Payments are changing. Soon,
customers will be paying with chip cards and even their phones. This means businesses have to keep up. Square's here to make your transition
seamless. So we're excited to introduce the new Square Contactless
and Chip Reader. In this video, we'll walk
you through everything from charging to taking payments. When you open the box,
you'll see your new reader. And under this box
you'll find a charging cable and a backup magstripe reader just in case you
still need to swipe a card. You'll also find an instruction manual
included inside. The Square Contactless
and Chip Reader battery is designed to last all day
on a single charge with normal use. To check the battery level, press the button
on the side of the reader. Four green lights
indicate the reader is fully charged. Two or three orange lights
indicate a partial charge. And one red light means you need
to charge the reader immediately. To charge up your reader,
plug the USB cable that was included in your box
into a power source like a computer, then plug the other end into your reader. A USB wall outlet, car adapter,
or external battery pack will also work. It takes two to three hours
to fully charge depending on your power source and whether you're using the reader
while it's charging. When you see four green lights,
it's fully charged, and your reader is ready for business. Many businesses need to take
payments on the go. With the wireless connection
the Square Contactless and Chip Reader lets you take payments
anywhere your business takes you. To get started, go to your device settings
and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Once that set,
just open the Square Register app. Tap the Menu icon, then Settings, Card Reader, Connect a Reader, then Contactless and Chip Reader, then press and hold the button
located on the side of the reader until you see four flashing orange lights. This means the device is in pairing mode. In register select the reader that matches the last four digits of your reader's
serial number. That number can be found
on the underside of your reader. When the reader is connected,
you'll see four solid green lights. A banner will also display
in Square Register that says reader ready. Now you're ready to take
payments anywhere. The new Square Contactless and Chip Reader makes it easy to take payments
at your point of sale. It comes with a USB cable
so you can plug it in, keep it powered, and take payments
at your counter all day. If you're currently selling
with Square Stand, simply plug one end of the cable
into your reader and plug the other end
into your Stand's USB hub. Once it's connected, you'll see
a notification in Square Register that says Reader ready. You can also connect your reader
to your point of sale with the Dock for Square reader
which is sold separately. The Dock charges your reader,
gives it a home on your counter, and it positions your reader
to more easily accept chip cards. Place your reader into the dock
with the USB port facing downward. Then, set the securing bar in place. Take the dock's USB cable
and plug it into the Stand's USB hub. When you see the Reader ready banner,
you're ready to take payments. Credit and debit cards
are getting a new look. The magnetic stripe we're all used to
is on the way out. But it's not just a cosmetic makeover, chip cards are more secure
than traditional magnetic stripe cards, and they'll be easy to accept
with a Square Contactless and Chip Reader. To take a chip card payment,
select an item from your library or enter $1 amount and Register,
then tap Charge. One thing to note, if you swipe a card with a chip through a magstripe reader, you'll see a message telling you to insert
the card into a chip reader instead. To do this correctly, insert the chip card into the Square Contactless
and Chip Reader, chip side up. Make sure the card remains there
for the duration of the transaction. The reader and register
continue talking to each other, making sure the card is genuine. Your customer can select
the tip if she likes and sign. Once you see the checkmark,
you're all set. The new Square Reader gives you
and your customers options, and options are good. Some customers
will want to pay with the classics and some will want to pay
with the latest hits. The Square Contactless and Chip Reader
has you covered for both. Accepting a contactless payment
starts within the Square Register app. Choose an item from your library
or enter dollar amount and tap Charge. When the reader is ready,
one green light will appear on the reader. Have your customer hold their smartphone
or smartwatch on the reader. You'll see four green lights appear
and a chime will sound. When you see the checkmark,
you're all set.
