Getting In Trouble For RV Living In California! The Cops Show up!

[Music] we have made it to the city of Del Mar in California where we find this beautiful beach and a good spot to park or so we thought well I'm not gonna give you somebody put something on your front windshield I saw the sign about 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 and I'm thinking okay I'll be out of here before then are you leaving before 8:00 a.m. tomorrow ya know so after a few more random questions we went to a different spot the officer suggests we park for the night we got two tickets yesterday one at 4:30 p.m. and that was a warning and the reason for it was oversized vehicle now on this parking street oversize is considered a vehicle over or seven times in other words over 14,000 pounds we're not over 14,000 pounds okay so they gave us that warning at 4:30 and there's a four hour limit supposedly we didn't see this for our this warning ticket and they came back at 8:30 and for the same reason and it's they ticketed us 83 bucks and so this is not even overnight parking we weren't even overnight parking yet it would still you know 8:30 is not that way you know but we still got a ticket just for parking on a street that the signs clearly say that you that we are technically allowed to park here we usually do a pretty good job and scoping out the area reading the signs and yeah just be more observant we don't just park anywhere and we obviously try to avoid getting tickets the purpose of street parking is not to pay anything right so you know if we knew we were gonna get ticketed from this we wouldn't do it but I'll pay in the back here says we can contest this citation we have 21 days to do so but typically yeah cops will just leave us alone most cops are nice people anyway he seemed like a nice guy overall though you could tell he has his attitude side but he seemed like a nice guy he told us just leave this area and go park over somewhere else in the city which doesn't make sense because he also said that where overnight parking isn't allowed in Del Mar but then he sent us somewhere in Del Mar to go overnight park so I think you know he's just trying to get us out of here to make people happy we're gonna figure this out we're gonna see if we can contest this and so that we don't have to pay the same $3 and we're just gonna we came back to the spot because we are gonna wait for that person or the people are giving us these tickets and just talk to them and see why they're giving us this because we're technically not overweight so we're gonna wait it out we're gonna wait here and it shouldn't probably take that long anyway I'm sure I'm sure they'll be coming back pretty soon here so we'll see what happens and hopefully we don't get another ticket for parking here again but we'll see all right so we finally talked to somebody the parking enforcement officer told us that the city of Del Mar has restrictions of oversized vehicles that are seven and a half feet tall eight feet wide and 20 feet long he said that this law is found online and there are three big white signs throughout the city that state this we told them that we abide by the signs that are on the streets that we park at and that the signs where we were parked did not state anything other than a 7-ton limit and street-sweeping hours we asked him why there aren't more of these white signs everywhere and he agreed that more science need to be placed throughout the city as it isn't fair for people visiting he was kind enough to give us a direct number to a supervisor so we can contest the ticket afterwards we drove around to find these big white signs that say this law but we didn't find them so right there look at the sign the gun right it says right there over seven tonnes that's fourteen thousand pounds we're parked right over here on this road right by this sign that says there's no parking first Monday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a street sweeping we saw mill and already but there's nothing that says that if you're a certain height a certain length that you can't park there and that's a word ticketed for ticket for something and find prank in the air or on line that says we can't park anywhere but there's no no signs I haven't seen a sign when we talked to these people they had said that's why we were ticketed he said forget about the 14 ton vehicle sign a seven ton vehicle sign it's the fact that you are over seven and a half feet tall and you possibly are 20 longer than 20 feet which is not really we're actually I think right on 20 feet at length or a little under that but where does the safe no we're so how can we no get ticketed for something that we don't even know about that doesn't make any sense there's no signs or nothing so we'll see what we can do regardless of unexpected circumstances the day must go on and some things still need to be done like getting alla a new leash and some dog food this moment really made our day and even grew a bit of an audience of shoppers and employees [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so to update you guys on the parking ticket we had gotten the number of the supervisor as we said earlier and we called him he requested that we send an email or fill out the online contest form so we went ahead and emailed him we sent a lengthy email explaining why we wanted to contest the ticket and we also sent some pictures verifying where we had parked and the signs that were posted and all in all our tickets were dismissed so we didn't have to pay the eighty three dollars and it's completely gone we don't have to deal with that anymore but from here on out while in California we are going to be doing extra research on any city that where you're planning to overnight parking we will try to be looking online and figuring out what these laws really are if we can if it does anything online but the crazy thing is all throughout our travels we've never had this problem we've been able to boondock and part places all over the country without this problem we've been all the way to the East Coast and now all the way to the west coast it's happened here and this is really the only state that we've had this problem so from here on out in California will be doing extra research hopefully once we get out of California we can take a little breather on that but we'll see
