Getting Started | Evospace S1E01

hiy folks welcome to Evo space this game has been out uh in Early Access for I think about 5 years I think it came out in early 2019 but I am new to it and I thought I would do a little series and we're going to learn together it's a little convoluted and kind of took a little getting used to and figuring out how things worked so yeah it's a lot of fun though it's got a deep uh research tree there's a lot going on on so I've got I think eight or 10 hours or so onto a save and learned quite a bit made it maybe halfway through the tech Tre and without further Ado let's Jump On In we're going to create a new map and we're going to call this YouTube season one sure there's different generators that rivers and aisles which is one I tried the first time I think I'll try the uh the rocky Islands we can do creative or default we're going to go default mode and uh you can if you don't want to mess with the research you can turn that off as well uh as far as the generators there's also planes and coast and there's a concrete world it's just a flat plane if you want to just build and experiment but we're going to try Rocky islands and that seed well here so to make the seed easy to remember let's use Fedora with a capital f there we go now when you start out you know where some resources are and then you have to build a scanner to find the other resources but uh Rocky Islands sure that looks fine let's go create this is an Unreal Engine so it runs really well looks pretty nice and like I said I am new to the game so I'm going to be showing some tips and tricks but I am by no means an expert I'm just going to kind of show off what I know uh so right off the bat we see some text on the screen so if we press e to open inventory like it says then these will line up if you open something else like the map they won't line up so it's like I said it's the interface is a little Jam y it's a little goofy it takes a little getting used to uh and all the stuff is not actually even lined up so anyway we'll go over the interface now that we got that off so we start out uh e for inventory we have a multi-tool which lets us dig and take down trees and stuff uh we've got about a stack and a half of stone we've got 15 logs and we've got 99 just basic platforms that we can use to build a platform that's flat then over here is our craft menu and we don't have a whole lot unlocked yet but I'll go through each of these as we get going but I'm going to hit one brings up my multi-tool and one with you're going to notice now if you have something in your hands and you open your inventory then like that thing is in here and you can't it's just odd it takes some getting used to so it's best to open your inventory with nothing in your hand any I can see over here this looks like copper and we're going to need some copper to get uh bootstraps here so we're just going to hold left click and the multi-tool basically will remove material so we're going to get some of this copper ore here you can see the copper ore actually takes longer to cut through then along with the progression you can unlock higher tiers of multi-tool uh you start with copper then there's I think steel and Aluminum and Stainless Steel and various things and then the the tool will work faster the machines have better stats that kind of thing as you go up the uh detect Tre we're going to start in the copper actually got some coal right here too so we'll just go and grab that that'll be our main fuel I would kind of like to work towards electricity but we're going to have to start with coal just uh heat and stering engines you can see we're down to the water table here all right so how much copper is that that's see again you get like the little floating hand this is weird I'm going to go and sort uh I think we're going to want at least two stacks of copper so well that's iron ore down in there we ended up with decent little chunk of coal so we're kind of on the coast I may want to run in a little bit I know we do have copper here got coal oh we've got coal copper and iron right here together so this is a good place to start I'll probably want to do uh coal extraction first and that will get our uh we can basically make the coal mining self-sufficient because it'll feed itself grab just a little more copper of this that copper and the green is going to be uranium and you can actually build uh Farms that will make plants or wood and you can turn that into coal so there's there's a lot of different options all right we have at least two stacks of copper we'll see if we can get that started oh I walked right past this and the world is randomly generated like I didn't dig that out that was just there all right let's take a look at our oops at our map so I'm okay so basically right here is is where the copper is makes sense there's a giant surface deposit so I'm going to open up my inventory again and if you if we just left click once we can move the stuff down to the hot bar so I'm going to do that that'll be our our basic platform and then it's just kind of a it's a block building game at this point and you can click and drag say that and it didn't work okay I don't know why that's not working usually you can click and drag there we go let make that up ways uh just so I can not have grass poking through and that is a five yeah we'll make like a 5x five to start with and that'll that'll get us going and Escape gets you back from having something in your hands so the first thing we need to do is we need need to smelt some copper so if we open up e we come over here our crafting you can see we can make from Stone which is like the bottom tier we can currently make a stone furnace and we can have just a few bits and Bobs of copper here but I need to make a stone furnace going to click that once with the left Mouse and click that once with left Mouse and now we've made a stone furnace and a stone smelter so I'm going to put those on my hot bar you can just build I think from the inventory but and it doesn't matter where I put this because it's just going to get us started and then R to rotate when you're getting ready to place you just hit R and then left click again puts that in in place and we're just going to put the smelter right on top so we're going to burn stuff in here which is going to heat up the uh smelter and that will turn our copper ore into to Copper ingots and if if I hold shift and left click it'll move a whole stack over so you can see it is ready energy consumption 200 Watts so we need to provide some heat oh and I didn't say right click to open up so right click on that or right click on the furnace and then I'm just going to go ahead and throw a whole stack of coal in here you can see the energy production of this furnace is 400 watts so we're not we're not ideal you can really minmax this game once you get into it but we're going to have to do some bootstrapping first so if that'll be turning into Ingus while it's doing that I'm grab just a little more copper make sure we have enough to get everything built we're going to have to do some research uh to get an automated drill rig unlocked and then we won't have to hand mine anymore but to do that we're going to need uh some parts we have to build a computer which gives us computations which we use to unlock the research we got two ingots so if I push the J key opens up the research you can see we have a pretty substantial research tree we start with a few things unlocked kind of here in the middle and one of the first things I want to get going is this automatic mining which will let us just mine up out of the ground if I click on that you can see that it requires Auto automization if I click on that that requires basic machines we click on that that requires metal work which we already have and then it requires computations 32 to unlock we create computations with a computer and then the computer has to get powered so our first little thing we're going to build is a computer to start researching all right we now have if I shift left click on that we've got five copper ingots that's just enough to build a copper Sterling engine that takes heat and produces kinetic energy or rotational Force so we're going to build one of those and then we're also going to need a generator to make electricity to power the computer uh one of the other things we need to make a computer is glass so we need to find find some sand this sand no that's clay or I actually can I make sand I can make sand okay like it makes that from the stone so it turns the stone into gravel and turns the gravel into stone I didn't realize I could make that in my inventory I've always went out and dug it up okay you're still chugging away so let's go ahead and get another furnace built and another smelter and you can see down on the hot bar it says one on three and four I have one each of those so and I'm just going to plop those down right next to this one throw the sand in there uh actually I think I need two sand to make a class if I remember right and I'm going to just I'm just going to plop a log in there cuz I don't think we need that much heat to make the one glass we need for the one computer beautiful there's my one glass uh and then let's go ahead and we'll throw that in there and we'll throw another stack of copper in there we'll just have both of these making copper and we got some more ingots now we have enough to make a computer but we need the compact generator first so I'm going to make that and you can see down here in the lower left it makes all the prerequisite Parts you don't have to see it takes two ingots one plate two parts you don't have to build the parts it'll just make it automatically which is a super nice feature on a crafting game so we're short probably a couple couple ingots here let them keep on chugging through so I'm going to go ahe and refill that one and we'll refill that one yeah still not quite enough to make a computer we'll let that chug for a bit and I'll be right back okay I've got enough copper now to make a computer and I I made a stone chest when I was mining I dug up a bunch of Organics uh and if you hold control and left click it'll move all of that item to whatever inventory you have open so just control left click boom moves all of the Organics over into there um those I think can be used to make coal or something later on so we'll hang on to them but don't necessarily need them right now what we do need though is a computer so let's get that queued up and I'm going to get rid of no actually I'll keep that we need the uh Sterling engine and I need the generator so let me get that going and I'll be right back add a bit of BOS in there for some real life stuff we're back now uh it's always a challenge to get a video recorded all right so I'm going to switch this over to uh a Sterling engine so we can get a computer going and get some computations which will let us do research so the multi-tool will also remove items same way it mines and then we're going to stick a Sterling engine on here and we rotate that around so it faces that direction that's going to take the Heat and turn it into uh kinetic energy and build the platform out just a bit here got my little step here can you right click no that doesn't clear all right so escape to get back out and then on the uh end here we need the generator so we want to put yellow to Yellow yellow's kinetic blue is electricity look that up and now that will Spin and it's going to want to produce electricity and the way the game works is it won't consume unless you know something pulling it through right so this is just sitting here paused because there's nothing consuming the electricity on here so what we're going to do is first of all I'm going to right click to clear that I'm going to move that over and right click to clear those off I have muscle memory for my other save of having things in specific spots so I'm going to put the Sterling engine back on four and oh I need to put the computer so if I click on this and then hit escape to close inventory nope that doesn't work hit e to close inventory there we go then I still have it in my hand I can place it so we want the blue to Blue so it'll hook up to electricity and there we go we got a green check mark it means it's it's done it's idle it's not doing anything so if we hit J to bring back up research we want to research basic machines so select now unfortunately as far as I know there's no Q so you have to manually manage this all the time a little bit of a pain but again and I'm new to this so if you're experienced and you see me doing something silly or you have tips leave them in the comments below but this early stage stuff doesn't take very long to research so there we go basic machines is now researched that means so we can build the copper level basically and then we want to go down to automization going to select that one and that's going to research fairly quick as well and then we're going to do automatic mining see I would love to cue this up but we can't do that but it doesn't take too long to get to the automatic binding part now I want to see if we have the little robots I don't remember no that's over that's on automization right cool so we do have those now all right we'll select the automatic Drilling and we're going to let that chug away you can see we've got more options now we've got conveyors we've got a splitter we've got robot arm which I know for sure we're going to need a few of those so I'm going to cue actually I'm just going to cue all those up and then I'll grab we got more copper in here throw the uh throw that back in there so once we get the uh coal going we're going to have the coal feed itself and then we'll have extra coal and we can start using coal we can use a robot arms to get all this stuff automated that'll be the eventual goal there we go research complete automatic mining beautiful and then where do I want to go from here we're probably going to need uh cutting it some point maybe the furnace would be the next spot to go upgrade the furnaces so we can use the copper furnace and then I want to get to where is heat blocks uh heat transfer want to do that one that one for sure so we'll do heat transfer after that lets you uh feed more than one thing with the furnace basically is what that does when your computer's working it puts cook on the screen when it's idle it'll have that little green check mark um now I do want to get some more room here cuz we're going to need room the drilling rig is pretty good size if you left click and drag you can do a whole row you could also hold shift for a plane I've not had that work real great it's finicky that should be some room I'm going to go ahead and get a got to step here so we can get back up here easily on the this side okay I think it said research complete uh we do have enough to make one of those so let's get that going then I probably want at least another Stone chest to store coal we research complete so hit J and we're already on heat transfer so we're going to select that so we can get into fluids and you know liquid fuel making and there's just a there's a lot there's a lot to go I think in this first video I want to at least get the coal production set up so that's what we're aiming towards all right and we hit e again to close that out so now we have our automatic drilling rig and you can see the little white box there that's the output and then it has three of the kinetic energy inputs so I think what I'll do is I'm going to hit R to rotate we put that right on the edge we can build around it probably one over it would be fine okay so now we have an automatic uh copper drilling rig I I need to right click on that and I need to pick which resource so if you click resource this is all the stuff it sees like underground so we can actually do copper or coal here uh but we're going to pick coal and then and it's going to put out one item every 2 and 1/2 seconds now we don't have shelves yet so I I'm going to have to have a little robot grab stuff so let me put that on that on on six so I need to have a little robot the way these work is the arrow is like it's going to take stuff and move it towards where the arrow points so we're going to take it from there and then it'll take it from there and move it and you see the little arrow here so the line is where the stuff comes in the arrow is where it goes if I write click on here you can have it go left or right or straight now I'm going to have it put it in a stone chest like that and then that should does that work into stone chest does that not work into stone chest maybe I have to have shelves okay I thought it would put it into a stone chest maybe it doesn't maybe we have to have the uh next tier up go make a couple of conveyor belts is it not no it's just not grabbing out of there for some reason why would that be oh maybe you have maybe I'm remembering wrong maybe you have to have a conveyor coming out and then the robot can grab it I bet that's what's going on all right so conveyor coming out oh I'm dumb I haven't hooked any uh power up to it yet wow like I said I'm a noob I'm a complete Noob all right let's get some power hooked up to this thing and see if it works better if you hold C you can Crouch down which can be handy sometimes bring that over so up here we're going to need a at least one Sterling engine and uh one furnace but what I'd like to do is have all three powered off of one furnace so back cover here heat transfer is done so that's great uh we have the furnace we have that going uh let's go ahead and do where is the storage shelves this one select that those are super handy okay I need more copper as always the jumping takes a little getting used to all right we got a bunch of copper in there let's go a and top that back up how we doing on fuel just about out of fuel throw our last four in there okay so I want a I need at least three of these so hit those up and I'm going to want [Music] one H how much energy does that produce yeah I think I want a copper furnace I'm going to need I have any S I don't have any of these I'm going to need more copper big surprise we need more copper oh there we go I think that'll get us the three we want so under here and we St that on eight so throw that eight so this is the little copper pipe that will basically transfer the heat out and then clear that and I want my copper furnace down here here we go and then this copper furnace uh it puts out more power more heat I believe okay but we're going to need some fuel we don't really have much fuel yet I do have some logs I'm going to put some logs in there that at least get us going so we're making coal come up out of the ground and then we're going to have to build some automation so that it sends coal down to those furnaces all right now let's see if the robot works now that we're actually putting out coal and I'm not being stupid uh Stone chest do that work not so much huh okay we might need a conveyor belt okay we're definitely we're definitely outputting coal now so that's good now if I had the storage shelf that we're upgrading to uh I could just plop that here and it would fill it up we to get that unlocked uh I need planks I think for that I'm not sure I can make planks can I make planks in my inventory do I have to have a saw for that okay so I found that now if I hit r or middle Mouse click it'll take me to the recipes very important and I can or I I can make them from logs in my inventory uh all unlocked they don't show here for some reason don't know why that is under other I know they're on the screen everybody's angrily typing in the comments yeah I don't know there let's just search for again says press to find research says founded I just want to make some planks it says I can make them by hand uh stone dust mineral Parts you think it'd be in Parts oh there it is right there it doesn't let me craft it okay I'm not sure so we'll just do it this way we're going to have a robot arm put it into a stone chest and then it'll that'll let us buffer right it'll store it in there then we can take the coal out and do other stuff with it we can also take the coal and send it down to here to put into our furnace so let's make it a bottom floor here oh it does remove the grass or Not O and I'm out of building blocks not good all right unlocked uh if we right click I can say craft 25 let's just make a bunch of those this why I built that high up cuz I didn't want grass on here but all right so we want a robot putting it into the furnace so I've got the arrow pointing into the furnace and then we're going to need a bunch of conveyor belts so let me grab copper say craft five I need all the copper I can possibly get my hands on we were just about out of coal okay we have to grab some more coal so the idea is we'll have conve Bells come down here the robot will grab it and it'll keep the furnace fed but for now we have to jump and Miss we have to keep it fed by hand so shift click to grab all those I need to keep making coal so we're just going to plop all those in here is this out it's just about out but it's not quite out yet just for completeness we'll throw stuff there so you can see with these uh copper heat pipes we're making 800 watts each one of these requires uh 220 so we've got more than enough heat to power the three Sterling engines with the one furnace that's what the heat pipes let you do now conveyor wise these are a little tricky I've had a little bit of trouble getting them to work on the vertical plane so bear with me okay so that gets us over to there I'm sure there's a trick to it that I just haven't quite figured out yet yeah we're starting to get a bunch in there now so we do that if I shift right click it'll put half the stack in there it'll transfer half the stack we'll put the rest in here because we need that coal to keep pouring out need all the conveyor belts like get and I oh I need another robot we never have enough robots you can get the idea here it takes a little bit to get bootstrapped but once you get going it starts to get easier yeah we need probably three ingots to make a robot we'll soon have more you know coal and copper than we can ever use so it's all good little bit of a waiting game here early in the early parts of the game okay got a robot we've got a few conveyor belts oh another thing you do with your inventory open you can change the time of day so I'm going just lock it at noon L lock time so we can see good all right our robot is done so here's where we're going to need to uh not go straight with robots so we want the arrow like this so it's coming out of the box I'm going to right click on that I'm going to pick go left and then it's going to pick it up and move it to the left you can see the arrow there so it will grab coal and it's going to stick it on the conveyor belt and I'm out of conveyors I wanted just show you this one thing cu the conveyors is a little tricky as well and I'm going to need I'm going to need two to show this we doing to eat we got a little bit of coal left not a whole lot let's grab some more coal here and once once I get the coal automation figured out I'm going to probably move this over there and have have it just automatically feed off the off the coal as well uh coal here we go throw that in there grab that let's me make another conveyor belt so conveyor belts we bring up our conveyor belt and if we hold hold right click and then you can you can rotate it now we have R rotates it that direction shift R rotates at the other axis now we can have it go down I need another one doing down right here and just ignore physics it works I'll bring it over here and then this little robot's going to grab it he's going to start stoking the fires in the furnace which will keep the coal coming out which comes onto the conveyor belt which keeps the fire going which keeps the coal you see you get the idea so now our coal production is automated it's just going to set there and then right now the deposits are infinite this says copper but we're close enough we can basically get the coal as well so we may make a copper drill rig on this platform at some point or probably more likely another coal because again you can pick the resource and whatever it sees you can mine out but it is infinite for now So eventually this belt will get uh filled back up and then the Box will start filling and life will be good there we go I think that's a good uh good spot to stop the first episode lots more to
