I came to the comments section wanting to know if this is worth watching, but your 2-hour video was only posted 1 hour ago.

Reddit, you have failed me.

This is the video that got me into Lightroom. I've been shooting for 22 years and used to work in a darkroom. This crisply outlines how to improve images in a way that exceeds Picasa's capabilities. I've already saved some images by shooting raw and saving highlights.

For those interested in buying/renting Lightroom, version 6 is rumored for release early next year, the first month on the monthly version is free (still LR5) if you want to demo, and I picked up a full permanent license for LR5 for $80 bucks with a Canon MX482 printer last week on buydig via slickdeals. (search a deal site for "LR5" to find similar deals)

Sorry if this sounds like an ad, but there are lots of deals out there where you can get the software and something else for less than the current Amazon price of the software alone.

I have a Linux machine, so I can't use Lightroom. Also, I really like to support open software in my free time.

So I use DarkTable.

I think it is just as good as Lightroom, but there are so many more tutorials for Lightroom than for Darktable.

Is there any reason to use Lightroom if I've already got Photoshop and CameraRAW? Lightroom has always seemed a bit redundant to me if you already have Photoshop.

Its always amazing to hear how people explain non destructive editing to others. I recently was trying to help an older person understand how catalog system works as well as import/export etc.. It's a pretty hard concept to grasp especially if you are not fluent with computers as is. I for one use lightroom for all of my organization needs. I have only run into issues a few times where lightroom just starts having a mind of it's own, resetting defaults... not saving sequences of collections... and things of that nature. This video is great for all to watch as every step is incredibly important for the health of your original files.

Lightroom has transformed the way I organize my photos, and this video makes it even better.

Anyway, totally worth watching Matt Damon teach you Lightroom for two hours.

I started out with iPhoto and moved to Aperture. I still don't quite grok the Lightroom workflow; specifically, I'd like to find the equivalent of iPhoto's "Events" or Aperture's "Projects".

Does this video cover the subject?
