter goes up to say this this is not drunk like you suppose but it was prophesied that an outpouring is hitting this generation so Fiat theologically speaking the last days started when the Holy Spirit came in x2 we are living in the dispensation of the last days that is before the second coming of Christ and this church believes that Jesus is coming back soon no no he's coming back in a physical form he's gonna split the eastern sky he's coming back he's gonna put his feet on the Mount of Olives and now take back everything he's gonna create a new heaven a new earth he's gonna put death under his feet no more sickness no more pain no more tears no more death there's a new heaven and there's a new earth that is coming I remember growing up in church and they say he's coming back my mom used to use scare tactics you better not do something Benny because man when you're over there committing sin with that girl when you're having immorality with that girl the Trump is gonna blow and you're gonna be left behind no no she would might see what through that to me you know you get be drinking too much party doing crazy stuff and also the trumpets gonna blow and you're gonna be left behind do you want to be left behind I don't do it these sad movies like called a distant Thunder guys remember that kind of stuff right are these movies about the rapture and it was always like like like you're left and you're gonna get your head chopped off so he said my momma - it worked look at me right now every time I do something I say what time I was doing something I heard a trumpet like oh my god come on wave your hand you know what I'm talking about right so we're living in the last days so what does God do God says because the days are gonna get so dark and evil I've got to turn up what I'm gonna do in your life see for so long the church is afraid of darkness when darkness is really afraid of the church light is never intimidated by darkness light doesn't show up in repute darkness when light shows up darkness has gotta flee all you gotta do to get rid of darkness is turn on the light baby that's all you gotta do and the darker it is the brighter light is [Music] I'm gonna let it shine I'm gonna tell you quit looking how insignificant you feel and put your eyes on the greatest slide his name is Jesus Christ that's living your life that's good preaching right there give God a five second praise this is this is youth overflow I'll be back to my normal self next week Peter says that this is an outpouring for all generations I love it that I was in the Family Worship room and I'd like talking to people sometimes I'm not here in the front row not because I'm some diva or Devo whatever a guys called Keaney my toenails polished before I come in preach I'm usually in the parking lot and Billy could have tested this pill he was with me and I have God encounters with people out in the parking lot and I was talking with somebody and they said you know I love about this church I said no I was hoping they're gonna say me it never came up they said we love that you have excellence and spirit that we don't just have Holy Ghost but we actually believe in being excellent and all that we do I'm here to tell you my friends that we are on the verge of the greatest move of God that the world has ever seen can i prophesy something we are on the verge come on we're on the precipice come on with you know what this person told me yes let me tell you why we love this church because you care about the next generation let me tell you about a guy named Pat Pat he's got to be probably in his 60s and Pat is in the parking lot in ministry and he said pastor Benny let me tell you why I love this church is because listen I'm older he says but we keep reaching to the next generation and the next generation and the next generation and we need to keep doing that it's not about us anymore we got to come on do conferences we got to create an atmosphere where young people and young adults like to come to church and there is life fair that's why we're gonna do it that's what we're gonna do it I don't care what I'm 65 and an old full kit mad when I'm 65 you know whole old folk are 66 and older and when I'm 67 is 68 and older and when I'm 75 is 76 and older and then when I'm 99 I'm going back to heaven I'm going to heaven I 99 but here's what I want to tell you could it be could it be that we saw dedicated could it be that that could be our whole youth ministries every Wednesday could it be that God has given us a second location open house tonight at 5:00 and Tuesday at 7:00 could it be that God has given a second location because it's not really about a building it's about capacity because we're ready for could it be that you God's gonna use you and your gift that has been sitting in the seat all these years and release you okay let's not go there because some of you're just looking at me strange so I just get ready to hand let's end this thing okay what happens is tongues come so let's talk about tongues I'm gonna talk about it very quickly tongues in acts chapter 2 are actually languages of men the tongues I want to address watch me are the language that is given to us as a heavenly language okay so let me talk about tongues because we don't talk about it enough number one either write it down or just download the app you can listen the message again number one speaking in tongues is speaking towards God not men first corinthians 14 12 says 4:14 - says for when for one went for one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to what man but to what no one understands him or her but he utters mysteries in the spirit so when I pray in tongues I pray in tongues every morning I pray in tongues when I'm driving I prayed in tongues in that seat before I came but to preach I was praying in tongues in the parking lot I pray in tongues I pray to God not towards men number two speaking in tongues builds up or strengthens the person not the church first Corinthians 14 verses 4 and 5 the one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself builds up herself but the one who prophesized builds up the church so when you pray in tongues watch me you're getting stronger than the inside I hit an old rocky song getting stronger donut on alright you get stronger and stronger in the inside when you speak in tongues you're building up your inner man your inner woman why don't you get stronger the inside because pressure builds on the outside but greater is He that is in you come on then he that is in the world number three speaking in tongues in a public setting should have an interpretation according to scripture if any speak in tongues let there be only two or three at the most each in turn and let someone interpret okay so this is speaking when maybe so many calls out in a big meeting like this and they start speaking really loud I will judge that and at times I've said please be quiet it's not right right now because it has to be submissive to Authority but if a tongue was given we have to interpret that tongue okay we can't just start shouting out in tongues with nobody given interpretation now saying that I do believe right that you could pray to yourself in tongues even in a setting like this so most of you didn't hear me and in fact if you're sitting next to me most people don't hear me because I'm praying in tongues to myself very low but I I'm praying I'm edifying myself I'm getting myself ready to preach okay so I believe contextually biblically theologically hermeneutical ii that you can pray that way so when i say come on pray in your language pray in Spanish praying Italian pray or if you have a prayer language good and pray to yourself I'm asking you just to pray to yourself lowly not loudly and you could begin to do that and I believe it's okay scripture because no interpretation needs to be given because you're not praying in tongues for the church number four speaking in tongues allows you to pray even when you don't know what to pray for how to pray Romans 8:26 two interpretations I'll give you both one interpretation would be a classic interpretation which would be that these this is spirit and empowered prayer when you begin to pray in you groan but you're still using your own intellect you're still using your own words and you feel like the Holy Spirit is just praying through you it's intercession it's groanings that's one interpretation which is valid but I also believe there's another interpretation which is just as valid that sometimes you don't have words to say anymore and the Holy Spirit to the gift of tongues come on begins to pray through you I find myself doing this many often times especially when our staff was having some transitions the church was going through things I ran a stuff to say and I would come early the morning 6:30 7 o'clock sometimes I could hear that early still and I'm praying if this concrete could just could just could just just just just just begin to give you back the sounds that I prayed in here I pray in tongues why because I just don't know what to do but I'm praying because the Holy Spirit praise come on the will of God through me lastly are you guys with me still say man okay speaking in tongues is a gift number 5 that can't be desired desired and asked for I think it's just a gift that could be desired and asked for it I have a hundred dollar bill right here in my hands imagine greedy person you so say can I have it imagine if I lined up this this platform with 100 $100 bills I say it's a free gift who would want it no no no that's not what you would do because if you really wanted it you would raise your hand that just tells me you grew up in a good home but for all of us we waiting for permission if you say I'm there are you hearing what I'm saying because it is a gift so the gift is here but do you desire it like if I said who wants this under dollar bill some of you would just raise your hand but I'm not giving the lady sit down sit down sit up mm-hmm I got you I got you me right there so why can't we do this with the Holy Spirit say you know what IIIi believe God I want that gift I want to receive that gift right okay somebody come to the keyboards because I've gone over time and I'm hungry I still got something tonight I'm gonna go to five o'clock and then tomorrow I'm gonna be in a coma I'm sore already from all that jumping so here's the question to be asked you ready pastor how can I receive the gift of tongues you ready number one ask for it let me say ask for it number two you ready it's easy believe to receive it okay somebody say ask say believe okay this would happen with me I heard somebody talking about sure yeah got it but what happened though is I went to a certain church and when they all came to when you came down the altar they all surround you and there's like 15 people around me and some people are saying take it let it go take it let her go so I let it go or do I take it what do I do he's on you he's off you it's I mean it's like I was freaking confused right and they had good hearts just because people are screaming up around me doesn't mean I'm gonna receive something cuz we think speaking in tongues is an emotional response it can engage the emotion but but it is not an emotion it's a decision that I'm just like Jesus was not an emotional response for you you realize I need a Savior I need forgiveness I don't have right relationship with God it wasn't an emotion you say that's what I want that's what I need and then you said yes to Jesus and then your emotions may have kicked in depend upon how you're wired I'm a crier my wife is not a crier I cry easily past when you don't cry at all if my wife's crying you know something really really is happening if I cry it's just nothing enough sleep wave at me right now you know that if I cried it's because I listed too many critics on Facebook because I'm really don't let this buff I'm really really soft-hearted so so I grew up in a movement that it was emotional ha ha ha it was emotion but when I study the scripture I think it's more of I'm asking I'm believing and then here's where the misnomer happens and I'm almost done we think that God is gonna send an angel open your lips and start smacking your tumbling around that's what you think oh so yeah I'm ready [Music] and you think I'm being extra silly because we think God takes control of your tongue here's what happens I ask I believe because God operates by faith you're a saved by grace through faith not of yourselves lest any man or woman should post if salvation is given by the prompting of the Holy Spirit and by the volition of your will you say yes then I believe the same thing happens with the gifts of the Spirit and you may get emotional but you may not so here's what we do I don't say okay let's begin a pray we begin a pray I say okay begin to pray in Europe in English or Spanish or or Italian I met a guy just started coming to church he moved from Rome he was a movie star and he looked like one and so we could relate to each other and so that's funny so he speaks Italian his girlfriend is Mexican he speaks Spanish speaking Spanish to me I said whoa whoa whoa bro odelay no that's all I know orderly I don't know that's not uh that's I know you don't speak Spanish what's wrong with you I'm like hey no judge that guy came down to the altar at ten o'clock and received a prayer language for some church he born and raised in Italy in Rome Catholic and he received the baptism of the holy spirit so they can look at all services so then I said okay let's just begin to worship God and so I think he was speaking Italian and some he was speaking and then I said watch that's the Holy Spirit now to fill you give you that gift and there's gonna be syllables and thoughts that hit you and you're gonna think that's just me that's just silly I said it's not I said just like a little baby makes some noises that's gonna start coming and you need to just by faith speak those things out so one little one lady last night she says okay I say okay now now now beginning to speak in tongues and those thoughts are gonna come and just let those Silver's out okay Tom cotta dicta and at first honestly for a lot on their life like I said but just keep going by faith keep going my faith and I'm telling you the Holy Spirit began to move and and what turned out as a trickle turn into a stream turn into a river and the lady now is just like she is just like going right and then some people it was it was like a little trickle in a stream but didn't go into a rushing river and then I said to them I said listen to me it all starts somewhere then you need to practice it and most of the time you're kind of self-conscious everybody else around you and I said to ever you go home and you suck okay Holy Spirit thank you right now and you could praying in English and start praying in that tongue that he gave you and you keep praying and praying and I'm telling you you begin to develop a prayer language that is straight from heaven
